representatives through legislation would have. the right to discriminate against. the u.s. agrees to provide medical treatment to a russian. foreign ministry. that helps.
4:01 am
the world. go. very soon joining. a decision by the kansas house of representatives to build which would have allowed the legal discrimination of gay couples was met with across america a somewhat embarrassed state senate now plans to sink the legislation which would have allowed people to use their religious beliefs to openly deny services. to homosexual couples. kansas lawmakers have outraged the gay community here in the u.s. says you know last year the u.s. supreme court ruled that the ban on same sex marriage is unconstitutional so you have states that have embrace this ruling and you have states that are trying to shield themselves from that ruling and here's how kansas is doing it kansas
4:02 am
lawmakers have passed a bill that would allow businesses and state government employees to deny services to same sex couples if quote it would be contrary to their sincerely held religious beliefs so according to these lawmakers forcing businesses or state employees to deliver services to same sex couples is a violation of their freedom of religion and speech gay rights advocates are of course outraged over this some say it could be worse than party simply not allowing gay marriage because we're talking about services that could include medical care so state hospitals can potentially turn away gay couples at the door and deny treatment and this bill would protect them from discrimination lawsuits if a gay couple calls the police an officer may refuse to help them on religious grounds that's how broad the language of this kansas bill is we're asking residents of washington d.c. one of the most gay friendly cities in the u.s.
4:03 am
what they think about this bill. i think it's really terrible i think that employees should not be able to just like not let same sex couples have the same benefits as regular married couples based on their religious beliefs that's a fundamental contradiction of separation of church and state he like that's why. why why do you think that. i don't think that the state. should be able to force people to do things that go against their religious beliefs kansas's not alone so-called religious example law so be. proposing i don't home mississippi or ohio oklahoma and oregon twenty states have laws protecting residents from discrimination based on their sexual orientation but most states do not and it seems last year's supreme court's decision and the overall trend toward equal rights for gay couples have prompted some of these conservative states to
4:04 am
take an even more aggressive stance against the gay community in washington i'm going to r t r a lot still to come on all of the international including edward snowden's lawyer detained and interrogated by customs officials in london it's just the latest such incident she was put through and watch two things whistleblowers are being specifically targeted by certain countries. for the meantime let's get some action here on r.t. international some early success for russia. today in the form of a silver medal that in the snowboarding that will do nothing the second place standing in the overall medal table let's go live now to our headquarters. with the details on a nice and unexpected spot on the podium but. yes indeed russian fans certainly celebrating this tuesday russia wasn't to take any medals in the snowboarding but there you go that's the magic of the olympics

nicholai at noon and finished second in the cross the country's first ever medal in that sport he was put by his french rival but stayed ahead. in third is the twenty ten world junior champion and before the sochi games said he was planning to retire well if he does at least tell now go out on a high now for a wider look at the winter games so far i'm now glad to welcome to our sochi studio craig reedy the i.o.c. vice president thank you so much for finding time to come and talk to us are you happy with how the games have gone so far in sochi. being marvelous particularly for the r.c. church because if you give the combination of which to live if you give. to compete and full of really good fun then you're going to get great sports so we're very happy what do you think makes sochi special as opposed to other olympic host cities
4:06 am
other games that you've been i worked at a while i can't remember. the way there's been here in sochi before winter games the other thing too is that if you are building a winter site from saw when you got the. you end up with the reno for the alpine of and she was. trying all finishing in the same arena and that makes a great deal of change and the excitement people in all these people get used to know the arrangement so i don't have to see the television pictures just spectacular from the sochi games were certainly making headlines before the games even started to you think that the media frenzy that we saw was justified now that you're here. media frenzy. it was a media frenzy before london on security issues something that the i.o.c. issues through but what has happened here you know games. starts and people talking
4:07 am
to sports people see us each competing well people see some of the. medals all of the media speculation dies right down in sport takes over the point of view but it's even better if you're also the head of the world anti-doping agency often anti doping the situation causes scandal at the olympics it's been relatively quiet here at sochi it was not expected. conducted entirely by the international olympic committee. quiet and quite rightly they don't share any information with me it should be. confidential but if it is quiet that's good news because that means the competition testing that has been done perhaps frighten people off. the cheat to the big games they would rather be called here or since we have the right to store some pulls over eighteen years they will be caught eventually and with

russia needing a win against norway as artie's farmer now reports. there's only one place to start of the moment that's the men's ice hockey because russia take on norway for a place in the quarter finals the pressure is mounting on the host soft they failed to reach the last eight automatically but they really should beat this norwegian side to have lost their three opening games and also many have something like one player in the n.h.l. compared to something like russia's sixteen however there's been no word of caution from one soviet legend. i think it's going to be a. little bit of. one thing for the team because you have played against or. but it's you have to or understand you know there is no. fixed so you have to be aware they have to respect your plate against you know that same time you have a chance like to see you from one of the nations and to see what's. what you have today and. what you plan for the next trial to
4:10 am
a quarter finals well many people are predicting a russian win but what about the norwegians there are plenty of them here and we caught up so i expect that norway will lose so i saw the game with. this a. really strong expect to be very interesting and. know we will do good but i think the russian bear will crush them unfortunately for us and we'll see whether those predictions come true at the bolshoi manipulator almost before that norwegian fans will be cheering up here in the mountains because the heavy fog from yesterday does appear to have lifted and that means the men's starts in the biathlon will go ahead only on a billion dollar and it's a norwegian he's going in that he's off to i reckon the winter olympic medalist for the russian interest you to do look out for the name if you can get any chance he's looking to add to the bronze medal he got last week. for the sochi games have been

full of examples of limpid persis students number more so than canadian snowboarder dominique multiroom the thirty three year old won silver in the woman snowboard cross taking some revenge for her heart breaking to feet in vancouver four years ago back then suffered a bad crass in training before the race started injured and in pain she finished twentieth and failed to pass the qualification ground so a great comeback for her here and sochi and she told us she was happy with the slopes too as well as getting a chance to meet some new people. you know it's my third time in racing in sochi last year to get this no condition was. uneasy for sure but this year it's it's only spring condition and we we used to race in those kind of snow fields going up on the show and then they would add that a good many moons course was really good and they did a great job in the forest it was there for sure they could be bigger and we used to ride but it was really fun and good speed good show and. just good like if it would
4:12 am
keep the c.r.t.c. is great experience for everyone and i would like to see them for sure and we've seen some real breakthroughs here at the winter games we mention that snowboard cross medal for russia quite historic here is what will go down in olympic history u.s. ice dancing pair meryl davis and charlie white skated away from their rivals being awarded a record one hundred and ninety five point fifty two points and here's another hero of the day belorussian athlete daria she won her third gold in the biathlon mass start race becoming the first woman to win three buyouts along gold medals in one of the impacts. but there is always the chance of more records and historic breakthroughs here in sochi with a week to go will be closely following what's happening here on the slopes tracks and in the stadiums but for now back to you in moscow all right also using this in

will finally receive medical treatment after russian diplomats insisted he was in need of urgent attention constantine got a shank oh he's been suffering severe pain and according to his lawyer could be right on the verge of a heart attack and we spoke to a mother who insisted her son is simply being left to die. i sometimes look at his picture and think to myself you would let me take your pain knowing i will survive it all if only my son came home. i only get to talk to him once a week it's too expensive to call you know when you view he's not guilty why are they driving him to his death what did he do wrong i keep asking what evil did he cause to the united states what did he do did he kill somebody did he rob somebody no he's not guilty of any crime. moscow is still waiting for washington to allow a russian delegation of deploy about to actually visit her in prison an associate now takes a look back at the case of the pilot. and twenty ten detained in liberia in

she was detained by customs officials and faced what she describes as a hostile questioning it was a line of questioning that went beyond the usual that went into who i represent as an attorney any kind of line of questioning into my into the details of my work and specific clients is beyond the ambit of what any normal customs official would ask i've never been asked these kinds of questions and found it to be very intimidating and hostile and in a similar case journalist david miranda was detained as well at london's heathrow airport that was an august last year he was questioned for nine hours and all of his electronic equipment was seized just because of his loose affiliation with edward snowden just saying this is a very wide trend. i feel like lawyers and journalists are now beginning to be targeted at the borders of countries in the western hemisphere in so-called
4:20 am
democratic countries and it's a threat to press freedom when journalists are questioned and it's a threat to the integrity of the judicial system when attorneys who are working on someone's case are being harassed or intimidated on the basis of who they represent or write to venezuela now which is given three u.s. consular officials forty eight hours to leave the country in response to a week of national on rest have a look at this. i just saw some of the president nicolas maduro now accusing american officials of fueling protests all under the guise of visiting universities to pieces washington's calling the allegations baseless at least three people were fatally shot last we can choose between pro and anti-government demonstrators. banking giant barclays is facing

4:25 am
that like david korten is in power way too long and that it is known that he will win the election before the vote even started then regarding critics of the kremlin alexei in the bayani a galaxy never really is putin's opponent and he has always that cleared it out loud and many people think that's the only reason why he had to go to jail. if i don't ask leafs go into the winter games of the end to find they find it bad that human rights in russia are not always respected. concept of the program make his state funded channels the d.s. the us to specifically for an interview about potential for use in the show they declined but did so and this reply by email. is aimed at children aged eight to twelve years old children appreciate logo manages to portray even the most complex topics which children to understand moreover daily reactions of children to the show are that they're mostly on board with logo content data reported this also

applies to political issues whether national or international policy. children are being used in the media as a tool for that they should be told that everything that comes from t.v. has been pretty chewed and now go out there and prove for yourself the opposite they always tell the negative things if it's different it's bad if it's different it's dangerous sin city if we're prepared to give me an interview i want to speak to those who fund the broadcaster janet taxpayers this is not. too don't take what else tell them as truth at that age with this kind of information would do no good for our kids child psychologists also agree that children as young as eight fully capable of real critical sorts what is being shown to them at that age they are not rebellious they're questioning and they might not quite believe this program an eight year old can't put the whole picture they gather these are all of the artsy germy all right thanks for watching about super may the cause report is next.

transit route to vnukovo report your best way to the heart of moscow. i did first state of the city address new york mayor bill de blasio said that he would put forward legislation for the city to issue special municipal identification cards to undocumented immigrants he summed up his feelings by saying
4:28 am
to all my fellow new yorkers who are undocumented i say new york city is your home too and we will not force any of our residents to live their lives in the shadows yeah that sounds nice but the reason these illegal immigrants live their lives in the shadows is because they immigrated illegally why should new yorkers bend over backwards for illegal criminal immigrants this is the same logic that if i catch a guy breaking into my house as a gracious host i should offer him a pizza because it's his home too this is not just a slap in the face to rule of law but also to the immigrants who do go through the bureaucracy and headaches to become u.s. citizens the right way the legal way so the blasio if you're going to provide these illegal immigrants with some sort of document it should be a plane ticket back home with instructions on how to apply for a green card the legit proper way just like everyone else has to fashion just my opinion.
