all the beggars to jamie diamond to lloyd blankfein to bob diamond put them into a circular firing squad and give them all bullets and let's get rid of all laws we got to turn to the system of this cancer of the marital tragedies of the world. breaking news from eastern ukraine a malaysian airline jet has crashed both sides of the ukraine conflict deny responsibility so what happened we have extensive breaking news coverage starting now. it's thursday july seventeenth four pm in washington d.c. i'm lindsey france you're watching our team america a malaysian airlines passenger jet carrying two hundred ninety five people has crashed in eastern ukraine both ukraine government and to keep separatists deny responsibility for downing the aircraft flight m.h.

seventeen was heading from amsterdam to kuala lumpur today when it went down in the village of gravel about twenty five miles from the russia ukraine border malaysian airlines confirmed it lost contact with a bow and boeing seven seventy seven which was carrying two hundred eighty passengers and fifteen crew members amateur video from the scene shows plumes of smoke and debris from the plane ukraine's military intelligence agency claims it intercepted phone calls on the ground between those responsible for shooting down the plane it's now up to investigators to figure out who could be responsible if this plane was indeed shot down artie's peter all there has been following the story and joins us now. peter given the political nature on the ground in ukraine the accusations the plane was shot out of the sky with heavy weaponry the array of countries these victims come from who is going to be investigating the situation. well that's going to become clear over the coming hours and perhaps days who's
4:02 pm
going to be involved in the the real forensic investigation into what happened here now we have seen offers of support come from moscow it's also been offers from i believe here in europe from the netherlands the british government has also said that it would be looking towards trying to help there as well as the united states states which is volunteered its services to the authorities in kiev who are wanting to try and get in an investigation under way also the leadership in malaysia the prime minister of malaysia has said he wants to see an investigation immediately basically what we could end up seeing is an awful lot of different national different nationalities different organizations involved ultimately in the investigation but then what it begs the question is will they be able to work together what we're hearing from some sources at the moment is that the first people who are on the ground and members of the defense forces that are trying to
4:03 pm
to bear and are opposed to the current government in kiev now we are hearing some reports that from the kiev side that they aren't being allowed access to the crash site because there are armed people surrounding it now the black boxes if they are recovered any time soon we understand they may well be they could be the key to telling us exactly what went on here. well this situation at the net it broke it has changed moment by moment breakdown for us how this all unfolded today. well this flight was flying from a very regular route between two major international hubs from amsterdam ship all over to kuala lumpur malaysia as it was flying across ukraine in air space the malaysian airlines. official the statement said they lost contact with their
4:04 pm
flight then we started to see pictures coming through some really dramatic pictures that came through of this plane that went down and some frankly terrifying the gruesome images from the the scene there we then heard from the ukrainian side from kiev that they were that this plane and b. that this plane had been shot down by rebels in the east of the country now the rebels the self-defense units they call themselves. immediately said no this wasn't the their work that this was the work of either a ukrainian army jet or a ukrainian army on t. aircraft installation on the ground so you've got both sides denying any involvement and pointing fingers towards the other. we've also seen. an immediate international outpouring of of of sadness over this incident because it does involve people from all over the world we're hearing that there may be up to as
4:05 pm
many as twenty three americans that were on board the plane perhaps as many as seventy one dutch nationals that's what's being reported here on german television at the moment the french foreign minister said four of his citizens he understood at least four were on the plane and as many as perhaps nine british citizens it's affecting people from all over the world we heard lie to me of putin the russian president put in a phone call to barack obama we also heard him to addressing me malaysian president to express his condolences for this so this is what we're seeing at the moment just real everybody and every world leader that we've heard is really been saying. after they express their condolences we need to find out what's going on there's still so many unanswered questions at the moment about just what happened as i say we've got finger pointing from the the self-defense forces in the east of the country towards kiev and point finger pointing from kiev towards those self-defense forces
4:06 pm
with both sides denying any any responsibility for this this real tragedy well of course and it's no surprise either is it that there is massive amounts of finger pointing going on this is a massive hot spot in the world right now and a jet packed with nearly three hundred people has gone down right in the center of it now let's focus on the most the most important part of this the passengers when can we possibly expect the release of a passenger manifest any list of who was on this plane and what nationalities were on this flight. right well it's worth noting that although this is a malaysian air waves flight airlines flight it is also a flight that was operated in conjunction with k l m i've been on the phone to the k l m offices trying to get a hold of them they are saying that they they need to they need more information before they'll be releasing any information about the names and nationalities however what we do have is the gruesome and i can't stress this enough some of it
4:07 pm
you will see on your t.v. stations and on your acceptable news websites but some of it has appeared on. blogging sites in ukraine and in other countries in russia as well of just a sea of devastation also a lot of passports that have been found there now a lot of dutch passports have been seen tragically for the families of those involved some of these photographs are actually showing the passport picture page so you can clearly identify who these people were there is we've seen from the french foreign minister say yes there was french nationals britain has yet to confirm whether those british nationals there but i'm pretty confident i've recognized british passports in amongst the piles that we've seen and also just recently saw a picture that clearly seems to show an australian passport in there amongst many malaysians that were on board and as they say it seems around twenty three you know citizens of the united states as well that were on that flight by the end of it
4:08 pm
when we find out exactly who was on board this plane it does seem like it's going to be all encompassing around the world these two airports are huge hubs huge huge hubs for international air travel it was a packed flight and it seems it's affected and it's going to continue to affect people in nations all over the world absolutely in what a devastating way indeed for their loved ones to find out that they just lost someone they care about and they're classically on t.v. artist peter oliver from berlin thank you very much. we want to get more info on this deadly plane crash now our to correspond to go is near the russian ukraine border just where the flight went down she filed this report with us just a short time ago. we do know at this point according to the latest information coming from the self-proclaimed people's republic is that. they have recovered at least eight of the twelve data flight data recorders that were on board with
4:09 pm
perhaps the most important bit of information they can provide right now is the fact that the prime minister visited the region that's what he says republic has said that. are ready to declare truce with key of four to three days in order to ease the process of investigation and in fact an official in the situation has already been launched by kiev officials and there's also information coming in that the e.u. officials have already started demanding that an international investigation into the crash of malaysian air. airlines flight m.h. seventeen also a beginning now of course we're talking about a great tragedy what were almost three hundred people have perished and i would like to remind our viewers that at least eighty of those are reported to be children so obviously a great tragedy international tragedy because there are also reports saying that.
4:10 pm
nationals. from tens of european countries of war on board we already know that there has been confirmed french citizens on board the plane obviously listed the grim list is obviously going to get just longer and of course we're watching exactly what how it's going to develop of course we also heard from the ministries of emergency russian ministry who are saying that they are ready to assist in an investigation they actually have already filed a special a special request to keep authorities in order to do so that was our correspondent in your the russian ukraine border where the flight went down so ahead here on r t the white house and state department are working to see if any americans were on board the jet that crashed in east. crain an update from the white house when we come back. i marinate in the financial world. to see these developments i mean i'm starting to see the facts only take it in the
4:11 pm
bank it's ready not going to get any economic but it's new life there are. stars listen. to the finish line of the marathon. last. night. as the world is watching for developments from ukraine president obama on a planned trip to delaware address the issue today artie's america david is at the white house for us with more on this and mirror what did the president have to say today. president obama was not at the white house today as you mentioned he was on the road in wilmington delaware to give
4:12 pm
a speech about infrastructure but he did touch on the issue at the beginning of his speech but take a listen to what he had to say. obviously the world is watching reports of a downed passenger jet near the russia ukraine border. and it looks like it may be a terrible tragedy right now we're working term and whether there were american citizens on board. that is our first priority and i've directed my national security team to stay in close contact with the ukrainian government. and the united states will offer any assistance we can to help determine what happened and why. as a country our. thoughts and prayers are with all the families of the passengers wherever they call. we did also hear from jen psaki spokeswoman at the state department she was asked again about the american casualties on board this flight and here's what she had to say. we've seen the
4:13 pm
public reports i spoke to our team right before i came out here we don't have any additional details at this point on american citizens we're looking to of course obtain that information as soon as we have it available will make it available to all of you. for ports are coming out from a number of outlets saying that hundreds of bodies are being recovered from the site of this crash are likely to be a mix of people representing a whole host of countries and how we don't know at this point whether the majority are european our agent or our people on board from the united states at this point we just don't have enough information we don't have the passenger manifest which is what we need to see to determine how many american citizens are of course on board this plane. whether stand earlier today president obama spoke with russian president vladimir putin over the phone what did they discuss. of course they did speak on the phone earlier this morning right before the reports of this really
4:14 pm
hit the masses of people the phone call was interesting at russia's request in that call president obama and president putin spoke about the general situation in ukraine they spoke about that at length they also talked at length about the sanctions of course as you know lindsey that were imposed just yesterday saying targeting russian individuals and russian companies companies in the energy and defense sectors at the end of the call who in did mention the early reports of the jet going down but further details of course did not have at that time we also know that vice president biden has been on the phone today with ukrainian president petro poroshenko they've had several phone calls several back and forth discussions about what's happened likely talking about the detail in advance who may have done this and what the u.s. can really do to help the ukrainian investigation going forward. right artie's amir
4:15 pm
a david from the white house thank you for joining us. obviously many questions around the crash of malaysian airlines flight m.h. seven hundred twenty five miles from the russian ukraine border to help us navigate our way through the aviation information that's emerging i was joined earlier by aviation expert captain rick take i first asked him about international protocol when it comes to planes flying over conflict zones here's what he had to say. the restrictions as far as the u.s. goes you want to share liners they're not flying over the ukrainian airspace nor the foreigner over iraq or syria now iran and they do fly over. but to do so you need to have a country wide over code and that is printed on your flight plans that a company. gives out to the pilots before the flight and each of those codes are on there and they've already been submitted via that country therefore the pirates
4:16 pm
would even have to say anything as far as to transit that area obviously this is a very busy flight corridor for a lot of international flights going to vacation hotspots like bali southeast asia and things like that some people have have talked about flying through the weather in this region for some reason even if there were airspace restrictions for the sake of the passengers would they then reroute to fly through a dangerous territory if if they needed just in the interest of maybe turbulence or just passenger safety. you know that you would find another route if they were told not to transfer that area they would not do it ok that's pretty straightforward now what would this plane be communicating with them flying over ukraine are there language issues involved i mean it's it seems obvious that air traffic control in ukraine might be guiding this flight through is that is that right has got their eyes on this plane. well the russian government the ukrainian government and
4:17 pm
you cross that for which is the boundary between the two countries. which are there and i saw a russia quite a few times and they have you know their controller speak pretty pretty good english but i mean obviously there is a barrier well before we even get to to anything like that obviously there are a lot of fingers being pointed politically in this situation but it really comes down to the investigators trying to pinpoint the exact cause of this what is a typical investigator focusing on right now we've all heard about the black box but in this case what piece of evidence to investigators really need to start to solve this mystery first they're going to have to find a way to enter a war zone that went down to the east side of ukraine which is right up to that russian border and i'm sure all the fighting stay but that's going to be a conflict just there trying to get into that airspace get into that which is the
4:18 pm
wreckage with that conflict taking place but they're going to look at how the wreckage is strong about the area and that way they can tell whether it was taken down with a missile or with a mechanical issue or whatever it is back alleys and what kind of missile to get down once they do get to the wreckage ok so they can pinpoint things pretty carefully there now obviously when these these crashes happen it seems that a country in which the crash occurred would usually take until the sighting you know all of the caught in the conflict area as you said the international body investigating this would would then perhaps take over this investigation or would you know what the protocols are in a situation like this where if it's a criminal act that they need to bring in another sort of jurisdiction. i'm not completely sure on how they're going to address this issue because they claim to go
4:19 pm
down in the ukraine i mean if somebody did fire a missile which country fired the missile now the ukraine must have some kind of a civil aviation. organization that would have this particular crash you have to realize a three airplane crash or three airplane shot down over there in the last couple of months. they've been quite busy so somebody is working at that problem ok well we're hearing from malaysian airlines they lost contact with the flight what does this mean exactly does that mean the radio contact was lost or they just dropped off the radar would they give that same response at the radar. or radio contact was lost on impact in flight was an indication to someone at an airline that the contact was lost and how well the lazy airlines saying they lost contact with the flight company so that means
4:20 pm
a. report that they may or a card system on the aircraft wasn't producing messages back and forth or a position report was not made and there has been some discussion they've lost radio contact for flying from one one country to another without radio contact can definitely be a problem especially in a war zone so based on what you've seen so far that's obviously right now there's a video all over the internet all over all of the news networks right now does anything stand out as peculiar what we've heard so far about this accident or seen on video. you know i just right before this interview i was able to see he said video on c.n.n. and it showed a. crash and their point is across a very large area therefore i would have to say something. wasn't right carol issue
4:21 pm
so you're saying something that not something that would have happened on board but something outside of the aircraft would have had to interfere with that. you know just from the looks of the wreckage i would it i would venture a guess that a missile what it's called here. ok will definitely be keeping a very close eye on this issue and will be coming back to you when we have further questions on the technicalities as this investigation goes through captain rick dake an air consulting expert thank you very much thank you very much our coverage of the malaysian jet crash continues online get updates at r.t. dot com you can also follow us on twitter and facebook for the latest on the breaking story and keep an eye on the ticker at the bottom of your screen for any breaking developments. so led here on our t. military strikes in gaza have claimed the lives of many civilians some of the most recent deaths even include more children more on that after the break.

proving effective at clearing gaza of civilians but families saying there's nowhere for them to evacuate to artists harry fear is in gaza for us i caught up last night with the full families affected these four families all from the extended back a family we spoke to they were of course absolutely destroyed by the events it was a devastating exercise to speak to them going to that i'm going over i want to do that without the ready to jump the gun also looked a little bit about this lady did that of the if. the goal of the part. of the of the they of course invoked the fact that these were innocent children simply playing on the beach but of course they were not responsible for any belligerent activities we saw tons even hundreds of family members. congregated in sympathy and solidarity morning with the parents of the of the of the lost children this story

has even really hit and the international journalists here directly witnessed the incident some of them actually tried to give stayed they were having bad lunch at the time many of them in these hotels overlooking we watched with marina on the mediterranean coastline i reported the emergence of a light on the on the on the horizon followed by shelling which targeted a small structure on gaza's marina this was then followed by another shelling tens of meters away absolutely close to where the palestinian boys were running away from the site of the shelling they also caught up with one of the eyewitnesses the manager and receptionist of one of those hotels overlooking gaza's seaport they was running you know skaven for all of them was. injured one of them his face was full of blood and his leg and his arm you know so then i called the ambulance
4:26 pm
to pick up them it's not clear why israel may have targeted this area during the day it is understood to be at night used by palestinian militants but not during the day and we will keep you updated. as artie's harry fear has violence continues to unfold the senate appropriations defense subcommittee has approved nearly five hundred fifty billion dollar defense dollars in spending which would include six hundred twenty one million for israeli missile defense programs of this three hundred fifty one million would be for the israeli iron dome system which intercepts short range rockets and mortars the system which has been credited with preventing israeli deaths in the latest hostilities was financed in part by hundreds of millions of dollars from the u.s. the bill would need to be approved now by the full senate then reconciled with a similar bill in the house of representatives before being signed into law by the president. but own boss is coming up next here on r t aaron eight joins us now for
