of the awesome activist and prank group the yes man he recently impersonated a member of the d.n.c. in order to reveal how corrupt they truly are anyway i'll be talking with him in the second half of the show but first i want to talk about something that i'm not yet. able to really make funny nor really to get my head around it. somewhat again but as some of you might already know i was within feet of the terror attack in charlottesville this past weekend i saw the carnage i felt the fear and i imagine it will be a long time before i can really grasp it all if you want you can you can watch my video of the attack it's on our youtube page although i stopped filming a moment after it happened because filming wasn't really my top priority at the time i didn't even realize i had filmed it until three hours later but anyway here

are some initial thoughts first of all there are some heroes from that day who should be thanked and i haven't heard them talk about all that much although i haven't watched that much of the news around but they were without a doubt the volunteer medics and the leaders the community leaders the group leaders who kept things under control and helped the people with serious injuries so so here are some more political points to the extent i'm able to really come to terms with all this. i don't need to tell you that white supremacists are sad sacks of. if you're watching this show you probably already know that that probably goes without saying donald trump is a sociopathic garbage bag full of rotten all right most of you already know that as well it's absolutely

a false equivalency to say both sides are at fault for a murderous rampage done by a member of a certain group. i've i've seen more than one black community leader come forward and say that without black bloc and some others to protect them the white supremacists would have killed them or severely beaten them that brings me to the charlottesville police here are the numbers in charlottesville on the day of the attack only six people arrested including these suspected murderer six people this is despite all out brawl and beatings that went on all day long the cops so no need to stop almost any of that they just let it go but it standing rock at those protests by native americans on their own land they arrested the cops arrested seven hundred sixty one

people by their own account and it ferguson a hundred and fifty five people were arrested in the disturbances for the protests. and it occupy on a single day when i was down and occupy on a single catalog of peaceful protesters peaceful marchers they arrested seven hundred people on the brooklyn bridge it's funny you know it's almost like being against income inequality against profit over people against a massive oil and gas company destroying people's lands those things are highly illegal in our country being against those things highly illegal in our society but being a white supremacist actively beating people in the streets of charlottesville it's no big not a not a real big deal well arrest six people out of you know hundreds of beatings will go

grab six and there's a final point about the police when you allow this the beatings and the violence that went on you allow things to escalate to a point that if maniac runs people over in a car all day the neo nazis and other groups realize there were no repercussions for their actions no one was going to stop them we'll never know for sure but it's quite possible heather hire would be alive right now if the cops had shown any desire to stop the violence earlier in the day because then these lunatics wouldn't have thought they could do anything they could get away with anything. but beyond the cops there's a much bigger picture here the hypocrisy of the politicians condemning this attack made me just want to vomit constantly hillary clinton tweeted my heart is in charlottesville today and with everyone made to feel unsafe in their

country with everyone made to feel unsafe in their country are you and your husband responsible for millions feeling unsafe in their countries the bombings and invasions you supported the bombings you pushed for as secretary of state there are probably only a few dozen people in the world who have made people feel as unsafe in their country as you and the clinton machine have not to mention the state violence of the prison industrial complex you helped create and build throughout your career that's cut the. but hold that thought senator chuck schumer tweeted in march and rally in charlottesville against everything the flag stands for president trump must condemn and strongest terms immediately this from a man who took over

a hundred thousand dollars from the private prison industry the current form of slavery in this country the new jim crow largely based on a drug war that nixon's advisor has admitted was created to or rasta black people specifically to do that schumer. further he bolsters and he any enlarges this white supremacy crap in our country by supporting that was a private prison he's also taken over a hundred thousand dollars from lockheed martin in order to do their bidding in congress this is the weapons contract that blows up people around the globe on a daily basis as george carlin said we're really good at bombing brown people so our imperial imperialist wars don't count as furthering white supremacy no that doesn't that doesn't count. but of course it wasn't just corporate democrats who jumped on the hypocrisy train it was the republicans to john mccain tweeted white

supremacists aren't patriots they're traitors americans must unite against hatred and bigotry of course he's right about that statement that statement is correct but he's a massive hypocrite he perhaps more than any other senator has lobbied for bombing just about every country on the map well let me correct myself every not white country on the map as well as russia and a few others he's done nothing but further our white supremacist imperialist war hungry bullshit for decades this isn't even i'm not even mentioning the extremist we've funded the extremist we've created via drone bombings etc and that actually brings me to one of the darkest things. i thought about roughly in an hour after the charlottesville attack i thought about hell of that scene that played out in charlottesville that i had just witnessed is somewhat what it must be

like to be a village that gets hit by one of our drone bombs it's that scene it's a similar scene people hurt and crying and screaming everywhere not knowing whether you or your family is ok or not not really knowing what happened or why having no one to blame and no one to undo the harm that's been done no way to bring back the dead we drive twenty six thousand drone bombs last year under obama twenty six thousand in seven different countries. that number will likely be higher this year now the trump has taken the gloves off our military mr i want to decrease the wars and bring home the soldiers yeah right he's taken the gloves off and whatever slight tethers they still had on them the pentagon still had he let them

loose according to the pentagon's own numbers ninety percent of drone bombings kill an intended targets which means innocent civilians imagine just imagine how many people have found themselves in a position similar to the one i was in this past weekend witnessing that similar position except instead of a car driven by an idiot nazi it was a bomb dropped as part of our white supremacy imperialist wars the entire oligarchy the. ads as we go through this news cycle the swirling tornado of of a lot of the idiot news some of it accurate some of it not the entire oligarchy the ruling elite the people that run the show. that is partaking in a in a white supremacy and an american supremacy worldview they are benefiting from it.

day and any time we average americans bottom ninety percent of americans spend anytime we spend going after each other is is great for them it's perfect to stoke our fear and our anger at each other it's useful to them don't talk about income inequality or corporate totalitarianism or the collapse of our environment due to the market economy that eats everything like a virus don't talk about any of that instead blame it on black people blame it on hispanic people blame it on immigrants blame it hath hell get angry with unions or are your neighbor or teachers for having better health care than you or bernie voters it's a party vote it's a just i vote it's the trust voters or whatever they want us to turn on each other because they know that once we unite to create a better sustainable egalitarian system we'll be unstoppable

recently the creative activism group the yes man pulled a brilliant prank. on the d.n.c. andy bichel bomb one of the yes men spoke at an event and impersonated a d.n.c. representative he announced that the d.n.c. would throw off their corporate chains and basically begin standing for everything people actually want from free health care to no more war to getting corporate money out of politics it was it was pretty shocking for those in attendance and this is just one of the many awesome stunts pulled by the yes man here's my conversation with andy bichlbaum. andy thank you for joining me again yeah thanks for having me so you're now representative the d.n.c. what is it the the vice chair of civic engagement i think very prestigious position well done yeah congrats thanks you're used to this event or sat down and spoke out and basically said the democrats would stand for all of the things

that americans really wish they stood for universal health care money out of politics and in private prisons stopping our analyst wars what was their response to the presentation. well people were delighted i mean i set it up i didn't just say you know we're going to do all these utopian wonderful things explain why we were going to do it and it actually is why the democratic party should support all these things if they want to win elections. polls show that americans are by and large strongly for universal health care even forty one percent of republicans want it. you know one of the reasons that trump one was non interventionism this idea that he wasn't going to he was going to stop conflicts. free college tuition is widely favored across the political spectrum and most americans believe that

corporations have too much influence in politics and a lot of them would stand would would be very pleased if corporate lobbying were outlawed so these are all positions and ok not only are the polls showing that this is popular but democrats progressive democrats at local levels are winning across the board. small elections but you know the mayor of jackson mississippi one pledging to make sorry maybe it's missouri. pledging to make that city the most progressive city on the planet a very progressive platform and across the board you see this many many candidates have won local elections and. that plus the poll shows people do want this and it's not hard to see why and i'm one of the people who believes bernie sanders would have won and you know i'm also one of the people who believes we're kind of stuck with a two party system for now we don't have time to make

a third party we need to act really fast and i think we need to take over the democratic party so that's why i. say that i you know i understand the arguments. for by both sides of sides it's a you know bernie fleeing the democratic party and creating his own could be a path forward and many believe like you. that we're stuck with these two so take over the one that perhaps has a bit more shot of being taken over did you hear anything official from the d.n.c. did they did they come out and say we're not doing any of that stuff that everyone loved no strangely and. i think i know why it's because there's it's indefensible there's no defensible argument against taking these positions taking these positions would win elections. taking these positions would defeat trump. but they have a donor problem the democrats have

a big donor problem and that's oversimplifying it perhaps you know it's not maybe not each time like oh our donors would like this position but the the taking of big money in general and the taking of specific big money like charter school money or health care pharmaceutical industry money. makes. the people taking the money more conservative and you know it's been shown that politicians by and large attribute much more conservative attitudes to their constituents than the constituents actually have and that's because i think the politicians are waiting the most influential the richest the most donor donating constituents the heaviest. that's a noxious effect well that's another thing that the democratic establishment find so scary about bernie sanders is that so much of his money came from small donors

and he wasn't taking corporate donations then and so that means they don't have their control they don't have the control mechanism if he's not taking corporate money. yeah i mean it's you know it's been proven it was proven without election on both sides actually that small donations can more than match large donations so there's really no reason to take large donations if. you can have a very progressive platform which is a giant if and how are the democrats going to do that how are we going to actually shift the democrats to become an actual left party that can win elections and you know that's that's a much bigger question i think we could and the nations raised small amounts at a local level would be would more than suffice but i think it's going to be a it's a big ship to shift and it's got to happen at the local level i think people have to run for office there are some there are some offices that are really easy to win

like in texas if you run for precinct committee officer and you become the representative of your precinct for the democratic party you generally will win because nobody runs for them many of the seats are unfilled there just isn't anyone run for the and then you can vote for officials higher and you can actually change the entire party from the inside out so that's one way you can do it there in the northeast it's not quite as easy but you can still join up with a group that aims to do that aim a progressive group the names to transform the democrats and you can actually do it and i think that's what we have to do maybe concurrently with thinking about a third party at some point in the future yeah people have really got to get more involved and i think part of their success of corporate totalitarianism the profit over people. war against this our society part of that success has been

atomizing us breaking us all up and tiny you know individuals so that we don't get together we don't work together to to bring down this prop and profit over people dynamic. what you know you're stunt it is so amazing and it's one of many you've done over the years a lot of them seem to fit into dick. gauri of you impersonate a organization or a corporation and you say we're going to do all of these common sense things that everyone wants and then the corporations some of them actually do speak out afterwards and say we're absolutely not going to do any of that why why did you pick this tactic and why do you think it's so effective. well in this case i really strongly felt that. you know we had to act fast and we need we need a progressive party if we're going to win in the twenty eighteen elections which we

have to do. what's going on now is just unthinkable and completely unacceptable and . you know we have to win and so this was a way of this was all you know we could think of. kind of like nudge that forward it was to basically say what the democrats should do and you know i mean try to embarrass them a little bit try to get them to you know i obviously it's not really aimed at the democratic party itself at the higher ups in the same that everybody else because really in reality they're not going to they're probably not going as we'd love them to listen but they're probably not going to they have a machine it's a giant machine it works for them for a lot of people it does work unfortunately it doesn't work for the country and. you know so this was really aimed at everybody else to see while this thing is not

working it could work we need to take it over and probably if i had to do it again i would have added something in more about you know grassroots action and how we can take it over and the various ways that we can take it over. there's a lot of groups you can join that are working on the you know from brand new congress to our evolution to the various bernie groups there's a lot of people aiming to do this to really just transform the democratic party in time for the twenty eighteen lection and that just requires really standing up and doing doing it running for precinct officer or district leader or what have you if that's if you're in a place where that makes sense or as. activating in new york for example activating against the id c. the independent democratic conference which keeps new york state from being a real blue state even though it has

a preponderance of democrats you know there's in each place there's something that keeps the corporate democrats. firmly in their seats and we have to just knock that seat out from under them at every opportunity and i think what you guys do so brilliantly is kind of short circuit they the gatekeepers in the gape that have been put up to stop messages like yours to get put forward in in the mainstream media because you know those are corporate gatekeepers and they don't really want to talk about this stuff but you guys often manage to kind of break your way through it with your with your various media stunts you also have the yes lab where you got to help people culture jam on their own what's your advice for people who want to i'm for lack of a better terminology make make change create change the way you guys do. well one piece of advice would be. you know not to take what we do too seriously it's just

one way of getting the message out i mean this was a joke this was a prank that had a lot of content and was totally on funny. and well you know my my opinion it's funny from a satirical sense because it's funny to watch the audience go whoa wait i thought democrats aren't allowed to say they used to hold on he just said we're against wars no the democrats love blowing things up like to me that's funny that's a you know it's a satirical you know moment and decided yeah there is humor in it even though it was dead very dead almost like rigor mortis in humor but. but i was i would say you know this is just one way of getting the message out i think writing articles. you know going to demonstrations finding completely different creative ways of spreading you know

a rallying cry this was intended to be a rallying cry basically just our little way of doing it you know like the hash tag d.n.c. take was what posing as a d.n.c. person i said you know this is our d.n.c. take back thing but then afterwards it becomes about taking back the d.n.c. . and it becomes a relic cry so what we do is just one of many many ways and if somebody wanted to do that kind of thing that we do i would say yes do it it's not rocket science figure it out you know we also give away all our secrets on our website yes lab dot org but. i would say also just think of what you can do to get the message out and more importantly create change so right now it feels like the most important thing one could do would be to run for office or support excellent candidates that are you know super progressive candidates that are winning races nationwide. at the local level and do what you can to support them i mean the top level is one thing.
