donald trump's willingness to work with russia following positive talks at the g twenty is met with deep skepticism in washington. european energy companies slam u.s. threats of new sanctions against russia saying the measures puts the consonance and your security at risk. and a severely disabled russian man is sentenced to four and a half years in prison for the carrying out and so. the welcome comes to life from moscow you're watching international. following the g. twenty summit the u.s.
2:01 pm
president has said that after a significant deal on syria it is time to move forward and work with russia but despite the optimism that donald trump may be facing opposition from within his own administration. has the story while terms time at the g twenty summit was of course wildly wildly picked apart and attacked on all fronts in particular his meeting with president putin and now we're seeing those hits pay off according to a recent tweet trump is backtracking on a cyber security agreement he discussed with his russian counterpart but the idea of such a joint effort was widely criticized here at home on the basis of russia's alleged hacking activities former u.s. defense secretary carter even thought he could see an old soviet ruse behind the leader's proposal he did to the russians pulled out the old playbook i've seen all this going back to russia so. when confronted with something they've done wrong and
2:02 pm
ask for u.s. intelligence trick in the same light a former state department spokes person said in an article that trump had fallen into putin's trap and has lost the ability to fight back in the future something she. was fully expected and when it comes to allegations against russia we continue to see mixed messages coming from within the trumpet ministration the u.s. ambassador to the united nations nikki haley has claimed that everybody knows russia meddled in the u.s. presidential election appearing to contradict donald trump's view but no one is sure i think it was russia but i think it was probably there are people who are countries and i see nothing wrong with that statement nobody really knows nobody really knows for sure everybody knows that russia meddled in our elections everybody knows that they're not just meddling in the united states elections they're doing this across multiple continents and they're doing this in a way that they're trying to cause chaos within their countries so reflecting on
2:03 pm
last weekend's g. twenty summit the u.s. president tweeted that after brokering a significant deal on syria it's time to move forward and work with russia but we train opposing views in his own team and constant criticism it's unclear if optimism over contacts with russia can last very long. ok let's get the thoughts now of ray mcgovern he's a former cia officer and joins us live now i think he's getting the finally put into his ear the hope you can hear is. firstly i mean we've heard nikki haley talk as well since the g twenty saying that it's clear in her mind that russia was guilty of hacking but still no evidence will we ever get to hear or see any evidence. well you know when president obama told putin to cut it out putin said. can you give me some evidence and according to putin as he explained the president what was going on the
2:04 pm
president's self had increased doubts the president himself two days before he left office said this at a press conference it remains to be seen how the russian hack got to wiki leaks well hello the reason it remains to be seen it is because what got to look at leaks was not a hack it was a leak a leak is where you put a little thumb drive in a computer you download it and it doesn't go over the network once it goes over the network and it's a has it always always that's hard to believe but it's true so what happened was someone with the within the democratic national committee saw how bernie sanders had been cheated out of the nomination and decided you know i really need to tell somebody about this put in a this is my speculation put in
2:05 pm
a thumb drive gave it to julian aside and he released it immediately what happened well nobody paid attention to what was in the e-mails namely that the democratic national committee fixed the domination so that bernie sanders wouldn't win nobody paid attention to that the whole thing was a magnificent distraction the russians hacked the russians hacked russian and there is still snow evidence there were about five investigations in search of a crime that is really unique in my experience in washington yes still no hard evidence coming forward but the story just runs and runs doesn't it right will it ever end he thinking. well it has the prospect of lasting for the next three years. you know i think the democrats being very foolish because unless they have the cia. create some evidence they're going to fall
2:06 pm
flat on their faces now the whole thing has to do with who got the e-mails from the democratic national committee to julian assange and now i have a very good speculation here it's based on what the new york times does not publish . the original cia documents published by wiki leaks on march twenty eighth revealed something called vault seven part three which allowed the cia to opt to skate that is confused who hacks into these systems and leave a little telltale signs like oh maybe cyrillic or felix and wonder of each now the cia used that capability last year two thousand and sixty eight it doesn't take a rocket scientist to put these dots together all cyrillic left in the
2:07 pm
d.n.c. could well maybe i'll just say right out that if i had to judge between whether it was a russian hack or a cia. penetration or a cia use of this incredible capability i would go with cia using this incredible capability right off the bat the problem is we have a president now and less look around at the cia in the military and what we call it deep state he could ideally call his cia director and say mike pompei oh nuff of this foolishness i want to find out chapter and verse i don't believe that concocted memo of january sixth you find out what really happened now would pump aoe the head of the cia be able to find out i don't know if he found out would he tell the president i don't know they're afraid of the deep state that's
2:08 pm
the big problem here. we might never know i suppose is the conclusion we've run out it's time i right could tell you again as for my cia officer right mcgovern thank you. now some of the largest energy companies in europe have slammed american threats to impose new sanctions on russia china dubin ski has that story. well this is about a pipe that's due to be built from russia right the way through to europe ending in germany and supplying a lot of the energy needs to countries and what's happened is that some of the c.e.o.'s of some of the energy companies in europe have slammed these new threats of sanctions against this pipeline project by the american u.s. senate saying that it's unacceptable that they should be trying to meddle in you e.u. policy the principle of american sanctions on a project that is not in us does not involve us that it's not in dollars it is an
2:09 pm
interference in the fears of european countries in that it's an acceptable the proposed sanctions not only affect russia but also europe and germany i appeal to all parties involved not to turn the project into a pawn of global politics and to leave the problem of europe's energy supply to europeans it is unacceptable that european energy policy is now being made in the u.s. well a number of e.u. companies and countries that agreed to support this project it's called the nord stream two project and this is a pipeline that's due to be operational by the end of two thousand and nineteen and it's due to start in russia to be built underneath the baltic sea and the project is expected to cost around nine point five billion euros so this is a huge project indeed and it's under some uncertainty now with the potential of these threats by the u.s. senate now those threats of sanctions against moscow and this particular project
2:10 pm
still have to be passed by the house of representatives in the u.s. but if that is passed it really will put a big question over this project and whether it can deliver that energy to europe and supporters of this project say that it is absolutely needed to secure the future of energy in countries what levy done is gone as far as accusing assent. the u.s. senate of protectionism suggesting that by threatening sanctions against the project america would essentially be pushing its own gas supplies on e.u. member state and then protecting american workers so this is much more than a war of words this is an energy war that e.u. companies say that america just shouldn't be involved in it all. now germany's chancellor angela merkel has been facing criticism for choosing hamburgers the g twenty host city three consecutive nights of riots number precedented violence rocks several districts as world leaders did gather for the talks last week the
2:11 pm
country's president says germany hasn't witnessed such brutality in years. we have not had violence of such magnitude demonstrations in germany in recent years. there were apparently some who acted ruthlessly and destructively against police forces and also against the property of ordinary citizens or german police were out in force but over twenty thousand of them struggle to contain protesters with hundreds of officers left injured security forces in hamburg face criticism too for failing to cope with the chaos about this video that shows violent protesters in black mass throwing chairs and fireworks through shop windows with apparently no sign of any police officers to contain the march. and images of burning cars and streets littered with debris left local shop to international media outlets echoed those thoughts these are some of the headlines
2:12 pm
chancellor merkel condemned the violence while many german politicians stress that the left wing radical protests had been underestimated. again fessor to give it and get him to pull charlie teat of t.v. put its indecent cogging disc it sponsors get fits him if you don't get tough in this fall television chefs that escaped michigan thinks that they should have to go to prison the woman shifting in which i needed a further. i was.
2:13 pm
past the dust settles in hamburg volunteers have been helping to clean up the streets restore shopfronts their analysts we talked to say that violent leftist scrapes have been in the area for years but nothing has been done about the. the left wing commits much more physical violence and the right wing this is something we know overhears of we see it for many years and nothing has changed yet definitely there has been much more violence on behalf of also left wing extremists but. also certain the difference in the targets of course that the choose it is. a while and now that we have
2:14 pm
seen in hamburg which is really like a senseless meaningless it just. just two short. relatives and a member of the russian parliament are accusing authorities of badly neglecting the welfare of a severely disabled man who's been serving a prison this follows a controversial court ruling where the wheelchair bound man was joe for four and a half years on charges of assault and i discussed the case with artie's. the twenty eight year old man named and he has been sentenced to four and a half years in prison for armed robbery i guess two men that he apparently knew and was trying to sell him a scooter and the man we're talking about here he is someone who has a must so wasting disease which is a progressive and a genetic disorder and at this point we understand that he's paralyzed from the
2:15 pm
neck down meaning it's hard for him to even move his body without any help and because of his condition he weighs nearly eighteen kilos and that is why when you take a closer look at the ct statement it's really raises a lot of questions the statement we have has been found guilty for threatening to shoot the owners of the scooter in the leg put them in the boot of the car and drive them to the forest he then went on to promise to cripple them cut their ears off pop their eyes out and shoot them to death and it is such a strongly worded statement and really it begs the question how can a paralyzed man commit such acts and we're learning more about personal life as well we know that he is married he has a young daughter and it's going to be really didn't stop him from achieving his goals are such as graduating from university he's also an economist and he owns an ngo that helps disabled children so he's in prison at the moment is still concerned controversy about how he's being treated yes mamiya was sentenced on june thirtieth and he's been been in prison since then and from what we understand he's been
2:16 pm
assigned an inmate as his care and this care is not professionally trained and at one point this inmate left the room that was in and as a result he was left by himself. for hours he couldn't move to turn his body or even eat and this incident has sparked a human rights group to call for my ass release saying that it's simply inhumane to imprison someone with condition and so since then the russian federal monitoring body of a president has ruled that medical exams must be performed. and the results of these example determine whether money ever will be released or he'll be transferred to another facility or otherwise. we did speak to and tones lawyer and he says that . condition is worsening and that he hasn't slept for three nights. it was hoped that delegates at the g twenty summit might have been able to reach a consensus on what to do about the crisis on the korean peninsula with tensions escalating between the north and the us the year of strategic patience
2:17 pm
with the north korean regime has failed many years and it's failed. and frankly that patience is over i give the highest honor to our respected great leader kim jong il who made our country a powerful nuclear giant having the most powerful intercontinental ballistic missile. the united states is prepared to use the full range of our capabilities to defend ourselves and our allies one of our capabilities lies with our considerable military forces we will use them if we must. our respective leaders said that the us would be unhappy to witness north korea strategic power on its independence day and call for frequently sending big and small packages but when it comes to nuclear arms north korea and the u.s. if. young still doesn't have any missiles capable of sending more heads over
2:18 pm
comparable distances the furthest they ever managed is nine hundred thirty kilometers which is nowhere near the range of u.s. warheads so it will be threats every night to anything will we put that to greggory elate from the korea policy institute. i think it's a great idea or exaggerated. first of all the while song fourteen with all that it recently launched there's some question whether or not that's the one that i thought russian monitoring equipment had a very different result than what we're here in the united states for this sort of thing about the capability of them both also russian affairs of the thing it's actually intermediate in the thought but even if you take the u.s. position that. the range is only capable of hitting alaska and that's with. apparently most likely an empty warheads if you the way you did the weapon that would be the range for but this is only
2:19 pm
a single test of any kind of operation old nuclear weapons program we would require a year with testing and multiple multiple. united states has nearly seven thousand nuclear warheads north korea right now probably no more than ten it would be suicidal for north korea to launch a nuclear first strike and with north korea is quite explicit about the purpose of its program is the nuclear deterrent its intent is to ward off attack from the united states. there is a bit of a double standard here and that washington has never complained about india israel or pakistan's bullets taking the focused and in fact india conducted a ballistic missile test earlier this year as good pakistan but only north korea has singled out with un sanctions forbidding it from doing ballistic missile testing and i think the gist of the washington's concern is that has friendly
2:20 pm
relations with other nations whereas this has quite hostile relations with north korea. the more washington and threatens north korea or comes out with harsh rhetoric the more it actually convinces north korea of the need for a nuclear weapons program the united states regularly conducts a joint military exercises with south korea i think the last one involved more than three hundred thousand troops and ships and airplanes and they're practicing the bombing and invasion of north korea and they also have commando exercises that practice what they call a decapitation strike which in other words is the assassination of north korean officials you can imagine if the reverse were true just imagine if they ever actually were conducting joint exercises with cuba practicing the bombing of the united states and invasion united states and practicing commando operations to it fascinate u.s. officials the reaction i think would be utterly hysterical but when the united
2:21 pm
states does the same thing against north korea it's seen as just normal everyday business no reason for north korea to be concerned. iraqi prime minister has traveled to the city of mosul to declare victory over islamic states now the terror group's former stronghold has been recaptured the p.m.'s convoy travel through mosul where only a small pockets of militants now remains they are expected to be defeated seeing celebrations sprang up nationwide to mark the victory. and the most of the operation success has also been widely celebrated in the media . it is not often on the show that we can break good news about iraq but today is
2:22 pm
one of those days the country's prime minister arrived in mosul today to declare a great victory as he joined his troops to celebrate in the city they've lost many comrades along the way but today the iraqi security forces were firing their weapons in celebration claiming victory over there ready. well the iraqi military along with u.s. support launched a campaign to liberate mosul from ice a last october since then the human rights groups have repeatedly re serious concerns about the civilian casualties being caused by coalition forces. from the. way.
2:23 pm
the. human rights watch told us more about the toll the liberation took on the city civilians. operation to retake mosul particularly believe the west of the city that is that's been raging february has come at an incredibly high cost we've seen much of the west of the city completely destroyed by ground fire and by airstrikes and we've seen a mass spike in civilian casualties thousands of civilians being wounded and being
2:24 pm
killed in the fighting so sold in the city has really paid a price for this operation. we were calling particularly on the u.s. led coalition to take more care in the way that it is conducting its bombing campaign and particularly the types and sizes of bombs that it's choosing to drop because of these large volumes that are being dropped more and more frequently we've seen a massive increase in civilian casualties on the ground. unfortunately the general feeling among the coalition and the iraqi government is that because the mentor to finish the operation has been on their side they've wanted to use all means to get it done as quickly as possible and as a result we haven't seen them willing to for example take certain types of weapons completely off the table so as to better protect civilians. and cern's are that with these civilian casualties we don't see accountability we don't see
2:25 pm
american commanders taking responsibility and we don't see compensation for the victims. some unused now coming in from moscow because a massive blaze has forced the shopping mall in the north of the russian capital to be evacuated thousands of people were in the building at the time these are live pictures from the scene the emergency services are currently searching for anybody who might still be inside that building reports say the fourteen people have been injured including a child like. a prominent bahraini human rights activists has been sentenced to two years in jail after being found guilty by a bahraini court of publishing and broadcasting false nice to be able to jab was arrested last year after speaking out about the gulf kingdom's human rights record he was subsequently charged with spreading malicious rumors and undermining the prestige of the state this was not however his first run in with the authorities
2:26 pm
and has been arrested multiple times over the years into jail time for comments he's made to the media but it is currently still say facing fifteen years in prison for a series of tweets criticizing the war and when we spoke to the beauty jabs cousin he says the job's trial violated international law. and the beautiful job was not given. to meet his family or talk to his family or meet his lawyers and the last couple of days this trial is clearly in it by the government of bahrain to silence all forms of criticism for human rights violations the be a roadtrip was charged for intentionally purposely spreading false information and all he did as a human rights defender was revealed a human rights violations which happened in bahrain including systematic torture
2:27 pm
which is practiced by the government of bahrain and i would like to openly call upon the united states the united kingdom. e.u. and the international community to intervene to stop the massive on go in human rights violations and the train condemning is not enough it's time for the international community to play a role in countering and stopping and putting can and today on go inc human rights violations in bahrain we also heard from the director of the bahrain freedom event and he tells us that the beauty of jap as a way spoken out against injustice regardless of the consequences of the stories that no one should say anything you have to have to accept the slave monster relationship that you are a means a slave for that now and maybe chose not to be
2:28 pm
a slave chose to be a female like more than four thousand to print political prisoners at this moment of time for them a bit of a job being a human rights activist what should he do should just keep quiet about the ongoing imprisonment torture. tension. and of course. i do. fantasies of that e.g. we all should he speak out free people who want to say something they want to defend there are competitors and also they want to do to perform their human a duty this is what that we chose to do and he spoke out. you're watching our say thanks been with the c. next it's a look at the growing discord among the member states that scene getting underground .
2:29 pm
financials. i. think. some of my ex in the future don't crack up. i'm afshin rattansi we're going on the ground thirty two years to the day france bombed and destroyed the greenpeace rainbow warrior killing photographer fernando pereira coming up in the show the worst refugee crisis since the second world war it's a brick.
