russian the u.s. agreed to implementing cease fire in three syrian provinces following the first face to face meeting between president putin and trump. clashes between the twenty protesters and police are ongoing and with more than one hundred officers injured and scores of demonstrators detained. plus also to come and on the radar france admits there are around one hundred registered gun owners on its terror watch list despite the country having suffered a string of recent attacks.
2:01 pm
hello good evening welcome to watching our international just turned nine o'clock am now russia and the u.s. have agreed to establish a ceasefire in three areas of syria the announcement was made by russia's foreign minister sergey lavrov following a two hour long meeting between vladimir putin and donald trump on the sidelines of the g twenty summit. well since the russia the us and julian let's have reached a ceasefire agreement for syria will come into effect in three areas there are. and swear it will come into force on this one through july twelve am so moscow's time the u.s. and russia have committed to monitoring the sushma and ensuring humanitarian access to the areas initially suit your issue and these areas will be ensured by russian
2:02 pm
military police and close cooperation for us. because subdued unit. ok let's get more details now from any picture and he joins us from hamburg before that meeting started we were all wondering perhaps if anything concrete any concrete progress might be made on any topic but there we have it the answer from sergey lavrov. by the way. andrew you're absolutely right we were left guessing whether any breakthroughs are possible after these actually more than two hours of talks between the washington post and the u.s. president and as you can see we're now getting updates on new developments of very quickly and it's a bit difficult to digest them but of course we'll be doing that for you straight after that first ever meeting between lot of approval and doll trouble the russian foreign minister sergei lavrov came out of that room he was actually present inside so i assume he heard everything that was said there there you have it he got out
2:03 pm
says a cease fire and i guess that makes it a quarter of syria's territory that's the south western part of syria you may say that it is maybe difficult to call this a breakthrough because of how fragile cease fires in syria are and there are bound to be difficulties with that but just look at it from a different perspective we've we've never seen any breakthroughs like this under obama. in the first place i have to say that the president and the u.s. under obama didn't meet that often but never. we've never seen anything like that decision scott free decisions as you call that being made right after the first meeting after two hours of talks and again as i was saying that is many more.
2:04 pm
minutes of conversation than planned washington first said it was just going to be thirty minutes and the kremlin saying that the talks were meant to last for an hour . and they got through a lot didn't they doing that. trying to men's north korea and then one question everybody was asking. packing up and that did come up to apparently. it was brought up but first of all it wasn't brought up by someone whether it was brought up by the officials in that room but the many journalists who were ready. it's fair to say to attack the two presidents with questions just take a listen to what happened and what the journalists were screaming out as they were being asked to leave the room for the talks to continue behind closed doors. thank you very much. you might not have a life. well
2:05 pm
in the first place i just want to go back to russia's position that russian officials both and surrogates have been reiterating for quite some time now what they want to see as concrete evidence to russia's meddling in the u.s. election last year and this was something that i. put forward again during his press conference when he spoke when he spoke to the journalists. if you want to. view news which are you could you have than you have the book said this campaign has been blown out of proportion and that's been admitted by those involved accusations have been around for many months but no evidence has been provided to trump says that putin denied any involvement in the u.s. election is the sense that. the. reaction to the
2:06 pm
meeting from washington in particular from u.s. secretary of state wags tillerson is coming out with speak i just want to read some of what i got right now according to rex tillerson the american president donald trump opened their discussions by somehow conveying the message that was a message from the american people with all their concerns over allegations of russian meddling in the u.s. election is so according to rex tillerson that issue was brought up by donald trump himself and on several occasions that's what rex tillerson is saying donald trump brought that up during those discussions and a lot of money. on numerous occasions before that and several times during the meeting denied any of this any kind of involvement tillerson besides this said that very quickly the two leaders establish some sort of link and
2:07 pm
definitely according to extortion we've seen some chemistry between donald trump and vladimir putin this is the latest that i'm getting this is reaction to the first ever meeting between donald trump and a lot of our putin that's coming from washington i think i could tell you seem to be positive doesn't it dana thanks for that was only for trying for us in hamburg. and let's talk about it a bit more too with middle east analyst. joins us live now i mean good evening to you thanks for coming on. what were your impressions and firstly about what was said about syria and the fact that in the southwest of the country it looks like a cease fire and the cease fire will come into force at the start of july. well the pool elements of this agreement to. be revealed to us from point a second point that we need to take all cease fires in syria as in
2:08 pm
a temporary sense nothing is going to be so concrete but the fact of the matter is that the americans and the russians after six months of the mystery should have started sitting together and talking together and actually achieving results so that's a huge positive step forward now how this ceasefire is going to play out is it really clear we know that in certain areas in the south east there are just the al qaeda affiliated group and there is also the isis who everybody is picking a fight with the movement so who's going to fight how and you know what would this trigger some sort of a cease fire violation if one of the groups say well we've been attacked well sure but mosul was attacked we don't know so but at least things are moving on positive the there's been a lot of tension in the past few weeks in the south east you know the americans of
2:09 pm
attack syrian forces in our forces going towards a near the jordan iraqi syrian triangle border triangle. there is some incident there were some incidents between the syrians and these are e.d.s. because of some us tree fire and probably for things not to escalate and we have an uncontrollable sort of situation this is fire is a good cooling off period where would it be it's not. a least though it's constructive isn't it i mean listen to sergei lavrov he was saying the atmosphere those were his words were constructive and he also mentioned i thought it was interesting he said that both presidents are driven by that national interest but they are aware they have to find a balance of national interests it does suggest that they are so looking well ok we're concerned about this and and from our say well we're concerned about that and the trying to find a solution at least which didn't appear to be the case anyway from afar over the last few months a few years. it certainly is the case that they are talking constructive and you
2:10 pm
know the fact of the matter is that. this could be a starting point for further agreements elsewhere in syria and probably elsewhere in the world between the americans and the russians and we have too many flashing points perhaps with regard to the ukraine with regards to eastern europe with regards to north korea and so on there are so many conflicts but at least these two are starting to specially the two leaders having you know tested the water over the last six months without actually meeting now they've made they've started it with a constructive you know move forward and that is very good and we hope that this spirit would move on to include other areas in syria at least where for example in iraq are there seems to be a lot of confliction who gets we are and who leverage what and what does that mean or what would that mean on the longer term so now we think that the the atmosphere
2:11 pm
would allow over you know more let's say less defensive approach between the two powers and hopefully the syrian people will benefit from this sooner than later yeah all positive do you think the media coverage western media coverage will be so positive in their analysis of that meeting. where we know that there is a bit of conflict between the western media and western leaders at the moment especially in america so we don't know what was i mean it's still early regarding this particular agreement because you know little in cannes been spent so far but let's see over the second or the story coming twenty four hours what would they make of the it seems that they are now cautiously reporting these. we know that the certain media are bent on undermining the trumpet ministration anyway whether they
2:12 pm
would make. a concession to the russians and as we've heard in your report the main concern was not you know syria or ukraine or the north koreans but the you know how can issue within the u.s. with the u.s. election or the as you say hacking problem so they might continue you know the we might see headlines like you know trump conceding to putin the first time they sit together but we don't know what we are concerned about now is that this could be really the first step towards a more concrete approach between the two superpowers yeah trump is certainly under a bit of pressure to raise this issue to listen to secretary of state made the point quite clearly i think he tweeted it saying this is one of the first questions that was raised may be a good tactic you might think considering. the media glare on him at the moment but do you think it will draw a line under it do you think that was the hope between president trump and peyton that this could sort of start a new chapter here and we won't have to keep going back to this russia meddling
2:13 pm
allegation. what we think this this sort of topic shouldn't have been mentioned too much east in the meeting they would want the meeting obviously to be constructive that's what they want to throw in the very first place first place it's hard to imagine that those leaders would go into such a meeting those two leaders would go into such a meeting with a blank sheet of paper trying to brainstorm whatever it is the must have been efforts by teams supporting both leaders approaching you know considering what might be a deal that could be struck between the two and those people or those two people who sit together discuss things and if they feel comfortable enough with each other they might strike at least leader so there are there would have been a lot of planning prior to this meeting. in order to come up with something constructive and bringing the hacking issue into the meeting would have probably destroyed it so. whether they were trying to put him into the speculation i don't
2:14 pm
think so but at least they would want to neutralize it you know to get something out of this meeting the first meeting between these two which would be you know the start of you know a series of meetings this year will probably lead to one they wanted this to be constructive and i don't think that you know hacking should have been on the table in your k. or it's good to talk to you we were at a time there but nice to get your thoughts there was a my what half a middle east analyst thank you thank you very much. now the first face to face meeting hasn't been the only highlight of the summit say here are a few of the best moments.
2:15 pm
now and the summit protesters and police have clashed for a second day in hamburg security forces used water cannon and pepper spray against the demonstrators say three bottle stones and flares at police in fact over one hundred fifty officers were injured forty five protesters to tell you one hundred thousand people are expected to protest over the course of the summits over the next couple of days. it. was.
2:16 pm
so some pictures from a fence early let's get the latest from hamburg by going to our correspondent there peter all of the he joins us live. they said we were saying looking at pictures there of the sort of violent during the day but what's the situation right now. well it's continued down the east over the last twenty four hours now as you can see just behind me it is actually more water cannon a riving at the intersection where i am i believe there's actually another three water cannon this one behind the one you can see there there's another one behind it so two and three there's already two water cannon just over this way now they already firing out the protesters there who are responding with bottles i can tell you when the wind blows this way there is a well pungent tang of of pepper spray in the air and we have seen people being taken away. it is
2:17 pm
a standoff where i am at the moment but we've seen continuous rolling sporadic fighting between demonstrators and police for as i say the last twenty four hours. it's continued throughout the city it's one of the the main problems with having such a an event and such a demonstration in a big city like this there are so many different streets that people can dart down overnight from thursday into friday we saw some particularly violent scenes at times we personally witnessed a number of incidents whereby bottles were thrown at small. well platoons of police who then turned and charged the demonstrators those demonstrators you'd throw in those bottles well they were dealt with in a very severe manner i have to say they were beaten to the ground thrown to the ground in some cases many punches thrown by the police they are looking to try and contain but whenever the line gets crossed that they see they are certainly not
2:18 pm
backwards about coming forward if you get my meaning there is a a robust attitude amongst the police officers here one thing i can say that we've seen more old this time if we can come around almost one hundred eighty degrees here very different to last night you see more of these people in the pink. the pink vests just behind me the legal team here before i was speaking to you there was a confrontation going on by a young girl is being taken out of the crowd which is over to my right she being drug through here somebody who is stood on side of the police line went to intervene on her behalf he was reprimanded for continued to do that he was then thrown to the ground now the legal team was straight to him telling him to and telling the police to back off as well so it does seem that there's been some kind of mediators involved now and i can also tell you what we're hearing from the the left policy one of the opposition parties here in germany one of the main opposition parties one of the main opposition parties to this demonstration and
2:19 pm
these demonstrations saying that they want to distance themselves from the violence that we've seen they still stand by the point that they were against the g twenty that their approach socialist policy but they say they are against this now as you can see the water cannon is all going over there to some fireworks going off in the background. has been thrown some flares have been thrown as well that we can see that. but we're also seeing now is a we have we saw some actually of one thing i want to get on to when i talk about the violence we need to talk about the black bloc as they call themselves now this demonstration the biggest black bloc. in history the black bloc are essentially a left wing radical group. the troublemakers if you will in these demonstrations causing violence causing trouble and we've certainly seen this morning on friday morning there was scenes whereby a columns of black bloc representatives were going through the streets some
2:20 pm
breaking windows of. them some pretty shocking video when you think this is germany second biggest city one of the busiest cities in europe that this was happening on a friday morning they would a number of. huge plumes of black smoke soaring over the morning sky a morning and it is continuing here this is the first day of the g. twenty is going to continue tomorrow and on saturday we're expecting even more people to turn out so it looks like this may well be three days even four days of continuous demonstrating violent demonstrating many of said right here in hamburg and it is continuing and it's not stopping anytime soon you can see behind me extra police arriving we understand that reinforcements have been sent here from other police forces around germany from bavaria and elsewhere. to bolster what was already been described as one of the biggest policing operations in modern german
2:21 pm
history and as i say that is continuing right now. on the streets of thank you thank you. a hundred. a terror watch list. i have asked local police to identify the registered owners of firearms on terror watch lists we have identified about one hundred people and the orthorexic are taking action to correct the situation this appears to be a significant dysfunctional it's the announcement comes just a couple of weeks after the latest terror attack in central paris when a car full of weapons and gas canisters rammed into a police van the attacker was the only person killed in the incident thirty one year old though a man was unknown gun in the enthusiastic also on a terror watch list french journalist and author of jihadist france alexander
2:22 pm
mendell told us that legal gun ownership by people on the list is not the only concern either. the show he shows that the. carelessness of french bureaucracy you have ten thousand people that are registered on the watch the least on the on the. other end you have about one percent of them that legally own weapons the frightening thing about that is is that they have access to shooting ranges where the go to to train where sometimes even have to meet local police policemen and they talk with them and they have information about security it's not about the weapons themselves it's more about the fact that they are they have access to these shooting ranges where they. can train to shoot. now

after months of reporting on alleged russian meddling in the u.s. election using unnamed sources c.n.n. seems to be changing its attitude towards anonymity one of the channel's own political analysts now says that people do not have the right to stay anonymous it was in response to the backlash the network faced threatening to reveal the man behind a viral main featuring president trump wrestling the c.n.n. logo. as that. c.n.n. now thinks that we the people do not have the right to be anonymous this is how kirsten powers their political analyst explained it in a tweet. people do not have a right to stay anonymous so they can spew their racist massage honest homophobic garbage now that's an interesting argument coming from a network that's been running stories about trump based on unnamed sources for months based on anonymous sources according to this source who spoke on the condition of anonymity anonymous sources are the basis of most truthful reporting
