they were contra protesters they they were more of the variety they were breaking things or anything like that they were marching through a very very small road it was it's a one way and they had just a big number of people in that stretch and the car just plowed through three cars actually plowed through two of them and it appears to be unintentionally one of them and it appears to be very intentional so it's not completely locked down i mean streets have been shut off on and off all day in charlottesville and later on some ambulances were able to show up after about like seven to ten minutes or so a lot of people crying a lot of people have friends that were that were hit by that car and just just all around sadness you know you know typically at a protest if if the police will ask you to get on the sidewalk protesters will say no i mean everyone was compliant everyone was just trying to do the best thing that they could do at that time for the injured people it seems. police have confirmed

that one person did indeed die in the running incident and the nineteen people were injured the information has come in also the where the fifteen people who are wounded in the clashes in the city. i. was i i i i i i i i i i. i i. i i. well there's been no official confirmation regarding whether or not this attack was deliberate the driver though is now said to be in police custody we spoke earlier

division here in the united states must stop so here the president is calling for the u.s. tonight but at the moment the u.s. is anything but united you know we've seen violent protests on both sides of the aisle ever since you know gratian back in january and you know while this particular incident appears to have targeted left wing groups of protesters we've also seen a lot of violence targeting the right as well and one of the most prominent cases back in june a republican congressman congressman rather was shot during the baseball practice and there's also been performances where the presidents was killed at the end and that was a scene that comedian kathy griffin did when she was actually holding up the president. and we've seen a lot of division here on both sides so it's interesting to know that you know today's incidents is that even before the car drove into the crowd of protesters that there had been a sea of emergency in the area and there was very heavy police presence of more

than a thousand officers so it was very heavily concentrated and the virginia national guard was present as well and it's not clear how it all unfolded at this point we do know that one person died and another team had been injured sent to the hospital and so this original protest was underpinned by the decision to remove the confederate statue and what some see as a racist symbol and it's actually not the first incident back in may another confederate statue was removed but then it was done that night to avoid further protest so more people have been injured we'll see if that number rises hopefully it doesn't but it's a very chaotic scene over in virginia charlottesville. thanks correspondent from washington thanks. a little earlier president did give a statement to condemn the violence there in charlottesville and he called on americans to show unity let's listen to. we're closely following the terrible
