being that i shot from both sides at each other eyes i saw of people hitting each other with holes i saw a lot of people with just what a lot of blood running down their face giant welts it was very it was very odd dramatic very scary at times but i will say that the police did not did not use heavy handed tactics today and how would you describe the scene now does this look like things are going to calm down perhaps people seen enough and want out now or could this actually build. it seems it seems that for the day of charlottesville it's over everybody is spread out across multiple multiple sites throughout the downtown area. but it seems that for the day everything everybody is tired everyone's everyone's grieving. and just to clarify that i think the latest video gave us the clearest pictures so far reports of three
3:30 pm
vehicles involved i was questioning earlier you know to what extent we can say this is deliberate or not it would appear that video clarifies things to some extent clearly showing one vehicle ramming into the back of two vehicles in front of it and forcing them to plow through the pro the counter protesters who dissembled and they can see you can just see the aftermath there tending to some of the wounded let's take you now some information coming from the mayor of charlottesville who has confirmed now that one person has died in this incident and a quote from him the mayor of charlottesville saying broken for the life has been lost here people of goodwill to go. let's get on the line now to washington d.c. and speak to our correspondent jacqueline. a very sad day certainly for the people of charleville jacqueline what more information can you bring us. you know
3:31 pm
like you just mentioned we are getting the update that with the among the multiple injuries some of them quite severe we do have the report that one person has died and it looks like these cars actually rammed into the group of counter protesters and today was obviously a very divisive protest happening between the white nationalist and the counter protest that was happening there and unfortunately earlier today we did see president trump tweet calling for unity in the united states saying that there's no place for violence like this to take place in america and now we're seeing the extent of the violence that has happened in charlottesville today. right now it seems that america is anything but united unfortunately we've seen a number of examples of violent protests happening we've seen plays depict depicting the death of our president we've seen a while back when you were a member of comedian kathy griffin she did a photo shoot showing herself holding
3:32 pm
a bloodied severed head the result resembled the president many people slammed her saying that it was you know provoking violence on that side and even protests that have happened at universities across the country have seen a lot of violence break out between essentially the left and the right sides of political parties people often coming to blows or using pepper spray a lot of it a lot of times it's just unsolicited violence and today we've seen another extreme example again we see in this these cars it seems like there were three cars that were allowed into the protesters one person has died and many more are injured and we're going to keep checking in to see what has happened how this was possible to have happened today and what else can be found among the victims. and science correspondent in washington jacqueline who go on the line.

coming from the police department that. social commentator. just speaking in general. up to that point violent protests. kind of expected this anytime you have you know groups of white so when it comes together to talk about anything they do then being white in a positive way of course you're going to get people to come a kind of protests you're going to have people that matter you also have. the same kind of thing happen in california so it isn't a surprise that it happened here in a state of virginia you should not be removing these monuments because when you do there what it does is it reshapes history it's a different story than actually what actually happened during the civil war they tried to paint a confederate. place in the north as. the you know compazine liberal place but that was not the case and i think it was removed. in favor of. as being this you know this generous person is people when they really
3:36 pm
do need to take some action at least for you know right now. as of right now it's a fad is trendy to go out there and protest in you know scream matter kind of things because a lot of people get out there you know to get a lot of attention to be able to promote themselves market to what the police do need to intervene when it gets to a point where it crosses a boundary because when you cross a boundary. for boundaries to continuously be crossed the charlottesville police department has issued a statement on facebook confirming multiple injuries have been reported they say that police have now occupied the scene there in charlottesville and that three vehicles as we have now clearly from video footage of the incidents were involved place have asked for people to clear the area which again as we understand has been happening they want the emergency vehicles to get in to respond to those who have been injured. now this all occurred with violence erupting earlier in the day as the crowds have gathered for
3:37 pm
a right wing march there in charlottesville in the state of virginia. what you're seeing now are latest pictures that we got this was the aftermath of rounding incident which is left and at least eight people injured. actually i. think i was. all charlottesville has now declared a state of emergency over the rally the small city has become a ground zero for white nationalist neo confederate an all right activist in the us this includes the k.k.k. in their fight to keep traces of the confederate legacy that intact and it follows
3:38 pm
a plan that was announced to remove a statue to rename two local parks if you're just tuning in to us here you're watching out international breaking news story this hour is that heavy injuries and at least one fatality have been sustained by counter protesters at the unite the right rally in the u.s. state of virginia a car that plowed into two of the vehicles and as a result one fatality numerous injuries have been sustained. and we spoke earlier to our correspondent from r.t. america alex rubenstein he was on the scene witnessed what happened. i'm not sure how it how it works physically but the person in front from what i hear was able to drive away and was followed by a state trooper that was told to me by an n.b.c. reporter i didn't see that personally. i saw i saw i did i saw two cars that were totaled the trunk was just completely smashed
3:39 pm
a woman was inside crying there was there was blood on the hood of her vehicle there was blood all over the place of people about sixty people injured i saw i saw some of them flying through the air over the hood of the car. and i'm hearing actually one one possible feet ality i can't confirm that but that's that's what i've been hearing on the ground and i also care about sixteen people injured total the been any suggestion at this point to who the victims were the people who who were hit by this call with a right wing protest as over the counter protest this no no they were counter protesters they they were more of the variety they weren't breaking things or anything like that they were marking them this. where we're doing record setting business including something called the countability act where david and his executives can now hold people accountable for doing a poor job. and say you're fired you do a poor job for
3:40 pm
a veterans you're fired that's been in the making for forty years they were unable to get it approved one of our legislative successes frankly one of our many legislative successes we got it approved and i know david it's making life a lot better and people who work in a lot harder because of it in a few moments i will sign the v.a. choice and quality employment act of two thousand and seventeen this bill will ensure that veterans continue to have the ability to see the doctor of their choice so important and don't have to wait or travel long distances for care and during the campaign i kept talking about it. people these great incredible veterans are finest there waiting in line for seven days nine days fourteen days for ailments it could be fixed. just listening in to donald trump an expectation that he might actually make comment on today's events in

3:43 pm
a state of emergency over the situation the relatively small city has become a ground zero for white nationalist neo confederate an ultra right activist in the united states and includes the k.k.k. their fight to keep traces of the confederate legacy there intact if others a plan that was announced to remove a statute and to rename two local parks well earlier prior to the fatal incident involving the vehicles i spoke in general about what had been up to that point violent protests with political and social commentator antony brian logan. kind of expected this anytime you have you know so when it comes together to talk about anything they do. in a positive way of course you're going to get people to make as you're going to matter. it same kind of thing happen in california so it isn't a surprise that a happy new year in a state of virginia you should not be removing these monuments because when you do there what it does is it reshapes history it's a different story than actually what actually happened. they try to paint

3:46 pm
traded windows you cannot see that it. really was but all been for from the libertarian national committee. i think that the level of violence is catching people off guard but the presence of violence i don't think is going to be a surprise to anyone who's been watching that kind of damaging ideologies that are taking hold of the left and on the and the right and what we're seeing here is an explosion of that kind of damaging ideology these violent ideologies that have really taken over both the left and the right now american politics the libertarian party has had his disagreements with the with the left on the right in the past but we've all been able to agree that violence should not be the fundamental form of discourse what we're seeing here is violence replacing discourse and that is so dangerous for american politics it is something that we all and regardless of what party you are we have to fight against the idea of using violence to settle
3:47 pm
political disputes i think they're trying to divide that right between people who want smaller government which is that most of the people who are conservatives most conservatives are really libertarian they just haven't realized it yet and are trying to replace this vast majority of conservatives who are good people with this tiny radical fringe of hardcore races that are claiming to speak for the entire right they don't and earlier i spoke with auntie america's alex rubenstein he was at the scene witness what happened. i'm not sure how it how it works physically but the person in front from what i hear was able to drive away and was followed by a state trooper that was told to me by an n.b.c. reporter i didn't see that personally i saw it i saw i didn't i saw two cars that were all totaled the trunk was just completely smashed a woman was inside crying there was there was blood on the hood of her vehicle there was blood all over the place of people about sixteen people injured i saw i

saw some of them flying through the air over the hood of the car. and i'm hearing actually one one possible fatality i can't confirm that but that's that's what i've been hearing on the ground and i also care about sixteen people injured total. been any suggestion at this point to who the victims were the people who who were hit by this call with a right wing protest as over the counter protest this no no they were contra protesters they they were more of the variety they weren't breaking things or anything like that they were marching through a very very small road it was it's a one way and they had just a big number of people in that stretch and the car just plowed through three cars actually plowed through two of them and it appears to be unintentionally one of them and it appears to be very intentional i mean this sounds like in the riffing seeing lots of people injured by the sound of it one of the authorities done about this i would imagine that with the place down of the something like this. although
3:49 pm
it's not completely locked down i mean streets have been shut off on and off all day and charlottesville. they were originally fire trucks came down and even a bear cat the bear cat was the first vehicle to respond after reports it started coming out of this of this incident and then later on some ambulances were able to show up after about like seven to ten minutes or so. i hear donald trump is going to give a speech later tonight say something about this but it seems as though. charlottesville is not completely shut down although there is a state of emergency. the mood there of the counter protests he said some of them who have been injured how they responded to what. the soul to pawn some of the numbers. it is just it's just very somber here a lot of people crying a lot of people have friends that were that were hit by that car and just just all
3:50 pm
around sadness you know you know typically at a protest if if the police will ask you to get on the sidewalk protesters will say no i mean everyone was comply and everyone was just trying to do the best thing that they could do at that time for the injured people it seems. and how would you describe the scene today we heard the previous incidents as well just how violent how's this protest being. sure i mean there was not a good number of chemicals being sprayed there was pepper spray of there. i'm sorry i apologize my camera man. there was a a large number of pepper spray being shot from both sides at each other eyes i saw of people hitting each other with holes i saw a lot of people with just what a lot of blood running down their face giant welts on it was very it was very odd dramatic very scary at times but i will say that the police did not did not

use heavy handed tactics. how would you describe the scene now does this look like things are going to calm down perhaps people soon enough to want out now or could this actually believe. it seems seems that for the day and charlottesville it's over everybody is spread out across multiple multiple off sites throughout the downtown area. but it seems that for the day everything everybody is tired everyone's everyone's grieving. and just to remind you of the of the incident this occurred this is a response that's come from the mayor of charlottesville saying that he's heartbroken that a life has been lost there is all people of goodwill to go home at least one people has been killed a minimum of eight people injured according to the local authorities the police saying that they want people to go home so as to allow the emergency vehicles in to

we condemn in the strongest possible terms. this egregious display of hatred bigotry and violence on many sites on many sites has been going on for a long time in our country not donald trump not barack obama it's been going on for a long long time it has no place in america what is vital now is a swift restoration of law and order and the protection of innocent lives no citizen should ever fear for this safety and security in our society and no child should ever be afraid to go outside and play or be with their parents and have a good time i just got off the phone with the governor of virginia terry mcauliffe
3:55 pm
and we agreed that the hate and the division must stop and must stop right now we have to come together as americans with love for our nation and true effect really and i say this so strongly true affection for each other our country is doing very well in so many ways we have recog just absolute record employment we have unemployment the lowest it's been in almost seventeen years we have companies pouring into our country foxconn and car companies and so many others that coming back to our country were renegotiating trade deals to make them great for a country and great for the american worker. we have so many incredible things happening in our country so when i watch charlottesville to me it's very
3:56 pm
very sad. i want to salute the great work of the state and local police in virginia credible people law enforcement credible people and also the national guard they've really been working smart and working hard they've been doing a terrific federal authorities are also providing tremendous support to the governor he thanked me for that and we're here to provide whatever other assistance is needed we are ready willing and able above all else we must remember this truth no matter our color creed religion or political party we are all americans first. we love our country we love god we love our flag we're proud of our country we're proud of who
3:57 pm
we are so we want to get this situation straightened out in charlottesville and we want to study it and we want to see what we're doing wrong as a country where things like this can happen my administration is resorting to sacred bonds of loyalty between this nation and its citizens but our citizens must also restore the bonds of trust and loyalty between one another we must love each other respect each other and cherish our history and our future together so important. we have to respect each other ideally we have to love each other. responding that today's fatal events in charlottesville now the fatal incident followed what had already been violent
