lugansk largely unnoticed. you're watching from in the world welcome to moscow onto r.t. international i mean o'neill. our top story malaysia airlines say stuff before the disaster the plane had dropped to a lower than planned altitude following a request from ukrainian flight controllers teams are still combing through the wreckage searching for bodies and clues to the causes of thursday's crash we should warn you there are some graphic images coming up. so far around half of the bodies have been retrieved from the widely scattered debris through up to eighty children among the dead the monitors from the organization for european security and cooperation have arrived on the scene we managed to speak to a local woman living right next to the crash site he's lucia

a little i heard terrible noise i went out first and then my husband well the woman fell to the ground right after i ran out at first my husband thought it was me i was in shock i couldn't go further than my yard. was take a closer look after the actual route that m h one seven the flight was taking it took off and. on the long haul journey to kuala lumpur the boeing seven seventy seven was flying over eastern ukraine there's zone of an ongoing conflict between the ukrainian army and local militia groups the plane disappeared from radar shortly before it was due to enter russian space. here's a list of the nationalities of those on board the ill fated aircraft the majority of the passengers one hundred eighty nine were dutch forty four victims including all crew members were malaysian there were also twenty seven australians travelling on the earth nine are among the victims were citizens of britain germany the

philippines indonesia and the u.s. . these are pictures from kuala lumpur international where the flight's destination the families so prosecutors and crew gathered there to try and find out what happened to their loved ones some lashed out at the your car you're demanding it release the passenger manifest and of course it's also a time of grieving in the netherlands from where the plane took off or who reports from amsterdam. even though it's looks like business as usual back to normal at amsterdam airport there is a very solemn mood in the end now malaysian airlines have said that they are providing financial support to him psychological assistance to the victims' families they've said that they are willing to fly any victims' relatives to ukraine to be closer to the scene of the crash and to the investigation now the european boasts of the airline has defended m.h.

seventeen's flight path over eastern ukraine saying that the flight to the flight path was declared safe and that other international airlines were using it until this tragic tragic incident but other details a slowly emerging we know that a dutch politician had such member of parliament was on board the flight with his family as well as a number of australians and delegates headed towards an international eight summit in melbourne but of course the majority of the victims' families. they are based here in the airport where the ill fated flight took off from being kept. well away from the press you can imagine how difficult a time it has for them now but we know that they are waiting for news about what happened to their loved ones and more importantly why. to a language a prominent h.i.v. researcher was on the plane with his wife heading for
3:05 pm
a global aids conference he was one of dozens of delegates thought to have been traveling their language friend the president of the anti aids fund a sion shared his feelings up a loss i feel stunned it's very unreal i think the moment i will see something more tangible it will hit but it's you know i talked to them yesterday morning before they boarded the plane in was saying that she was very much looking forward to going to the aids conference in melbourne and then she even sent me a text message on the plane in the asian airlines saying that they had just given down the menu card even before takeoff and that she was already looking forward to eating the nice asian food. darty spanish correspondent francisco managed to get to the scene within hours of the catastrophe some viewers may find the images in his report disturbing in twelve kilometers around here there is still pieces of the bodies there are also this is off the aircraft and
3:06 pm
a lot of details of their lives of these almost three hundred people right now the local government of the don't ask is saying that they agree to make a cease fire for some days that they can do an investigation and here they can calm they said they always see and also the international civil aviation organization on this situation in this moment is that in around some kilometers we have heard some grad rockets this means that the combat is still going on russia's defense ministry says that the activity of the ukrainian military radars on the day of the crash it's an exchange took place between military officials concerning ur targets president bush says the rebels during the plane with a rocket with the anti-government fighters say they have no weapons capable of this are blaming the ukrainian forces meanwhile russia is calling for a thorough investigation or can offer us more on moscow's reaction. well moscow is
3:07 pm
calling on both sides for an immediate seeing cease fire in order for a thorough and objective investigation to be held and according to president clinton this investigation and everything that's happening there now especially the cease fire should definitely be one of the top priorities especially for the authorities in kiev. we have to do everything in our capability to make sure an objective picture of what happened is made public and known to people in our country as well as the people of ukraine in the whole world what happened is completely unacceptable and no one has the right to walk away without making a conclusion of what happened first. i want to point out that this tragedy wouldn't have happened if there was peace on the ukrainian land we've also heard from russia's diplomats who reminded that throughout the violence in eastern ukraine that have been a few cases now when russian territory was attacked from across the border and the minister says that if this continues in the future then there is
3:08 pm
a possibility of that russia may have to react to this. a little booklet which if you crane continues to shell russian territory almost has the ability to retaliate against the area where the firing is coming from so far according to our estimates these shellings as a result of nonprofessional as those working their accidents that occur during wartime officials here in moscow are also saying that this tragedy with the malaysian plane will have to change their policy of supporting. military operations in the country there are plenty of on explain details surrounding the flight from amsterdam to kuala lumpur to sum up the plane diverge from its usual flight path secondly it passed directly over a war zone and finally according to the airline ukrainian traffic controllers requested that the plane reduce its altitude the reasons for that remain unclear we asked former pilot an air traffic controller desmond ross to give us his view point
3:09 pm
. the first one is the cockpit voice recorder which records the last two hours of all communications and all conversations in the cockpit so that that two hours leading up to the final moments should give us a fairly good indication of what was going on and that may even tell us that us knew nothing about it whatsoever that it just happened frankly there's a couple of things that are a little bit curious about the images that i've been seeing on television when the aircraft was hit and it would have depressurized more or less a mediately if there was a large hole blown in the fuselage or a compact a fuse like scott hogan a sudden decompression of that nature would have been quite calamitous but people who had very few seconds of consciousness and be sure they passed out and they would have fallen obviously great distance to the ground and so interesting in that they might be quite intact one would expect that might be showing some signs of damage you know the other thing that i found really interesting it is the collection of power sports that are being shown on television which will appear to
3:10 pm
be very train and almost brand new. and they've been collected obviously very quickly you know or from pockets of should cases perhaps so there are some interesting aspects to the whole thing with who will i'm going to become i.o.c. investigation is conducted professionally and probably. not barak obama claims the u.s. has firm evidence that the plane was shot down by a missile fired from an area controlled by anti kiev fighters he also accuses russia of supporting them you can follow the president's speech in washington d.c. . president obama said the missile was shot from the territory controlled by separatists in eastern ukraine he pointed at russia saying a group of rebels could shoot down an airline without training and sophisticated equipment from russia evidence indicates that the plane was shot down by a surface to air missile that was launched from an area that is controlled by russian backed separatists inside of ukraine moreover we know that these separatists have received
3:11 pm
a steady flow of support from russia. this includes arms and training. it includes heavy weapons and it includes anti-aircraft weapons but having said this he also added we don't know exactly what happened he called for an investigation by an international team and that's something that all members of the un security council are calling for including russia but before any investigation has been carried out the media of course are quick to pick up all kinds of speculations major t.v. channels here in the u.s. are running a tape that the ukrainian intelligence services provided they say one part of the conversation is between a rebel leader and a russian intelligence officer and the other part of a conversation between two men on the ukrainian intelligence identifies as major and grandpa in that conversation we hear one man describing to another in an apparent truck that a passenger plane has crashed and there's no way to upload to verify who this major
3:12 pm
is or who greg is other than to take key word for it there are also questions as to how these two different conversations are linked to questions whether the timing that the ukrainian intelligence provided is correct whether these men on tape are who key of claims they are caves in no way an impartial party in this conflict or t's video service ruptly has traveled to the place mentioned in the video that the ukrainian intelligence service provided very shortly after the video surfaced in the place where kiev says the missile was launched form and they found no traces of any military activity but the blame game is also about who created the situation for this tragedy to happen us to social could all responsibility on russia because they say it has supported the rebels russia on its part says kiev is responsible because it launched this military operation ac ukraine we heard the russian envoy to the u.n. speak he said the u.s. supported kiev's military operation and is therefore also part partly responsible
3:13 pm
at this point we have this bitter vicious back and forth between everyone involved and not involved. major air carriers have announced they're diverting their planes around eastern ukrainian airspace and among them are air france tons of europe's transport agency euro control has advised all e.u. carriers to avoid the area and following the tragedy e.u. leaders have been expressing their condolences to those affected parties peter all of our takes up the story. we heard from german chancellor angela merkel she was given a press conference in which she said there needs to be a full investigation into exactly what caused this disaster she said that germany was willing to send a team to ukraine to help with that investigation to get to the bottom of exactly what happened and she said that those that are responsible must be brought to justice should also express extreme crieff and condolences for the
3:14 pm
families of the those that have been killed for germans were among those that have been on board this plane and she expressed particular condo in france to the people of the netherlands who of course were worst affected by this disaster but she's not the only. european leader that's been speaking about this david cameron the british prime minister of course nine britons on that flight as well he also said that he'd spoken to the dutch prime minister. expressed his condolences and saying that europe and britain all grieve together with with the people of the netherlands as europe deals with what is a real tragedy not just for europe but for people around the world when we see the nations that all those people came from that have been killed. despite international calls for a ceasefire the ukrainian army is continuing with its heavy shelling of ganske which is one of the focal points of the anti-government resistance in the scifi
3:15 pm
east early reports suggest as many as twenty civilians have been killed as a result. of ports from the russia ukraine border doesn't seem like there is any end in sight when it comes to violence in lugansk a military airplane belonging to be an air force it has delivered yet another hit on the city earlier on friday now we know that they have damaged several of residential buildings at least twenty forty to various reports of damage. by this point people are saying that they're left without water and they are being instructed not to leave their homes and this is something that has been happening over time for quite a while according to the race that we have you see people coming literally from down into the neighboring region which is located on the territory of russia. and the recent deaths the crush of the latest developments in the months long conflict that's been plaguing so i think the east ukraine other tragic milestones include
3:16 pm
the mosque or in a death in early may when forty two government protesters were slaughtered a week later seven people were killed when kiev launched a ground offensive in the city of mariupol in the midst of victory day celebrations a military strike on lugansk city center in early june killed eight civilians and wounded many others that was a day before a hospital in crustiness in the dinette screeching came on the shelling by kiev forces claiming ten lives just over two weeks ago the army shelled a small village. killing twelve civilians including a five year old child since the so-called antiterrorist operation was launched by kiev and april the civilian death toll has reached two hundred fifty seven according to the un special commission in ukraine. now if the passenger jet was shot done there are only a limited number of weapons in the region that could have been responsible one possibility is the surface to air missile system several former soviet countries
3:17 pm
use the weapon including ukraine it has the ability to hit up to twenty four targets up the same time within a distance of forty five kilometers and reaching an altitude of twenty five kilometers its missiles travel at up to twelve hundred meters per second but as yet there is no confirmation that this weapon system was the cause of the crash ok let's try and bring in former u.k. army officer charged hsu bridge mr shubrick. missile system is believed to have been used to die in the plane doesn't seem likely to you that this is the case. well it certainly would be a plausible explanation for the airline a falling out of the sky but we must remember that sadly it's a fact of life the airline is due of their own volition and for a very great number of reasons drop out of the sky and of course malaysian airline it's airlines is one of the most recently and tragically aware of that having said that the ukraine government has released what it claims are
3:18 pm
a number of evidence your leads for example it is said that. intercepted communications it says between people on the ground suggested that we have those who are firing or have fired or weapons and also ukraine government has in the past said that the rebels have these weapon systems i should point out that of course the ukraine government claims i was yet cooperated in respect to these intercepted transmissions and also of course the prosecutor general himself my mind is timing it is today reported from ukraine to have the knowledge that it's another system so it's fair to say there's a lot of confusion at the moment and really this really points the way to the importance of a thoroughly independent. investigation to uncover all of the leads in this case to establish first of all whether the plane was shot down and secondly which party may have been responsible well that's what i want to continue with because is it possible to establish with any certainty where the missile came from to clarify
3:19 pm
whether it was launched by the army or opposition militia. in the outset with some investigation of ground from which it was launched and of course that would give an indication even though it's accepted i think. much of east ukraine is in a fluid situation in terms of who controls what any given time but certainly radar tracking looking at their records of not looking out again as you kind of claims it is already done looking at transmissions from parties on the ground and indeed that may be satellite evidence that parties such as the united states or even perhaps drone evidence other parties might have. for example russia my it's have itself some evidence as to where the launch took place but again none of this is publicly available at the moment anything suggesting to the country i think it's speculation it's also true of course that forensic analysis of the wreckage may indeed identify traces of explosives such as might have been used in an weapons system of this type
3:20 pm
and even perhaps if. a collision between for example an aircraft and an answer missile took place there may be remains to be found of the missile itself which may yield information such as serial numbers and so on as to the origins of it and indeed that may explain in whose hands that missile system was but i would emphasize that these kind of investigations take a very long time to very painstaking they have to be independent and to be seen as such and really the results of such intervention investigations typically made available within days usually it's of course a period of months charles shoot bridge former british army officer thanks for your expertise this hour. well ukraine's army does have some history of shooting done civilian planes back in two thousand and want to fake the mistake during a military exercise and dozens of lives in a russian plane was carrying sixty six passengers and twelve crew members of those
3:21 pm
flying from tel aviv to the russian city of novosibirsk contact was lost with the jets above the black sea international investigators acknowledged the tragedy was ukraine's fault kiev however denied the allegations. the website has gathered information on all the previous cases where civilian aircraft were dawn by weapons head to our teeth dot com to see where and when they occurred. or let's move on to our other top story here on r.t. israel is widening its ground offensive in gaza and one of its soldiers has been killed the first israeli military fatality in this latest campaign which kicked off late on thursday the operation has also led to palestinian casualties but. look at that who.
3:22 pm
knows a little very well out of the. blue . these images show they bodies of three children who were reportedly had by artillery fire they were among more than twenty palestinians who have died since this crime and operation started taking its toll. early on friday after hours of heavy bombardments rained down across gaza with locals reporting tanks crossing the border is really warplanes of both reportedly struck a building housing several media offices rockets are still being fired into israel by militants and israel says its ground troops are trying to. strongly its initial target the tunnels being used by hamas to infiltrate the country fear is only used more first. while the streets of gaza remain empty throughout this morning after
3:23 pm
the sun rose people here fear that this ground incursions will continue in the coming days people here do fear that the israeli ground invasion could step up. its operations into a new level which could be much more costly for the population of gaza including the civilian population but we decided to go to the hospital where we spoke to a hamas spokesperson and questioned him on this recent escalation. both your reaction to the israeli ground invasion of the gaza strip with different people depending on your doctor all of these. committed by the police i get. into this to get our own water because finally i want to be able to be able to do the groups here have the capacity to actually deal with his writing ground invasion we already. know i don't want. the world going to go home. ok thank you very much for the time thank you ok thanks so
3:24 pm
that was. the position israel's ground invasion. is going to civilian casualties in large numbers to use that does have the capacity to defend the palestinian population here from an israeli ground invasion. i spoke with a lama stein deputy spokesperson of the israeli foreign ministry i asked her how a tentative ceasefire agreement turned into an all out ground offensive egyptians initiated a ceasefire and we respected it and we didn't shoot and guess what i'm shooting rockets at us and then there was a humanitarian ceasefire and we. wanted the people in gaza to receive medical help to receive food to receive all kinds of supplies they need and the hamas still kept firing at us since the is truly a military operation began two hundred seventy four palestinians have died many of
3:25 pm
them being civilians surely your government for saw this huge terrible human cost fortunately yes you have one side who wants violence more violence and more death and you have us who are asking them please let's stop it even though this is very risky for us they're firing on you because they think you're firing on them first we're looking at this huge loss of life it is clearly palestinians the pictures we've been showing and better spreading around the world by stepping up the operation aren't you simply pushing in this into a spiral of violence but who knows when it could end we don't want the violence but unfortunately this is the masses mission just more and more by ok when they weren't there that's fine and i just remember one thing the u.n. international law israel is obliged to protect civilians in the occupied territories doesn't this violate what you're doing the responsibility you have towards the palestinians yes we have a responsibility. to civilians in general and that's what we do before we attack we
3:26 pm
have flyers that saying that we're going to attack and this and sometimes we also abort missions you can look it up in our websites we we have pilots actually aborting missions because they're told that there are children nearby and even though the next day this can be mean that these places are going to launch missiles at us give us the news for novel we'll of course be bringing you more updates on the latest situation in eastern ukraine next hour indeed in gaza two until then it's our special report on fathers and civilians fleeing ukraine's diligence have been devastated by military or strikes. two u.s. agents who are working deep inside the german government have been caught which has heightened tensions between the two countries even more the german reaction to this was to expel the cia chief in berlin from his post this is the kind of story that
3:27 pm
makes people who hate u.s. foreign policy the share button on facebook and get all excited it makes me feel that merkel or at least some elements of the german government are actually fighting against foreign meddling but i would say that you should take this story with a huge grain of salt yeah they just had one cia asset out of the country and this could be a sign of change but there are still twenty plus u.s. military bases currently operating in germany and in fact the bomb holder base is one of the largest ones outside of america territory with thirteen thousand troops permanently stationed there so basically if merkel really wants to reduce foreign meddling in germany she's going to have to somehow get a massive foreign military presence out of a country and since this has been there for almost seventy years already i don't think that they're just going to pack up and leave on their own one day but that's just my opinion.
