donald trump threatens north korea with fire and fury and stresses the strength of america's nuclear arsenal pyongyang warns it may strike the u.s. pacific territory of guar. also this hour french authorities arrest the main suspect in a car ramming attack on a group of soldiers who pirates anti terror police are investigating and decisions in poland criticizing its diversity policy sparks a free speech but he does get a job offer from wiki leaks.
10:01 am
so i welcome just turned five o'clock in the afternoon here in moscow he watching r.t. international. tensions between north korea and the us president trump has emphasized the strength of america's nuclear arsenal he said he will move to renovate modernize the usas weapons adding that america will never be overtaken as the world superpower the earlier president gave a strong warning to north korea's leader pyongyang then threatened to strike the u.s. pacific territory of kuat. make it work ranch to the united states. they will be met with fire fury. like the world has never seen before trying to make that rather explosive statement while the washington post actually published an article claiming that their reporters have read this latest u.s. defense report which says that north korea has managed to build these small nuclear
10:02 am
warheads a small enough to fit inside missiles so rather alarming information but this washington post article well they did not present any sort of evidence to prove how they managed to get their hands on this on this document and despite that the story's been picked up by the american mainstream media has been widely reported and here's a sample of what those reports are like confirming a u.s. intelligence assessment on north korea that was first reported by the washington post earlier today in the assessment is that north korea now has a weapon a nuclear weapon that is small enough to fit on a missile u.s. intelligence analysts believe the north could now produce a miniaturized nuclear warhead that can fit inside its missile and north korea become a full fledged nuclear power it may have crossed a key threshold something the world has been fearing for years the north has successfully developed many nuclear warheads on top of this washington post article things to a boiling point on choose day when the u.s. flew to b. one b. bombers over guam with its allies in japan and south korea and after that drill
10:03 am
while the president made that statement saying that he's respond to threats from north korea with fire and theory and that prompted pyongyang to release a statement saying that they are considering striking the u.s. base in guam now bear in mind that is true i mean throughout the years and also this year alone north korea has conducted numerous missile tests which angered the international community but at the same time the u.s. is also increasing its military presence significantly in the region we're talking about sending an air carrier is conducting regular military drills setting and troops and also fighter jets to the region and in terms of rhetoric while president obama has long been quite aggressive towards north korea and some would even go as far as saying that he's been provoked here's a sample of have the u.s. officials have commented on north korea in the past the year of strategic patience . with the north korean regime has failed many years that it's failed united states is prepared to use the full range of our capabilities to
10:04 am
defend ourselves and our allies one of our capabilities lies with our considerable military forces this is a little of pure should nation if you compare it to our capabilities they don't come near to being even close to. all the chance that we could and. having a major major conflict with north korea. absolutely tensions are higher than ever as gone way beyond just a war of words china and russia have been calling on all sides to remain calm and to seek a political solution to all of this and meanwhile australia and new zealand who are countries that are countries in the asia pacific region also u.s. allies and they could suffer greatly if a conflict is to break out on the korean peninsula they have also come out to weigh in on what they thought about trump's latest statement because i think the comments are not helpful and informants during chains everyone wants to avoid military confrontation the global community led by the security council including trauner in
10:05 am
russia how are all united in seeking to bring the maximum economic pressure on north korea to bring them to their senses without conflict have to wait and see whether trump will take their advice but certainly the escalating tensions on the korean peninsula has got a lot of people worried and many see their will trumps words have also been condemned by u.s. lawmakers congressman eliot engel has called the latest remarks reckless he says that trump is undermining america's security and put it and he's putting his allies in danger too we got reaction from a number of analysts and they too believe that the u.s. president is taking huge risks my ratcheting up the tension. what this can't be is an ego fight and right now what it felt like was a fight between trump on one side and kim on the other and to see who could make more outlandish statements and the fear is that if somebody flinch if somebody screws up there could be hundreds of thousands of dead people here this is
10:06 am
a very real fight this is shockingly dangerous and the last thing we need to do is stand on it start bumping chests and talk about who's the bigger man i think president trumps rhetoric calling for war and calling for destruction calling for unprecedented fire and fear is the wrong message to say by the u.s. president of his time and this is definitely the wrong thing to do. now french authorities have arrested a man suspected of planning a car into a group of soldiers in the north of paris this morning six were injured two seriously as a result of the incident suspect who was driving a black b.m.w. was detained on a motorway being chased by police with more details is shot it depends it's being confirmed that the man arrested on a new than highway in france between bologna and cali is the suspect that police have been searching for he was arrested by elite forces and we understand that he
10:07 am
was shot five times during that arrest and a police officer was also injured as they tried to apprehend a man he was the person who they believe was behind the attacks which took place just a few hundred meters behind me at the opening of a soldier's barracks it's around quarter past eight local time in paris this morning the local mayor has described this as a deliberate act and said this is what he saw take place. there were a dozen officers at the entrance at seven fifty seven in the morning when a car which was parked at the end of the road rammed into the mid speed while they were approaching their vehicle. they did not choose the location by jobs there are many police offices and the cameras are everywhere on the video we can see the attacker and how the attack took place the place is symbolic just as the eiffel tower or perish airport or not they came to this town where anti terrorist forces are doing their remarkable job. paris prosecution office has opened an
10:08 am
investigation into this case and they are pursuing charges of attempted murder of security forces in connection with a terrorist and to price now one of the reasons why it's been suggested that this place may have been strategically chosen is because it's where the main intelligence agency and it's also a staging point for soldiers who were assigned to protect from that site in paris. now paris is no stranger to attacks it's been under a state of emergency for the whole of france has been under a state of emergency since november two thousand and fifteen when there were those
10:09 am
coordinated attacks here in the city and since then frances seen a number of large scale terror attacks the president mcauliffe has said that one of his aims in his first year the presidency is to move that state of emergency by november of this year whether that's plausible or not remains to be seen whether charlotte was saying their french curity forces have been the target of a number of terror attacks this year. it was a little. bit. and we
10:10 am
can discuss this further now with chris hunter he's a former u.k. army intelligence officer and he's with us this afternoon good eat good afternoon chris good afternoon good news this main suspect has been arrested but do you think it was a surprise he wasn't challenge before this attack given that it appears he was lying in wait for a few hours before he hit the target i'm surprised actually yes obviously trying to find a terrorist in a place like france or indeed anywhere in europe at the moments i've heard the united states like trying to find a needle in a haystack full of needles it is difficult to find them but there are certain basic day one week one procedures that security forces should implements and protective security such as looking out for hostile reconnaissance people actually the record of these sites such as security force bases and military bases you know they should be looking for patterns they should be looking out for people who are carrying out
10:11 am
recognise and indeed waiting there you know to carry out attacks so it is a little bit surprising but it's just you know we're all thankful that you know there weren't any fatalities sure and the fact that he seemed to drive away so easily to the number of hours before he was caught is that something that she cutie forces will be looking at. yeah i mean i think you know one of the other features about this in this particular attack is that it took place during a shift change over. around eight o'clock paris time and you know that's one of the other things that terrorists look look for when they're carrying out hostile reconnaissance they're looking for patterns they're looking for vulnerabilities they're looking for you know cameras security forces the the weapons that equipment carried by the security forces by their own vulnerabilities if you like but certainly something like a shift change over where people aren't potentially as alert as they might be or where briefings are taking place you know that something is being carried out by criminals and terrorists across the world in the past so again you know it shows
10:12 am
that perhaps there's been a little bit of complacency taking place but they certainly should have you know some form of council valence certainly some form of back watch and certainly some form of heightened security during those shift change over patterns those are lessons that certainly the british learned in northern ireland during the troubles and you know that was day one week one stuff for us sure and in terms of a wider response from the authorities is there any more they can do given the sort of heightened state of alert the country has been in since twenty fifteen anyway. i think it's very very difficult to do anymore for these type of attacks we've seen repeated calls for vehicle jihad as they call it from both isis and al-qaeda on online forums on their own magazines and publications videos just last week we saw calls for this type of attack. you know it's very very difficult to prevent either you know the lone radicals from being radicalized from individuals who are
10:13 am
being radicalized in universities and mosques and of course those people that are you know being trained recruited and returning from. al-qaeda territories but there are certain things that can be done certainly looking it's not setting patterns by the security forces that's one looking at putting in protective security measures council valence you know during those sort of vulnerable periods or vulnerable locations that's another and certainly education and training of the general public i think is something that's woefully inadequate across europe and i think a lot more can be done to make the public aware of terrorist tactics techniques and procedures because i think people do want to know how they should acts you know what to identify and and how to report it sure ok crysler we'll have to wrap it up there we went out of time but good to get your thoughts this afternoon that was that chris hunter former u.k. army intelligence officer thank you. i would he lead his offering

a job to a google engineer who sacked a war he was sacked over an internal corporate memo the web giant's move has sparked a debate over free speech in corporations weekly senator keenness own she keys google of censorship and tweeted that it's not fair to fire employees for freely expressing their thoughts engineer james to moore was fired after sending a memo criticizing google's diversity policies his bosses say that breached their code of conduct kill moppin as more. in corporate boardrooms across america the buzz word is meritocracy ideology isn't supposed to matter employees are supposed to be hired judged and promoted based on their skills and ability however the high tech firm known as google seems to be straying from this free market ideal and now employees can be fired if they step away from the liberal social justice party line they recently fired an employee and sent out this memo portions of the memo violate
10:15 am
our code of conduct and crossed the line by advancing harmful gender stereotypes in our workplace so what is it that he said what stereotypes was he promoting well here are the fatal words i'm simply stating that the distribution of preferences and abilities of men and women differ in poets used to biological causes and that these differences may explain why we don't see equal representation of women in tech and leadership now those are fighting words as far as some people are concerned and the guy is not going to win any popularity contests to be fair by having a top employee make comments like this google open itself up to the danger of lawsuits and allegations of discrimination in hiring but is there an ideological criteria for working at google let's take a look at where some of this thought crime logic leads. google won't fix john with unconscious bias training when they keep employing people who are proud of their conscious bias honestly if no one is fired over this google should just admit the
10:16 am
commitment to women is window dressing the article is publicly supported by many people internally begs the question how many privately supports agree or subscribe there are many people who google who share this guy's views they do pit performance reviews and interview people they discriminate yes the usa heralds itself as the land of the free and the home of the brave but on certain college campuses in silicon valley and in other parts of the country there's an atmosphere of brewing where if you have the wrong political opinions or cultural views there can be very harsh consequences. r.t. new york well it opposite ends of the spectrum legal analysts lidl and cheerless mike so an of each gave us their thoughts on the story. what kind of idiot would decide. google to basically slam diversity to refer to women in particular you know most of descriptions which might under some.
10:17 am
interpretation of human behavior might be considered valid but to others patently offensive what is google supposed to do this fellow who wrote the memo he will never work in a normal corporation or a big corporation ever again in america a what he staggered was basically one interpretation that women were inferior. based upon a variety of reasons and rationale which him i'm sure makes sense and by the way he may be now the darling of the right right the libertarian right whatever you want to call them the memo in fact most people reporting on it never read it the people criticizing it i read it it was quite sound quite sane it was temperate he even said that nothing in this memo means that we should respect everybody we should respect everybody and then google went around and fired him and showed him that the left does not respect anybody who has independent thought the problem is not that we don't understand what the problem is that this is
10:18 am
a sensitive to people what google then has to do is address the other workers as they were to me i must fended by this do you endorse this when you don't have actual evidence that your being the victim of sexism but you want to believe a victim and become a victim then you find evidence whether it's. you with. russian royals in the spotlight meeting with trump she gives us her thoughts on the scandal after the break.
10:19 am
according to.
10:20 am
the center of a collusion scandal with donald trump's team has been given giving more details about the pressures she faces from the president's opponents and the us media last month the tide of us and its guy was dragged into the rag over claims that russia into feed in the us election over a meeting with the president. we all know her name now and tell us about sky italia vessel in that sky natalya vessel needs sky natalia the sound of sky up natalia vessel night sky i. have to wake up one morning and find you know the focus all from all the high ranking up stream media. i don't know what if it turns out it was nothing well in an exclusive interview airing today they are not saying a tally of us and its guy has been speaking in depth about how she's been treated
10:21 am
by the mainstream media. my story has nothing to do with politics i did not really care who would be in power the republicans or democrats i do not care about how the situation is unfolding today mine was a human story it had nothing to do with politics i was really amazed at how the us media machine operates on july eighth the new york times sent me a request for comment they asked me to reply to a list of questions i was surprised by many questions relating to the trump jr meeting i was not even able to recall the exact date because it seemed like a passing meeting it did not lead anywhere there was no outcome i sent a detailed reply to the new york times and surprisingly in their post on july eighth they only published small extracts from my statement only what they needed now that same piece looks completely different on their website it has been fairly revised there is
10:22 am
a huge difference from the original article that was published on july eighth to me it looks like an orchestrated story the whole scandal over my meeting with donald trump jr has been carefully orchestrated and blown out of proportion we have come so close to the truth of how russian budget funds were stolen in that affair i just happened to be on the front line so to speak and i challenge mr brown to publicly he invented all of this he and nobody else he and his team set it all up it is extremely difficult to find a smarter media manipulator than bill browder well the man she mentioned their american financier bill browder emerged as a central player in the scandal between a tally of us and its. junior and even testified before a u.s. senate committee leaks state department e-mails reveal that browder had long been gathering information and personal details about this and its guy she believes he then ramped up his public vendetta after losing a lengthy court battle three months ago against
10:23 am
a russian known real estate firm in cyprus which she was representing he accused it of money laundering but the case was settled and the firm was cleared. but i think the broader himself is a pawn in someone's hands because this story has proven to be gold for so many it was gold five years ago when it made the very first russia sanctions act happened and it's gold now especially now is gold for the present day tabloids for politics and the mass media with its anti trump frenzy. but i would ask about top story now in the tensions between north korea and the u.s. with the country's leaders caught up in iraq words which some say could escalate the crisis we can get the views now of alice nevins she's an asia pacific senior mr allison thanks for coming on to our say this afternoon firstly what are your thoughts about trump's comments i think it was quite interesting that trump used the words fire and fury there
10:24 am
reminiscent of north korean rhetoric about raining down fire on seoul for example and i think that's part of the new temp by the u.s. administration to use north korean language. director of national intelligence says that north korea may have learned from libya perhaps that it should never give up its nuclear weapons do you think that's a fair point. yes i do i definitely think that the north korean leadership including supreme leader kim jong un has look to the examples of libya and iraq to see what happens the leaders when they gave up their nuclear weapons and particularly since july since last month when north korea tested two intercontinental ballistic missiles their leadership has taken a stronger stance against negotiations they've made it very clear that north korea's nuclear program is not on the negotiating table unless the u.s.
10:25 am
changes its stance against north korea the secretary of state rex tillerson has said that there's no imminent threat coming from prion yang and he might change his thoughts now after what they said about what what's your view how close are we to conflict. i think conflict on the korean peninsula is still unlikely because all of the actors can see what a devastating consequence there would be i think the problem around rex tillerson the secretary of state's comments for example is that other u.s. officials have said contrast things so even if to listen states that the u.s. is not seeking regime change when in particular u.s. president donald trump makes clear that any threats will be met with action and for example he took you know natural military action in syria from the north korean perspective they need to step up their threats as well and i think that's why north korea mentioned specifically whenever north korea gets more specific with its
10:26 am
language and with its threats in particular that's where we can look for something changing on the peninsula and in the past there have been violent incidents that have either injured or hurt south korean soldiers for example. at the moment everyone's concerned about the potential for a military conflict let's just talk about the diplomacy i mean one of the chance to finding a diplomatic solution. yes as i said i think in military there are no good military options here and diplomacy might be the only way to go and the problem with the rhetoric lately is that it sort of narrow soz options for a negotiated settlement but there are still possibilities for official or unofficial talks for example both u.s. and north korean officials were present in manila last week for the conference.
10:27 am
and in the past there have been compromises made by the u.s. for example on the annual joint exercises it carries out with the south korean military which is something that north korea perceives as a specific threat to its survival survival ok allison thanks for your thoughts today that was allison evans asia pacific senior analysts like you. that's how things look so far today here in our state will be back with more than thirty.
10:28 am
is it. about your sudden passing i've only just learned you worry yourself and taken your last wrong turn. caught up to you as we all knew it would i tell you i'm sorry
10:29 am
to cut so i write these last words in hopes to put to rest these things that i never got off my chest. i remember when we first met life turn on each. but that my feeling started to change you talked about or like it was a. view. to question our. promised. it said does not leave us the same as one enters mind gets consumed with this. speech because there are no other takers. claimed that mainstream media has met its maker.
