so much parking all around the world all the world's a stage and we are definitely a player. on the news tonight vice president mike pence provides the time breaking vote as the senate moves to bring its health care bill to the floor for debate. and the president doubles down on his criticism and openly admits to his disappointment in attorney general jeff sessions and jared pushcart testifies today as the senate judiciary committee subpoenas paul manner for open testimony on wednesday i'm reporting tonight from the r t do screw this is the news on our team america. good evening friends we start tonight with the ongoing health care battle in the
11:01 pm
u.s. senate the senate voted today fifty one to fifty to move their health care bill to the floor for debate vice president mike pence provided the tie breaking vote before the vote republican leaders emphasized the need to take the first steps towards repealing obamacare the democrats meanwhile criticized the vote is the first step in destroying health care for millions of americans will be everyone will seize the moment certainly well only then can we open up a robust debate process only then will senators have the opportunity to offer additional ideas on health care and action will do nothing obamacare has problems or bring relief because those who need it in fact it will make things worse for our constituents all across the country a vote in favor of the motion to proceed. it will mean deep cuts to medicaid maybe
11:02 pm
even deeper than in the house bill it will mean people with preexisting conditions will be left high and dry up it will mean huge tax breaks for the wealthiest of americans it will mean millions will lose their coverage the vote on health care was overshadowed by the return of senator john mccain to the floor after being diagnosed with brain cancer last week senator mccain arrived at the senate chamber to a standing ovation from his colleagues and spoke briefly about process for more on all of this we're joined tonight by our political panel for the evening read bellman partner at the best storm group in ted harvey chairman for the committee to defend the president gentlemen nice to have you with us tonight this is going to be a very heated debate and process for the united states senate and john mccain's return a lot of talk about the what the vice president did today but had mccain not come
11:03 pm
back they would not have been able to do this vote but looking at this and i want to put this in historical perspective back when the democrats got obamacare it was ted kennedy brad baumann who is the key player for the democrats this time they got to sell the country that this is a bad bill of goods your thoughts so i think that everybody needs to do their part every single democrat needs to step up to the plate and every single democrat needs to go to the american people and explain to them right now that this is a life and death matter that twenty two million americans are going to lose health insurance and many will die because of what we've seen happen today and what we will be seeing happen in two after the next reset after this recess period it is just absolutely disgusting ted life or death matter do you see it that way millions of americans under this plan will lose their health insurance your thoughts. well i don't believe that millions of people were dying in the streets
11:04 pm
eight years ago prior to obamacare being passing you probably didn't go into the story ted i'm sorry did i interrupt you i'm sorry i was so you deserve to be interrupted right now i'm sure you're really right now i'm sure you're just absolutely i am thrilled the majority of the lead later when i says it's on the house republicans in the senate read a republican president under the promise that they would repeal obamacare because it is a disaster for the american people and that is why the the republicans in the house and the republicans in the senate are doing what they promised the american people is that they would give health care to americans at affordable price that they could pick their doctors and they could take their insurance and it and you and the democrats have destroyed that your president does that this sastre this country let's get that straight right now if you're really is that it really i believe he is fulfilling every promise that he gave to the americans your last hit he sure has
11:05 pm
just pointed and he told us exactly what do you ask him to do it he had to wing it . people right gentlemen let me let's get to this let's talk to if we may ted ted let's talk about the politics of this will the republicans line up in the end and get this done because it seems like the democrats are going to close the ranks on this nobody's going to budge so can through the reconciliation project processes that is their pathway here will they line up will they get it done and what happens if they don't. well they republic the american people gave the republicans the greatest majority since one nine hundred twenty eight with the promise that they would repeal obamacare and if they don't repeal obamacare there is going to be held to pay in two thousand and eighteen and two thousand and twenty and we have a couple republicans that are say to that voted today that they wouldn't vote even to have a debate on this and they're saying that they're not going to vote for
11:06 pm
a repeal that is a significant problem but hopefully we can keep it to just those two so that we can bring the vice president back in to be the. tiebreaker on the vote and be able to repeal obamacare and bring back sanity to the american health care system. ted and brad garrett thought and you know brett i want to i want to know your thoughts on these threats that president trump is making towards republican senators if they don't line up will that have an impact oh i'm sure i think it will have an impact and i think that most republicans are going to fall in line because let's be clear guys like ted guys like the president they hate twenty two million americans straight up why do you hate people we haled by socialized medicine or you don't there's a vast social like you have anything and all are all still should remain is don't have a teddy in charities or hollywood film or by any sure it is on buying insurance one day and we see how he people and why do i really want to quit why don't they have
11:07 pm
a right to health have their ten insurance why would you. make the final straw in here at all i'm a journalist when i was going on there prior to obamacare that hyperbole is why the democrats are losing across the board they've lost your governorships model saying maybe that later that the november they've lost the house and the flaws are in it and i don't want president for the final going left wing radical play going down that is offending people. all right ted let me ask you this you're right about the president winning the election and the way he won it with a big majority but recent polls show that obamacare outpolls in popularity and in favor with the american people that what the republicans have got on the table both in the house and the senate what does that mean if anything i disagree the committing to defend the president did a poll last week that was done with a bipartisan organization very well respected organization and the policies in the
11:08 pm
agenda that the president is pushing is supported by a plurality of the voters that were involved in that poll ok you go down the list gentlemen we got to leave it there we've got to leave with their us and his agenda it's only the left wing media there is trying to bring him down with fake news or better lie about a river rushing notably an error it will have to leave it there brad harvey and gentlemen thanks for the heated debate here tonight i appreciate it very much we'll do it again the president continued his twitter assault on attorney general jeff sessions today calling his position on hillary clinton weak paul ryan did not comment on the president's remarks but did affirm the president's prerogative to choose his personnel the president gets to decide what his personnel is you all know that that's his that he's the executive branch for the legislative branch he discernments who is hired and fired in the executive branch that's his prerogative if he has concerns or questions or problems with the attorney general i'm sure
11:09 pm
he'll bring them up with him and him self now the president has doubled down on his criticism of the attorney general at a press conference with the lebanese president today president from left sessions future of the balance and said the administration is wide open to a change i am disappointed in the attorney general. he should not have recused himself. almost immediately after he took office and if he was going to recuse himself he should have told me prior to taking office and i would have quite simply pick somebody else so i think that's a bad thing not for the president but for the presidency i think it's unfair to the presidency and that's the way i feel the president also took old pot shots at president obama and the middle east for a lackluster results and involvement in the syrian civil war. times when president obama drew the red line in the sand and then he should have crossed that red line
11:10 pm
because some horrible acts against humanity took place including gas and the killing through gases. that was a bad day for this country and i'd go a step further that had president obama gone across that line and done what he should have done i don't believe you'd have russia and i don't believe you'd have iran to anywhere near the extent and maybe not at all in syria today. for more on all of this we're joined tonight by conservative commentator and writer doug waite mr wade great to have you with us tonight you know you've written a lot about donald trump his administration his mission but no one seems to be able to understand the logic for the trashing that he is giving the attorney general what do you make of it you know i worked on senior staff in the white house and
11:11 pm
we were able to get people to resign you just call them in and say hey the president wants you to go and they resign so this is a little bit different but donald trump's an unconventional president he's a businessman not a politician and i was one of the first students of history to comparing day andrew jackson and boy this is a great example andrew jackson had a running feud with his own cabinet and that was the beginning of what was called the kitchen cabinet he brought in a senator at the back of the white house near where the kitchen was and two editors of newspapers and some other politicians one of his own secretaries and they became his kitchen cabinet ever since then we've talked about presidents having an official advisors but there you go. are you are you suggesting that's where the trump administration is headed well i'm just saying i was irritated today you know
11:12 pm
this history deprived world we live in to hear all of these anchors on television saying this is unprecedented it's never happened before yes it's happened before in fact in andrew jackson's feud with the u.s. senate they censured him and they also blocked one of his cabinet appointments so who knows where this will go but it's obvious that trump wants an aggressive attorney general who will go after hillary clinton to bring some balance to what's happening to him well. that's a very interesting point because the question is is trump using sessions as somewhat of a whipping post to prove a point of unfairness when it comes to investigations does he really want hillary clinton investigated after saying that he wasn't going to push for that previously after the election but now here we are he's bad it is a g. for not going after clinton what about that yes because things have changed he thought if he'd forgive the clintons the democrats would forgive him instead he's
11:13 pm
now in a position where if he doesn't go after them for doing it for the things they did they're not going to stop going after him for the things that he didn't do i mean there's hillary clinton you never see this discussed on t.v. her deal with the university where a school called the university two million dollars to the clinton foundation and they become a silicone valley of russia in return never hear it discussed so of course it's frustrating to him he expects that attorney general to be aggressively without him tell me what to do what's going to happen do you think sessions will resign and what if he does it i think he'll resign i think he he it's reached the point that he'll understand and he'll know he's been very loyal i think it's bad for donald trump because loyalties a two way street it's not looking good for him but he is a disruptive force that's why the american people picked him selected him they want to in the corruption and they want someone who will break the dishes and turn over
11:14 pm
the tables and he's doing it ok doug weight always a pleasure with us tonight appreciate it very much a day after his first public statement on russia trump connections jared kushner testified in front of the house intelligence committee or was questioned for over three hours at a closed door meeting congressmen from both sides of the aisle seem satisfied with posters conduct in the meeting. and i'm going to be straightforward and forthcoming i want to answer every question that we had and is willing to follow up on the questions that we think of later that we didn't get asked this morning and thank him for his. way conduct himself this morning a very professional matters started to my colleague from california he was chairman we had a good opportunity to ask mr kushner questions this morning he expressed his counsel receptivity to coming back for further questions. but it was
11:15 pm
a very productive session and we had an opportunity to ask about a range of issues that the committee has been concerned about and we appreciate his voluntary willingness to come and testify today. meanwhile president trump's former campaign chairman paul banner for it has been subpoenaed by the senate judiciary committee to a public testimony on wednesday matter for it met behind closed doors today with the senate intelligence committee for more on what all this means for this unfolding investigation we're joined tonight by a former cia agent jack rice and practicing attorney jack great to have you on tonight on this subject if jared kirshner goes through this clean does the investigation start to lose in the arena of public opinion now if there's a smoking gun this has been good these investigations been going on for a year i mean they've got to get to the smoking gun pretty quickly to to win in the arena of public opinion and the sound bite that you just heard from adam schiff
11:16 pm
he's been on cable more than any other lawmaker just rang a tang in about this russia alleged connection we're are we after day one as you say it. moyle lot of really good questions there ed because you're right what we're looking for right now is what it is that he said and what it means it's not just what he did it's frankly what all the people around him are doing because obviously this was also about the meeting that took place with donald trump jr what man of ford was doing man of ford's going to be testifying this week as well so it's about what was going on around him i think what's really driving this however in the end is still going to be the investigation of bob mueller because this is about something much bigger than just one meeting it's multiple things that are going on not necessarily just what cushier did but i mean if he did a good job himself that may pull his feet from the fire a bit which may slow the investigation down to some degree how hard is it to do an investigation if you're not funny the following the money trail i mean if there is
11:17 pm
no money trail here and it would be conventional wisdom would tell us as do consumers that somebody on capitol hill would have been squawking about money if it was there by now where does this does this make it easier or harder to do the investigation. you know actually ed i think you bring up a magnificent point here the money trail and i think that is the one thing that donald trump himself said was the red line this was about the investigation itself and whether or not bob mueller was going to take us than into his actual business practices and what was going on but the reality is that bob mueller has the right the capability to expand this investigation and to take it wherever it is that he sees it and if there are conflicts of interest if there are benefits if there are things that the president potentially may have received in this case you could see bob mueller go down that path and so that's one of the issues that has to be looked at who benefits from this and why it's not just about the fact that the russians
11:18 pm
were involved and they were the question is is whether or not the president and his advisors were conspicuous spy ring with the russians to do this and now it's why i think that money trail is critically important and i think that's also why the president at this point has really been very very critical of a lot of people and seemingly not wanting them to go down that path i'm not suggesting that that's the reason but it certainly makes people scratch their heads so does this help the president he has been on offense and so far there is nothing other than allegations and no proof so your thoughts on the political ramifications of this. if we look at where we are right now this is getting harder and harder i was listening to your last guest as he was talking about this issue and my concern right now watching this and i'm thinking about this is a former prosecutor as well is that when you look at what conspiracy is conspiracy
11:19 pm
is essentially those getting in the way trying to stop an investigation either while it's going on or even after the fact after a potential crime might have been committed even if there wasn't a crime but you're stopping the investigation itself what we know for sure at this point is that president trump fired jim comey because of russia he said so he's also said the reason he's unhappy with sessions is for the very same reason that ties into this issue so in fact it seems to be getting harder not colder. all right jack royce always great to have you with us appreciate your time tonight the house passed a bill today to impose new sanctions on russia iran and north korea the bill has been criticized by the white house however as a way to limit the president's ability to live sanctions military and joins us tonight for more details on this but no that's right ed and it's not only critics domestically either u.s. allies in the e.u. are pretty unhappy about this move as well the european commission is preparing to
11:20 pm
retaliate against these new sanctions imposed by the united states because these increased russia sanctions will adversely affect e.u. companies such as the north stream two project valued at more than eleven billion dollars it's a pipeline that will carry nat gas from the russian federation into germany the new sanctions will fine companies that they deem to be aiding russia now the toughening of existing sanctions on russia stem from punishing the federation for its alleged two thousand and sixteen u.s. election meddling though russia and vladimir putin himself have denied the claims of interference along with russia iran and north korea are also being sanctioned as punishment for their missile and weapons development programs now in these new sanctions the house has included language that will tie the president's hands the new legislation requires the executive branch to get a resolution of approval from congress before any changes to those sanctions can be
11:21 pm
made this is a very significant move to restrict president trump powers by members of his own party since right now republicans control both houses earlier are two spoke with daniel mcadams from the ron paul institute about what this means for the trump presidency. if he does not veto this bill that it will absolutely show that he does not wish to govern this country he does not wish to exercise his constitutional prerogatives when it comes to foreign policy the presidents often go out and seek additional power for themselves they grab more power than they deserve according to the constitution but when it comes to issues like this the president does have leeway congress is role is really limited to appropriations of money for these things so the idea that you tie the president's hands on a matter like these sanctions is really i think probably an unprecedented situation mcadams also brought up a good point today saying that the house passing these new sanctions is premature
11:22 pm
since the n.s.a. . and i and other three letter agencies have failed to produce concrete evidence to prove interference and that passing this bill is like sentencing someone before having a trial so not only is this new bill creating conflict among allies but it's also forcing the president into a very tough spot of having to either accept these bills as they come or veto and reject them and tyrolese so this takes away from any ability for negotiations between the executive and legislative branches like we've seen in years past at. he is no doubt it's going to certainly heighten the tensions between the united states and germany thanks monella turkey has signed a deal with russia for a new surface to air missile defense system the s four hundred is capable of shooting down moving targets early two hundred fifty miles away but turkey's dado allies don't seem very happy about the deal artie's jacqueline wagner explains
11:23 pm
tonight well rumors had already started flying about the deal this past weekend and at that point a top u.s. military official denied the reports but also added that if they did turn out to be true it would be cause for concern and the u.s. department of defense spokes person also called for turkey to account for the possible purchase. taiki is a nato ally and one of the cornerstone things that we'd like to have with any info and lights is the ability to have equipments that into operates the reports of the as four hundred and taking pictures of that so he would need to explain that for itself now for his part everyone is bewildered by those supposed concerns coming from the us questioning why america would object to turkey simply taking the necessary steps to secure itself or guard list of its status as a nato member stadium using your poem why should this be a concern each country should take certain measures to ensure its security which of the scientists can ensure these measures it takes the necessary steps how many
11:24 pm
times has we talked with america but it didn't work out so like it or not we began to make plans about the s four hundred our interests department's a negotiating and this step will be taken and this isn't the first time we've seen the u.s. try to dissuade turkey from purchasing weapons from competitors a few years ago when ankara decided to co-produce the missile defense system with china washington warned that the manufacture was under sanctions and suggested that turkey could be caught in the crossfire of those measures as well now that deal was eventually scrapped but it seems this time turkey is determined to go ahead this fight objections from its close nato ally. a u.s. navy ship fired several warning shots at an iranian vessel the persian gulf early this morning the iranian ship came within one hundred fifty yards of the u.s.s. thunderbolt the navy ship issued radio calls fired flares and sounded the ship's whistle before firing warning shots the vessel was accompanied by several u.s.
11:25 pm
coast guard boats u.s. naval forces central command confirmed the iranian ship was from the country's islamic revolutionary guard corps this is the first such incident since president has taken office an underwater robot has captured images of what appears to be melted nuclear fuel in these submerged reactor at the fukushima power plant artie's alex my holiday chose the story tonight. so a robot named little sunfish could be the savior of the moment to a certain degree tepco the company that runs the fukushima reactors which melted down back in two thousand and eleven after that earthquake and tsunami hit the coast of japan well they're saying that there's a good chance that this little robot found it and took pictures of fuel rods so radioactive fuel rods in reactor three this means that someplace down the road they'll be able to get these fuel rods out of there since they know the location of
11:26 pm
them so this is one batch that they found it's a pretty important you know for to hold the camera at the decontamination effort if you look in the long run but through kachina is still fukushima if you look at two hundred thousand people to loot leave their homes some numbers go as high as six hundred plus people died of related incidents with because she's a bit stressed be other illnesses still the line is that radiation hasn't killed anyone but if you look at many sources including just the japan times well they're saying they're starting to see people get cancer from the radiation in fukushima itself we know that it's still highly contaminated that area we know that robots i've been sent to the reactors before never came back just because of the level of radiation so this whole area and now this new effort they're hoping that it could move forward and actually come to something that there could be a solution but folks if you think this is going to happen very unlikely if anything
11:27 pm
happens the efforts going to start in two thousand and twenty one and it might take forty years to decommission the reactors in fukushima there's never been a story out there saying that this thing's not leaking so it's probably still leaking into the pacific ocean we know that there's hundreds of thousands of of leaders of water contaminated water that there were tons i should say hundreds of thousands of tons of water that was supposed to be dumped just a week ago into the pacific ocean of contaminated water that didn't happen due to an outcry from. the fishing industry in japan but they're going to reinvestigate that next and now coming up in september and that still might go down so any way you look at it through because she might some people say it's so you know the second worst nuclear disaster after chernobyl others say del this is the worst and this thing is still going on six years after the disaster even little robots can solve everything back to you. and that is our news tonight follow me on twitter at news with ed like me on the facebook page we got it dot com i'm michel martin from
11:28 pm
the r.t.e. newsroom tonight thanks for watching the super record or. i'm going to do just that you're watching our. i think the average viewer just after watching a couple of segments understands that we're telling stories that are critics can't tell and you know why because their advertisers won't let them. in order to create change you have to be honest you have to tell the truth parties able to do that
11:29 pm
every story is built on going after the back story to what's really happening out there to the american public what's happening when a corporation makes a pharmaceutical chills people when a company in the environmental business ends up polluting a river that causes cancer and other illnesses they put all the health risk all the dangers out to the american public those are stories that we tell every week and you know what they're working. van jones is certainly no stranger to controversial statements but few can say he doesn't provoke thought and he's my guest on this edition of politic.
11:30 pm
politic and on larry king you know van jones is sometimes in the news for controversial statements on the air an awful often what he says leads to deeper discussions between conservatives for aggressives and even those who don't know if i as either identify as either he formerly served as president barack obama's green jobs adviser he's a new york times best selling author political commentator and president of the dream corps his latest venture is we rise turris launches this week that initiative will be fueled by something he calls the love army will find out what he means by that later in the program van jones joins me here on set ok before we get to your fabulous new idea tell me your assessment of trump six months in as expected better worse i think that donald trump has done worse than i.
