wounds now they are saying that this is the first time that the activists the opposition protesters are using live ammunition however the opposition is saying. that the five dead that they have that they are reporting are also have also been killed with live and also really unclear what's going on there as you have seen there are people who are dual like they could be wearing some sort of special gear was if they are from the police at the same time. the police force as you can see all hell is breaking loose in the in the ukrainian capital right now earning fires burning all over the place actually all over the center of the city and actually one person was also found dead after the police have cleared out the office of the ruling party party of the regions which was earlier taken over by protesters and essentially set on fire by molotov cocktails this is what they have been using

stand to be authorities need to do that but on the other hand how can they prevent the number of victims from growing. i think it's very difficult to actually prevent these things from the police's point of view because because of people coming onto the streets and the calls of people having. deciding to use violence and becoming extremely frustrated with the causes that they're they're espousing. they're not directly caused by the police there's nothing the police can do to stop that frustration and to stop that. being being a problem being something that they want to protest and resist. something that has to be done at a political level to a certain extent police get caught in the middle of these things have to try and maintain order on the streets and yet they find it very difficult. in numbers you know in any country in the world the number of people far outweighs the number of

police officers no matter what the setup is and so it's extremely difficult for the police to meaningfully stop these things happening before they start to what extent do you think the government remains in control of the city. i think when you look at the situation of you know is a government in control in any context governments are there to provide safety in order within their borders and when they're not able to do that through the use of the place in the army or whatever then you begin to ask the question again something. a former police officer not a politician. and a philosophical question about when they've lost control or not i think that's one for politicians and for police officers and what can you say about the people who are on the streets right now on the streets of kiev who they are what kind of psychology they're. i think you probably got the mix of people that have

got genuine grievance that are wishing to make a protest that are hoping to make change by protesting and by voicing their opinions in a lawful or at least a reasonable lawful why we've no violence and little or no breaching of the laws. but it would seem that you've also got significant numbers of people that are willing to use extreme levels of violence that just can't be justified as part of peaceful protest and again we get to the philosophical question of when do the people resist the government as opposed to just protest and try and make changes when the government. you've got people that are obviously using very extreme levels of violence that are just entirely inconsistent with the concept of peaceful protest. live from london thank you very much indeed for your time and for sharing your perspective whether it's. stay with our sleep or the latest updates from
