12:00 am
it's only a matter of hours before the official start of the twenty fourth scene when games anticipation is growing with the entry exit around in the opening ceremony just adding to the excitement. and who says the competition is just on the ice and snow with sports teams from across the globe now gathered in tsotsi would begin handing out the fashion gongs at the winter olympics to the weird the wonderful and overly bryants and just the downright bizarre. plus embarrass us diplomats tried to laugh off an apparently hacked explicit phone chat over how they could sailor the next ukrainian government's.
12:01 am
you're watching r t ensor national with me marina call survivor warm welcome. now less than twenty four hours left before the flame of the winds here games is lets out the olympic stadium and saucy some of the competitions have already kicked off bought the world is holding its breath for the official opening ceremony that organizers promise will be mind blowing artie's paul scholes is in the olympic capital for us. seven years since she won the right to host the winter olympics and in a few hours time will see the culmination of all that hard work and all the planning for the twenty fourteen sochi winter olympics officially gets underway without ceremony it kicks off local time eight fourteen pm now i was fortunate enough to get
12:02 am
a ticket for the final dress rehearsal on cheese dave and i can tell you that the forty thousand plus spectators inside the stadium are going to see a high tech state of the art pyrotechnic display but i can actually tell you too much more than that i'm sworn to secrecy at the moment it's going to culminate with the lighting of the olympic cauldron and all of the opening ceremony hasn't actually taken place yet some of the sporting events have already begun as you mentioned and these athletes that are spoke to say that sochi is ready to welcome the sporting world thirsts fresh telling good we've been riding every day. like states have this much success. so easily. ride out the. signs but every. so yes. i think the russians are very enthusiastic about sport and about the olympics so i
12:03 am
expect them to play great hosts of the world and so far what i've seen has been very impressive and i can't wait to get down to the venues and see the competition again this evening we'll also see the climax of the olympic torch relay within the last twenty four hours or so in the final stages of its journey the in picture has been carried by a number of high profile figures including russia's foreign minister sergei lavrov he took time out of his extremely busy show to pick up the baton as did u.n. secretary general ban ki moon he's going to be in attendance at the savings or. playing ceremony of course is the climax of the journey which has seen it travel sixty five thousand kilometers across the world's largest country it's been to the bottom of the world's deepest lake it's been to the top of europe's highest peak has been to the north pole to space as well it really has been an incredible journey for the olympic torch in august organizers say it's almost mission accomplished it's of course the. biggest in time in history so it's been
12:04 am
a huge logistical effort to make this happen in russia in winter time but it's been a fantastic journey and i mean every dream we had before we started has really come through the olympic torch is going to wind its way through such a towards the fish stadium for tonight's opening ceremony as it does that the excitement in and around this region is really tough because the twenty fourth saying such a winter olympics just hours away well we've got a team of correspondents working across all the vang's all the a live. report by paul scott will be talking some throughout the day he's actually right here. where the olympic park is and where the opening ceremony will take place this evening now there are athletes and five kinds of sports that will be competing right here and then the rest will happen up there in the mountain cluster and the sports looking far off it's actually only half an hour ride away and farmer is there for us.
12:05 am
when russia won the right to host these olympics there wasn't even a paved road leading to the roads or who tour never mind a tally cabin but now look at it it is a fully fledged european style ski village there are hotel chains here is what is restaurants and cafes and there's even a nightclub around the corner but this place is in it for the long haul because long after the olympics have packed up and gone home it's hope that many thousands of tourists will come here for decades to come to something like sixty kilometers worth of ski runs and three ski areas around this place and that is set to be expanded so this little tour even though it's been short does show that there's much more to these olympics than just sporting venues it's all about the overhaul and the entire regeneration of a region. it's not just scale and sportsmanship that's not the olympics says one more competition and despite no warts it's still going to catch. it's all about the uniforms with top designers worldwide putting all their efforts to make that seems
12:06 am
the gold standard fashion artie's more. results. said they got some tongues over what people will wear tonight let's first of all start with the german team because they'll certainly get some attention with what they're wearing it's a childish kind of outfit with bright pink yellow and green and blue but german team said they get lots of attention right now for moving on to one of my favorites we have the outfit by ruff lauren and the team from the u.s. it really is something quite stylish featuring. red white and blue with. the codes as they're called and the slim sweat pants with fear flaps it was unveiled by russia around last year and i really think they'll look. as they walk around the session tonight from something quite acceptable to something quite extreme let's move on to the norwegian clothing team and take
12:07 am
a look at this outfit wow talk about standing out from the crowd we have a zigzag design in red white and blue similar to the u.s. but the curling team said that they want to feel ease on the ice with this outfit if they're not bursting into hysterical laughter certainly feel that he's wearing that rather than me but yet again get some attention moving on to somebody else who's going to have his outfit in the spotlight and that is the mexican slalom olympian his name is. to follow and he's a descendant of a german world he's actually only one eighth mexican he's wearing this suit alero outfit with his ruffled tuxedos red tie and come about and he's the second oldest limping to take part in the olympic games. as you can see what. he looks absolutely . beautiful wearing that and good luck to him with the slot and finally we have the russian bombshell and she's bringing
12:08 am
a little heat to the. she's actually posed recently for a magazine right featuring a. and she'll certainly you know she's not just a pretty face but she's certainly creates some p.r. media regarding the curling events over the next month so there we have it the opening ceremony will take place tonight twenty fourteen that's forty minutes past eight to represent the twenty fourteen let's look forward to it will be carrying the flame by the way whoever carries that all eyes will be on the fashion of what people are wearing on the twenty fourteen opening opening of the winter olympics and to stay with us as we begin our special coverage of the games from our olympic studio and saw. the g twenty fourteen promises we call to make an exhilarating winter in our team in germany and you see now
12:09 am
a make over now in the russian parliament make news team for sochi twenty four take . on. phone call of washington's behind the scenes kind of thing for ukraine's next leader house calls red faces at the state department so that would be great i think to help glue this thing and have the u.n. help glue it and you know be you then the parent conversation with the ambassador in kiev the u.s. is top diplomat for europe victoria nuland outlined a failsafe skiing so forth and governments and left very little very special role to the e.u. here's our new york correspondent marina portnoy with more on the lake and the details of that. well what you hear during this four minute conversation is basically two top u.s. officials strategizing about how to form ukraine's new government it sounds like they're playing a game of chess with the opposition leaders as the pieces on that chess board
12:10 am
they're trying to determine which opposition leader has the best economic and governing experience to work inside ukraine's new government and which opposition leaders should remain on the outside it's a bit shocking to actually hear i had to listen to it a few times to really grasp the fact that there are strategizing on how to put together the government of another country instead of paraphrasing everything let's let our viewers actually take a listen for themselves. the piece was obviously that complicated electronics you're. going to miss deputy prime minister and you've seen some of our notes on the troubles in the marriage right now so we're trying to get a read really fast and work here on this stuff i'm glad you sort of put it on the spot on where he fits in the scenario so i don't think leetch should go into the government i don't think it's necessary i don't think it's a good idea in terms of going into the government just let him sort of stay out in
12:11 am
doofus judical homework and stuff i think he is the guy who's got the economic experience the governing experience he's the he's the guy you know what he needs his cleats in tiny book on the outside he needs to be talking to them four times a week well clearly this is a highly embarrassing situation for the united states particularly because we've been hearing u.s. officials insist for so long that they're not involving themselves in into ukraine's internal circumstance but for more of the spokesperson for the for the u.s. state department she had a pretty difficult day on thursday jen psaki was put in the hot seat by journalists one after another reporters kept asking her why u.s. officials are interfering in ukraine's internal problems at one point corresponded said point blank that the leaked conversation show was she's attempting to construct a new government in a sovereign country and actually bring officials in from the un to seal the deal one thing u.s. officials had not spin their way out of it is the profanity and dismissive tone
12:12 am
victoria nuland used when referring to the european union and its involvement in ukraine for that an apology was issued she's been in close contact with a representative ashton also let me convey that she has been in contact with the e.u. counterparts and and of course has apologized but. for these reported comments of course she is not confirming. she's under snow going to speak . to a private diplomatic conversation but i'm obviously speaking to the content of the reports. misaki also tried to make somewhat of a joke when she was in damage control mode when she was referring to the use of profanity when it came to victoria nuland the assistant secretary of state let's take a listen you may know the story of how she lived on the russian boat for about eight months when she was twenty three in she learned how to perfect perhaps certain
12:13 am
words in a couple of languages so perhaps it speaks to that more than a pervasive viewpoint you know suggesting that she has a predisposition against russian no i was suggesting that she learned russian curse words and curse words on the diseases of these. i was making and learning the first words on a fishing boat there you see a us folks person trying to make a joke out of a situation that is quite scandalous quite embarrassing not sure if any. official in ukraine are laughing at this moment after their hearing this leaked conversation on you tube about you know the united states strategizing on how to build a new government in a sovereign country foreign policy export in the bozo model it points out the u.s. may be trying to divert public attention away from unspoken political tricks. we have a situation where a high ranking official of the u.s.
12:14 am
government who's even been to kiev an issue of what was distributing cookies to the demonstrators back when they were still relatively peaceful is referring to these guys as as you know glitch see in tiny book i would i would seriously be upset i would i would consider this an insult she's apologized for a comment to she's not admitting she made which is itself a confirmation that the comment was mean to me but will she hasn't apologized for is the plans to midwife a new government in ukraine in other words she's she's apologizing for you but she's not apologizing for trying to overthrow a government in kiev and calling that popular democracy obviously there's more to it than that i don't think anybody in the us establishment to sawrey for what they're trying to do i think they're very proud of it and i think they're going to pursue it. and if you want more our web site has got all the links to the leak itself as well as the reaction of the u.s. state department that's all there for you at artsy dot com.

the problem begins at the level of bad legislation that's created an environment where dragnet spying becomes the official policy of the government the three letter agencies bad laws created the situation it's only better laws are going to remove that pressure that's going to that's going to effectively say on a policy level we don't think dragnet spying i.e. collecting a massive haystack and then trying to find little needles in is the way to go so one of the things that you find out when he talked a lot to young people as i do is that they they simply don't trust that stuff they put up now that it's supposed to be for just ex-wives and close friends will wake up one day now everyone seeing it right you know they they don't they want to if they want a service they like that center where i lived only or wherever i go to that you see it as i go to be shaking hands with one to go but i gotta tell you something about is going to go ahead asking you i jump in blogger so i want to know why i want to remind everyone that facebook being a private company doesn't mean that they have necessarily have the public interest in good i mean there was a quote from mark zuckerberg that came out several years ago where he said that is

tongues for a broad overhaul of border control laws demanding that president obama hauled deportation of millions of american young people the white house is consistently said that obama cannot illegally expand the effort what do you think of all this. well. doug meyer it's impossible to move forward. this has become a political issue to gain votes on both sides and i got to tell you this is really what the issue becomes whenever humanity's place behind politics we have a big issue and the issue is that a lot of children a lot of families who have come here for years been here for decades are getting separated more than ever in the history of this country under any president we're getting shipped they're sending people back now that should make a lot of people happy and i'm sure a lot of people that are watching and us and that's good that's good they should have been here the problem is none of us should have been here if that's the case

we all immigrated here if you all come on eddie don't start that when do you stop that when you tell the native american indians excuse us for taking over the entire situation here never no that's old news we're talking about today you want amnesty for all i would like to see something done immediately the humanistic aspect of what we're talking about. the separation of families the inconsistency why are they coming here larry out of a need different company here to get rich the coming here to survive you have water on one side and you have no water over here they're going to go where the water is and that's the simple direct are you saying the obama administration is not an advocate of of ending all this stupidity isn't calling on the immigration issue you think obama's been bad on your side. my side is not side it's humanistic how do you assess obama assess him as being someone that has spoken very clearly on issues
12:30 am
that are good for him and his party and i got to say the democrats are very pro your side well they're prone respects of trying to make things happen but guess what they haven't been able to and the reason is because of the separation of the different parties in this country why are you blaming obama because under his watch if the buck stops with him under his watch more people have been deported now than they've ever been deported in the history of this country but he's advocating reform he wasn't specific but he's advocating reform of the whole immigration situation well is he strong enough to make it go through what he won easily is what do you want him to do honestly logically honestly he would have to sit down with everybody on both sides and work this thing through no one point the senate had a bill that they pushed through an idea and of course it was stopped in the house and then we've also had a sit.
