the. men video just like it but on the alice sets so i figure you martine a serious health crisis unfolded in west virginia that left three hundred residents seeking medical attention and over three hundred thousand on able to drink their tap water so it all went down after the company freedom industries admitted that a storage tank of the chemical for metho hexane methanol leaked into the water supply of charleston first of all great job putting corrosive chemicals in the seventy plus year old storage tank just a mere mile and a half upstream from the city's main water supply guys but that's not it now we're finding out after all was said and done but there was a second chemical that was mixing of a toxic compound that no one knew about until just two days ago it's called paul
9:31 pm
the glycol or ph the other one i already knew about is called cleaning chemical called and c h m don't worry according to reports experts think that maybe it's not any more dangerous than the first chemical not that we would really know considering how little information there is about what these chemicals actually do . but if you think that's a bad check this out according to business insider these exact chemicals have been poured into the water supply for decades joe stanley a west virginia minor told the site quote i watched the coal industry poison our water for years and c.h.m. was just one of the chemicals we were told was highly toxic but that we dumped an old mine shafts and slurry ponds and it's been seeping into the groundwater for years. these sums up his statement with one simple but grave warning don't drink the water while understandable when you take into account almost three
9:32 pm
quarters of all coal mines in the u.s. haven't been inspected and at least five years according to a.p. so if this story doesn't convince you that we should and our addiction to coal once and for all and i don't know what will and let's break the set. the example the times they are looking very hard to take that are putting on the line that you ever had sex with her but there are those. that believe. such. little. things.
9:33 pm
like. a periodic review board assigned in two thousand and eleven to deliberate the fate of guantanamo detainees just concluded its first session and its findings the board ruled that yemeni citizen and get no detainee mahmoud. he need is no longer a significant threat to the security of america the announcement comes as a sign of progress of these detainees many of whom were cleared for release years ago but the overclassification and the lack of transparency to trial observers journalists and the general public continues to raise doubts over whether closure of guantanamo will ever come to fruition this week marks five years since obama signed the real executive orders to ban torture close cia black sites and began the closure. america's most notorious prison so joining me now to discuss that secrecy that surrounds get now i'm joined by u.s. navy lieutenant commander kevin beaucoup thank you so much for coming on to that
9:34 pm
maybe it's a real honor over the last year there have been a handful of detainee transfers is this a positive sign that we should be expecting more of every let me start out by saying i represent along with various other excellent attorneys i represent three men who are currently detained at guantanamo bay and i will say this is a very positive sign in that last year eleven people were released from guantanamo bay. but eleven people per year even if we were to keep up that average you can see how long it would take to finally meet president obama's promise to close guantanamo bay we have to move much faster but the fact that the very first periodic review board came up with a result that mr mujahid no longer poses a threat to the united states is a very positive sign it at least shows that this board is willing to look at the facts as they are and to make an appropriate decision sure but for those who don't understand really how the process works that now that doesn't necessarily mean much
9:35 pm
it could just mean that he's been transferred to the last security threat level of detainee and being transferred some are still and definitely another prisoner correct me that's exactly what it means in the case of mr murdoch it he essentially gets transferred from a category of individuals who are being indefinitely detained pending the end of the war on terror whenever that's going to happen to a group of now seventy seven individuals who are i should say a group of yemeni detainees who are being detained indefinitely until such time as the united states decides that its relations with yemen are such that we can trust them to accept the return of their own citizens however we trust them enough to carry out drone strikes unabated in the country without argument doesn't really hold too much water to me let's talk about the periodic review board why did it take them three years to review this one case this is probably the biggest concern that we all have as you noted in march of two thousand and eleven by executive
9:36 pm
order president obama directed that these periodic review boards would take place in fact he said that they should take place within a year this was then codified in the national defense authorization act of two thousand and twelve so it became the law of the land and yet it took almost three years for the very first periodic review board to render its result. if this is the track record then we are never going to obtain significant results and let me note that the purpose of these periodic review boards is to identify the men who don't pose any threat to the united states and who are not going to be charged with any crime these men shouldn't be there in the first place these boards need to happen as quickly as possible because these men have been suffering now for upwards of twelve years there are men there wrongfully detained who have had no opportunity to prove their own innocence and we need to get these boards done so that at least
9:37 pm
they get one day before a panel and kevin another thing that you were telling me earlier is the limited access for trial observers journalists talk about that years recently returned from vietnam this is an issue that definitely needs to be resolved in in the case of this very first periodic review board which was essentially litigated by fine attorney named david remes there was no access by the press whatsoever and i think the media was surprised that something so significant would be held completely in secret i think the result has opened a lot of eyes and maybe future periodic review boards there will be greater transparency but honestly transparency is not something that we've come to expect at guantanamo it seems that they go to extreme measures to keep everything about the system there and the abuses that take place a complete secret from the american people and from the rest of the world and you've established relationships of these men where you can better represent them
9:38 pm
and anyone else could yet they're per vanny and that from happening which is kind of screen over the people even more here to get every it's the absurdity of guantanamo for five and a half years i've worked with these men i've established relationships with them i know their families i would love to represent these men at their periodic review boards and you know. an arbitrary decision was made that military attorneys cannot be part of this process even though we've established an attorney client relationship i can't be part of this process representing my men in the only hearing they will probably have for many years they've been at guantanamo bay unbelievably frustrating. five years ago those three executive orders that i mentioned previously concerning black sites torture what has been done to halt those programs do you know every let me say when president obama issued that first executive order promising to close guantanamo bay within a year there was
9:39 pm
a lot of excitement on our end at the office of the chief defense counsel we thought finally we were going to be be able to move ahead beyond this injustice that is one time obey and now so many years later we find ourselves in a position where guantanamo is still open where it still continues to damage the reputation of the united states in fact earlier this week a group of thirty one retired admirals and generals sent a letter to president obama asking him to renew his efforts to close guantanamo bay and what they said was that juan tommo does not serve the interests of america. as long as it remains open kuantan a mo will undermine the security and the status of america as a nation where human rights and the rule of law matter i don't know how you can say to me that it can't you get rid you really can't have and you know the thing that irks me the most is that people kind of blame the republicans for all this you know
9:40 pm
barriers that he's had to close it isn't it true that today obama could use a national security waiver to actually start the process of every single release of every detainee there and if so why isn't that being done well certainly with the national defense authorization act of two thousand and fourteen which we're currently operating under the the restrictions have been greatly loose i mean it used to be that a secretary would have to have votes for the fact that if we were to release somebody they absolutely would not engage in any misconduct now the standard is much more reasonable and so i would say yes the power has now been given to the executive to close guantanamo bay and do what needs to be done but if we're to wait for recommendations from these periodic review boards and they're moving at the snail's pace at which they're currently moving it's never going to happen and men who are never going to be tried with a crime will continue to sit at one time obey year after year after year without
9:41 pm
any hope of justice they're going to be dead before they get hurt by this periodic review board thank you for pushing on being the strength that they need to get justice for these people navy lieutenant commander kevin beaucoup you really appreciate you coming on thank you. you know i always ask you to write me and i know you think about this show so here's the time for your feedback on twitter at white knight who are. so whistleblowers are difficult subject for us to have any idea how many sources died after many of those documents let me take a wild guess zero who follows up by adding i was in kandahar at the time hundreds of sources were killed in the following weeks not enough to space to go into little detail yeah ok cool story bro but i do like that you expect me to believe the
9:42 pm
twitter stranger that hundreds of people have died as a result of many leaks despite zero evidence to actually back that up on the facebook in response to my tear down of kevin o'leary for saying it's been tested news that one percent owns one hundred ten trillion dollars nicholas d.c. says kevin donates millions he's into way mean he teaches people how to become rich he chose to answer without being forced into the narrative of feeling sorry for the core instead he chose empowerment to calm down and don't be so motional and sensationalistic. first of all thanks for revealing what you clearly think about a woman's opinion hysterical and overly emotional second i'm speechless at the sheer ignorance that someone can actually defend the notion that three billion people just need inspiration to get rich thanks nicholas i had no idea so easy it back to twitter at mail all says after seeing everyone's expos and nestle and

this week has been awfully busy for the country of switzerland and long trail john kerry is trying to stop the syria peace talks from collapsing in the u.n. secretary general and syrian foreign minister are sparring over who gets talk of longer in the negotiations the ones with the vent is overshadowing all of this a hollow to world economic forum in the city of davos is the this is a chance for all the genius business and economic leaders of the world to sit down
9:47 pm
knock some heads together and save the world from itself and this year tackling severe income inequality seems to be and major aim of the conference so of course as jon stewart points out financial journalists are making sure to hold these leaders accountable for coming up with some real solutions to this harrowing problem. we're talking about billionaires this place here the role of the number one that is out for the needing the cheesy swiss fondue last night the proprietor american my hotel gave us a private ride in his car because we couldn't get a taxi and i think that is me i feel cheap maybe there's a hierarchy here ok so when you have an all access badge yes we were able to get this fox business rocks. what you're getting is are you a financial journalist or just excited to be invited to the money oscars. now if you think that's hyperbole let's take a look at some of the events that are happening at the meeting of the minds actress gold. the hun is meeting in
9:48 pm
a panel on managing stress for the world's top business leaders because you know causing the collapse of the entire global economy can really take a toll on your blood pressure matt damon of all people is winning an award for his work bringing clean water and sanitation to impoverished areas of the world and while of course his contribution in this area is admired shouldn't really be a top priority to give an a lister yet another award to add to their pile and of course it wouldn't be a party without u two front man bono schmoozing with david cameron and growing capitalism as the only way to lift millions of people out of poverty but beyond hanging with just celebs the business and political elite are having an all out rage or and. in fact according to b.b.c. at the prestigious belvedere hotel alone form attendees have ordered one thousand five hundred ninety four bottles of champagne and and three thousand eight bottles of red and white wine for boozing it up at three hundred twenty parties in just
9:49 pm
five days who knew solving global inequality could be so much fun and you know the eighty billionaires in hundreds of millionaires have a good reason to celebrate according to the washington post the three hundred richest individuals on the planet increase their wealth by five hundred twenty four billion dollars over the course of last year. and it just wouldn't be a fun economic solutions get together without appearances from the who's who of the speculative banking world you know executives from aig just b.c. and citi group not to mention jamie dimon and lloyd blankfein the c.e.o. of j.p. morgan and goldman sachs if these are the people trying to tackle global equality that we might as well have justin bieber leave the mothers against drunk driving convention but perhaps most disturbing is a poll taken by prince waterhouse coopers among thirteen hundred or so business leaders at the forum when asked about their top economic concerns seventy two percent of. said over regulation of corporations no i didn't say that
9:50 pm
wrong over regulation because we all know that the two thousand and eight financial crisis was kicked off by too many government officials preventing banks from unloading toxic mortgages on a populace the people at the helm of solving global unequality are hollywood celebrities criminal bankers and giddy but kissing journalists so don't be fooled by all the hype because davos is really nothing more than a bunch of one percenters up in the alps laughing that you'll never have a golden ticket to the party. well you guys it's friday as usual i've been an intern dating with you guys the press seen as hell news all week so the line of food can't talk right now my good
9:51 pm
friend we can have those the moment of clarity webster is here to break it all down what is going to be so leave out of all of the. m.s.m. is obsession with justin bieber last week actually was really happy to hear congressman harman the same some really really cutting things about the n.s.a. . let's take a listen i think at this point we should seriously consider not not can comment on it let me let me ask you haven't you congressman let me interrupt you just for a moment we've got some breaking news out of miami standby if you will. right now in miami justin bieber has been arrested on a number of charges the charges teach reading the charges sort of low including resisting arrest and driving under the influence he's appearing now before the judge for his bond hearing let's watch. i read isn't it more important justin bieber's in court than global unconstitutional spiraling and i don't understand why you have a problem with the right. justin bieber is
9:52 pm
a national treasure not our nation canada but still he is a national treasure and you can make fun of you can make fun of on better capitalism obama the pope but i will not stand here while you insult the beeb's all right that isn't cbldf this we are going to face the baby obviously dealing with the right of course you have to interrupt and i send you stuff mass surveillance of whatever. really is incredible you know that as ridiculous as the media is for being infected with a little golden child here is it really great that they're finally covering wage that. they they are there finally go through wage theft because it's the oakland raiders cheerleaders is the jeweller's i know i don't know what it is about this one story that finally made them cover it i don't know if it was there is a lot so i i realized what those numbers are which they came up a little earlier but what they are is i realize that people are paying attention this because it's the cheerleaders so i've brought some stats for you as you can
9:53 pm
see and i made them in a way that americans would finally pay attention so there's eighteen point five million vacant homes vacant homes around the country there's three point five million homeless so that means every homeless person could have five homes if we just gave them built i think we should deal with it that way i think we should tell the corporatocracy look let's give the homeless people five homes and also you crazy and then we'll go let's compromise one home you have got that you lost me out of your leaders. i go numbers again those numbers are that if you combine all the u.s. millionaire households households it's fifty trillion dollars of wealth us millionaire households there it is now america will pay attention to that number right now they'll care ok now how much how much would it take to pay the u.n. is estimated to cut to end world hunger this year thirty billion and we have fifty trillion thirty billion the koch brothers alone could do it right and we have that number in a graphic i think we do to bring the graphic there now. and kids will care now they
9:54 pm
care now they get it see this is what we need to give kids in school. i mean it was spread around and talk about it wow incredible well you know you know it's amazing fox news covering this sure there's the bounce and you just got to throw those numbers on the nipples and then you're all good we. you know speaking of billionaires have you heard about the real life elise the i'm being created in nigeria this is absolutely ridiculous it's all the rich people who are building their own little you know their own little hub that they can you know when climate change comes down when the fan they'll have their own little terrarium i mean how do you feel about the apartheid to point to here you know it's a it's a fake island which i think is great you know you when the devastation that you've created comes you go off to your little fantasy world they could you know they could call it up its own planet pluto for plutocracy if they could have a home planet there i think it's a great idea and plus they put it there because the people are like living in
9:55 pm
squalor it's outside nigeria the people are living in squalor so that's easy workers those are disposable people according to the writer so it's easy to work for nothing that's why my clothing shop is actually in the north pole that's where i want it to work shop because no one told melting those also worked for nothing so it's great we're there earth will just be falling apart they'll just be happy to have something to work on speaking of wages that let's go back to oakland cheerleaders again i just can't get enough of that story but there is you have to. get enough of that stuff there is actually fantastic news to report when it comes to wages lee i have to play this. as the. world eighty five richest people is equal to the three and a half billion poorest people it's fantastic and this is a great thing because it aspires everybody gets the motivation to look up to the one percent and say i want to become one of those people i'm going to fight hard to get up to the top this is fantastic news and of course i applaud. what could be wrong. with this yes really i mean isn't it amazing that really just the three and
9:56 pm
a half billion people will just get the inspiration to be rich i mean you just write yourself up firebirds sounds even if you don't have bootstrap even if you don't have boots even to live through. will strap water bottles to the palm of pizza pull yourself up by your water bottles ok you know this clip actually is kind of inspiring because it shows that in this country it doesn't matter if you're black white old young or even a sociopath you can become rich like kevin o'leary even sellafield sociopath's can make it in this country see american dream and dream of turning up the only people who can make it. seems. and of course the point one per cent of the one percent does that mean to davos switzerland this week for an economic forum the one and only goldie hawn modern a panel on how to alleviate your stress leave because really nearly causing the entire collapse of the global financial system is stressful it's stressful
9:57 pm
sometimes have you ever tried to get barbecue sauce out of a diamond tiara it's very difficult ok it's very stressful it is but i also did read that they're doing some things to consider the you know the underprivileged the people having trouble around the world like during the hot stone hand massage yoga they're doing the giving pose so they're just to remember the giving to the giving pose and the chocolate water fountains actually the lifeguard they've hired as an underprivileged child to talk about water so that they're considering the poor while they're there. oh my god of course our fair back out banker jamie dimon just got a raise despite owing billions dollars in the company but i think he deserves it don't you. think you deserve it look. you're acting surprised i mean did you expect tony soprano to stop leading the mafia no you want a thought that you want to thaw if you're running a massive bank you want to bug you go to he lied to investors during the during the london. whale scandal and now they can raise more money you got
9:58 pm
