tonight on our t.v. no resolution protesters in kiev pledged to continue proceeding the government to end despite the opposition losing a no confidence vote. we stand with the vast majority of the ukrainians who want to see this future for their country western diplomats way into urging lawmakers to listen to demands for your own integration also. i. remain in police caution villages struggle against an american oil company that's fracking for shale gas close to their homes. and libya's armed militias are on the receiving end of public fieri over the government's failure to bring security all stability to the all rich country.
11:01 am
even starts internationally is just here moscow my name is kevin owen our top story the protesters in kiev are no partially blocking the government building tonight when the cabinet is planning to hold a meeting opposition m.p.'s have also disrupted parliament's work by blocking the last of these latest live pictures coming through incidentally all this with support swelling from out west as well really picks up the story tonight. where we stand with the vast majority of the ukrainians who want to see this future for their country and we urge the ukrainian government to listen to the voices of its people who want to live in freedom and opportunity and prosperity and the elected representatives of the ukrainian people made their choice deciding against giving that come. meant
11:02 am
a no confidence slap down for the defeated opposition it was back to the streets if the democratic process won't force the government out let the protesters do their dirty work blockading official buildings paralyzing give the protests in the west calls of encouragement the supporters of your integration must remain firm and seize the momentum of the protest this is the only way they can get you to make concessions one neighbor in particular seems to be paying especially close attention to events in ukraine. the european union needs you and you need the european union and if you needed you would be with your poland has always regarded ukraine as its backyard it has i would say near imperialist designs on ukraine what some powers may be hoping for is a repeat of the events of two thousand and four when the country stood still for months in support of the western backed viktor yushchenko but things have changed over the years the orange revolution worked because people didn't know what it was
11:03 am
about at the time. nine years later things are a bit more clear all the promises that were made then. have been repeatedly broken the crowds in key of are clearly disillusioned and a bitterly divided parliament has a tough task in building bridges and job made all the more difficult by western nations fueling what could become another revolution and the demise of the democratically elected government in kiev in a close call r.t. . meanwhile nato leaders have condemned what they call the excessive use of force in kiev as russia's foreign minister also comments on the vast involvement from abroad of the ukrainian crisis after meeting the head of the western military alliance. it's clear that you're not the problem with the accuser we consider the events in ukraine an internal matter i'm counting on ukrainian politicians to bring the situation into a constitutional process and we're asking that no one interferes with this ongoing crisis there was a little girl you know the executive director of the wrong poll institute for peace
11:04 am
and prosperity told us care was being seeing a pattern of provocation throughout the two weeks of public dissent here the us and the e.u. talk a lot about european values and western values but is it a western value to allow a foreign country to come in and influence politics on the streets of course it's not you see a pattern here of of escalation and provocation i think really the protesters on the ground they had a very large public provocation a few nights ago when they were using chains and tractors the question now i think is will the protesters ratchet up looking for a government overreaction so that they can get some new energy into their. you know what's funny the u.s. has counseled. nonviolence but what would happen if i'm here in washington what would happen if someone drove a tractor and tried to drive it into the white house lawn you're going to tell me that there wouldn't be violence against a hundred thousand people trying to break into the white house.
11:05 am
fracking technique designed to recover gas and oil from shale rock is making more enemies around the world the anger stems from potentially enormous environmental dangers posed by the extraction method most recent anti fracking rallies and data taking place in romania and in northern england as polyploidy reports next it's a tough struggle for locals and activists. fracking and protests seem to be synonymous to my experience of covering these stories there hasn't been an area where locals haven't been opposed to this technology taking place on their doorstep and there's just been a crackdown we've heard reports from romania where police have forcibly removed local villages from where energy giant chevron was supposed to start test drilling well i can tell you i can believe that that crackdown was brutal and i can tell you
11:06 am
it would have to be because i was in that village and i was covering that story when those protesters were forming a human chain around that site and they said to me that they would point to the death to avoid this fracking taking place. to stop them even if it means playing with our lives you want to send the army he will die who won't give up until the. start the big issue in the u.k. as well people here on to new to at the moment we've got protests taking place in greater manchester where a company called i gas is supposed to start exploratory drilling and we know that protesters there have been trying to block roads in order to avoid trucks from of arriving at the test site and this is just one particular test well but this company is supposed to be. opening a wells and they're supposed to have more.
11:07 am
drilling sites because the north west of england is full of shale gas its reserves to last the u.k. in terms of energy supply for up to six years and i've been covering these fracking stories we've had protests in sussex as well. on the test sites and i personally spoke to a man in last year who showed me a crack on his wall from earthquakes but it take. place near blackpool that would drill the fracking taking place there so these are things that are still these protests are still taking place and there is a sense of course the protest at the moment in manchester that is an exploratory drilling that's a test site but there is a sense that if companies are investing money into exploratory drilling it's going to lead to fracking. well avoiding reporting. from greenland but she's not in the
11:08 am
green part of england well she's joining us on the line from brussels where hi judy ritchie thanks for your time we're seeing fracking causing more and more problems we're hearing more stories about it coming out now for east and west europe this is going to draw the attention from the e.u. authorities at last or are they still turning more of a blind eye to it than you'd like. well certainly there's action that we really like to see in some degree of certainty about you know what the legislation is that applies to a lot of the test drilling there's a question about you know whether environmental impacts the estimates and lead to some of this given that it's just exploratory whether it's environmental impact will be up to drilling itself or whatever so we would certainly like to see some really strict rules about this because the consequences you know are taking a potentially very damaging other people that need to listening to go. well i think you know there's certainly a big disagreement there are countries which are
11:09 am
a very much in favor of moving ahead with maximum extraction of shale gas they see this as a way of maybe securing more of their own energy supply rather than perhaps relying on sort of whether it's russia or brando or wherever there are others that have a de facto moratorium on this that are not going to go ahead countries such as as france so there is a real difference of opinion but i think you know that across the european union we really need to be deciding what are the criteria that we need here particularly from the environmental perspective actually what we're chatting with we've got a world map here of countries that allow it countries that are burning it eccentric searchable sure our view is that if you just put it on screen it just didn't europe i gather it's just folks and yeah ok so that's interesting to see some of the countries there but have banned it so far but there's a lot of big business pressure here isn't it that's the thing that's what you're up against. well there's a lot of big business pressure there certainly. given the job situation is one of
11:10 am
many you member states or a lot of people that are saying that there are jobs in this we're saying well look there are jobs in a lot of other things as jobs in renewable energy jobs in energy efficiency there are jobs in new technologies so quite you know we don't necessarily have to go down this route and also that we're really serious about meeting our climate emissions reductions we need to be looking at what is going to give us the maximum return for investment in terms of providing energy but also providing those reduced emissions and the long term future i mean your report was saying just now that one of these areas we're looking at six years supply will six year supply given the amount of money that will go into it the amount of. concern there is about it is maybe not the sort of the long term sustainable energy future that you really need so we could be investing elsewhere and those big business companies should really be looking i think at different sorts of investor to yes provide jobs to the
11:11 am
renewables earlier on in our show you said there's still a lot of. the. why and why not solve this whole story is really back you up a yes of course not pleasant thing obviously to your back garden we have all the people on this program sort of even how to move house because of eccentrics i live very worried i could understand the nimby side of it if you like but if science really backing you up way to say it is bad it shouldn't happen. well i think increasingly it is i mean we know that there is already you saw the water stressed in a number of places the environment agency in the u.k. is warning that in some places you know you're simply not going to have the water supply to do this that there are questions about what are the chemicals used questions about the industrialization of the countryside you know what are you doing then we're saying that we want to increase our food production if this clashes with potential sort of. gas production in terms of land use which gets priority and also those that are saying well you know this is very good for our
11:12 am
economies it. helps with our energy self-sufficiency well that's fine if we think that governments are actually going to be in control of the technology and the way in which it's the way in which the product is marketed but if it's just going to be sold on the general market then where's where's the positives for the countries concerned just so i think there are some big concerns economically and environmentally quick final thought i kind of guess i know what is going to be what i want put words in the road if it does have to happen if if big business does at least have some of its way to spite your thoughts on it is radio in the world that it would be more preferable to have it somewhere else if you get my drift is that a country in the world or an area where it could be happening and it could be done without too many problems. well from my point of view if you're not prepared to have it in your own backyard you shouldn't be putting it in somebody else's so i think you know we should be looking at a different sort of energy future here rather than chasing shale gas with all the
11:13 am
positive probable negative consequences all right jeanne thanks for your thoughts tonight to see if the green party or england wales thank you. ok is also causing a stir across the atlantic to the u.s. state of texas was shaken by several earthquakes last week with some scientists pointing the finger at dozens of shale gas drilling wells in the area covering that side of it got it she went out to find out more about the particular concerns there . we're in a town called them ten in texas guess wells are everywhere here they're hard to mix the two hundred and seventy three gas wells just in this town fracking is responsible for the gas boom in the west but people here fear that they're going to be the ones paying for that. i'm very worried when they start fracking will have to leave because of the diesel fumes more than anything was has already had two heart
11:14 am
attacks from it and they tell us it isn't environmentally basically coming from the actual whales. we do believe it's coming from fracking you know the gas industry holds a lot of weight with the government that is frightening but when you see here your friends and family being polluted you see people getting sick around you you have to keep working for and you have to keep gathering you have to keep speaking out because you know it's right while energy giants are rubbing their hands you're going to suppression of gigantic profits many here are increasingly fearful about the water that we drink about the air that we about the land that their house is standing on and they don't trust the government assessment of the damage from fracking because they say the oil and gas industry will make sure that no conclusive study comes out and even if it does come out they believe the industry will make sure that it doesn't become a basis for effective regulation. in denton texas i'm going to shut down or to.

put a fun of a bit more about how fresh it works and why people don't want it anywhere near their homes take a look at our tito coal my website. coming up the christian discord in the syrian crossfire as a group of nuns are of a rebel custody with the media trying to resolve the apparent hostage crisis that also had to. be well founded down to the choice between eating or heating the government advice to brits who are too poor to pay their bills or an extra pull over his house so bills rocket and rapidly dropping temperatures so all we're talking about off the break a lot more to stay with me. councils here in the u.k. are calling for tougher laws to police aggressive bankers finally no longer

free syrian army told me over the phone they say they will send someone to check up on us and provide video footage to prove they're all right. meantime across the libyan militia rages spreading a mob of protesters in the turn of durban has reportedly driven out an armed group of islam ists libyans a furious at the lack of government control which has allowed militias to run rampant throughout the country well meanwhile the embattled authorities in tripoli have given separatists in the country's east ten days now to stand down militias of former self-proclaimed autonomy they're seizing more than half of libya's all supplies the crisis has already seen the export of crude from the country plummet to just ten percent of previous levels in focus libya's no longer able to satisfy even his own domestic needs for oil producing just half of what's required meantime corruption is booming and the country's tumbled to being among the world's worst for an estimated seventeen hundred armed groups have led to a nationwide security crisis are witnessing right now and authorities have been able to take control of the country's arms supplies which are mostly in the hands

of militias some analysts say the western countries that helped usher in the libyan revolution and are reluctant to help out. participated in creating this to asian the current situation is not too bad as far as the us thing countries because their interest is still there the libyans are buying goods from the from europe from the west they're selling oil from them and the west is interfering with various groups some of the country some of the western countries france britain and what have you there are actually backing more than one on one group or another so i am not so sure that the west is actually willing or interested in doing that of course they can do that if they so wish but i don't think they are doing that. amid the power struggle in libya tribal groups are largely being left to fend for themselves some of being targeted by militias for allegedly supporting the slain colonel gadhafi fall asleep reports next on the plight of one in battle minority. this to track was

costs on our own it's affecting every family in this country and this is britain two thousand and thirteen. it's terrible depending on the provider the hike set to take effect this winter could be as high as ten percent with excess which are deaths in england and wales rising by a third to thirty one thousand compared with the previous year six big utility companies are controlling the market and not deciding when to put up prices whether that's above the rate of inflation or not is another question the big six blamed a rise in wholesale costs but industry regulator off jam said costs rose by less than two percent profits meanwhile have gone up by seventy five percent in the last year alone but these are going to see if you really go to that's what we're going to see to do to play out in. the pressure.
11:25 am
and there's a double whammy the national grid wire that energy reserves are dangerously low the risk of blackouts this winter will be higher than it's been for almost a decade but the more pressing problem for many remains simply getting through this winter how many of the. cabinet truly live on the on the sort of money that that we get does it make any difference to david cameron or anyone else if those tests are cilia r t london. with the euro still trying to find its feet china's worms leap to become the second most used trading currency know it share world trade in fact there was nine percent this rising from just one percent last year the ones success marks china's efforts to influence the world's economic serener is financial analysts are some guy running replay expects planes. clearly it's a big victory for china to to to get the number two spot this is this

the big objective obviously of the of the government in beijing to further internationalize the redmen beer that you want they have been working on this for quite some time you can go tell it to some extent as china seeking its own place in what it believes to be its own rightful place in the global economy whether it's these or be the united states or whether it's a reserve the japan of the rivalry that it has an asia both in strategic terms but also in economic and financial terms and also because of the europe as well so clearly i think there is a desire for china to to to exert greater influence and to have a larger position in the global dot just the trade markets but in the global financial markets has always got a great programs lined up for you for the rest the night coming up next in fact
