hiding the truth from us and i don't know why don't they have children on their own heard so much to know that the count's protect our children. this is r t international the top stories tonight from us kiev backtracks on its statement that its detained the russian reporter on charges of aiding terrorists under a study went missing in east ukraine a week ago. brussels bites back you know that russia has banned the food imports in response to sanctions european officials reportedly want to support moscow's plans to get alternative supplies latin american. gas and rubber bullets the u.s. police response to crowds demanding justice for the killing of an unarmed black teenager by a move to recall. and the little girl that survived eleven days in the siberian wilderness surrounded by wolves and bears all thanks to

a brave and safe. from moscow's art international with me kevin zero eight nine pm here in every could have you with us our top story the kids back tracked on its earlier statement that it had detained a russian photographer in ukraine understand he went missing in the country's east a week ago while his whereabouts remain unknown kiev is apparently struggling to get its story straight today ukraine's deputy interior minister had confirmed the journalists arrested originally by the country's security forces in an interview that he carried out with latvian radio station adding that the thirty three year old photographer had been charged with aiding terrorists however in an interview then with stand ins employee russia's ria novosti news agency apparently changed to
1:02 pm
choose saying this time that the arrest by the security services was merely a possibility in that he had no idea about what's really happened to the journalist so mixed messages there. well sterling's colleagues at ria novosti have been drawing public attention to his plight with online campaign free andrew they also organize a flash mob too and post the pictures which soon went viral the un has expressed to its hope that the real reporter will be found safe the new york based committee to protect journalists as well is calling for stebbins a media release there's also reaction from human rights watch stressing that whoever's holding andre has to free him as no charges have been pressed against him european security watchdog also insists he has to be released condemning the practice of arresting journalists let's go live now to london sheree alexander is there. xander let's get your thoughts on this has been listening and they are up to
1:03 pm
speed with their care of change that statement twice within a day why can't they keep their story straight what is the real picture here well my guess and of course we don't know for sure is that they are holding him they don't actually have any real charges to bring against him and the regime there does not have very tight control over its security forces so on the one hand they are very embarrassed because of all of this publicity that they're getting around the world about the fact that they're detaining and holding a russian journalist which is let us be quite clear completely outrageous and entirely wrong and at the same time there are major political problems i think about releasing him if only because if they do release him it will admit that they actually arrested him in the first place i was just saying it's embarrassing for ukraine we've heard just a moment ago a number of international organizations voicing out strong support for the release
1:04 pm
of understand him but he's not been released yet and you think it's because they're in a kind of catch twenty two here that's the reason the way boy it was not been set free of that. i mean that's my guess i mean i i pray and hope that it isn't anything more serious than that the problem is with a government. which is extremely chaotic and which can contains within itself some very disturbed and violent elements one can never be completely confident about anything but might my guess is that since we've had the same person who is a senior official the deputy interior minister no less making contradictory statements they know that they have him and they don't quite know what to do with him and that's really the problem and it's just a week or two ago reporting ukraine's now been labeled the most dangerous country in the world for journalists to do the job seven media workers have been killed this is a start of the crisis why we're hearing stronger words from europe to stop these atrocities to stamp it out. well. i think the reason we're not
1:05 pm
hearing stronger words in europe is because europe has invested so much political capital supporting this regime and if i may say so that we are not is absolutely wrong anybody who has followed what's been happening in the ukraine can see that there is definitely a policy of picking all russian journalists are not the only person who said that he and i think mr putin himself has said it but i mean the facts speak for themselves and eat is a dangerous place for journalists especially russian journalists and legal expert and blogger examine the curious things being on the line. brussels is planning to talk latin american countries out of boosting agricultural exports now to russia its according to the financial times citing senior e.u. officials nations such as brazil and chile were set to meet the short forward russian introduce that food and bargain want to range of european products in
1:06 pm
response to a huge sanctions more the story from our correspondent in berlin peter all of. well following russia's decision to ban the import of certain foodstuffs and agricultural produce from from europe as well as other countries in retaliation to the sanctions that were opposed the economic sanctions that were imposed on russia as we understand that brussels are going to try and contact some countries in central and south america in order to dissuade them from selling the blockaded the banned foodstuffs to russia at a decent price now what we're particularly looking at is countries like brazil and chile now brazil is already seen this is an opportunity it has long trading history with russia it's opened set to open air around one thousand meat processing plants it's expected that brazil will be the place that russia goes to to try and get its beef and pork also chile which is said to be the place it goes to for fish imports
1:07 pm
that it's no longer accepting from the european union now those farmers that are here in europe well they're saying that when washington and brussels came up with the sanctions against russia they weren't thinking about them and they didn't think about the consequences it could have when making a decision to impose sanctions on russia the e.u. should have realized that businesses will have problems with russia we'll let it go and we'll take responsive measures which we're paying right now we need access to the market it would help solve the deadlock situation in which for example the fruit sector is in elsewhere poland is preparing an appeal to the w t o the world trade organization against the sanctions imposed by russia they say that it infringes upon the rights of particular apples were huge import to russia from poland what they're saying is it goes against the rules russia says not in the slightest doesn't it fringe upon anything that suggests and it says that nobody was
1:08 pm
complaining to the w t o when state sanctions were imposed on russia so what we're seeing is these things to sanctions starting to bite and the people that they're impacting on the most of the farming business and the agricultural industry in europe. our correspondent there in berlin well robert oulds who's the head of the bruges group think tank told us he believes the latin america and latin american countries here won't bend though to the pressure from brussels these are his thoughts. while we it's time that the european union as well as perhaps even the united states stop dictating to other countries around the world argentina brazil chile it will be in their economic interest to expand their trade with russia is a very good opportunity for them to forge closer links with russia as well so really these countries will not bow to pressure other states and i will look to expand their links with russia just like china has recently done in terms of gas and oil supplies in other developments today moscow says it surprised by the

confusion about its humanitarian aid to east ukraine as all the details of the mission were coordinated with kiev earlier today ukraine said it's ready to accept the aid but not on russian trucks agreement was eventually reached those foreign minister sergei lavrov explains. on the ship. the movement of the convoy has begun we got to know confirming ukraine's readiness to receive this help on top of that's we took into account all the wishes of the ukrainian side regardless of the ration including the route that was chosen even though this means we have to take a large d. to us we are relying on the assurances given by the ukrainians they guarantee the security of the convoy during its movement through regions controlled by the country's army we also expect the same attitude from the self-defense forces the russian foreign ministry says that cargo is set to be handed over to the red cross at the border as agreed with the international organization and the ukrainian authorities a convoy of almost three hundred trucks carrying aid from russia is on its way to the russian train from here given moscow reached that initial agreement on the

mission on monday a week after officials in east ukraine advance declared a humanitarian disaster in the city. meanwhile back to kiev the parliament there is passed a raft of new laws allowing the country to impose sanctions against russia the new legislation allows ukraine to block and freeze all russian assets in the country kiev can now also ban all broadcasting of russian media and block all russian activity in ukraine's internet space on top of that all transit of russian goods and even of russian citizens through ukraine can also be blocked by kiev it's yet to decide though whether or not any of these measures will actually be implemented meanwhile in separate legislation also voted in today security personnel have been given the right to shoot without warning in the restive east. or the new laws already turned heads in europe with the o.s.c. saying it seriously endangers freedom of speech and goes against european principles of press liberty it wants the law revoked to be keeping up to date with

any developments on that on air and online. public rage in the u.s. state of missouri spilled over into a second night of clashes with police over the fatal shooting of the unarmed black teenager by a cop officers fired tear gas and rubber bullets of protesters who fear is about what they called police brutality and racial profiling unassisted is there for us. tensions chaos violence and really may have have been an unraveling on the streets here for these last couple of nights tear gas had been used. but. of course people have been coming out onto the street in the hundreds and thousands since the killing of an unarmed eighteen year
1:12 pm
old michael brown took place here the community is outraged because the young man had no weapon however he was fired at multiple times by a police officer and he died as a result of this people have been coming out onto the streets protesting violence has been erupting and most certainly we can get in front of our eyes to d.t.r. gas was fired at least twice and one of those times when the numbers of people in the street really had died down it was only just a couple dozen people who live in this neighborhood and of course we do not expect any of these tensions to die down because the locals that we've spoken to most certainly intend to continue coming out to protest in our region what happened and while we don't know exactly what our route will the police have been claiming that an altercation took place between my old michael brown and this police officer but many of the details remain a big mystery including the identity of this police officer who we know now is currently on leave and this is something that the local community wants. to change
1:13 pm
they want to see accountability happen to certainly police misconduct and police brutality has been a huge issue in this country throughout the last several years. but this is a call. slate's developments in missouri of course you can also follow on twitter for updates as they come on pictures from the city. stay with me to offer a short break ahead we look at how america's having to do all the rags could snow so that they can defend themselves and try to anyway against the jihadists are they using u.s. firepower. it's a real twist around with more than just after this break. i'm abby martin the stories we cover here are not going here in iraq other big story extra headlines and talk there's a reason they don't want international airport that we should leave now let's break the set. is the media leave us so we leave the media.

ongoing u.s. airstrikes on jihadists in iraq of not contained or broken the momentum of the militants according to the pentagon washington so far been reluctant to launch another ground invasion but is no beefing up the flow of weapons to the region u.s. officials say they're seeking to further determine the so-called islamic state by arming kurdish resistance fighters in northern iraq so far the only sending light weapons and ammunition but the kurds also want rocket launchers and tanks artie's gun if you can report some of the weapons being used by the jihadists were also made in america. thousands of iraqis are helpless in the face of terror from the islamic state the jihadi militants are ruthless and well armed they say hard us forces in iraq are probably the strongest the hardest forces in the region and in the world they are equipped with advanced american weapons and that's how they were able to ethnic cleansing minorities christian and it's the the minorities from many
1:16 pm
areas in kurdistan or south of go to stan and now they're attacking kurdistan u.s. officials see no alternative to sending weapons to combat the extremists who now fight with american weapons you cannot confront isis with flowers at the same time flooding an already deeply divided country with more weapons could backfire in the future if there is no american military solution. in iraq the only way. is for iraqis come together and form an inclusive government president obama may want a unified iraq but the kurds have long wanted out and arming kurdish militia forces could lead to a permanent breakup of iraq any peace will say see how the kurds of iraq would like to bring the region that hold. and multi-ethnic cities as well as major world for the both kurdish and tested here now it's pressing as the kurds depends so
1:17 pm
are the question is whether the weapons by the people today. in washington and baghdad are. every side of the conflict in iraq is now using american weapons let's take a closer look at how that happened for a second sure we were the u.s. military pulled out of the country in twenty eleven but as we know they left a deadly legacy more than nine billion dollars worth of weapons much of this american firepower was captured by islamic state fighters sweeping into northern iraq from syria where they hold already got a hold of u.s. weapons that washington had already supplied to those anti assad forces so now u.s. arms are being used on two sides of the barricades in iraq in america's obvious and more of its hardware american hardware to the kurds to help to repel the jihadists right now let's get some reaction to this school run a full circle from former u.s. foreign service employee peter van buren joined some of the other peter will talk
1:18 pm
about this big twist this big turn that these weapons are doing its american weapons fighting american weapons certainly in a minute but first of all mary half the u.s. state department's been speaking just in the last few minutes she had some to say about what she thinks is the cause of all this she's blaming syria in a sad listen. isis started really gaining strength in syria when a side a facilitated their rise helped facilitate their movement into iraq and gave them a security environment in which they could operate prime minister maliki has been fighting a very serious battle against him in his own country yes he could have governed more inclusively but that's very different than allowing a terrorist group to flourish and indeed supporting them. you say he facilitated that movement from syria through uk and we believe provide them with truck and transportation from town having more specifics for you than that so you don't think that the syrian regime was actually fighting myself and. look i know that they supported their rise and they helped facilitate them into iraq i know that. so to
1:19 pm
say we don't have more specifics they often have a go at it but what do you think about this theory this theory that it's been assad that's been. basically planting the seed for isis to grow in these my mixtape rather i think this just shows the desperation of the state department did in particular in the u.s. government in general to try to paint this picture as something other than america's mistakes lysis until very recently was part of a broad sunni group in syria that was being supplied by the united states and was and still is being funded by american allies in saudi and kuwait and other sunni states blaming assad for all this is absolutely beyond my understanding how it's an intelligent person can even say that in addition the united states who was opposing assad for release it really has gotten back in bed with him and is now encouraging assad to bomb his side of the syrian our iraqi border in order to
1:20 pm
push back against the isis people whom the united states was recently supporting if that sounds confusing it is but any attempt by the state department to sort of paint this as an assad problem or a problem caused by assad is simply beyond belief well maybe. the specifics were forthcoming then for a minute anyway but taking the most seriously the us has been really boots on the ground most certainly but it wasn't that long ago that ruling out asteroids what would it take that this goes further to bring boots back on to the ground in iraq do you think well what we've got here is the classic slippery slope this is how bigger wars start you begin with a few advisors and of course we already have three hundred combat troops mostly special forces already in iraq i'm certain their boots don't physically touch the ground i serve and they they step over things but the point is there's three hundred people on the ground already you've then escalated to airstrikes some of
1:21 pm
those airstrikes are claimed to protect the three hundred people on the ground well you've pretty soon then have to move towards protecting the aircraft that fly overhead you've got to have search and rescue in position and at the point where isis or perhaps moloch own militia in baghdad physically threatened the american embassy or the american consulate in her appeal it's very difficult to see how you can defend those facilities without food on the ground america has also stationed troops and apache attack helicopters at baghdad international airport in order to keep the airport open should more troops need to come in or should americans diplomats need to be evacuated out it's difficult again to imagine defending that airport without combat troops in action on the ground we saw this in vietnam we're watching it play out today i don't know whether the comments from the pentagon as well already and what they've been five or maybe a bit more than that as strikes from the already saying it's not been successful i would have thought surprise to boots on the ground as well when hearing that kind
1:22 pm
of message coming from the pentagon and of course on top of this now they're talking about arming the kurds to carry out that he would your reporting piece just before we began talking shows the the absolute absurdity of arming the kurds american weapons that we supplied. to iraq and to isis are being turned against us now it's very difficult to imagine how weapons given to the kurds will not somehow end up in the wrong hands it's also very difficult to imagine how weapons given to the kurds will not at some point be turned against the iraqi army should it attempt to intervene or perhaps at a later date against turkey over the disputed territory between kurdistan and the turks the idea of introducing more weapons into a battlefield to actually make things better is again i'm sorry bordering on absurd the only people happy here are the american arms merchants american weapons are being used to destroy other american weapons if you're selling those weapons that's
1:23 pm
called good business not for new york former u.s. foreign service employees thank you for your thoughts thank you washington's number one ally also has weighed into the u.k. sending at least three fighter jets to iraq is a london correspondent covering that side of it. there are checks it is to get aid to tens and possibly hundreds of thousands of refugees that are trapped on a mountain in northern iraq now these refugees are from the religious group now this is a people that have been brutally brutally assaulted by isis fighters in recent weeks they have said to have been tearing through their villages and just murdering hundreds of people and a huge number of them are now stuck on this amount a sin with no food and water we've also had from the ministry of defense
1:24 pm
reassurances that this is only a humanitarian mission but we do know that that surveillance there are reports that the surveillance that these jets carry out will be shared with the u.s. that we know has been carrying out air strikes against isis militants in kurdistan and we also know that parliament could be recalled so that members of parliament can discuss the ongoing crisis. on our website on you tube channel on the web site first a fractured report on fracking the u.k. government's no deleted some key passages from what was supposed to be an unbiased study on the controversial shale gas extraction method big news in the u.k. no future to dot com i don't know you tube look at these pictures over the guts to try and copy spider-man doesn't mean you've got the skills to do it and attempt to clone between two buildings on power cables almost went terribly wrong this russian

was recently revealed that under the guise of an hiv prevention workshop and as tourists you know let americans were sent to cuba by the u.s. government to overthrow that government yes the u.s. agency for international development organized for these young people to go to cuba to recruit and set up new political activists however the infiltrators were not very good at their jobs and the cuban authorities were able to nab these well funded travelers in their country this is nowhere near the first time that the u.s. government has tried to meddle in cuba in two thousand and nine usa he tried to set up a twitter like program to organize people in cuba and we can't forget about the ill fated cuban television airplane that was supposed to bombard the island with western media that was totally blocked by the government during the cold war i could see the justification to dominate cuba if the us didn't have influence in a country that automatically the soviets did but now what is the justification why does the us need to infiltrate cuba and by what right you want doesn't have nukes
