the army closes in on the city of lugansk. welcome and thanks for joining us this hour my name is neil harvey you're watching r.t. international. investigators are combing through the wreckage of the malaysian airliner that crashed in east ukraine on thursday killing all two hundred ninety eight people on board alongside the debris of the plane lying there in mainz of passengers and their belongings the white ribbons you can see here mark the locations where bodies have been found but many who were on board remain unaccounted for. accompanied by representatives of the self-proclaimed nyet people's republic a team of international observers from the organization for security and

cooperation in europe have now arrived at my side they took pictures of the gruesome scene on friday. team. of multi investigating the calls for you also to speculate on it but what you're here for is to see what measures are closely to be made to the security. measures and what measures have been taken to do we've seen a human and most efficient way. international observers will continue their examination of the site later in the meantime kiev has accused anti-government forces of trying to destroy evidence reports from the scene of the crash we are now way past that twenty four hour mark that the bodies of the people that died at the crash malaysia airlines flight had been lying around here along with the burning debris you know the always see mission had already come here the spend about an
7:03 am
hour talking to people in scouring the area then they left so we couldn't get any information from them right away they were keeping mom about the whole thing but certainly the shock was definitely on their faces now it's not just this area that's been affected the debris had and along with the bodies had falling in an area around twelve kilometers here so this is going to be a lengthy lengthy process for identification and for investigation as well and right now i had to ask you to take a look at what we have seen here so far and how this tragedy had affected the people that live here in eastern ukraine. this woman was out working in her garden when her son sold her a body had fallen from the sky and broken through the roof of their house the badly mangled victim of the malaysian airlines flight has now been laying in in this kitchen for more than a day. at first i didn't notice anything but my son went out and said mom
7:04 am
there is a body in the kitchen there was a blast to everywhere i thought it was just a pile of rubbish but then i had this too that it was a human body without a leg and was arms twisted and broken it was a man who fell out of the play and through the roof it's a murder a real murder. my wife and i were having dinner when we heard a strange noise that sounded like clapping as soon as we went out of the house we saw a body lying nearby it must have fallen from a very high altitude the only thing left on the body was a t. shirt it was a man the legs were broken i saw practically no blood now you can smell the odor or be here there are no words to describe it here's my house and it all happened right here it's like i was watching t.v. i heard a roar looked into explosions i would know and saw spinning plane without a wing with something falling out of it the area where the plane crashed is near

several mines that sustain people economically in the done as krege and so it comes as no surprise that coal miners were some of the first on hand to help but the scene of the tragedy. i've lived here with my family my whole life here where the crash happened i've been working in this coal mine for forty years and now i just want to help that's all there are thirty people in our ship and just two of them went to work the others came here to help with these thought rudd says of the victims are going to be arriving here shortly and no doubt they will be seeking answers but it seems they could be in for a quite a wait to find out just how their loved ones were taken from them from on cost or of art see donetsk ukraine. well the majority of passengers on board the flight were dutch and people across the netherlands have been laying flowers and tributes many of the victims were holiday makers heading to the malaysian beaches or these
7:06 am
police reports from the grieving country. as travelers rush to catch their flights these floral tributes are the only visible reminder of the tragedy for victims' families the cool wait to find out who downed flight m.h. seventeen continues but away from the airport the heartbreaking stories are starting to emerge in the town of borden a school rocked by grief graduates of men kemah college robin hamill rick robert young vines it failed and his sister fred a reek were about to start the next chapter of their lives while two of the three students from this school that sadly perished on a mate's seventeen were in fact siblings a brother and a sister who were flying out to kuala lumpur with their grandparents who had gifted them a holiday to southeast asia for graduating from this school just several days ago everybody is together there's lots of crying everybody supporting one another you

don't see something like this coming i knew he was going on holiday to malaysia but you never expect something like this to happen instead of enjoying the first days of their summer holiday pupils and teachers are grieving it's unbelievable seeing something on the news is one thing but when it's about your own school it hits you i still don't understand it we're shell shocked the loss is terrible we've opened up the school so that the kids can come in and mourn together and so that the students that needs extra help can get professional trauma counseling. over announced today outside one of the city's bars we saw young men and women crying they were mourning the loss of their friends laurence van de graaff and his girlfriend collin kaiser who had planned to travel across malaysia. five last night i got a text and i woke up. and i saw it was gone you have this rollercoaster during rome
7:08 am
it's different emotions disbelieve shock anger sadness. if you were with amsterdam has a population of just around eight hundred thousand people everyone we've spoken to is in shock but because that list of dutch casualties was so high on m.h. seventeen most of the people we've spoken to say they know someone or know someone who knows someone who died on that plane well what i read earlier today it's the same ratio as nine eleven we've compared the death toll to the population so i think it's pretty impactful and while relatives and friends of victims digest the news of what's happened the flags are flying at half mast a symbol of a nation in mourning. for people. a team of malaysian experts has arrived in kiev to conduct an investigation into the plane crash there
7:09 am
demanding full access to the site let's talk to our like c.s.s. cues in malaysia now who's joined as i say what are the malaysian authorities calling for. well most of the relatives of the m.h. seventeen victims have already flown to ukraine to identify the bodies of their loved ones the team of investigators from malaysia also went to key of the transport minister of the country is flying there tonight he just spoke to us about the investigation about several irregularities the authorities have noted first of all the change of altitude they confirmed that the plane changed altitude from thirty five thousand feet to thirty three thousand feet he says this is a normal practice for the world but there is no explanation whatsoever why this time the air traffic controllers in ukraine told the plane to go lower and now the regularity is the destiny of the flight recorders because we've been hearing contradictory reports coming from kiev authorities that they either had the flight
7:10 am
recorders then they said they did not have them or the malaysian authorities confirm they have no information about the whereabouts of these flight recorders which of course would be instrumental for this investigation and last but not least they've also spoken that seventy five airlines flew for the same route just the day before. the crash but still the malaysian authorities were assured by the on ground air traffic control is that the route was deemed safe in fact they said that several other airlines were flying the same route within minutes after and before the crash of course a lot of questions remain and many doubts remain and they of the malaysian authorities hoping that many questions will become clear out once they get access to the crash site and be able to conduct the investigation and get saudis alexy reporting live from kuala lumpur international airport. the investigation is only just begun but the u.s. claims that it has further evidence the plane was shot down by a missile fired from an area controlled by and find his gun and shoot you can.
7:11 am
president obama said the missile was shot from the territory controlled by separatists in eastern ukraine evidence indicates that the plane was shot down by a surface to air missile that was launched from an area that is controlled by russian backed separatists inside of ukraine moreover we know that these separatists have received a steady flow of support from russia having said that he also added we don't know exactly what happened i think it's very important for us to make sure that. we don't get out ahead of the facts. and at this point in terms of identifying specifically what individual or group of individuals or a. personnel order that the strike. came about the u.s. president called for a credible international investigation and that is something all members of the u.n. security council are calling for including russia because nobody at this point knows
7:12 am
who shot the missile the blame game is about who created the ground for this tragedy to happen and here we see a clash of different views the u.s. says russia is responsible because it supported the rebels russia says key if it's responsible because it launched this military operation in eastern ukraine and the u.s. supported it at this point we have this back and forth between everyone involved and not involved. the mainstream media has picked up on the allegations coming from the u.s. and especially the ukrainian government which has blamed anti government separatists and claimed that they're being supported by moscow to back up these claims is an unverified tape released by the ukrainian security forces it purports to be an intercepted conversation between self-defense fighters men with thick ukrainian accent say that they have shot down a plane the authenticity of the recordings still hasn't been verified and kiev also
7:13 am
circulated this video the unconfirmed footage shows a surface to air system allegedly being driven across eastern ukraine with one of its missiles missing. with accusations being thrown in every direction moscow has suggested that kiev has some explaining to do. as more. russia wants to know why the ukrainian authorities believe that the country's anti-government forces shut down the airplane and while of the country's opposition doesn't happen a force why i keep have deployed surface to air missiles in the area and russia's also calling on ukraine to release its records of the military tracking from the day of the tragedy hand questions have also been raised over why allow the airliner to deviate from its course and fly over the battleground these are the crucial issues that russia's deputy defense minister believes key of should clarify for
7:14 am
a better understanding of what caused the tragedy i would like to express deep condolences to all people who are. who are in korea should go on to want to use this opportunity to blame anybody just for the like a few questions to my. colleagues from our forces of ukraine while the investigation continues the accusations have been thrown from every direction to every direction and every budget understand that it should be done very carefully otherwise consequences could be very dramatic but still we can see that there are more questions than on soz in this tragic story. now let's take a closer look at some of the questions that russia's defense ministry wants answers to such as why i make seventeen diverged from its usual flight path and then passed directly over a conflict zone finally getting to the airline ukrainian air traffic controllers
7:15 am
requested the plane drop its altitude the reasons for remain unclear. take a look at the area where any seventeen came down. this is the little town that we can see here grab of a that's where most of the debris has been found the plane came from the northwest that flew over almost the entire conflict so that includes two for the hot spot slavyansk and tosk now major ukrainian army outpost the crash site itself is almost directly between the regional capitals done yet and lugansk kiev and anti-government forces have engaged in some of the fiercest fighting over the airports there grubber itself just kilometers away from the border with russia that's been shelled by the ukrainian army on numerous occasions and earlier this week in the neighboring town of an air strike there destroyed a residential building eleven people killed ok we'll have more updates on ukraine

investigation into the tragic plane crash during a somber and yet contentious emergency meeting friday ambassador churkin said there are many unanswered questions such as why did the ukrainian aviation dispatchers send a plane flight into an area of military clashes and where were the anti-aircraft systems working ambassador churkin says the ukrainian government has not been showing military restraint as western countries have insisted moscow insists that heaves aggressive attacks and indiscriminate shelling of areas in eastern ukraine has led to more violence and clashes and this is why moscow insists that responsibility for the tragic plane crash lies with key. members of the british good we have repeatedly warned of grave dangers of solving ukraine's political crisis through the use of force we have been calling for respectful dialogue between the conflicting sides however at each stage kiev has chosen the wrong course and their western backers i'm speaking mainly of the united states have

pushed them to escalate the crisis and now when facing the catastrophic repercussions of this course of action they're trying to shift responsibility to russia. the u.s. ambassador to the u.n. samantha power says it's likely that a surface to air missile was used to down the malaysian airliner as a result she insists that the international community cannot rule out that russia trained or assisted the ukrainian separatists in shooting down the plane many western council members also said that rebels in eastern ukraine have shot down several planes in the area in recent days which establishes their record and capability of activity the ukraine ambassador to the u.n. told the council that he believes the separatists in the eastern part of his country are armed with two missile systems that would be capable of shooting down the malaysian airlines plane he insists his government has evidence to back up the claim the u.n. security council expressed its condolences to the families of the plane crash
