your role in. the world according to a gesture to. welcome our world come along for the ride. i'm tom hartman and i'll give you what the mainstream media can't tell the big picture. little and when you question mark find what you're looking for this little. old dog. will go deeper investigate and debate all so you can get the big picture.
9:30 pm
greetings sell you taste all right hog watchers another week has come to a close here in the d.c. swamp lands and like the humidity the idiocracy has been rather suffocating starting with the antics of one president donald j. trump who celebrated his seventy first birthday this week with what appears to be a truly senior moment after applauding saudi arabia and others in the region for taking a hard line and isolating the country of qatar trump proclaimed from the rose garden about a week ago that quote the nation of qatar has historically been a funder of terrorism at
9:31 pm
a very high level but apparently funding terrorism at the highest of levels is not a deterrent for a good ole arms deal less than a few days up to the donald's condemnation it was a. that the united states formally authorized the long term sale of twenty one billion dollars worth of u.s. weapons to qatar including twelve billion in f. fifteen fighter jets i guess he just forgot that they were bad guys supporting terrorism but it's not just donald trump having senior moments of forgetfulness this week the democrats appear to be having a little trouble remembering just who they are and what values they are supposed to be standing up for journalist ben norton and aldridge gray's own project uncovered that five democratic senators leapt across the aisle to join their republican brothers and sisters to vote fifty three to forty seven in favor of the trump administration's sale of five hundred ten million dollars worth of persuasion
9:32 pm
guided missiles to saudi arabia three of the five democratic senators including claire mccaskill of missouri and bill nelson of florida have not surprisingly been revealed to have rather deep campaign finance ties to the military industrial complex i guess i guess to casco and nelson and their ilk the interests of boeing and lockheed martin outweigh the safety and plight of the citizens of yemen. but the dems apparently were not finished there because were rumors on the hill this week are is that our democratic friends have sold the fight over health care up the river in order to among other things get bull republican support first stronger sanctions against russia and bind trump's hands in the process. just sold health care up the little river these these these are your political leaders of the united states of america. i think it's time to start watching the honks.
9:33 pm
it looks like. at the bottom if you. like you know that i got. the. well the watching the hawks i am tired robots are and i got to the wall and. try to get through that. returning champion as. i say that. professor of media universe today all right. that said understatement yeah i mean there's so much going on below it will will will start with with carter and donald trump's senior moment i think when you know what
9:34 pm
a few days before the arms deals in the absence of cutters funding terrorism and they're evil and bad and way to go saudi arabia and then you know twenty one billion dollars twelve million billion. to cover later. is trump just i'm you know this kind of blatant hypocrisy at this point what is a journalist to do i think he is on certain levels i mean you know they he. does play the old. fastest thing from the thirty's that like an impressive thing he does that he does it well and he doesn't because he's got support in congress for that because they really have nowhere else to go. a lot of them on either side of the aisle have the same aims as you open the show with you know with the military industrial complex but for the most part the republicans have no place else to go but deal with him and play to the base that he's excited i mean he can do this even when it's blatantly obvious with the with the other thing that you have this geo
9:35 pm
political sectarian thing going on in islam that very few people understand and he's put his his his his mitts into it and turned it into some weird arab versus arab you know and then he turns around and sells them twenty one billion dollars worth of stuff i mean i guess the twenty one billion won't be used for isis i mean what what what i just don't get that people need to call him to task for that let me let me ask you this though we were quick before we move on but like is a difficult for the media we kind of mentioned it to criticize trump when you know you got him as somebody by g.e. military contractor you know advertisers on c.n.n. lockheed martin you know is it hard for the media to kind of yeah they you know it's easier i mean that's why stuff like you know talking about russia russia russia russia is easier because you know you don't have lockheed martin paying your bills i mean that's what's going on so yeah it's much easier for them i mean that's
9:36 pm
that's part of it but a lot of it is it's very gets very complex to when he puts his simple self a do a complex issue that you should be able to cover it but they just can't do it and there's anything i think it's hard because they're trying to cover a certain covering tracks not actually covering it journalists but they're covering tracks. five democrats just jump on board with a bunch of republicans. over you know saudi arms deal is that you know there's no way that anybody and india in the any democrat can look themselves in the eye in the mirror and say yeah progressive am i i'm all about nine pm and run toward the republicans right i mean in libya they're just in the pockets of their finances right there in the pockets of who's financing them because that is commercial corporate t.v. and then the issues i mean if you're talking about middle eastern geopolitics they can't even handle syria correctly and you've got these different. is
9:37 pm
a poor focus. of power you know with the with the roane and and the turks and and the saudis i mean they're all you know jostling around on this chess board and you know it's loam is not a unified monolithic thing it's you've got that complex thing going on too they just can't handle it so you've got the complexity and the corporate sponsorship it makes for you know just bad news bad journalism and one of the interesting things i've seen in politics this week is you know everything's rumor. you know everything is not a source rumor this rumor that rumor that the rumor that i saw this week that i was like oh this is not true. congressional journalist jeff stein woodbox tweeted quote top senate democrat emails to say not going nucular on h.c.a. also allows them to hammer out a bipartisan russian sanctions deal so there's that. now. if the regular people among the voters are among some of the trump loaders that you want
9:38 pm
to try to peel off and you know. you're not going to get much currency with the russia thing beyond a certain. critical mass what with health care maybe even trump and so through under the bus you know the senate republicans are doing it in secret and they've got two weeks of of mitch mcconnell attacking obama care for these are all they're doing things would secretly try to do it too fast and then he's turning around saying we're not doing things in secret we're not doing they've got it it's like a wonderful you know perfect storm for them to throw in the republicans face and they will probably end up screwing it up it's just a bad thing to me to get this right on a silver platter it's not just over a platter the entire next election and everything is just handed to them on a silver platter and it's like they hear this song in their heads like we want to lose lose lose like every second you know that you can this is
9:39 pm
a specific winner for them for a bubble or is that a winner for them this is a winner for it is interesting well i want to look at this week at the women in film los angeles crystal and lucy a war it's hillary clinton when presenting an award to actress and supporter elizabeth banks clinton compared herself to wonder woman stating quote now i haven't seen wonder woman yet but i'm going to pay something tells me about a structure that a movie about a strong powerful woman fighting to save the world from a massive international disaster is right up my alley so professor chambers as a fellow so i can speak to and now my family you see the coffin there right now where does this comparison in your opinion hold water is she is hillary clinton won or are you praying praying with this was all tongue in cheek or trying to be funny . because they already do but see the thing is with her sure. is but with her she never really seems to carry it off well it's like her husband so i think there's
9:40 pm
a grain of yeah that could be that and i think that she maybe to back off well and we're go if i was in the movie i suppose you probably will resist all they want to send you a copy you know you're leaving your oh it's you know it's friday so i got to ask it were you know we talk pop culture of the year where were those the curve where you look at pop culture and politics there are twined to me these things are immediate all that's all that's the world we live in we're in your opinion chris where does the current state of politics the united states stand on the comic book well we have we've gone for hydro are we still a little while he's a reminder we have to think we're in hydra now ok only thing ironic and it's going to save it is either thing. from more of the air and i've got spencer back there back in the dark side from d.c. coming in and crashing everything other cities can get such otherwise it's going to be it's going to get worse i mean i think i think we're in that we're at full hydra
9:41 pm
right. i mean you know that's why we need black panther to come yeah this is going to respect. yeah i feel like we've gone dark where i'm going like dark like neil gaiman's side where yes like the gods are in the darkness going why are these people doing and why go and i don't know if i want to challenge if you make some weird jokes like that it doesn't help me help doesn't help things at all and i just i see it left and right the thing that really gets me at the end of the base that is that is that look we're a bad place right now we joke coloring books great but we're a bad place right now we need you know good reporting good journalism good punditry and good politicians and let me ask you as a as a as a journalism teacher or. how are you dealing with because that to me this is another one of those issues have a sort of white family of this idea that this white man who is very prevalent. she's out there being like the waste of all feminism in the world and you know
9:42 pm
that's like the last thing that would know what it would mean to hear me i'm one more white one it's more of my math i think that how do i how does a young female journalist well you know what to do i think that you know they they have to have their heroes and heroines to some of them have you larry clinton is there but i think that what they need to do is to hold hillary clinton to task say i wonder i'm a wonder woman fan because wonder woman is there fighting for all of us and she doesn't do that and a lot of people up there in this rarified level especially older women who have made it who have that who. are the wealth of the power behind them they don't bring it down a level which is what hillary clinton would probably need to do and what a younger female journalist should tell her to do is to bring it down we need wonder woman because she's down there helping us she's down there you know she would be down there trying to find the women to be down there trying to solve donald trump should be down there trying to find women who have been kidnapped and
9:43 pm
things like that and that's what i think that you see young journalists young female journalists and on all platforms including some who are writers and bloggers trying to bring it down to that local help us level help us help ourselves level not be you know help with world war one for going right. chris always a pleasure to have to our viewers george harrison thank you so much. as we're going to break our watchers don't forget to let us know what you think of the topics we cover facebook and twitter see our poll shows in our tease dot com coming up we are done talking wonder woman just yet is top of the wallace's uncovered a rather nefarious money grab and we preview this week's new episode of her back to john about it with gilda straight to the bottom of. please.
9:44 pm
for decades the american middle class has been railroaded by washington politics. big money corporate interests that's thrown out a lot of boys least that's how it is in the news pulse or in this country now that's where i come in. i mean it's still on our to america i'll make sure you don't get railroaded you'll get the straight talk in the straight news. to the. final bill and also to extend it a little now how's it done keep the point. line and if he would be would it be that easy to find ten that out in me. is said i must the city people. didn't.
9:45 pm

9:46 pm
for gallery space today's creative must contend with shares and followers to make their name in living additionally they have to try and protect their work from saft but not just someone taking a screenshot and using it as their profile pic but someone actually taking a design they found on the internet slapping it on a t. shirt t. shirt and selling it for twenty five dollars see big companies like urban outfitters wal-mart and target have all been caught stealing items either commissioned by or purchased by the stores for sale online and in the brick and mortar stores themselves that have stolen art on them and it hasn't gone well zahra is still getting hate for using los angeles artists to say boson's jewelry designs for a series of pins i mean they've practically ripped them off exactly family friend friendly kohl's along with two clothing manufacturers were sued last year by another los angeles based illustrator lily chen for copyright infringement when they still t. shirts and socks featuring change drawings without giving her consent without her
9:47 pm
permission and without paying her a dime and now even in the brands like millionairesses are ripping off smaller indie brands turns out the brand twenty four year old creator of the occurs who claims to be pushing this female empowering messages was listing everything from bruno mars lyrics to a very very well known feminist designed by indie artists the flaw and generally just capitalizing on the kitsch of being a wealthy twentysomething young white woman using the words of black culture to make a buck without paying the actual artists which brings us to this week when i purchased a print and tank top of a well known feminist art piece by lucas were neck who originally created the piece to support women and the cancellation of a chemical comic book series mockingbird by chelsea k. and many felt the work had been treated in a very sexist way by marvel who didn't support the book as. they had male fronted books so originally the black and white sketch were an egg made then made
9:48 pm
a full color version that he sold as an exclusive at a brazilian comic con many legitimate feminist organizations retreated the image over the last half of the year and eventually i saw it for sale both as a print and a tank top which i ordered upon inspection i realized something wasn't quite right it was off the quality for one that was sub par for the cost the artwork just didn't seem to be printed correctly and there was a reason first i contacted the company t. for humans to express my concern that the quality wasn't there but also that they were selling items they did not have the legal right to sell not only the tease for humans ignore numerous requests from me as a consumer they also ignored my request for me as a journalist they took the listing down within twelve hours of my increase at that said stop them entirely see this the widely revised version of the
9:49 pm
same stolen art same colors same qualities same shirt replace the old listing except now all of the tax trades just because i'm feminine doesn't need i'm not a feminist instead of the original ask me about my feminist agenda another message the words the embers of this modern fearless opinionated wonder woman with that quote doesn't even make any sense anymore so here's the thing whether it's urban outfitters stealing the work of native americans and slapping it on a fifty dollar flask or the blatant theft of a piece of art meant to inspire and empower it's wrong it hurts businesses or hurts consumers and most of all it takes money out of the hands of those who create the things we want in our lives. be careful that x. time you buy online or in person because you might end up supporting it believe that even realizing it this the major issue that we have today across the board is that you know you see people going out there you know hack and slash you know since
9:50 pm
the internet really i mean wouldn't you know but it got even worse i think with the internet where you have you know artist put something online people just hack and slash it and throw it up on the to serve up over here and major retailers doing this is a is a huge issue with run around for a while i mean urban air urban outfitters is known for doing it so much because they they've done it on a larger scale before people could really look for it but they've gotten much better now these little indie shops come up and they pop up like this one dead one minute it's gone and they put it up with another quote that makes no phone but it makes me angry if i don't buy anything from this company you keep an eye out for what you do because this was retreated by legitimate organizations not knowing that it was a stolen piece of art and that's the thing at the end of the day do your best to give the artists their do they sat down they worked hard they created something at least figure out a way to give them some credit for the work that is that well that's the bottom line or we're going to ask. who. they are to america show redacted tonight
9:51 pm
is the best comedy satire news show on television they are forcing me to say this much but i just want you to know that i'm ok. they aren't hurting me and murdoch to me tonight should win all the awards all of the. even the at speeds or whatever else comes with s.p.'s before they charge me again welcome our two regard to tonight's natalie would go john f. for you this week show wow wow that's amazing and then. yeah. yeah and it was real natural just like they practiced in. i swear i'm ok. i'm going to. fly out thanks a lot. don't you see working with you guys you notice they don't mean a famous thing for them anyway i'm just saying highly. so lazy i found out
9:52 pm
something kind of interesting about the super super ranch i was playing every week we find out some fun this is crazy that's allegation of well it is getting even crazier so currently five billionaires five guys bill gates of microsoft jeff bezos of amazon consulting agrees amazon are just mad today it's like they're buying whole foods and i was out as a six hundred million dollar contract with the cia and jeff bezos owns the washington post i want to talk about that it's all there side thing it just makes me feel creepy every time i think about it then you've got so it's bill gates jeff bezos of us your take of spain of zara the retail company was talking about is in there warren buffett of berkshire hathaway and mark zuckerberg of facebook those five guys have accumulated as much wealth as half of the world's population three point seven billion people they have those five guys have around four hundred billion dollars of wealth three point seven billion have a population has four hundred billion so these five hundred has four hundred ten
9:53 pm
billion so these five people are catching up to these to half of our population last year was eight guys now it's down to almost five so the wealth inequality is growing and you know i think it's a good thing because it means pretty soon someone's going to have everything and some guy's going to win capitalism that there's a kind of we get in the owners and they're like you said this whole thing and now you go to a more reasonable democratic socialism and how long this is going to have. not only damages were not and then people just wouldn't have staggered it's part of that like wrap your head i just realized you know hope the i guess my inherent peacenik but you don't you you hope that the people who have that much well. with kind of got to step back at some point be like. i bet i could help people with this you have a memory because there's a certain thing like that when you reach what's the difference really when you're making three hundred million a year and five hundred million a year there's nothing left for you to buy and all these guys have considerably
9:54 pm
more than that as well and then that goes dumping into the it's like we we look to these people as though are there all moral superiors and we do ask them for advice and some of them do do bill and friend of the on topic work but is it helpful i mean bill gates wants to be involved in education privatized everything right and right he wants to help with. starvation and things in africa but he just investing in monsanto you know so he has this he has this this this free market mentality about everything because it's gotten him wealthy then i don't know if that translates into the humanitarian sector all the all the time and beyond that a lot of these people they have gotten their wealth because of the nischelle technologies in development by by the government government funded tax taxpayer funded things that we've contributed to like the internet that they've been able to capitalize on but where's our piece of the pie you know i mean i want my facebook. back. so madly tell me about how the water.
9:55 pm
water that i'm drinking. water she's doing just fine. tell me about this water that i just took a drink out of tell me about how apparently it's going to poison me yeah yeah i should already know it already is the poisons working your way or his way their system so there's a study that came out of the environmental working group in one of these. seemed all right now it is actually kind of frightening to me what's happened. from northwest northeastern university to the vines fifteen million americans in twenty seven states are drinking water that's contaminated with per floral chemicals or p.s. and these are manmade chemicals that can cause cancer kidney disease thyroid tissue . it runs the gamut and these chemicals are found in things that are water resistant stand resistant they're found in fast food packaging so not like the food that you are already eating inside the packaging was poisonous enough the stuff that's a wrap in it is. and so the c.d.c.
9:56 pm
says that ninety eight percent of americans have some in their blood because it takes years and years for it to actually filter out but not only does the e.p.a. have no regulation for monitoring the same way they monitor lead and arsenic but no new contaminants have been regulated by the e.p.a. under the safe drinking water act since one thousand nine hundred. since they're found in a zillion and one things we use every day like shampoo cleaning products nonstick cookware makeup in short all the things i used before my mom visits my studio apartment to show her that i'm a self-sufficient adult who cooks our own meals and showers regularly those are the things that are slowly killing me on the inside about ninety eight percent of americans have seas in their blood which means people have seas are like that h.p.v.
9:57 pm
have chemicals everyone has it but it's not just cleaning and grooming products they can be found in there also in things like firefighting foam like this foam that overflowed when a fire alarm was tripped in an airplane hangar in santa clara california the same type of foam into groundwater from military bases across the u.s. . and our veterans i see no way for the present or they don't have them who are these. are not i mean any. where are they. are you. don't miss we're back to them which there is every friday that are to america. and then we've got to tonight be ip which features exclusive interviews and panels every thursday an hour to you america john o'donnell now let me go thank you so much for coming always a pleasure and that leaves juggling is our show for you today remember everyone in this world if you can over the water we are not told there are
9:58 pm
