protesters and riot police in ukraine brace themselves for another night with the government building their affairs sunday's mass rioting could be repeated. russia's president putin says the ukrainian opposition is unable to control the protests which has now become a breeding ground for extremism also the. battle here. marty hoping the creation of this little party will give a voice to those appeal. by the current government british leftists return to the grassroots in a challenge to what they call a rotten establishment that is sold out from the country's working class ideals. and afghanistan's president says the u.s. is holding back aid to pressure him into signing a deal which would let american troops stay in the country beyond twenty fourteen.

from a studio center in moscow which just turned ten pm this is international ukraine's prime minister says the mass protests in the country's capital have. legitimate demonstrations and he says opposition politicians have radicalized them and a driving them forward the crowds in kiev a swelling again following violence last night and there are now reports right as a preparing to storm the parliament building. reports all this maybe a fraction of what we saw on sunday now in the streets of kiev on sunday there were literally more than a hundred thousand people at the very least and some estimates even reached a million people the streets of kiev the situation is still pretty tense with protesters. barricading themselves in central city unwilling to go anywhere and

recent statements by the prime minister are adding more fuel to the fire he said i quote that the fact that the protests this overtook some governmental buildings is a clear sign of an attempted coup d'etat in the country and he also said that's another quote that don't think we don't have the means to restore order in the city it would take us only ten minutes to again access to the government building again and of quote but on the other hand he also said that the government was ready to sit at the same table with the opposition to negotiate a plan how to work this political crisis out and he also promised that a peaceful protesters will not be touched by the special forces by the police also warning statements coming from the other side of the political landscape in ukraine from the opposition one of their leaders said that he expected the police to storm the city administration building the one which the protesters captured yesterday certainly the hell which broke loose on a sunday it's changed the whole protest dramatically the protests which started

essentially about the refusal of the government to sign the euro so see a sion deal and lot of talk right now is who actually stood behind the violence the unprecedented violence which we saw at the president's office building on sunday let's take a look at my reporting last week it was all about the willingness to be in europe this time ukrainians are suggesting their president should burn in hell the language of the protest changed dramatically after last friday's dispersal of a peaceful protest. it's still not completely clear who incited the violent attacks on city hall and the president's office some accuse all true right wing supporters say it was provoked it says whoever it was the group was prepared and very well organized first and for must receive professionalism all of those who have organized the protests before the protests we have heard about the activity south has several and buses and n.g.o.s financed and supported by and. different

countries by foreign countries so we say that this is a kind of president exacted by external forces for the ukrainian government for ukraine and how far it is to think once again have box. toys which ties his geopolitical choice which geo economical ties would be right and better for ukraine adding fuel to the debate around who masterminded the clash is the continuous a period so if you were pm politicians and. the vice president of the european parliament a prominent politician somebody and the leader of the polish opposition all made their mark at the rallies. these people on the streets are a great asset to feel position there are huge arguments in the discussions with presidency and coverts so now he doesn't want to begin to it was the fact that they are essentially on the ground in kiev cheerleading the protestors on calling for a revolution in the country this is a tantamount to the regime change that has been called for in german newspapers
1:05 pm
this is a most agree just violation of the united nations charter and international law violation of sovereignty and the not interference in the domestic affairs of other states and i think russia cannot take the whole world community cannot take this agree just act like. some in ukraine believe that these protests could go well beyond just words and disturbances on the streets the people in the street very often are not rational because you it's very difficult to control the crowd once you get to one hundred thousand two hundred fifty thousand two hundred thousand it takes all really a mind of its own and becomes extinct it can become extremely violent protesters have firmly barricaded themselves the central kiev saying they would not leave until both the president and the government step down with that scenario being highly unlikely the fate of the country is once again hanging by a thread. reporting from kiev ukraine. russia's president putin said
1:06 pm
he believes ukraine's opposition is no longer able to control the situation there and says the e.u. deal is only being used as an excuse to overthrow the leadership you know who is really as i see it was going on in kiev has little to do with ukraine's relations with the e.u. it's an internal political process the opposition destabilising the legitimate leader elected leadership which moreover was going on doesn't look like a revolution but a well planned action but i think they were prepared for the presidential elections in spring twenty fifteen there had to start early we can see world prepared and organized militant groups the opposition is either not always in control of what's going on or is of political shroud for extremist actions. and legal expert alexander mccurry i spoke to him earlier he says the opposition jumped very quickly from demanding an e.u. trade deal to trying to overthrow the government it's quite clear now that what
1:07 pm
what is being demanded is the overthrow of the government the overthrow of the democratically elected legitimate government and president the president made a decision and the government made a decision about twelve days ago that they were not going to go ahead with a trade agreement with the european union now therefore he entitle to do that if people don't agree don't agree with that decision then the right way to deal with that is to campaign it in in an election which is only about fourteen months away for the government to be changed democratically according to the law and the constitution and for the new president whoever he is to then go ahead with this proposal with this agreement what if what we're looking at now is on a completely different we're looking at a demand for the president and the prime minister and the government to be removed from power by people in the streets. well ukraine has said it needed time to sort out its ever growing foreign debt and work out how to fund
1:08 pm
a modernization program have said this would help safeguard jobs before entered into any deal with the e.u. but foreign policy analyst for the question in a cover thinks that the e.u. won't let you crane profit from europe's economy as european union officials and has a few rypien states try to explain the advantages of european membership to the ukrainian population they couldn't name even a few ukrainian products that would be able to penetrate the european market and there is only one explanation for that is that there would be none indeed the european market is very protected market and it is actually the ukrainian market that europe needs particularly in this time of economic crisis so it is ukraine is viewed as an extension of the
1:09 pm
european market. the protesters weren't impressed by the ukrainians president promised to restart discussions on the e.u. trade deal which lies at the root of the unrest let's take a look at how the situation has unfolded over the past couple of weeks well it all began in kiev on november the twenty first soon after the government said it was suspending that major trade deal with the e.u. rallies on the capital's independence square last in another week with several thousand demonstrators and police occasionally engaging in scuffles on friday night however security forces run out of patience and raided the camp using sheer force to disperse the crowd authorities were quick to ban any protests in the city center and this is only serve to encourage the activists the opposition took a day to regroup and left the square only to return in the hundreds of thousands to retake the heart of the capital and call for a revolution well now the protesters control the mayor's office they've tried to storm the presidential palace and they are demanding he resigns along with the

entire government or keeping an eye on the situation there in kiev on r.t. dot com and you can find all the news updates as one of the most striking videos and photos from the protests and writing. well while protests continue unabated in ukraine spain is making sure it never happens there insulting the spanish state burning its flag or even filming police officers could soon do with fines as heavy as thirty thousand euros draft laws passed by parliament are being described as perhaps the most draconian anti protest bills in europe more now with political analyst miguel and your mario. miguel. well this is surely though ultimately the protesters fault isn't it after years of weekly demonstrations in clashes the government simply as got to do something now.
1:11 pm
well the truth is is that there's been lots of them instructions in spain in the past few months in the past few years but in reality very little violence think of last year for example there were around four thousand a month straight and only ten were reported to have seen some violence and even not major violence so that is what is causing controversy among other things about this law the fact that spain does not have really a problem of violence in the streets in this is different from all the countries and even the other aspects of the law which deals with security in general spain has one of the lowest crime rates in europe so obviously many people are thinking that the government simply wants to stifle dissent and also spanish police there are notoriously heavy handed it times if filming the police in action is banned then how can they in effect be controlled. well that's a problem because the timing of these law actually coincides with
1:12 pm
a series of scandals involving police officers who had acted brutally even causing to this of a man recently that was filmed by someone by a passer by with his mobile phone and that field mean has become the main proof in the in the trial for these policemen so again people clearly feel the temptation to see a connection between the two things and according to these draft laws you'd be forbidden from insulting the state what do you read into that what does that mean. well not just the state but the fact that spain is. sort of our federal state although not and not under that name also insulting the symbols of the orals of the governments of these regions he's facing even the earth the local force it's a very it's a very ugly thing to insult the state or anything else but the problem is that the law is sole and precise this is so on
1:13 pm
a specific that it really is not clear what what they mean actually by insulting so since this is left to the policeman to the police to decide and this is another controversy surrounding the saw not a judge but a policeman will decide well many people are worried that these this is leaving people protected and presumably all this is the aim is to stop demonstrations and protest will it do that well i'm not sure obviously in fact. certain political groups are already talking of protesting against the horse so it could cause it could go exactly the other way around it will cost more than ministrations but what it probably will certainly cause is a lot of trouble we've seen within the judiciary that the judge just threw there on associations professional associations today were saying that they don't know how
1:14 pm
to deal with the situation that they think that these this is a call for and that sidelines the judges from the process of dealing with balancing the streets and well that they think that it's a step backwards and a repressive law and your what are the political analyst live here on r.t. thank you very much for joining us good to hear from me. weary of what they see as the broken promises of britain's ruling factions activists are laying the foundation of a new alternative left unity party and how to aim is to revive the working class ideals of the labor party which they say now only caters to big business so silly or find out whether the time is right for change. this area right here in front of the house of parliament the house of commons. protest. or the very high cost of living sustainable for. the two thousand and thirteen british social attitudes survey found that about seventy five percent of people

the afghan president has accused washington of holding back deliveries of fuel and aid how much because i says the u.s. is trying to pressure him into signing a security deal which would allow american troops to stay in afghanistan twenty fourteen but he's going to has the details. washington is very determined to sign the pact by the end of this year in order for u.s. troops not to withdraw completely from of ghana's them by the end of two thousand and fourteen the deal that the u.s. is pushing forward would leave fifteen thousand troops behind when the assembly of afghan elders afghan tribal leaders most recently endorsed the security deal with the u.s. president karzai indicated that he was not in a hurry to sign it and now he accuses the u.s. of quote applying pressure and creating dependency by cutting off fuel supplies to several army and police units the afghan military now heavily relies on the coalition read the u.s.
1:19 pm
food fuel vehicles logistics and other supplies karzai has hardly been an independent leader after all he owes his power to the us and now he faces the challenge of showing his people that he can stand up for them despite this dependency washington makes it very difficult for him every week or so sometimes more often we hear president karzai demand the u.s. stop killing civilians last week he condemned a u.s. drone strike that reportedly killed a toddler he said american forces are not respecting the life and safety of afghan people's houses now the team unity of u.s. forces from prosecution is the key part of this deal afghans demand justice and when civilians get killed what they get is apologies sometimes not even that and homemade karzai as well as the majority of afghans are now saying apologies are not enough. well for more on this let's talk to former relations analysts using per year he's a member of the coalition lately relations between the two is certainly been strained what are the chances of a deal being signed now
1:20 pm
a tall. well i think the chances are still relatively significant a deal will be signed the karzai government is ultimately a puppet government of the united states and well have a hard time surviving without american and other aid from other nato countries but obviously the occupation is so hated karzai has to continually posture and show that he is an independent figure which makes it difficult so you know it's hard to tell because that said that's a fine line for him to walk but i think the odds are certainly still that a deal will be signed but the dynamic of a puppet government also trying to appear independent to its own people i think is a very difficult one for president karzai and others in the afghan government to want or response to expect from the taliban if that deal is signed. well i think if the deal is signed i think the taliban will most likely reiterate their desire to continue their struggle to move forward there have been limited peace talks of course between the united states or at least talks about talks between the united
1:21 pm
states and afghanistan united states the taliban and of course president karzai i wanted his demands to be included in that so obviously i think the taliban is willing to pursue a dual dual sort of track strategy but ultimately i think they still believe they can win on the ground because of the weakness of the karzai government i expect them to reiterate their desire to resist occupation because the majority of afghan people are in fact opposed to the occupation so it's not hard to see why that would certainly heartened their belief that their cause could be victorious you mean win by force or win politically off the rule next year the country will hold its first ever democratic presidential election do you think politically the taliban could actually win. well i think that certainly political things could favor them i mean we saw the last election even though it was certified by the u.s. government is widely recognized even by the anonymous leaks an anonymous source of u.s. government officials that it was completely and totally illegitimate so certainly if the election takes place in
1:22 pm
a similar type of way that will not help any government that comes forward in terms of its legitimacy do i think the taliban could win politically i mean it's difficult to say i mean i think obviously in the general sense afghan people oppose the occupation but the taliban has not been able to emerge as the single force of the afghan people so i think it's a divided country on a number of different issues but i think certainly the occupation the continuation of the occupation does not favor any government that allows that to go forward in terms of the drone strikes the night raids and so on what sort of outcome with the u.s. want and indeed what sort of influence could it have over these elections if any. well i think the outcome the u.s. is hoping for is another government similar to the karzai government will emerge one that will be committed to the whatever agreement is signed between the karzai government the united states and ultimately for the united states it's really not about who the particular leader is they'll find someone it's about the fact that afghanistan is at the crossroads of the world in so many ways the central asian

republics which the west is attempting to influence in a way to be hostile towards russia china iran and so having this fifteen thousand troops in afghanistan is absolutely vital for the united states to extend its geo political power and i think that their entire goal with the elections process and whatever they can do around it will be to have a government emerge that is essentially over all right with the united states using afghanistan as a base for power projection around the region using great to talk to you thank you very much and the usual you remember the answer from washington. but of reporting done nothing about the horrendous conditions migrant workers are forced to toil under despite global outrage a team from the international trade union confederation visited the country which is set to host the twenty twenty two football world cup and described how they were shocked by tales of terror well i tell you seize general secretary sharon bar i spoke to a little earlier she told me just how bad the situation is. is a modern day slave state workers. are encouraged to go there they're

trade would give china just too much power european parliament member questions they become its motives trial is clearly a very big and important power in the increasingly important if you want any country in the world wants to see china as an opportunity. because if it cameron is saying that there should be e.u. china free trade agreement many of us would agree with that at least in principle but actually less than ten days ago there was an e.u. china summit one this is very firmly ruled out. trade competencies. at the moment line tare with the european union to nothing david cameron can do or unless he's actually saying to china that we're certain to leave. to bring it up to date for the moment more news in just over half an hour from now in the meantime do stay with us for sophie and co when sophie shevardnadze speaks to the prime minister of georgia that's coming up after the break.

ukraine is in a tough spot right now trying to figure out whether to join the e.u. or the arrangements custom union it would be nice if they would you know maybe allow the populace to vote for their future via referendum but sadly it looks like the politicians will be making a historic decision i can see why some people want to look west and some people want to look east but i don't understand why so-called ukrainian nationalists want so desperately to join the e.u. first off any nationalist groups in the e.u. are automatically demonised as right wing extremists and in the politically correct west patriotism is pretty much a dirty word generally nationalist like their culture and the people who are part of it but if you look at migration trends within the e.u. we see that the slavic part of it is flooding western europe looking for work i have many relatives from the slavic part of the e.u.

and almost all of them have to work abroad and might so nice to be able to work in europe but the reality is that ukrainians will probably be paid even less than bulgarians rumanians to clean toilets in london ukrainian nationalists don't have to like russia or join the customs union or join any bloc of countries but advocating a future for themselves the e.u. seems absolutely backwards at least to me but that's just my opinion. talking about language as well but i will only react to situations i have read the reports for. the new i will leave them to the state department to comment on your latter point i'm. sick yet a car is on the docket no. thank you no more weasel words. when you need a direct question the proof for a change when you are you should be ready for
