that and it's well and needs dialogue needs negotiations needs to find some solution to this crisis it doesn't need a continued hardening of the positions that we've seen from both the government and the opposition the reality is that people did vote yesterday and people can contest it but the reality is that throughout the country we saw a significant voter turnout and there was support for a constituent assembly undoubtedly it does not represent the entire country it didn't in one thousand nine hundred nine when with similar results of forty percent were used to revise the constitution in one thousand nine hundred nine but it does speak to the fact that you have these two important segments of the national instance they need to find ways to broach the divide and to find common ground to begin to resolve the serious economic problems political problems of the country faces does not vote to turn on don't tell is a big part of the problem though forty one percent voted. to just an even bolder

role for whatever reason can the president really claim a victory not a situation. he can claim a victory it has limitations for many will it will ring hollow the reality is that it did not represent the entire country but again it's very difficult to find a scenario in which any of these votes either the opposition's plebiscite on july sixteenth or the government's election this time actually speaks for the entire country i think what it speaks to is that there's an entire middle in the country that is that is not represented by either the opposition or by the government and would like to find some way of resolving this crisis that does not involve violence the dislocation of the economy and constant upheaval of their daily lives what do you think is the root of the violence that we're seeing that been reports the police used excessive force against protesters they have responded violently themselves have been fatalities on both sides the protesters will say well how are we expected to respond if we are attacked violently by the authorities. but again

this is not a opposition that is engaged in dog whistle politics on the one and it says this march is or peaceful on the other hand that was an improvised device yesterday that was used to detonate in front of the police as they were going by so that was what you would find in iraq or in afghanistan that's not a peaceful way of protesting like why is the government must respect the right of people to protest in the in if it's peaceful and its aims are to provide a context for that protest the reality is we need to bring some context by which the tensions can be brought down you can't continue to expect to resolve the crisis after one hundred ten days through simple protest there must be other mechanisms there must be dialogue particularly in the seventy two hour period we have now between the election yet sunday and the convening of a constituent assembly on wednesday it's an opportunity to engage in conversation and dialogue and to try to find some way to broach that divide. u.s.
