tribal groups in iraq set up step up to drive out radical islamist militants while the embattled government backed down is offered help by both america and iran. hundreds of complaints have been logged in america's energy boom states because of water contamination allegedly caused by fracking and other drilling methods but look at why we rarely hear about. the nation's deal with debt by joining the great european fire sale we look at whether it's actually helping patch out national budget. hello and welcome live from moscow you're watching archie international with me and

he said no way in iraq a local tribes have stepped into their liberate their homes from al qaeda linked militants sunni elders have asked government troops to pull back from anbar province as local militias retake key positions from islamist forces meanwhile foreign powers have also weighed in geo political rivals iran and america have united in opposition to the islamists as reports. because of politics of the last few decades you think about the u.s. and iran as enemies that don't have anything in common but they do and it's fight against terror for one the kind of terror that is now so rapidly metastasizing in syria and in your book radical sunni militants are gaining food hold in iraq's own bar province and the iraqi government is struggling to drive them out now for americans who had heard the term state sponsor of terrorism so many times used to find iran this whole setting sounds unusual and u.s.

secretary of state john kerry saying that iran might play a role of the peace talks on syria also sounds unusual among the audience that is so used to the hostile rhetoric although on syria both washington and tehran say they want to stop the spillover of terror iran does not share washington exist for regime change in syria so still lots of differences but we see some early indications that common interest could be slowly coming to the forefront after years on the back burner. the militants fighting for domination in iraq belong to the so-called islamic state of iraq and the violent let's take a closer look at the group which is among the most radical jihad this in the region it was a stab us at the start of the war in iraq and pledged a lot of legions to osama bin laden two thousand and four at that time the organization called itself al qaeda in iraq it was later rebranded to the islamic state of iraq in the by two thousand and thirteen it had established a strong presence in conflict torn syria last week the group seize control of

a key city in the iraqi province of anbar near baghdad the ultimate goal of these radicals is to create and this law mixtape that would span several countries including syria and iraq to a political research or psoriasis of war all rich told me it's naive to think iran and america will unite their efforts in the region because they have totally different goals. it seems america would like to help the iraqi government fight the road terrorists that were created because of the occupation of the foreign forces of america and yet in syria next door in syria the same group are being aided to overthrow the government in syria so america is continuing is to have political games in the region and of course the people that suffer are the countries themselves iran is a neighbor of iraq and so the spillover deeply if you run. america well is

sitting nice and cozy across the ocean eventually but the u.s. and iran have been propping up different sides of the conflict in syria are they really united over the struggle in neighboring iraq or does it go deeper. i think they have personally different goals as far as extremism is concerned i do believe that it is a goal for iran to fight it through. and the other hand we know that. the united states is still feeding the fighters in syria through its ally jordan so it's very hard to to accept what america said face value when this still continued to support them. still ahead in the program for you a question of identity. in france you preach in the united states you are american in south africa you have south african but here in israel you cannot be very

interested as israeli find out why citizens are being denied this basic right in just a few minutes here on r t. but first the states in the u.s. and drawing energy boom due to fracking are having to deal with the backlash that comes with it a new report found that people who live in those states have filed hundreds of complaints of well water becoming contaminated because of oil and gas drilling further casting doubt on claims by industry bosses that these problems are rare well let's take a closer look the associated press looked at four u.s. states since two thousand and ten in ohio one hundred and ninety complaints were registered with confirmed with six confirmed cases i should say of contamination people in west virginia filed over one hundred twenty complaints in the same period in four cases the drilling firm did agree to take corrective action pennsylvania saw a nearly nine hundred complaints in the last two years alone and over one hundred cases of pollution were confirmed in the past five years there but the state of

texas is the chief clear leader in the number of people fed up with fracking there's been two thousand complaints but authorities there insists not a single case of contamination has been confirmed or just reported i have witnessed public anger over fracking in the state of new york where people want the practice to be that. the story in twenty third street had her man a top priority to get this new york to one thousand people gathered in albany new york city capital to take the car and to type packing probably the only it was the governor and tool to get cracking he was taking notice wow did you see copying was me is taking place in the city building where the governor is getting the books he was thinking was the right thing you already outlined schools and through the here at the station he's currently if you wait to see the procedure is probably the

thing which will ultimately lead to his decision on whether or not he will allow fracking comps to move work states now over the past ten years fracking has led to a us boom in oil and gas production generating hundreds of billions in revenue for companies and land owners but it's also created concerns and fears about pollution the long list of scientists that environmentalists was conducted so i was thinking that the chemical in talking to the candidate you will get the ball was dangerous so many of us that i spoke with a cable ready seen cases thanks to the sequencing of the data throughout the country and they don't see those cases was treated the way they live their contaminated high levels of radiation oakridge the bottom line is extreme credibly dirty form of extreme and it takes traction because of anyplace new york state i

12:09 am
the forty from albany new york read up or not archly. fracking requires companies to pump chemicals into the ground to break apart rock and free the gas water can then return to the surface containing salt heavy metals and radiation as well as cause air pollution anger over fracking is united many activists across the globe but renewable energy advocate tyson slocum says there's a reason why we hear so little about the dangers. the fact is that the hydraulic fracturing process is injecting millions of gallons of highly corrosive and highly toxic chemical mixtures into the ground and some of them are in small traces it still is harmful. for health but it's more difficult to pick up especially if different state agencies lack the resources to do the full kind of testing required what this investigation shows is that basically most of

these states are just operating hotlines where people can call and report these concerns that they're having but we're not seeing a systemic follow up to to determine exactly what if any contamination has occurred at once the oil or natural gas companies confront landowners they typically require them to sign what's known what's known as nondisclosure agreements the oil company will say listen we'll give you ten or twenty thousand dollars in cash will give you a year's supply of free drinking water or you have to do is sign this nondisclosure agreement that forbids you from ever mentioning this publicly. coming up shortly here in our t. obsessing about the weather polar vortex the polar vortex the polar vortex you don't to worry about the confusing stuff the stuff with new ones like the syrian civil war like the pros and cons of genetically modified food you just walk outside

a priceless and they've touched the price tag to it i think that's absolutely reprehensible there's absolutely no guarantee that that privatization will help consumers at all and one of the most surprising items recently put on the market was citizenship for a little over a million euros you get a maltese passport and therefore become an e.u. citizen a move that's been put on hold as two thirds of the public at opposition leaders cry foul the very. same legal gone through these which. meant a huge international image which was uncalled for because more go to date has when the lowest rate of unemployment in the whole european union it's a question of principle over citizenship should be pulled out on say proponents of privatization see it as a necessity for either nations that are in dire straits but also warned that by

europe at a bargain may not be as much of a jackpot as one might think if i were investor i wouldn't be buying many of these things all of these countries have serious political risks for any kind of foreign investor anybody trying to. buy a house and italy has to reckon with the possibility that ten twenty years down the line a government is just going to nationalize whatever they whatever they want to nationalize but for what it's worth this sale continues tesser sylvia. and financial expert patrick young believes the fire sale is a mere distraction from the real problems plaguing the eurozone when you've had a swinge ing incredible recession as we've seen in many parts of europe there will alternately be a point in time when the economy binds the spark to some degree but truly the problem is that the euro is still fundamentally a counsellor us disorganised monetary system at the core of the european union the mediterranean countries have still done little or nothing to organize what is

a nationality. but you cannot there man. it's a totally absurd situation in israel's population registry there are one hundred thirty five recognized nations people are listed as jews arab druze and more but never as israeli and the most seem ok with that it's semantics the meaning is the same the nation is the jewish nation and it has the jewish nation state both in the proclamation of independence and the un resolution of november the twenty one thousand nine hundred forty seven which says that a jewish state would be formed not an israeli one but if a person was to be identified as israeli in the national wage astri it would challenge the claim that israel is a jewish country something the supreme court is aware of as it is we have mary and a group of israelis petitioning for change there already is a lot. different about from an arab citizen this is something not accepted

democratic we want the state to belong. to all of us but for now the supreme court has dismissed the case leaving the debate on what is an israeli open for years it was truly created by one of the country's greatest caricaturists camile goddaughter better known as dorsch but slick is clearly jewish as a question of additional yet he came up with a young man because israel was still a young state and slowly he created the new israeli national guard more with the issue what happened with their neighbors palestinians included but they weren't part of the character. like the registry cyrillic lives in a world where culture faith and history are more defining then once present and by all accounts it's likely to remain that way at least for the nearest future and israel without israelis. r t hold on. the world's

chemical weapons watchdog is urging syria to speed up the removal of its toxic arsenal it's feared violence in the country could derail the disarmament process which is due to be complete by june and international efforts to mediate peace in syria have hit a new hurdle the main western backed opposition group is split on whether to attend the geneva two conference later this month although some analysts insist the umbrella group doesn't have support of the syrian people the term syrian opposition is as strong as it could be this these groups are neither syrian nor a position so they don't have in their interest the good the benefit of the people or of the country these groups are very very often influenced by the west by turkey by the goal of states we have to imagine or to see those groups more like militant gangs like a sort of mafia those groups who claim about themselves that they re priests and the moderate opposition of the mob are moderate rebels don't have any influence on

opponents of the president since december when he accused his former deputy of plotting a coup a total of two hundred thousand people are now thought to be displaced across the country. as the blast of cold weather that's been tormenting the united states eases we've taken the opportunity to look at how the local media set all the other news aside to demonstrate just how freezing freezing is are to us to see if reports . more talked about in the u.s. media than the most ridiculous celebrity baby name and the royal wedding combined it's called a polar vortex the polar vortex the polar vortex the polar vortex more frightening than your worst nightmare to whirlpool of dense frigid arctic air ladies and gentlemen meet the cold it's a cold hell if you can imagine so it is the coldest it has been decades every thirty seconds and all it's really cold out this is the most important mainstream news story for days on end we have
12:23 am
a team of correspondents covering this arctic blast it's really obvious that it's cold but just to keep your journalistic integrity you want to first hand account of how cold it is and if a mailman is all bundled up saying yeah it's cold then you know it's actually called here's a hamburger and a steak even though there's really only that much to eventually talk about how's your skin doing since weather is weather no matter how hard you try to keep your attention look at this is a little mall not as deep as chicago pizza hard as a rock you could use this as a weapon if you wanted to it's ok temperatures dropping to subzero extremes is a rare occurrence in certain parts of the u.s. but amping it up like there's no tomorrow might be a tad over exaggerated your goal is to remember other people know it's cold people know they shouldn't go outside you don't need to go on and on and on and on and while the really really important is that not getting covered then again weather coverage doesn't require bringing up the truly unpleasant you don't to worry about

changes that even the most creative screenwriter couldn't imagine hopes were high if you just seem bright and be happy and within reach what happened to those trains well to discuss that i'm now joined by a prominent egyptian actor and activist. mr burkett i really appreciate your being on the show thank you very much thank you thank you very much for inviting me now i remember that back in two thousand and eleven you spent days on tougher square alongside other protesters calling for president hosni mubarak to step down and eventually thanks to your efforts and the efforts of thousands of other dedicated patrick activists he eventually deed and in one of the interviews you gave back then you said that that made you feel very proud of the egyptian people i wonder if you still hold onto that pride are you proud of what is happening in your country now yes i'm definitely proud we went down two thousand and eleven to

object to a number of wrong things that were happening in our country and when they happened again we just took to the streets again very quickly and very effectively because three days instead of eighteen days the second time so i'm still asked bro but i remember that one of the main slogans that you could hear on tap for square back down was brad freedom and human dignity and if you take those as as a yardstick of egypt's. success or progress the picture is not really here brive because your economy is much worse than it used to be more people have been a restaurant or killed since the ouster of mubarak then prior to that and when it comes to human rights and human dignity the progress is very limited to say the least so isn't egypt pretty much back to where it was before the arab spring only
12:30 am
much worse i think what's happening now in egypt is a retaliation due to the actions that were taken by people in power and their supporters to humiliate human dignity and basically want to break we've seen supporters of morsi shooting at people have had certainly on the street trying to object to the majority of the egyptian people and i think eventually when you do that if you want to keep your dignity you have to retaliate the question is of course how do you retaliate because back then you were inspired by democratic ideals you wanted to bring democracy to your country and at this point egypt is not a democracy it's still ruled by a military regime that is incorrect i disagree with that it is ruled by oddly months who is the head.
