jihadist violence. from our studio center here in moscow which just turned eleven pm this is r.t. international. now these are not images from a disaster zone these are actual scenes from the ukrainian capital the pictures show protesters running amok angry over plans for laws they say are aimed at punishing them for holding rallies the response has been fierce mix of molotov cocktails clubs and bombs and reports of pepper spray all thrown at the police trying to stave off a revolution when alexian is in kiev for the international. like a battlefield doesn't it after this extreme violence just. all of the protesters

prepared to go in all of this. well the word unprecedented fits very well to the situation of kiev right now it is unprecedented brutality from both sides of the protest by the police and by the protesters yesterday we saw and even today we saw the policeman beaten to a bloody mess and as well as we saw lots of protesters carry two ambulances and police attended is also that the number of policemen injured in these riots also almost matches the number of the protesters which is unprecedented even if we're talking a global stage it is also preceded that we see molotov cocktails rocks flash bangs grenades and all these kind of things used in the very heart of ukraine into the capital that's never been happening before it is still happening i just returned from from that place that's where our vantage point is that's where we're observing the riot where we see flash bangs and of cocktails thrown in basically every second the protesters are even using some medieval means to take down the police lines the

interior ministry at the same time is claiming that someone is arming the protesters with the clubs and with the knives and different sorts of weapons so far there's been no reports of firearms among the opposition crowd but we wouldn't rule that out as well the same time we know that president got a call which is now meeting several people from the opposition who were selected to to or to meet the president but this is behind closed doors meeting and is really hard to understand what will come out of it where there will be any political solution what will be able to temper the mood in the streets of kiev now to give you a proper idea of what is happening around three hundred meters from where i'm standing right now i did this report from the scene of the riot. this morning now in here but that sound sent at the right place where the vents unraveled in a very violent manner yesterday are not dying down you can see what works. manes of

a few days away r.t. is beginning its special coverage of the diplomatic build up to a meeting which aims to find a way to end the bloody conflict. the presence of syria's main opposition group in geneva is in question again the western backed body issued an ultimatum threatening not to show up after the u.n. invited iran the syrian national council is demanding that either iran proves its commitment to setting up an interim government in syria or the un withdraw its invitation but russia's foreign minister said this cast doubts over the opposition's willingness to find a solution. caught up with anyone doubting the necessity of all influential players taking part in geneva two is not seeking an end to the syrian crisis these are just whims the syrian government imposes no preconditions and is even willing to sit with countries directly arm the rebels and not just the

moderates so does that mean damascus demands their exclusion the goal of any talks is to bring to the negotiating table not just the parties you like but all those who are the solution to the problem depends on. well even if the syrian national coalition does attend the peace talks its priorities are likely to be very different from its opponents its leader earlier said forming an interim government without bashar al assad must be a main aim of the conference believe syrian leader himself though said stopping the spread of terrorism should be the primary focus. the geneva two conference must lead to concrete results when it comes to fighting terrorism and the other outcome that does not touch upon the comeback thing of terrorism that would be of no value at all. to discuss the struggle to get these peace talks on syria under way i'm not joined by cover he's

a former professor at tehran university and author of several books on iran's foreign policy now the deadline issued by the syrian opposition for the u.n. and iran to decide over whether iran should attend these this conference is now over should iran simply say its word that it could scupper these talks and simply acknowledge that fact and now walk away. was oh i don't think so and i don't think that would be a wise approach by iran iran has repeatedly expressed his interest to participate and play a constructive role toward a political settlement in syria their foreign minister zarif radio raiding iran's principle position in favor of a political transition in syria you know democratic free elections and so forth so i don't think iran will walk away given the fact that syria strategy.

and the civil war in syria are serious ramifications in terms of regional instability affecting iran's national security calculus so i think that iran is interested and keen on accepting the invitation sent by the un secretary general which to my understanding was sent without any precondition and that has been confirmed by the deputy foreign minister mr yon who said that iran was not invited to geneva a wonderful it's sort of illogical to impose on iran setting conditions for participating in round one of the geneva conference given the fact that we're really dealing with two conferences in one and even mr rove has stated that the first run is pretty much symbolic with the participation of some forty countries and hopefully iran will be included as well so in my opinion the syrian

opposition is a stance is rash unwise and counterproductive given the fact that they have serious emphasis on syria and national integrity and sovereignty in light of the intrusion and their very destructive role of thousands of foreign forces who have zero commitment to the values of free democratic syria. as well as the rights of women and so on but surely the main aim of this conference is to make sure a transitional process takes place where in effect a sad steps down there's knee and surely iran being a very close ally of a sad but they really agree to a transitional government being set up without. well you know that's an important question and needs to be discussed at the conference itself because you know what is the alternative to mr we do not want to see and. reproduced in

syria where you have you know of the breakup of the country and basically warlordism in various parts of the country and incitement of the syria sectarianism and so forth and you know some of the constitution members of the. national democratic right have prioritized the fight against sectarian violence and yet you have these. groups just today banning music images and of course the zero respect for women's rights and so on so they run iran could have and that's the question then is. iran's presence here could be really quite crucial to these priest talks and yet here we have washington despite the fore in relations with tehran being very negative about tehran's presence there and that what's that going to do for relations not just between tehran and washington but indeed russia because that will cause friction when it. oh of course because the you know

just the beginning as over the next few months iran and those six world powers have to reach a final compromise because of the fall asleep reports the past may not speak easy. from today a deal between iran and the international community goes into effect that will see iran freeze parts of its nuclear program in return for the easing of sanctions in terms of the agreement they will no longer be restrictions on the reigning exports of picture chemicals the country will also be able to import parts for its auto manufacturing industry and trade in gold and other precious metals the next six months are critical because it is during this time frame that the international community and iran will need to reach a final agreement that many fear without which could ultimately see the border middle east descend into chaos and possibly even a war what is clear is that there has been a good will and the wanting for this deal to work that has overridden the skeptics
