coming up on our team america the white police officer who shot and killed a black man in ohio wal-mart back in two thousand and fourteen will not face federal charges we've got the full story coming up. and in georgia an officer was caught beating a homeless woman with a baton inside of a gas station will discuss this case and more with reverend barry lynn scott he. and the u.s. navy has polluted drinking water supplies in washington state at levels four hundred percent higher than what is considered safe.
4:01 pm
it's thursday june thirteenth four pm in washington d.c. i'm ashley banks and you're watching our team america we begin today with this week the department of justice announced it will not bring charges against a white police officer who shot and killed a black man and ohio walmart beaver creek police officer sean williams fired the fatal shot at twenty two year old john crawford the third who was carrying a toy rifle around wal-mart one another customer called the cops r t simone del rosario joins me from the news room with how crawford's family is reacting to the news it's been nearly three years since be written ohio police officers shot and killed a black man carrying an unloaded toy air rifle through the aisles of wal-mart store surveillance video from august fifth twenty fourteen shows twenty two year old john crawford the third with the merchandise he picked up from a store shelf walking around while talking on his phone a customer called nine one one claiming crawford was loading the rifle and pointing it at children are. according to authorities the video proves otherwise but that
4:02 pm
call is what prompted beaverton police officers to storm and shooting and killing crawford in the store this week the department of justice announced it will not bring federal charges against the white police officer sean williams who shot and killed crawford a decision that family attorney michael right calls disappointing. if this is not a case where officers should be prosecuted i don't know under what set of facts will the department of justice prosecute any police officer you know a young man that was walking in a retail store in wal-mart with a product that was sold by that store in minutes later he was shot and killed according to the department of justice and u.s. attorney's office investigators found insufficient evidence to pursue charges against williams stating it would be required of both to disprove his stated reason for the shooting that he was in fear of death or some serious bodily injury and to
4:03 pm
establish that williams instead acted with the specific intent to violate crawford's civil rights police say crawford did not obey commands to drop what later turned out to be an airsoft rifle crawford's family says he was shot on sight and the any command from police came simultaneously with gunshots the family believes if police simply stopped to assess the situation the son and father of two would still be alive but months after the shooting a grand jury investigation found the two officers involved were justified in their actions the case has prompted protests in the street and another demonstration in light of the latest justice department announcement is now planned outside the courthouse next weekend now that the state and federal government has failed to bring criminal charges in this case the crawford family's only recourse is a civil lawsuit against the city and wal-mart which is set to go to court next year in washington simo dollars r e o r t. now on to georgia where an officer was caught
4:04 pm
on video beating a homeless woman with a baton inside of a gas station the incident took place in the cater georgiou on june fourth and the video you can see officer p.j. were she to hitting the woman identified as stacy zachary several times with a metal baton while she lay on the ground at one point the officer places his knee on zachary's back in the middle baton on her neck exactly then places one of her hands on the baton an officer was she'd then shouts quote let it go or i will shoot you take a lot. you are going to shoot you know please go sure you. do. and it's video was originally posted online on june sixteenth several days after an internal investigation was pursued clearing the officer of
4:05 pm
any wrongdoing now that this video has been charity through social media countless times over the last few weeks it's led the department to reopen the investigation joining me now to discuss this further is reverend green once got a haggler senior minister of plymouth congressional united church of christ thank you so much for joining us reverend now originally this officer was cleared of any wrongdoing there was an internal investigation before this video came out now we want to be seeing a reopening of this investigation on must this video obviously was published now in your opinion should police departments do away with these internal investigations of the internal investigation always generally pharms the police justify i mean the reality is that that's a standard that something has to be so agreed just in order for them not to be justified so it's biased towards police officers and as you can see right here in this in this case. decatur georgia he's not some doing her he's beating her there's
4:06 pm
a difference right he's not doing her to handcuff her or to arrest her he's beating her before the arrest because you can see that he repeatedly beat her and beat her and what would be characterized as resistance is only human reaction of somebody trying to defend themselves from somebody who's mercilessly beating them and that's what's going on in this videotape is that he's not doing he's beating being the person right and you can also hear in the video people are like don't resist just lay there but naturally if you're getting hit by a baton you're not just going to lay still and like you've said these internal investigations are by and so usually they are a fact and a fact of nouns and let me point out that that's why you have police officers operating for impunity because they know that if they end up in the process in terms of investigation it's still slanted towards them it's biased towards them and so they can go on the act with impunity they can they can treat the community any a way because they know that there's really going to be no consequences that they will have to pay unless something is so egregious and yet it has to be discovered
4:07 pm
there's to be verifiable evidence so it's all it's all slanted in the direction the department is saying that they're reopening the investigation what do you think is going to happen the outcome of this well i think that what should happen obviously is that the officer needs to be disciplined and probably needs to be fired for that kind of force that is being exercised because it's not judicious in terms of what he's doing it in dangers of the police officers law because if that's my attitude the way you're going to approach me is the way you can approach are that i'm going to be obviously on god i'm going to react in a particular way just like the appearance of police officers because i know that they're looking at me as non-human they're looking at me as somebody that they can beat up on and prey upon and that's the kind of perception that is going on in the community is that people are saying that there is not a regard in which police officers see other people as human beings and right now the officer is on administratively we don't know whether. it's paid or not usually paid usually about usually the case that we're not sure
4:08 pm
a vacation so i on my next question to you when it comes to officers usually in these cases video hasn't surfaced and so it's their word against the victims the word but shouldn't in your opinion these officers all be equipped with video cameras but we even seen the however when this video cameras with the quip that officer quit they can still do what they do and they still walk because everything is still slanted towards the officers you've got somewhere video cameras a cut off at the crucial moment i mean that's but happen in the past or you have things that are actually recorded by the video cat but it still is just in terms of the in the process of the law enforcement process a. justifiable way because the argument is oh they've got a dangerous job and their lives are at risk and they have to make split second decisions and all of that type of stuff well the issue is that most of them are not trained properly most of them talk to look at a community through
4:09 pm
a particular lens of stereotypical lens in terms of the criminality or the animalistic nature of people of color much the way they respond and so the training is not is not adequate. even the psychological screening that happens very often with law enforcement is not adequate when you have really ill equipped officers that are out there in the community so called serving but really sort of riding roughshod in many cases all over the community and unfortunately it seems like we are seeing this obviously time and time again like you said no matter whether there's video that surfaced or not like in the case of randall could still and how the officer was acquitted of any wrongdoing even though video surfaced showing what happened in that situation so do you believe that this is just going to continue that there's absolutely no solution to this to this issue here in the country one of the things is that we really need to have true civilian review boards i'm not talking about civilian review boards that's controlled by the police or controlled by the government but a real civilian review boards that. senses acting as consumers looking at how these
4:10 pm
officers are patrolling the community and whether it is justifiable only because every place we've had generally civilian review boards has been taken over by law enforcement has been taken over by government or they've made sure that they have not had the legal kinds of teeth and want to prosecute police officers so there's still it's been it's been a ruse when they set up soviet review boards because they really lack the power in order to be able to implement judgment so we really need true civilian review boards that have the legal authorize legally and want to prosecute and police officers that are particularly caught doing wrong and they were hoods and communities and i want to get back to the video we can see the officer yelling at the woman and count leslie beating her with this metal but time we hear him saying let go of this but on or i will shoot you now amazing comment now coming from his officer he's threatening this woman's life after brutally abusing her with this metal but time and your opinion did he go too far when he would do far first of all
4:11 pm
if his use of that put on. the asli it did not take all of that in order to subdue somebody that you were going to make a prisoner and then to keep beating somebody and not expect that person me or you for that matter not to respond and not to try to get control over the instrument that's beating us and causing us great pain is a is a kind of ridiculous notion right so when he moves to the point of saying you need to let go of the shoot you shoot you for what the fact is you have somebody that is being beaten mercilessly and somebody who travel defend themselves now i want to go to the charges the woman would charge she was a homeless woman and when officers received a call of it for a woman who was begging for money at the gas station and we see this time and time again where people are in need of money and don't have jobs for numerous reasons now she was charged with obstructing or hindering lawn foresman on. officers and was given out criminal trespass warning now these charges that she faces were they
4:12 pm
at all necessary or even if you look listen to the charges why would any of those charges warrant a beating right away but that's the reality right your parent handling you're on somebody's property or probably out there in the parking lot where there are people fueling up why would we have a really want a beating in the first place or even a rush in the first place i mean the most that would be a ticket item for me so you know so the issue is what happens is people are not allowed to do the kind of panhandling in certain communities that they do in certain communities there's a class difference there's a difference in terms of what people expect and what people tolerate and therefore what police will patrol and what police will try to remove from from neighborhoods and communities depending on class again that's a good point i'll be interesting obviously to see the outcome of what happens to this officer second for another time thank you so much for that now that was
4:13 pm
reverend graham once god hagler senior minister of plymouth congressional united church of christ thank you for your time here. things are not looking good for qatar after it seems things are moving towards a resolution the saudis and other golf countries think they have president donald trump support in that secretary of state rex tillerson doesn't represent trump's view that's why his recent visit to the region has been a failure artesia leadership of all of us has more. that was going to wind down in the last few days but now some are saying this could turn ugly the gulf states want to some to get cancer for simple greed jealousy and domestic politics they say greed is to take the country's resources jealousies over cancer winning the world cup and its right to development plus a progressive dimension such as. international universities that the saudis and united arab emirates obviously were given past assurances of support by trump until actually. those now count our support for the palestinians is
4:14 pm
a big problem for the saudis the u.a.e. mostly for use this saudi line they see constant as a direct competitor an upstart and a country that should not be independent egypt isn't happy about qatar support for the muslim brotherhood bahrain is not quite independent in its decisions and will do what others want it to do to cancer meanwhile the u.s. secretary of state faced huge diplomatic challenge earlier this week as he visited persian gulf allies in the big and the standoff between council and its neighbors it seems like to listen to and go back to how it was as he supports caught up. now saying the intent of saudi arabia and the u.a.e. is annexation either by installing a compliant regime or invasion but most are not quite as blunt about the possibility of invasion and overly optimistic about a solution russia's hedging its bets and playing it cautiously counter has the money to help rebuild syria providing it's not under severe economic pressure now
4:15 pm
so there are possibilities for corporation there iran has been helping as has turkey qatar will see turks as more useful allies turkey is really the pivot it is a nato but also closer to russia now more turkish troops have arrived this week. the largest u.s. base in the middle east but it's not really an issue no one seems to remember but if the saudis were to invade or a max qatar the u.s. would still have a base as the saudis are u.s. allies to the base does not offer insurance that's why the turks are coming in greater numbers equally there are no qataris who fight most qatar is a very wealthy the army is made up in part of foreign nationals who become citizens if an exception was on the cards with the guitar regime cave in or just flee so good could tyreese fight to the death by bringing in the turks and the uranium. when they have their money and assets safely abroad who knows the answer the guitar

is a very smart and internationally connected all speak perfect english there and they're very aware of the wider world and diplomats they feel shocked by all that is as it was so unexpected but if diplomacy fails and trump doesn't act in favor of a resolution then we're heading for a prolonged economic war at best and an invasion or regime change at. the pentagon brief the german military on its new f. thirty five fighter jet berlin is considering potential replacements words aging tornado fighter jets. examines whether the f. thirty five would make a good substitute. the f. thirty five was meant to be the ultimate aircraft the swiss army knife a fighter jets ready and equipped for everything the project has been years in the making worked on by the brightest minds from all over the globe and has cost billions and billions of dollars.
4:17 pm
bucks all summer right well the creation of this jack of all trades plane has been a bumpy road the project has seen numerous drafts due to various issues including having the blueprints stolen at one point and the budget has expanded over time as well nearly doubling the initial figure thirty five program programs record of performance has been both a scandal and a tragedy that has experience issues with cost is going to become completely unaffordable aircraft deliveries amount to no more than a mere trickle relative to the original promises of the program what's going to happen with that airplane is going to die a slow when i get it isn't that so what is so great about the f. thirty five it must be perfect for air combat well now.

a short docu drama entitled forest brothers fight for the baltics they eight minute video is very well produced and it tells the tale of the forrest brothers and armed resistance in the baltic states of lithuania estonia and latvia that formed after world war two to fight for the independence of their states from the soviet the video includes interviews from survivors of that era so the video very clearly is presenting the story from the perspective of the armed resistance a surviving brother recounts his tale of being one of the couple dozen brothers who stage a bloody ambush of several hundred soviets in the forest the video shows a reenactment where soldiers move in slow motion as machine guns blasts loudly and heroic music swells to a climax a surviving villager recounts her tale of baking bread it for the armed resistance when she was only a child and she says that the brothers' biggest dream would have been to proudly show their guns in the open biggest tree which foreshadows where this video was
4:27 pm
going because after presenting a few more facts about the history of the brothers the video cuts to what has become of the forest brothers legacy the video explains that though the forest brothers seized their armed resistance in one nine hundred fifty three the legacy of a struggle by a small force overwhelming against. lives on today in the special forces units of all three countries and then the dramatize war era footage is replaced with real footage of these special forces today and they are a bunch of armed resistance fighters patrolling the same forests only now they're carrying around today's the first dictated automatic weapon the voice of the one the interview is distorted so that he can remain anonymous and all the fighters are masked they are a well organized bunch of armed anonymous people training to fight from behind enemy territory they say the video doesn't clarify who the enemy might be as these
4:28 pm
countries have been independent for more than twenty five years but still these math fighters are training in the forest every day and while the real footage of the masked armed fighters is rolling in the same heroic the music is playing underneath so whether you see nato as a global as tool or a keeper of world peace is really up to you but the organization is very clearly promoting the idea of armed insurgency with this new video and you can check it out for yourself on their you tube channel.
