it negotiations officially kicked off but not in the way that london would have hoped the british government's already been accused of caving into brussels over the brig's its schedule and opinion polls now show that if the country got to vote again it would reject leaving you so just like two reason may the plan for braggs it went from strong and stable so weak and wobbly within the space of just one yeah. special you summit on brics it hasn't got its second of the british prime minister and the president of the european commission you seem to differ pretty widely. as you still none the wiser as to what the u.k. actually wants. i was pleased to be able to search out which is a very very serious e.u. citizens who are living in the united kingdom if you give you

now the u.s. led coalition leading the offensive on the syrian city of raka is bombing everyone that's what locals at least have told. video agency despite the coalition's insistence that takes every civilian casualty seriously the grim situation on the ground does suggest otherwise. but i knew that i thought i knew that if this weren't what they are and you had nothing else of my family and you meant it the mother had a little bit as well i assure you that actually i'm a little mad about that as well and that is nesmith has that but you're the one you're the one who said that actually you anybody can do better than have a taste of what else has me and the dome that has you had the full day and then has become a vegan and i didn't. when it hasn't leninism what i want. to be. and has used a lot. did you didn't she. didn't

get. to kill all the u.s. led coalition hasn't denied using phosphorus which we just heard mentioned there it's operations is an extremely toxic substance and is burned from use as a weapon the coalition does say it only uses phosphorus in permitted ways during battle for example to create a smoke screen of a human rights watch has voiced concerns saying the substance poses a high risk to civilians of a leading force fighting islamic state on the ground all the kurds who are being armed by the american government however washington support for the kurdish fighters irritated its long term ally turkey kaleb open reports on how the us is trying to get around this problem. turkey was furious when it found out that the united states their longtime ally in nato partner was going into rock without them . we do not need terrorist organizations like the p y d n y p

g and the rock operation let us work together to wipe out. america the coalition and turkey can join hands and turn rocket into a graveyard for dash. as the united states is aligned with two bitter enemies in syria the turkish government and the kurdish fighters it's got a tricky bit of maneuvering to do secretary of defense mattis says that the united states will eventually take back the weapons it's now supplying to the kurds after the defeat of isis and this is turning into no small matter at this point the united states is shipping in heavy machine guns mortars other small arms and even some armored vehicles it's totaling over one hundred million dollars worth of war toys a large portion of which are going to the kurds when it's all finished some five hundred u.s. military personnel will have the task of collecting it all in an area that's almost the size of pennsylvania maybe they'll knock on doors and say hey you know those
9:10 am
weapons we let you yeah you're finished with them right and who knows what answer they might get the united states has promised to monitor the area and send out a monthly report that will include photographs this sounds like a great idea as the usa has already lost track of billions of dollars worth of weapons they sent to iraq and some of those weapons have ended up in the hands of terrorists there i think mattis made chromos inuits letter which presumably was gone but it still knowing very well that it probably would not be believed and very well would not be carried out but he made it trying to locate the target the u.s. is supplying the weapons for that it is there the u.s. is old and. goals which seems to be to break a part of syria to load the u.s. to dominate a separate part of syria basically they want to go to syria. and in violation of syria and stubborn integrity a country is torn apart by civil war with different factions vying for power as

civilians flee in chaos the pentagon has a brilliant idea send in more weapons just so long as they promise to give them back caleb mop and r.t. new york. russia's defense ministry has released a new video showing missiles being launched from was shipped on a submarine in the mediterranean targeting islamic state positions in syria. russian intelligence is tracking eisel fighters have been trying to escape their stronghold iraq through the so-called southern corridor that's pretty much their only way out as the city has been surrounded by u.s. led coalition forces for quite some time now for what we understand the fighters have been trying to go from brought to palmira by the hamas profits and that's where they've been targeted in the latest series of air strikes from russia now as i still continue to lose ground
9:12 am
a rocket this is certainly not the first time we've heard terrorists managed to escape the city in fact there have been reports last month of the kurds one of the main forces fighting isis opening up a chord or allowing the terrorists to leave the city of raka the kurds have the night this by the ministry of defense and russia have confirmed seeing the movement of large eisel convoy moving from towards palmira these latest images released it shows six cruise missiles being launched from two warships and a submarine currently located in the mediterranean and the strikes managed to destroy and i saw a command center and several i saw weapons stockpiles in the provinces while turkish and israeli forces that are also operating in the area they have been informed about the strikes in advance but nothing is said about communicating with the coalition forces as on monday russia has halted the agreement of military cooperation in syrian air space with a u.s. after they downed a syrian government fighter jet near iraq on sunday. let's go live now to

a warden journalist more to discuss this further thanks for joining us and here it seems the russians the americans two similar perhaps very different methods though was the lot of differences mainly in the two approaches to fighting us all. good question i think the difference is a quite vorst if you look both of the strategies in the ethos of both of these big plays one on the american side there is a two pronged approach which is confusing and conflicting at the best of times america wants to support a large demographic of forces not its own of course but others largely kurdish who are supposed to take over and destroy isis positions but the same time the americans also have their own geo political struggle within syria against the assad regime. and of course less small for also forget. the other thing which is quite interesting is that their presence in syria is entirely illegal so if you contrast
9:14 am
that against the russians the russians don't have such a complicated idea towards what they're doing or what their objectives are they simply want to hit isis isis hard so that that extremist group can be completely eradicated they're also invited and they're also prepared to put their own soldiers on the front line so i think there's a lot of differences and we've seen that today and in recent days with these airstrikes the american strikes on rocker seem to be quite into scrimmage and encourage heavy civilian losses that seem to care about about feeding the extremist machine with new recruits every day people who see their loved ones die by this indiscriminate bombing and also. on the contrast that the russians doing a very good job of striking isis and as a result of these american airstrikes which it created is right ratlines these corridors which your correspondent alluded to earlier you know those are
9:15 am
a result of not a very efficient and not very thorough and very serious ideology from the americans to destroy isis i've never believed that america really want to destroy isis in syria was i think russia's plans are. do you just start looking at the sort of battle maps of syria how they've chopped and changed over the last few months the fighting terror aspect of the syrian war seems to be moving closer to an end now weis is on its last legs many would argue what he thinks next though once isolates gone which it inevitably will do as a. field military force so to speak what's next with so many players there in the field. you know that's really what we want to know daniel the big question is do these all these huge international players actually stop and walk away or is there a second agenda is there a second game plan there and i think from the american position i have no question whatsoever that there is and it may well take some time but i think in the longer
9:16 am
term as i said in my in my first answer i think the americans do have a longer term and iranian agenda and hitting proxies of iran would be quite an attractive and quote for them a logical step to do so i think that that really does take away some or some of the mystery and some of the confusion is why america is behaving the way it is you know it has these strikes to support the kurds but at the same time time and time again we see repeated examples of skirmishes will standoffs with the syrian regime and the syrian regime the coalition partners like the iranians or hezbollah and that gives an indication of what the long term goals are but if you look carefully at. trump's long term vision of the middle east anyway i mean his he has a very very lucid idea of destabilising iran and what better place to start than
9:17 am
and syria if we are able to fast forward and look at the new picture in its coming few weeks the coming months whereby the extremist part of the equation is completely removed just speaking of the kurds there and of the proxies you mention obviously the u.s. is arming the kurds to fight eisel that's really irritated turkey use a u.s. ally nato member i mean where do you see that relationship developing because will they actually be able to get these weapons back after flooding the area with these arms is that realistic at all. no it's not realistic at all is it i mean it depends on whether you believe in fairy tales all or and father christmas i don't i don't imagine that those arms are going to be hunted but they might get a percentage of them back but i think we'll get a lot of excuses and a lot of farfetched stories about those some heavy guns being lost or destroyed in the confusion of war so i don't think we should hold our breath on now but it's the kurdish question who is arming them is becoming paramount in the last few days with
9:18 am
a new saudi crown prince in saudi arabia. prince mohammed bin salman has told the kurds in no uncertain terms that if he doesn't get what he wants which is for the turkish troops to be removed completely that he hinted he said he might look at options on arming the kurds themselves so you have an incendiary situation with the kurds in northern syria which has got so much more complicated in just in just the last few weeks with the cutter christ is emerging in america once again double it deliberate saying i'm not sure which foot to put its confident with to place itself in so it straddled both camps there is a lot of confusion just a week ago from the white house between trump and the pentagon over the qatar question so the kurds and arming of the kurds it keeps coming up time and time again and very worrying martin j. award winning journalist thanks for your insights today here on the syria question on our international. we've been hearing from eighty three year old woman who want
