7:31 pm
a sale item the you've had the right wing trying to sell for so long that is that the government is just wholly dysfunctional that by its very nature it doesn't work and this is been since look since the new deal you've had this idea that government at any moment is going to implode and you you have a certain part of the population that buys into that you know in their eye and dried foods and lead back to the sky is falling let me get my you know let me get my forty seven and go to woods unfortunately unfortunately if you look at public opinion they have the right wing has been very successful in trying to scare the hell out of everybody and you know what the media has been a big part of that unfortunately the corporate media has been a huge part of trying to sell the idea the government doesn't work well part of it is in the in the in the corporate media the imperative is to get eyeballs city it's
7:32 pm
all of you advertisers and by screaming dysfunctional government train wreck you know this guy hates this guy you know and turning basically the governance of the united states into a w w f match you know it's. it's i mean they're not just not serving our country i'm with you it's so so net net for our for our listener it was a mark i think he said marcus marcus chill out the government is not going to collapse i mean we may face some really serious crises i would be much more concerned about what's going to happen as sea level goes up as mile wide tornado starts rolling across the country particularly in an era when theme is being cut by by the sequester next video keep in in syracuse new york. this is cute at syracuse university with gerrymandering and the two party oligopoly are district system is broken so shouldn't we move to a proportional system of representation where everybody's i do you are
7:33 pm
proportionally represented. great question by understanding the history of this is that you know it's been about three thousand years since there was a real democracy when one of the founders put together ours and they didn't have a whole lot to work with other than you know looking at the roman republic in the group of democracy to three thousand years ago and they put this thing together with first past the post winner take all actions in seven hundred eighty seven and seven hundred eighty eight as they're trying to sell it james madison gets a sudden oh my god and realizes this is going to lead to a two party system and he writes federalist number ten saying don't do the art you know and it wasn't until eight hundred forty one i mean you know i have long after madison was dead that john stuart mill in his book on for on liberty i think it was title came up with the idea of proportional representation and laid it out and so it was you know all at that point there were only six democrat democracies in the world and so basically all the democracies that came along after eight hundred forty one modern european democracies asian democracies whatever they all embrace
7:34 pm
proportional representation which is where if a party gets twelve percent of the vote they get twelve percent the seats they get forty percent vote to get forty percent of the seats we've got those two party winner take all thing the other there are seven countries in the world that have this we do greece as new zealand australia and i forget what the other ones are but new zealand australia fixed it with instant voting so if i step out of this i think it's very good snapshot what we have a given it comes back to this idea i hate to say everything's based on fear but let me let me run something by ok when you say socialist in this country right what what the what happens so it was all my god you know it's like the economy the economy revolution is right around the corner or you say communist years there but i was what i had been think it upton sinclair running was at sinclair in california ok if he says look i'm want to run on a party that's not quite democrat it certainly is not republican kind of hard to
7:35 pm
describe but he called himself a democrat but. the truth was he was way way to the left the attack on him was he was a frenzied crazy so anytime you start talking third party in this country the media is the first person the first in to tea to start saying well this guy is just a fringe crazy rather than looking at what is this person have to offer does the democratic party really represent america anymore i don't think so they they have been as much a part is the divide between one percent ninety nine percent to some degree is the republicans have you have this new animal called the wall street democrat we've never seen one except when bill clinton took office we started seeing a more and more big jump from l.b.j. when you could say really wall street democrats were involved republican party has become so dysfunctional it's barely recognizable as a political entity so isn't it time for somebody to say you know what i might take it on the chin i might get the hell beat out of me but shouldn't i try we have to have more parties in this country and we can't be afraid of that right and but
7:36 pm
structurally to make it possible so that you don't have the what was i mean ralph nader didn't actually flip florida it is george bush but that was the hit. and so you don't have that problem of the third party stepping on the second part to fix that you can do an instant runoff voting or we could it cost amend the constitution to have proportional representation but anyhow we have i think you know in seattle we just had the socialist socialist mayor yeah she was on this program not a member and a member of the city council now separate church yeah it's a it's a it's marvelous ok let's pick up some calls or ed in here in pennsylvania you want to talk about fracking tonight at eight tom i was going to talk about broccoli but if you don't mind i would rather switch over to dick cheney you know over thirty year rock kuwaiti war you got might have been tito with yeah he could actually but investigators were really good that they have the patent on that most of it and used to kill iraq's oil when she goes to interview with peter. well. yeah
7:37 pm
i had forgotten about that saddam hussein's combat beef against kuwait was that they were doing a horizontal drilling right to teach golders oil right all right yeah so shady was running a hell of an oliver so there's no doubt and then that to the emir of kuwait because they held their words on a little earlier in pennsylvania where i live. there is the head banks on the call pat he thought yeah we'll see a more soon they're going to be horizontally drilling for water because fracking his destroyed everybody's aquifer and water system follow those stories i know you do the destruction to our our water system is deplorable our aquifer is precious right now you have industry already trying to figure out how they can bottle in-cell water because they know what's happening in this country right now look at california sixty days you have counties in california that won't have water water will become the new oil in there we're going to see a lot of horizontal to report to the next stage to try to get water and that and
7:38 pm
that by the way seems to be coinciding with global warming and this year disintegration of the polar shield that kept the but make no mistake fracking has a big part of this oh yeah and while it's also it's releasing enormous amounts of methane which is vastly more potent as a greenhouse gas than carbon dioxide at least for thirty forty fifty years or thereabouts derrick in detroit nation. wanted to mention or talk about my book the crash twenty sixteen are literally a crash of twenty six to. extract very. i didn't get it very quick that i may you it might be. god. you guys should be and i haven't been here i won't follow you thank you. and you get there at basic when i ask you tom. could you just briefly describe what's going to happen before the heat and what should normal people like me so do to prepare or to that we thank you very much. thanks
7:39 pm
thanks for the call. in terms of the premise of the crash twenty sixteen is twofold one is that you know history goes in cycles we get we make a horrible mistake we learn from it over the next you know we pay for that mistake we have a depression and a war then we figure out how to prevent it we do that for about fifty or sixty years then the last person who remembers the mistake time dies and we have twenty years a stupid and it falls apart again so every eighty years we have a crash followed by war eighty years ago it was the crash of twenty nine followed by world war two eighty years before that was a crash eight hundred fifty six or eighty years before that was the crash in seventy eight seventy followed by the by the revolutionary war eighty years before that there was another crash eighty years before that there was the crash that followed by the war of the roses i mean tractors all are back to the fourteenth century but that's not the principal promise the principal one is that this crash that i'm predicting for twenty sixteen actually started in two thousand and six two thousand and seven it hit us in two thousand and eight and instead of resolving the
7:40 pm
problems that a stop in the stupid what we did was we threw baling wire and bubblegum at it and obama is trying to inflate the bubble right now and the whole thing off and the reason i pick two thousand and sixteen is i think obama's doing the same thing that bush was doing bush saw this coming in two thousand and six and said ok we're going to try to hold this off until after november he wasn't able to hit before that and so a that's my analysis and some of the book you don't know and b. what do you do about it i don't know i really don't know i i would say either get totally out of debt or totally in debt but anyhow your thoughts on this pat well my my my take on your book first of all is it's a book about hope really it's the ending is there's hope the ending is you know all those stupid years we learned human we learn from them and we can do better unfortunately there is such there's been such a demise of intellectual ism in the country in
7:41 pm
a lot of it is right here within the beltway we would be horrified to interview twenty house representatives to find out really how much insight they have we'd be terrified by it would scare the hell out of us marty in minneapolis we have just a minute marty quick question for perhaps. you know i just want to know what. treason is and how member of congress could be brought charges on that and overlay that to any action p.p.p. issue already thank you a legal question for america's lawyer sir well i think that any action on t.v. if he's going to not not rush to the level of treason it makes this you know when we use words like treason and impeachment it makes us feel better you know we're going to impeach this person this person is committed treason but in the truth it's merely part of the political agenda is going to play itself it's been playing itself out for two hundred years it's going to continue to play itself the thing
7:42 pm
you can do is actually pick up the tell tell it all make that call say dammit no t.p. for the p.p. for me that has better success than a call to the treason charge and participate with the outside the political structure organizations like citizen dot org you know exactly alternator sort of lori wallach is carrying on the good work so my cap and tonio thanks so much for being with us and thank you that's great having you and that's it for your take my take live all your calls don't if you didn't get your call back next week keep the video calls coming by the way it's easy just grab your phone pointed at yourself and record your question or comment and e-mail it to us your take my take at g.-mail dot com coming up it's time for white americans to wake up and help heal the wounds caused by four hundred years of slavery and discrimination in our country more on that it's nice to.

back to the big picture the federal communications commission will not stand up for internet freedom and once they have c.c. chairman tom wheeler announced that he will not appeal the reason court ruling struck down net neutrality instead the commission will attempt to regulate internet providers on a case by case basis in addition the obama administration announced tuesday that the president cannot order the f.c.c. to reclassify internet providers as so-called common carriers overall it appears that the president and the f.c.c. are siding with giant corporations rather than with the millions of americans who demand a free and open internet standard he was struck down last month there have been numerous reports of internet traffic been slowed down by carriers in a blatant attempt to extort more money from content providers like netflix to make
7:46 pm
matters worse comcast also announced a merger with time warner which would give that carrier carrier even more extreme power to create a pay for play internet instead of protecting our right to freely exchange ideas and information on the web our government appears ready to allow corporate control of the internet and the creation of another functional monopoly apparently more than a million people speaking out against the recent net neutrality ruling wasn't enough to wake up government officials we have to keep this movement growing and. keep demanding that our internet freedom is protected. free press. is thursday let's get geeky if the food doesn't get you the packaging might at
7:47 pm
least that's one of the takeaways from a new report released by one some of the world's top scientists in a piece published in the journal of epidemiology and community health a group of scientists talks about the use of cancer causing substances like formaldehyde in the packaging of foods drinks and dinner or products or in the report there are over four thousand chemicals used in food food and food product packaging that we can potentially come in contact with formaldehyde in particular is a known human carcinogen and. it also specifically can cause sinus cat cancer and leukemia according to the scientists formaldehyde can be absorbed by drinks can attach to the food it can wreak havoc with the human body the report states that food contact materials are a significant source of chemical food contamination of illegally they are not considered as contaminants as a result humans consuming packaged or processed foods are chronically exposed to
7:48 pm
synthetic chemicals at low levels throughout their lives including the most sensitive periods of development in other words our kids are getting. the scientists also believe that there may be a link between the chemicals in food packaging and a variety of other health issues including obesity diabetes and even neurological conditions all these findings are pretty startling a lot more research has to be done to figure out exactly what the long term impacts are of exposure to formaldehyde and other chemicals in food packaging but to make matters worse formaldehyde is legal in the united states to use in food packaging and is found in some foods as a consequence of that so it might be time to start avoiding those processed foods altogether because not only is the food on healthy but it looks like the packaging is to. just.

board of education isn't such a big fan of education in fact in a conservative voters guide obtained by t.f.s. on said that she strongly disagrees that it is the government's responsibility to be sure children are properly educated in other words doesn't believe in the position she's running for. you know what they say only in texas and a very very ugly mcdonald's and only in new york branch of the fast food chain is under fire today over allegations that have fired an employee for buying a group of firefighters lunch employee had to lybia had already bought lunch for a group of firefighters earlier on in the day when another fire department called and asked for a big seventy dollar order that is says that the decision pay for that second department order is what got her in trouble managed. so heather texted her boss to see if the cop. but he would pick up the tab for the firefighters she thought they might because she says they routinely give free meals to police officers who come
7:51 pm
in it's very common her boss said no they don't donate food heather called the corporate office and got the same answer so she and fellow workers again picked up the tab and when word spread that heather paid the bill some firefighters called her boss and complained thinking the restaurant made heather feel obligated to pay for their meals she thought you open the whole being at her next shift after eight years of working for mcdonald's heather was fired she says as a fired heather because she swore at a superior that had been united's it's allegations if this story is true mcdonald's did fire her for buying lunch for firefighters let's hear it for.

the michael dunn trial has all that proven that it's legal in a red stand your ground should first states for a white man to kill a black man simply because he's afraid of black people and just a few months ago the supreme court said there's no longer any significant racial discrimination or animosity to america and its ruling on the voting rights act. so with that in mind. let's take a look at how things really are american city when it comes to racial equality in response to the jordan davis case in the trayvon martin case the folks over at color of change dot org of launched a new campaign titled black lives matter they're calling on americans to take action to help prevent the loss of another trayvon or jordan they say join us to bring an end to stand your ground and other shoot first laws that undermine public safety senseless that put people at risk and enable the kind of tragedy witnessed in the case of jordan davis' one main goal of the campaign is to convince white
