number of families contacted r.t. claiming that among the children we filmed that baghdad orphanage they recognize their loved ones their relatives among them is one woman who claims the little leave is her nephew she sent a picture and while it isn't definitive proof the resemblance is certainly shreiking she says that parents his mother and his father packed up one day and left claiming that they were going to moscow for work and taking the family they took the kids only to call later and say that they were in istanbul in turkey it was a while ago after that they are presumed to have crossed the border either into syria or into iraq and joined isis could you know you were a minute. long and if. you. can do something tell us you know if you.

8:07 am
fire and theory to the hermit kingdom amid global cost for the escalation. story breaks we the people that were course think that statement was too tough maybe it wasn't tough enough to want to read. this not make it work threats to the united states. they will be met with fire and fury. like the world just never see it's a very terrifying question what could possibly be more intense than fire and fury when trump was asked he just ominously responded with you'll see but it is clear that he has no plans to back down whatsoever so that is there it's a state that has nothing to do with there that's a state but now terms remarks are just the latest in a series of aggressive exchanges between the president n.p.r. netting but has escalated to the point of north korea's state media outlining a possible plan to attack the u.s. territory of guam
8:08 am
a threat that trump says kim jong own will not get away with and when the question was posed to the president if americans should be frightened by the current state of affairs trump said in fact the opposite is true that north korea should be the nervous party here if. north korea does anything in terms of even thinking about attack. of anybody that we love what we represent do our allies or us they could be very very nervous i'll tell you why they should be very diverse those things will happen to them like they never thought possible north korea better get their act together where they're going to be trouble like few days should ever have . trouble in this world now well term profuse a comment on whether the u.s. was considering a preemptive strike against pyongyang he spoke about the importance of the u.s. military and his plans to drastically beef up their defense budgets by quote many billions of dollars and this is all because of the threat posed by north korea and a strange twist while term spoke of strengthening america's arsenal he also warned
8:09 am
that nuclear power is the world's greatest threat stating that he would like to denuclearize the world yet on wednesday he tweeted about the us a strong and powerful nucular stockpile hinting that it could be used if necessary so while other nations are still pushing for a democratic resolution threats flying back and forth seem to be pushing the world closer and closer to the edge of war with possible nuclear implications however america's close allies britain and germany are calling on the u.s. president to deescalate tensions even at home trams also face opposition u.s. senator adam archies says trump's hostile rhetoric is the opposite of what's needed and could sleepwalk the country into war he also spoke to a former u.s. ambassador to the u.n. who says that such threats put trump on the saying level as north korea's leader i don't see the plus in these threats were we getting something in return from these president's threats i don't see it i've never seen the tension so high in the
8:10 am
korean peninsula i'm extremely concerned i hope the president's advisers rein him in general kelly you know the new chief of staff he's got to tell the president you can't conduct foreign policy the way you're doing with words with fiery words exchanges stooping to the level of kim june in the north koreans who generate this rhetoric almost every day but this rhetoric has gotten a lot more intense also from the north korean side. and china meanwhile has condemned the trump's fire and siri remarks beijing warned the u.s. president against playing with fire over north korea said any accidental spark could trigger a conflict what's more chinese state media reports the country will protect a north korean regime if the u.s. decides to strike first the possibility of military confrontation is causing a split among america's allies australia says it was stand shoulder to shoulder
8:11 am
with washington and new zealand says it's not ready to support any aggressive military action we stand for older to shoulder with the united states the anzus treaty means that if america has attacked we will come to their right if a stranger is attacked the americans will come to our right we are joined at the hip the american alliance is the bedrock of our national security commitment to an aggressive response now while encouraging all involved to avoid escalation is not a position we want to take. you now across live to international relations expert meyssan to discuss this further hi there sir thank you for joining us here on r.t. international so tram has just warned us when you believe are locked and loaded should north korea act unwisely every statement seems to raise the threat level do you think washington is gearing up for military action or is this just a president bluffing. i think it's there's obviously a very high chance that this is
8:12 am
a rhetorical battle in the sense that the u.s. would like to avoid need some kind of actual military action that includes even a surgical strike but i don't think you can completely rule out a very kind of limited pinpoint use of. the latest kind of technology there are various reasons for that although i think that will be considered as a last resort and i think you have to bear in mind that the u.s. is able to bluff in this game in one sense because they know that north korea's military options are highly limited so that does give them in one sense an advantage in this kind of strategic rhetorical game the many in the u.s. and around the world calling on trying to deescalate his rhetoric but he appears to be doing the exact opposite why do you think he's doing this. no i think there's again number of reasons for this one of which is partly just his personality i mean
8:13 am
he's conducted foreign policy from the front in a sense for a long time his rhetoric actually hasn't changed that much if you look back to interviews of trump before he became president his rhetoric towards north korea was actually quite consistent with what he's talking or the way in which he's talking now in response to those north korean plans for example to launch missiles near to guam so surprisingly perhaps in this case trump himself has been relatively consistent but one of the things which it does is put a kind of it marks the drum administration out from the previous three u.s. administrations which in their different way is all failed to prevent north korea from developing nuclear weapons and from then using those as a kind of powerful leverage tool in foreign policy both with their regional rivals and partners particularly in response to the u.s. so i think the trump administration and dropped in particular is looking to change
8:14 am
that dynamic so that policy can actually be shaped back towards the way in which the u.s. would like to have it move on the north korean or on the korean peninsula as a whole not new zealand and australia are u.s. allies in the pacific region biosecurity treated air goes back for fifty years so australia has said that it will stand shoulder to shoulder with washington but why is wellington now stepping away from this. well i think obviously there's a you have to look at the dynamic as a whole so you're looking at a regional security dynamic where some some of those actors are able to act more independently you know australia or new zealand don't although they have their own alliances and partnerships there's a kind of an ability for smaller partners within the group in some ways to voice their objections more strongly as opposed to those who are seen as tied in very closely to the pacific rim alliance and you have to remember that some of this is
8:15 am
also about sending messages to the other international actors so it's not necessarily actually all about north korea some of this is about demonstrating the renewed presence of the us in the region in response to for example the ongoing rise of china in response to the comparative advantage which china is gaining in the military arena if you like versus the the u.s. japan and australia so although china is still a long way behind in military terms it is catching up. the ability for the u.s. and its close allies to project this image of power across the korean peninsula on china's doorstep is something which is very important small alliance partners are less important in in demonstrating that so they're able to voice that somewhat different turns well thank you so much for sharing your insights with us now is international relations expert iran mason thank you sir. some of the smallest

possible details on expenses account have been exposed after a long fought battle and it's first class all the way for those in brussels that story and more coming your way after a short break. in case you're new to the game this is how it works not the economy is built around corporate corporations from washington to washington post media the media. and voters elected a businessman to run this country business equals power you must it's not business as usual it's business like it's never been done before.
8:17 am
most people think just stand out in this business you need to be the first one on top of the story or the person with the loudest voice of the biggest raid in truth to stand down to lose business you just need to ask the right questions and demand the right answer. questions. welcome back to the program habitats and lavish hotels are not just a reserved for of the rich and famous these days now they release details cover in just the first two months of twenty sixteen show e.u. commissioner has racked up hefty bills on foreign johns where the tabs as usual left to be picked up by taxpayers.
8:18 am
it's visits to observe by john the first visits to your country to our meetings to come to with foreign minister discussion good discussions on a range of issues a wide range of issues and also talked a lot. of european commission presiding over is not a group of technocrats but it's composed of politicians this is not a commission that would promote the virtues of a foolish and blowing policy with steroids. but it's not only about the money. even if. he doesn't. it doesn't play
8:19 am
a minor role. the lavish lifestyles of e.u. officials were only exposed after campaigners waged a three year battle over the release of travel expense records we spoke to the spanish transparency ngo access info which first obtained the documents but they say they've only scratched the surface hundred twenty requests made freedom of information access to documents requests was actually for the whole year of twenty six thing however the commission decided unilaterally to only release information at this point for january and february twenty sixth they felt that it was an advantage to do and it was disproportionate to release information for the whole year now that doesn't seem to make sense given that they also have this information passed on to the auditor's and to the parliament so if the data is already collected and is made available to those. institutions then why can't it be made public more generally. and he was spokes person is defined at the travel expenses
8:20 am
spec critics say sometimes it's difficult to see where there is value for money the the european commission we and unlike national government don't own any airplanes and do not have the fix that they do therefore it's just our own plane that's why we have to guard the. needs whenever there is no other the stability oh that in for in a commercial flight would not be viable because of then the constraint of the petition or because of security ridden often really people tell me these expensive trips and then they just come out with fairly innocuous statements at the end of them that they really achieve much less the company benefits from face to face meetings or so you know it's good that there is a focus on those problems in armenia and azerbaijan but really the hasn't been much progress for a long time now given they are spending taxpayers' money they ought to try and get those places as cheaply as possible within reason and if you look at for example
8:21 am
it's a mr young because troops have arrived there are several direct flights from brussels to right every single day on a normal schedule their lives so why couldn't they have gone on those normal slice instead of booking this private jet. a german journalist has found herself making the news as opposed to reporting on it that's after she claimed in an interview german media is biased towards the government and its coverage of the refugee crisis claudia simmons said journalists are instructed to report in a pro-government way when it comes to the migrant crisis adding that they are compelled to cover the issue in a positive light the revelation was made back in january twenty sixth seen during an interview about the cologne sex attacks that she gave to a dutch radio station it's a topic zimmerman has covered extensively our sister channel r.t. torch spoke exclusively to the journalist in the middle of the controversy. journalists tend to support chancellor merkel's refugee policy throughout the media not just at the chain. annele i work for some journalists including me trying to
8:22 am
pitch more critical stories but they were not approved that's why i spoke out stories that failed to welcome or support this policy are being blocked honestly at first i did not understand the situation the whole situation that occurred because of this as a channel stated there was a lot of damage in a public field i cooperated and did everything possible to minimize the damage to the w d r t.v. channel i'm officially not fired just don't approve my pitches my stories haven't changed yet but it suddenly turned out there i'm not trustworthy anymore. i report published in june this year a claim to media outlets are closing their eyes to the concerns of fears of the german population with a card to the country's migration policy claudia summer and claims there are topics journalists want to cover but are simply not allowed to. i would wish to many more colleagues there to do more critical coverage the pressure comes from to top down i
8:23 am
know from some colleagues that there are certain topics which they would like to cover but these topics were not approved because they were too critical because they don't fit to forment of the program i think it's significant it would be significant for journalism in germany. wildfires in italy have torn their way through with thousands of actors so far this year that's partly due to a record breaking heat wave but s.k. partridge explains there are more sinister reasons too. as temperatures soar across southern europe wildfires have become common particularly in italy. but the sheer number of forest fires has raised suspicions and police have discovered that many fires are less acts of god than acts of some very desperate men and the courses themselves are eyebrow raising in sicily fifteen volunteer policemen have been arrested for either starting or reporting fires so they could
8:24 am
earn an extra ten euros an hour for putting them out for suspicions were raised when the number of fires went up from the usually volunteer number forty to one hundred twenty the alleged ringleader a man known as hddvd is even under house arrest as he apparently constant his practice of driving to an area and sparking up while police indeed say he is one twisted firestarter he said he wanted to set of a bomb to take the money available if the emergency vehicles needed to be repaired another scandal like the fires has also spread to road where two hundred hectares of a nature reserve have gone up in flames and so apparently has the reputation of a former t.v. director local media citing the investigation claim is part of a racket who started the fires to intimidate a group of transvestite prostitutes working in the area to make them pay their protection money where he was found with a flyer in one hand and
8:25 am
a lighter in the other one could perhaps say the evidence against him is incendiary . r.c. america spoke exclusively to musician and pink floyd co-founder roger waters one of the topics discussed with the current was the current frenzy over fake news here's a sneak preview of the interview you can watch in full on r t america's youtube channel. that is where we're living now where propaganda is more important than fact it's far more a book and is a huge news story about this whole thing about free. who says that people have understood the truth facts phil loss of free knowledge is tree education none of these things are important in order to retain a position of power you need to be really good at propaganda you need to be really good at telling big lies often and loud and the last thing that you want in the mainstream media is anybody shining actual real light on anything. thanks

for staying with us came across what's happening at r.t. dot com and are our social media pages to be back with more news in just over half an hour. social environment. right. chemical discoveries over the last century made every day life easier but at what cost this is cereal is exceptionally sick. no wonder it's confidential. says since the years old industrial giants reap the benefit ignoring the caused by chemical production. you know as if these people are just experimental animals decades later the toxic environment continues to poison lives and we found these astronomically high levels of dioxin

well welcome to. brats and pans to personalities of rocks the man living as goats those are just a few of the achievements that one day eight nobel prize this year and award that's handed out for a ridiculously funny research but does the eight noble prize serve a greater purpose than just making people laugh is it making science. makes a mockery out of it well we asked the founder of the ig nobel price the editor of the annals of improbable research magazine abrahams. there are no limits to scientific curiosity even if it takes researchers to the very bizarre is there such

a thing as useless research the work of scientists so it's. actually help us walk along the path of progress and how do you draw the line between a complete waste of time and the next big discovery. the founder of the ig nobel prize editor of the annals of improbable research magazine marc abrahams great to have you with us mark welcome to the show now tell us something is getting an ignoble price belittling or actually noble for scientists or is it an honor. well of course i cannot speak for what's in somebody who's mind it's more an honor than not when we give a prize almost always we first get in touch with the person very quietly and we offer them the prize we give them the chance to decline to turn down this great honor if they want to so if somebody says no they don't get the prize so everybody's getting a prize pretty much has the.
