ninth ukraine's ministry of information policy announced it had been to two spanish journalists from the country longtime war correspondents on hillsides today and and . were detained it gives but he's pull airport on august twenty fourth and just about two years ago maybe three we with other reporters were included on this list supposedly for information they didn't like in which we reported from. there after with the new president and the parliament in ukraine we had papers from the consulate which we showed the authorities at the airport we were excluded from this black was that this point the surprise was that in the last two days when i tried to enter the country with my partner we were separated and were informed that the secret service had included us on a second blacklist with forty other people they told us that we were a threat to national security and they took our passports and treated us like we were delinquents then came the authorities that deported us to spain through amsterdam the ministry of information policy maintains freedom for journalists and
4:09 pm
freedom of speech is a priority for ukraine's government sauce today and diego believe however they were specifically targeted for previously reporting on the donbass conflict we were trying to do is simple we are not pro russian and we are not pro what they call separatists or pro ukrainian government what is important to us are the civilians that have been living in these villages affected without gas without red. sions and are being bombarded the spanish government is not taking this move lately filing a formal protest to ukraine our government has informed us that it is presenting a formal complaint to protest for deportation but we're not expecting much to come of it we hope our government responds and that there is some form of not only response but a consequence imagine our government was to deport ukrainian journalists it's absurd we don't expect them to do that as a response of course but we do expect that there is some sort of stricter and firm consequence on the part of our government we don't expect to be removed from the list right now i believe there is no freedom of speech in ukraine and i think
4:10 pm
ukraine is right now a place dangerous for journalists and i believe they're now taking a form that many others have taken that is dictatorial and that's not very smart for them ukraine's actions fall a pattern on wednesday kiev banned russian journalist ana botha openly referring to her as a propagandist the state security service reportedly abducted in tiger bought of a down before deporting her the organization for security and cooperation in europe osha condemned the move groups like human rights watch and even the journalist club in mexico have condemned ukraine's behavior towards journalists joseph ricci r.t. washington d.c. . the state department ordered the closure of the russian consulate in san francisco along with two other locations within just the next two days that move threatens to take relations between washington and moscow to an all time low. looks into russia's reaction on that move each hostile move hostile decision by russia

or the u.s. is followed by yet another blow and response this latest one by washington means that the number of russian consulates in america will have to be reduced to three and the one that is being shut down in san francisco is the oldest diplomatic compound russia had in the u.s. it dates back to the middle of the nineteenth century well when the washing foreign minister it was asked about the ongoing diplomatic spat this morning he reminded that it wasn't moscow behind this war of sanctions in the first place this. story was not. it was stilted by the us administration with the only purpose of the us russian relations trying to write trumps administration story from my slang terms of trying to come down. to washington actions that's home russia's interest
4:12 pm
every time you hear about the news on a new round and this never ending outright diplomatic war you ask yourself how far can this go when is it going to be over well at least. says that moscow is genuinely in favor of putting an end to this conflict well when it comes to the approach of the u.s. here's how mr elaborate sees it going to. the u.s. when the conflict with this country we've always been friendly towards the american people and we're still open to constructive relationships but as you know it takes two to tango. bridge doesn't. time over time so it takes two to tango and definitely when it comes to putting up with we have been seeing quite an impressive dance performance by moscow and washington we already heard from sergey lavrov that moscow will react to this decision to shut

down the russian consulate in san francisco and very soon we will find out what the russian foreign ministry comes up with russian president vladimir putin called attempts by the united states to pressure north korea into stopping its nuclear missile program quote misguided and futile today he continued to warn that the conflict with north korea is quote balancing on the brink of a large scale conflict as north korea continues to develop nuclear and ballistic weapons in defiance of u.n. sanctions the russian president wasn't the only one advocating for a peaceful solution to the escalating tensions germany's foreign minister also warned against a military showdown saying it could result in more casualties than during world war two which was the deadliest conflict mankind has ever seen. and now to our continued coverage of hurricane harvey where the death toll up to at least forty now this tropical depression is showing no mercy harvey is now moving through the southeast making its way into mississippi although the storm has moved on from
4:14 pm
texas its aftermath is far from over artie's trinity chavez is joining us live now from our new york studio try to you've been keeping an eye on this situation all week. yes manella well as you said this situation is far from being over as the storm is on the move a flash flood warnings have been issued throughout mississippi tennessee kentucky and the carolinas meanwhile in houston while the area is drying out officials are now able to determine the extent of the damage the mayor said that he will request a preliminary financial aid package of seventy five million dollars just for debris removal all alone but officials say that it's still too early to to to determine the overall cost said that already more than fifty seven million dollars in individuals distance has already been paid out but some experts estimate that the harvey damage can cost anywhere between fifty to one hundred billion dollars and they said it could take years to recover but the mayor of houston is hopeful and he
4:15 pm
says that his son is open for business and he's things that the community will be back on its speed in less than a year this city of houston in a me just be going to all of the cameras the city of houston is open for business and quite frankly we open for business right now and metairie one of the reasons. why i think we'd be we would be back. within a year if not now and that's next because there are people in this in the city corporations and people that are just going over and showing their support in this feeling that support early. but the mayor warns that the flooding will continue for the next ten to fifteen more days but because officials have released water from the reservoirs but while houston is in recovery mode other areas in texas like king would put poor arthur and beaumont are still under water water is still cut off since the water supply was knocked out by the storm and that means around one
4:16 pm
hundred twenty thousand people do not have drinking a drinking water system and officials can't even start fixing it until the water recedes although officials don't know exactly how long that's going to take they hope that it will get back up and running within a week's time but still many residents are concerned about how they are going to behave and what they're going to drink until then however officials are trying to bring in another bottled water for everyone meanwhile in crosby texas residents that officials are still bracing for more fires to occur at the ark much chemical plant earlier this week there were two fires that broke out after a massive flood waters knocked out the electricity and to back up sources chemical reaction caused the fires which released noxious fumes residents within a mile and a half radius have remained evacuated trinity i know you said some floodwaters are receding in other areas of texas are still under water what kind of health risk does that pose for the community. this is
4:17 pm
a huge health and safety hazard this floodwater that we're seeing is brown it's murky the e.p.a. is now warning those in the flood zone of possible toxic water this water is infested with everything from bacteria garbage debris fire ants even crocodiles and the list goes on and on flooded sewers are fueling fears of cholera typhoid and other infectious diseases not to mention if there's an oil or gas leak at one of the refineries or chemical plants we just spoke about the two fires that happened at the arc of the chemical plant and more expected right now we do not know exactly how much how harmful this water really can be but even when the floodwater passes the danger in the floodwater will still linger for for a while houston health officials are urging people to stay out of the floodwater if they can saying that it's filled with contaminants and it's a growing health risk right trinity chavez reporting in new york thank you.

one hundred seventeen year old five story building collapse in mumbai india following the city's heaviest rainfall in fifteen years at least thirty three people have died and more than a dozen others may still be buried under the debris floods and high winds in the city caused the building to crumble according to misapply officials the building was declared unsafe six years ago now since june of two thousand and seventeen more than twelve thousand people have been killed and up to forty one million civilians have been affected by devastating floods and landslides across south asia. and a new article from the intercept describes how one think tank fellow was fired from their post at the new america foundation open markets initiative which investigates corruption of public policy the article by a cipher teach out alleges that the work being done on open markets threaten google's business interests when eric schmidt complain to anne-marie slaughter who runs a new america so joining me now to discuss this and more investigative journalist
4:19 pm
max blum of the i.m.f. good to see you to see you first can you break down for us what exactly happened at new america and their project open markets and how that that is somehow a threat to google that and their parent company alphabet yeah i mean what happened at the new america foundation which is just down the street which does do some decent work i'm not going to trash the whole new america foundation is but but it's what happens across the board in beltway think tanks it's a paid for play culture google had donated i think twenty three million dollars to the new america foundation eric schmidt google's c.e.o. had gotten a special eric schmidt ideas lab and that's not what new york magazine reported was eric schmidt soundproof thirteen million dollar bedroom that it referred to as a sex dungeon it was actually supposedly an ideas lab and so you also have the open market it's an issue of at the new america foundation which. was heavily critical
4:20 pm
of big money in politics and especially of the role of silicon valley in kind of forming these monopolies and conglomerates and dominating public policy i mean google is not only donated to the new america foundation but to over one hundred thirty n.g.o.s and think tanks across the country through eric schmidt's personal foundation so when the open markets initiative chris actually supported the e.u. imposing penalties on google for monopolizing antitrust penalties which should be imposed in the u.s. and marie slaughter the head the president of the new america foundation a very you know a person who served in the clip under hillary clinton in the obama administration talk a little bit about yes she isn't and well she shaped u.s. foreign policy well what she did was she actually fired barry lynn and the entire open markets initiative and said you're imperiling our donations so anne-marie slaughter personally represents this pay for play culture now what we have to also look at about anne-marie slaughter's how did she wind up at the new america
4:21 pm
foundation at this major think tank which is also funded by the state department given her record she is the author of the responsibility to protect doctrine which is justified interventions from yugoslavia to libya on the grounds that the u.s. military has a responsibility to protect civilians anywhere except in palestine of course wherever there are imperiled and so end marie slaughter was a huge influence on the obama administration's decision to intervene in libya with nato she proclaimed it a smashing success in late two thousand and eleven this should have been discrediting she was working for hillary clinton she has defended it consistently and also called for the intervention in syria under the grounds on the grounds of right to responsibility to protect this whole doctrine that she helped conceive along with samantha power has been completely discredited by the scenes that we see in libya and what would have happened in syria if it had been enacted and this should have been discrediting for her instead like all of these think expert tank. who are funded by corporations or by the gulf states who are funding think tank
4:22 pm
after thing that she was kicked up stairs and this is the inevitable result is this scandal speaking of that is what we're seeing out of new america a rare thing or is this kind of just a bigger problem across all the think tanks yeah i mean new america is not is the greediest an example as something like the middle east region it's not as agree just says for example the middle east institute which was about to fold until it received a twenty million dollar donation through the u.a.e. ambassador to washington. wendy chamberlin the president who has also nominated the tide rescue group the white helmets for the nobel prize happily accepted that donation you will see no one at the middle east institute among its experts from charles lister who's basically a lobbyist from the syrian rebels to son who diverges from the position of the u.a.e. or saudi arabia and that's where all their money comes from you see the same thing at the atlantic council where if you look at the the personal profile or
4:23 pm
composition of its funders that's how you understand it's experts and the same thing you increasingly see the same thing at the brookings institute which is kind of considered the think tank of the liberal establishment all these big names i mean definitely interesting perspective not something you'll hear anywhere else thank you so much as always investigative journalist max thanks for having me. all right that does it for now for more on the stories we just covered going into. america also check it out was there a good outcome for it flash america you can also follow me on twitter at military and right at the out of your screen remembered a question for you back here. the world's. no news companies nearly players but what kind of partners are into america r.t. america. r.t.
4:24 pm
america. many ways. just like the real news a good actor bad actor. you could never hear all. of the park and all the world all the world's a stage we are your life. for decades the american middle class so it's been railroaded by washington politics. big body. that's thrown out a lot of boards that's how we use the culture in this country. that's where i come in. i bet it's still on our to america i'll make sure you don't get railroad you'll get the straight talk in the straight. to.
4:25 pm
recently the creators of south park trey parker and matt stone announced they wouldn't be doing cheap trump jokes on their upcoming season because they said they didn't want to become the annette and which to me proves that they at least can still be funny but since we live in a p.c. world gone mad of course they received a ton of backlash news busters dad or and recently did a good breakdown of some of the backlash they've received first they point to a daily beast article entitled south park has the donald trump problem but apparently the daily beast are the ones with the problem not south park who seem just fine with their decision to not become like any of the other stupid late night comedy shows who all say the exact same trunk jokes over and over like they're playing peek a boo with a baby or something. the daily beast actually ponders in this article what
4:26 pm
responsibilities south park has in the age of trump they actually try to say that south park a show with a stone or towel for a character and talking coop has a responsibility to join their very serious and army. next news busters points to the a.v. club which went so far as to call that untrained cowards for laying off drum cowards can you believe that as if it takes any bravery at all to bash trump i mean that now is literally the cvs thing you could do if you're in the media you'll immediately get a whole chorus of hive minders cheery even if you repeat a joke that's been said a million times and isn't funny as long as it's against trump not joking about trump is what actually brave in today's crazy world what's cowardly would be caving to the group think and doing what they want you to just like the a.v.
4:27 pm
club is trying to make south park to south park is literally being the opposite of cowardly fice they now know things are going to stick to actually being funny and original while facing all of your pressure lastly news busters points to an article in philly dot com which accuses south park of abdicating their responsibility as a comedic chronicler of pop culture which couldn't be any more ridiculous again to use that language about a show that made saddam hussein into an adorable little thought i get to emotionally torment to think it is so ridiculous and news busters wraps it up great by talking about how the left is trying to weaponize humor right now to me i couldn't applaud more for not that coming to the high of mind and just regurgitating the same jokes that cold air and all the rest say over and over and over again night after night because there's nothing funny about hive mind not at all and i mean that very seriously.
4:28 pm

4:30 pm
i'm going to kill. your. time when the frances is broadcasting around the world from washington d.c. tonight gas counting has begun in texas to take advantage for a game harvey and investigators scramble to catch up also gold breach thirteen hundred this week where will it stop we'll get some input on that and also my guest former u.s. trade commissioner bart chilton joins me to talk about the surprising jobs report and much more by the bus start right now.
4:31 pm
up high water grads from houston through texas and louisiana authorities are bracing for the inevitable wave of fraud and now the dirty details are coming out locals are stuck with four dollar ninety nine cent gas for regular at a location and in misc heat texas and three dollars ninety nine cents for regular in other places and four dollars forty nine cents for premium both at a station in garland it's a predictable situation as supply lines are slowed from storage facilities and refineries to gas stations and there is a rush by customers to get those tanks filled the impact of harvey has production down at refineries by a minimum of seventeen percent. this price gouging comes with
4:32 pm
a heavy penalty to the gougers and as the misery continues you can expect more cases of this according to the texas attorney general's office one convenience store in houston reportedly charged twenty dollars a gallon for gasoline eight dollars fifty cents for a bottle of water and ninety nine dollars for a case of it which brings us to best buy forty two dollars for a case of water during a hurricane well that hit social media and corporate chimed in it said dozens a dozen federal and state agencies were banding together to investigate it says it's very sorry for what happened it was one manager who make the call it will never happen again corporate was on aware now to go on to the investigation a dozen investigators at least are involved right now on just a handful of those situations in and around houston. and gold saw in nearly four percent surge in august it settled above the key thirteen hundred dollars an ounce
4:33 pm
level in each of the past three sessions closing at around thirteen thirty and forty cents today. and we got our closely watched jobs report and it was lower than predicted along with lackluster wage growth august was the eighty third consecutive month of job growth in the u.s. economy so the debate continues as to whether the fed will make the move to raise interest rates at the end of the year even in light of low inflation readings. so the bureau of labor statistics has released that report as i mentioned but the unemployment rate moved important to note four point three to four point four percent and there were one hundred fifty six thousand new jobs created the jobs figure however was well below what many expected joining me to discuss this let's bring in my guest former u.s. attorney commissioner mark shelton. we got a busy week you wrote a very poignant opinion editorial yesterday fox business on gas prices and
4:34 pm
hurricane harvey plus another one for c n b c on tax reform let's talk about those in a bit because they relate to the economy but for its what your take on these job numbers well they're not as good as that people had anticipated lindsey people into subpoenaed one hundred eighty thousand as you said one fifty six in addition the previous two months were revised down twenty thousand and twenty one thousand jobs respectively i mean last year we were talking about how great it was a two zero nine hundred and up coming down to one in eighty nine but overall i mean we still seem to be on pretty positive footing all right well that's good to know it doesn't seem too bad so you know august didn't really measure up to the expectations you still pretty positive right now in august tends to be slow anyway that's true and if you look in the details of the numbers of manufacturing jobs were were up thirty six thousand new jobs in manufacturing twenty eight thousand new jobs in construction and really the last leader were state and local jobs with
4:35 pm
seventeen thousand less jobs but but overall i think we're looking good on jobs i mean we could to. due to have strong solid performance the average for the last three months is one hundred eighty thousand jobs so we're doing well i mean people were a little bit taken aback but will still make some some progress ok so right now going forward what do you think we're facing not just with jobs but economic growth well i mean we had a one point two percent first quarter gross domestic product and we were you know not real thrilled with that and then as you recall the second quarter was two point six percent that was just revised up as you reported last week to three point zero three percent which is is great if we continue continue but looking forward some of this is going to be really tough to gauge because of hurricane harvey i mean the jobs data will be really tough to get the stuff that came out today was all pretty hardy the all the data was pretty hurricane i.r.b.
4:36 pm
so it'll be tough to figure out what's going on in some of these numbers coming forward they'll be a little bit on woolly and the same may be true for g.d.p. but i don't think given what we've had so far will see any change when the federal open markets committee meets and middle september i don't think they're going to be raising rates then they may not even be raising rates at the end of december right to the c.m.e. group as a gauge on whether or not they think they're going to raise rates in december and only thirty percent percent of that that people think that they're going to raise them but overall positive on the economy but because of harvey we don't want might not know some of the numbers right and a lot of people are talking about the cleanup efforts like this jobs absolutely that massive absolutely want to get to the. economic impact of harvey your op ed you talked about the gas prices on the rise what's going on and how might it go it's kind of counterintuitive for people to understand the oil prices for us the gas price of oil prices at sensually been down in in the month they've
4:37 pm
gone up in the last couple of days i think that settled at forty seven maybe thirty seven today up six cents from from yesterday but the gas prices continue to be on a real surge they risen since we spoke a week ago before harvey was here getting we could go to day friday prices have gone up sixteen cents to the average nationwide prices to fifty right now and you recall that i said they could be as high as thirty cents well in d.c. this morning i saw they were forty cents higher so we're seeing more and more increases some of the refineries which is the real problem in corpus christi have come back online. brought to refineries online valero brought a refinery on line there's a couple in port arthur that are still doing assessments at the same time in lake charles louisiana they've slowed down some refinery production so it remains to be seen how high they will go nationwide average but as i said you know people should
4:38 pm
be filling up their cars that are long lines in texas but you know everybody fills up usually for labor day weekend but they want to avoid the price increase save a few dollars i'd fill er up now right. the numbers we're seeing right now is that it could add up to be the most expensive natural disaster in history will congress actually provide this disaster assistance as much as that means because a lot of people are liking not only at the at the disaster assistance but the economic growth impacted by the storm people thought katrina it couldn't get worse than katrina and this is going to be exponentially worse yet and so a couple of things there i mean great incisive question so on the disaster aid front just within the last couple hours the president announced with. the vice president at his side that they are going to request five point nine billion dollars which is a good and welcome thing but like you're like you're indicating treat it was one hundred billion in several cities and so it's
4:39 pm
a drop in the bucket to what's going to be needed now if you compare that to harvey will be sources suggest the most expensive natural disaster in our history at one hundred ninety billion dollars katrina was one sixty and when you compare the things and you say why were they so different one i mean houston is just bigger it's the fourth largest city and new orleans's you know like the fifty largest city four hundred fifty thousand in new orleans versus two million and the economies are more diversified and right and so in katrina it was really their their colonies really was built on tourism and retail but in houston it's energy as we've been talking a industry it's industry also medical research so there's a lot of differences between the two the other difference is that people will probably be returning to houston because the it's a wealthier city and town in general they've got high priced homes and they want to
4:40 pm
come back to i mean a lot of people in katrina when their houses got damage and they didn't have insurance now it's bailed and headed for headed north to avoid having this stuff happen right future so big differences between the two let's talk about other words trump has sat out wednesday he gave a speech in missouri mention tax reform let's listen to your thoughts on these clips with us that is why the foundation of our job creation agenda is to fundamentally reform our tax code for the first time in more than thirty years i want to work with congress republicans and democrats alike on a plan that is pro growth pro jobs prone worker and pro american so this is our once in general a. aeration opportunity to deliver real tax reform for every day hardworking americans and i am fully committed to working with congress to get this job done and i don't want to be disappointed by congress do you understand. moving
4:41 pm
on to treasury secretary steve no chen said more details will be coming out later this month he called it a blueprint conduct of national economic council said that the administration has been working with capitol hill for months on tax reform a year out however this has not been enough and i think a lot of people agree with you know by well i mean all they've done is one page and if you think that the president provided more details in his speech in missouri he didn't know there was nothing new a matter of fact he gave less details and you heard in the clip you played i mean you know pro growth pro jobs pro america i mean of course everybody is in favor of that i suppose you could i said have. you why you would have been appropriate to but his his what he's offering is more like crackerjacks in that we may get a surprise when it comes down he said congress has to vote for tax reform he said if democrats don't vote for it they should be defeated yet there's no there there i
4:42 pm
mean where's the beef remember the old commercial sort of there's nothing that's been said now in fairness for your viewers who didn't look at the remarks he said a little bit more but again not very detailed he said what he wants to have corporate tax cuts he wants to make the tax code more simple he wants to have some middle class tax cut all we didn't give a number on the corporate side he said drop it from thirty five down to fifteen so we know what he wants to do on business but for every folks he has that know how low it can go and then he wants to repatriate some of this money so this is the money that company said all right he's bringing back talked about on the show right bringing that back you know to lower tax rates so all of those things are what he's called for but quite frankly what i said in my c. and b. c. up it is. action plan should be just get out of the way i mean he is so damaged at this point in dealing with capitol hill he just calls the leaders names the he's the bully bellicose behavior is just he's become really

a non energy on capitol hill and so good work for i don't see anything negative of course about steve minucci in the secretary treasury or gary cohen they're doing good service they should support the hill run the budget numbers but let these guys mitch mcconnell and paul ryan in the senate and house respectively do their job of collecting votes they're good at it despite what the president tweets yeah fat chance to think it were expecting any unusual action plan wishful thinking no i think it is right now for the negative on that you're not going to give us any sunshine now it appears the bottom line secretary newton said it could be done at the end of the year and since may i've been saying i don't think there's i think it's zippy due to chance they could get it done next year at the beginning before all the ruckus and rebellious campaign rhetoric starts so we'll cross our fingers for that hour i thank you so much for me us try to take. a quick break now stick around when we get back after two years dalin dupont become one and the stock market and how did amazon get in trouble with the solar eclipse really telling you

peak of globalized trade has likely passed so says the c.e.o. of the world's largest sovereign wealth fund. the head of norquist bank investment management which holds one point three percent of the world stocks says global trade may have hit he calls an inflection point brought about in part by populist protectionism policies by leaders such as president donald trump trump is head out of china and accused it of flooding the market with cheap goods which lowers the value of american products she says the only two economic powerhouses that matter are the united states and china the move would escorting him her allies and someone say it could start a trade war. canada's economy is red hot with a surge in consumer spending driving that country's growth predictions of
4:48 pm
a slowdown are being tossed to the table as economists begin to revise their net. positive g.d.p. report when i went to center on time with this story alex sometimes not so great productions back to the next back to reality here what's happening with canada's economy look an expected celebration of four point five percent driven by consumers believe it or not this is putting canada at the top of the group of seven nations right now on performance when it comes to the economy to the g.d.p. here's a chart just showing you just how it goes through the roof you know not too bad right now to utilize growth was the fastest in six years on top of the three point seven percent average forecast from economists that the nation's benefiting from a mix of things we're seeing internationally speaking we're seeing growth globally as well as the fact that trade volumes have gone up domestically there's a number of factors that have come into play that the bottoming of oil prices for example that was something that canada was quite afraid of the oil industry is
4:49 pm
going to go put because of everything what's happening with oil really hasn't had that much of an impact on the nation and oil prices are actually your production at least is going up a bit in canada so that has breeze this positive trend or at least assisted it now federal deficit spending some people say it's good some people say it's bad well government spending tons of money and guess what that gets injected to the economy and moves things forward all those somewhere down the road people probably have to pay for it rising industrial production is another one and the house prices you know we've talked about those many a time in toronto a big where yeah some people are saying dow the bubble has burst in trauma bay goober you could call it a bubble bursting or you could call it a simple reset when prices were just basically going through the roof and not necessarily at a pace that they should have been looks like an economist are taking it as seriously as a bubble bursting so in that respect again things are looking but let's talk about the household the consumers this is the big one so their housing houses are house
4:50 pm
values have gone up which is in bold in them as well as the fact is the jobs market is pretty steady hearing. add it up all that put together you know first quarter we saw four point eight percent growth four point four percent now in the second quarter that's the first time we've seen anything like that since the two thousand and eight recession so it's all positive numbers and it's really pushing the economy forward ok so the final analysis by economists based on this report is pretty stellar i want to say but you know a columnist were saying they were saying that there was actually to be a drop of two percent know now they're fixing their books and saying hey you know the things are looking good i guess we made a mistake wouldn't be the first time economists make a mistake when the banks or the banks are reacting in a positive way simply because we saw the interest rate the first of many years here in canada just a month or so ago and now we're hearing that probably next week we're going to see another point two five percent interest rate just because of the way performance is going this is
4:51 pm
a c i b c prediction and it probably will happen and we might see another interest rate jump in two thousand and eighteen sometime so the banks are looking at it in a positive way the canadian dollar is going up which is another positive thing economists say you know like i said we're predicting a slowdown this isn't happening that way so these numbers what we've seen in canada is for the past five years sub three point eight percent growth so if these numbers stay steady to the end of the year we'll see a three percent plus growth in this country and believe it or not five years that we haven't seen anything like that since one thousand nine hundred twenty six in this nation so this is actually pretty big that this cycle is being broken wow those are some impressive numbers and good news for canada thank you so much alex we have us joining us from toronto thank you. amazon has been hit with an eclipse readed lawsuit the white house is trying to

stop a russian oil company from buying a major refinery and the national labor relations board is going after task. he has more on all of that for us right now about a week after the solar eclipse occurred amazon was hit with a lawsuit regarding allegedly faulty glasses a couple in south carolina filed the lawsuit on tuesday claiming the eclipse glasses they purchased on amazon damaged their eyes they reported headaches i watering and vision paramount including blurriness and distorted vision earlier in august amazon started emailing customers about potentially unsafe losses that it couldn't verify but the company didn't say how many were up for sale or name the vendors and so far no comment has been issued on the lawsuit the white house trying to do all it can to stop the russian based on taking more stake in citgo even though it's a u.s. based firm it's owned by venezuela which has recently been relying heavily on its allies for help in return for
4:53 pm
a one point five billion dollar loan venezuela was ready to hand over half of those shares to us next but not of the trumpet ministration has anything to say about that rosneft has been sanctioned by the u.s. for years now ever since sanctions were imposed regarding the conflict in ukraine meanwhile the head of the us enough said he has no plans for a takeover. and tesla looks like it could be in trouble with the u.s. labor authorities on thursday the national labor relations board filed a complaint over unfair labor practices according to workers' complaints employees had to sign confidentiality agreements that prevented them from talking about working conditions tesla has since denied the accusations and has until september fourteenth to formally respond to the claims. let's talk more about this test a lawsuit what are workers claiming specifically happened so the biggest thing here is that they had to sign these contracts have prevented them at all from talking
4:54 pm
about conditions at the. california plant that's where a non-disclosure sort of going. but working out of the plant they couldn't even talk about any safety concerns that they may have had and a lot of these workers are alleging that they were even threatened by management with being fired or even being sued if they broke the agreements and that contract so this particular lawsuit was filed by three workers from the california plant and the united auto workers which is a union that for a long time has been encouraging test. to unionize much to the dismay of c.e.o. elon musk and upper management but based on those response which is that they're saying that these workers are just lying it looks like this will actually head to the courtroom and won't be settled outside of court well it sounds like with non-disclosure agreements it's more like you can't run to the press it seems odd that they can't take it to the higher ups but is this connected to these other work or claims from earlier this year because tesla is no stranger to this stuff yes so
4:55 pm
this started back in february with one worker actually working writing a blog post about this particular worker agreement and it caused a you know a huge media storm and a lot of drama at tesla and responded he said each of his claims are false and that he's lying but on top of that he also said that he was really trying to make the quality of the work life better in the future he promised to create a free frozen yogurt machine at this plant also said that he was going to hold because that is obviously what they're most concerned about he also said he wants to create an electric car roller coaster throughout the plant for them to get around so this is such a millennial situation trying to improve the quality is regardless of whether or not their claims are actually true apparently he wants to he wants to help out right i got to ask you though do you think people are really going to feel too bad play the violin for these tesla workers a lot of people would like to work at tesla and it seems like the really going to
4:56 pm
hash out what the safety situations were before people start. they go oh it's it's really bad it's not like they're out like an aluminum plant you know what i mean i think it will really depend on if this actually goes to court and if we learn about what they were let's get we need to know what specifically they're complaining about but that really is the argument he says you get paid way more than most u.s. auto workers and you know to be complaining about seventy to one hundred thousand dollars a day or versus you know just a small manufacturing plant in the middle of the u.s. like there are a lot of i must say i want to visit a slippery when wet sign that wasn't put down or is it operating machines with. components uncovered i mean i'd like to see what the what the stuff is here but in other news the hyperloop it one must hyperloop just hit two hundred twenty miles per hour a court of public opinion might not side with them interesting to see the details on that thank you very much been best. ok it's time to talk back this week we've
4:57 pm
been inundated with talk of a fed rate hike is it going to happen when by december how jittery is the market actually over this how is gold affected obviously it's going up but what's next what about the weak dollar it goes on and on it seems every economist of course has their own point of view on top of all this we've got a good but relatively weaker jobs report with lower inflation than we've seen in actually quite some time so let's push the experts aside and let me ask you what do you think do you think the fed will actually raise rates on us you deserve to be heard on air so hit us up with your thoughts and analysis on twitter or at e-mail or with e-mail at boom box viewer at r.t. america dot tv do not be afraid to send those with a video as well. and that's all for now check out the show on youtube youtube dot com slash boom bust r.t. thanks for watching the next time.

journalists from the country long time war correspondents on hillsides today and. were detained it gives but he's pull airport on august twenty fourth about two years ago maybe three with other reporters were included on this list supposedly for information they didn't like in which we reported from the net thereafter with the new president and the parliament in ukraine we had papers from the consulate which we showed the authorities at the airport we were excluded from this black was that this point the surprise was that in the last days when i tried to enter the country with my partner we were separated and were informed that the secret service had included us on a second blacklist with forty other people they told us that we were a threat to national security and they took our passports and treated us like we were delinquents then came the authorities that deported us to spain through amsterdam the ministry of information policy maintains freedom for journalists and freedom of speech is a priority for ukraine's government sites today and diego believe however they were
5:09 pm
specifically targeted for previously reporting on the donbass conflict so i think what we're trying to do is simple we are not pro russian and we are not pro what they call separatists or pro ukrainian government what is important to us are the civilians that have been living in these villages affected without gas without rations and are being bombarded. the spanish government is not taking this move lightly filing a formal protest to ukraine our government has informed us that it is presenting a formal complaint to protest for deportation but we're not expecting much to come of it we hope our government responds and that there is some form of not only response but a consequence imagine our government was to deport ukrainian journalists it's absurd we don't expect them to do that as a response of course we do expect that there is some sort of stricter and firm consequence on the part of our government we don't expect to be removed from the list right now i believe there is no freedom of speech in ukraine i think ukraine is right now a place dangerous for journalists and i believe they're now taking

a form that many others have taken that is dictatorial and that's not very smart for them ukraine's actions fall a pattern on ones they have been russian journalist ana botha openly referring to her as a propagandist the state security service reportedly abducted in tiger bought of a down before deporting her the organization for security and cooperation in europe osha condemned the move groups like human rights watch and even the journalist club in mexico have condemned ukraine's behavior towards journalists joseph ricci r.t. washington d.c. and a series of nine hundred eighty four cia memos reveals rather alarming views on how to deal with the press and this was before and declared wiki leaks a non state intelligence service of course so joining me now to discuss the implications and the revelations legal and media analyst my friend lionel of light on media why don't have as the media you get i mean where i start has the media

always been deemed enemy of the state. well it's very interesting i commend this to anybody to read this particular story and to read how the cia thinks remember it's the same people today not the same actual people but the same organization that at the time they went to great pains to describe how exactly they would deal with this problem and the problem was the mainstream media the mainstream media that used to be of the days of cronkite and and morrow that well that's changed because the problem today and this is what's fascinating the problem that that they pose today are wiki leaks or is wiki leaks i guess the the idea of a group of people who don't even act as a journalistic organization but just basically say these are your documents these
5:12 pm
are your statements here we're leaking them for you now but what you look at when you read this is to see how the fate you know and chan they have been absolutely brilliant through operation mockingbird in the old days of of working with actual mainstream media newspapers the washington post for example now it would of what it is but the idea of having an understanding where they would act almost as affiliates of the government they would work with the government and this is all through a post kind of a cold war and the world will look where we are today. and chad who are the big threats right now who are the threat to the deep state not mainstream media not these people that they feared thirty three years ago yeah but alternative media foreign media citizen journalism the internet the internet that you cannot on
5:13 pm
license the internet that you could not exact your revenge upon as easily as you did thirty three years has certainly now of the mainstream media seems to be more aligned with the government one side or the other right so speaking of that are the media now somehow agents of the cia or the the deep state. well it's interesting this fellow named trump came along and he came up with this idea and he basically used it phrase that initially was kind of directed to the visual a fake news and whether you like him or not just irrespective of trump all of a sudden this montreaux this drumbeat this this code or this reframe this fake news fake news fake news really invigorated people and also you just said something deep state we never said cia then was kind of like they're just

sparky the big question is what you journalism i mean this is almost an anachronism when you read about what they did in the old days but but what this is is look at how even then it was important upon them not to crush the mainstream media but troll them and you know what lionel coincidence maybe maybe not one thousand nine hundred eighty four just saying thank you so much. only media the last line of line on media thank you. with the death toll now up to at least forty tropical depression harvey is showing no mercy harvey is now moving through the southeast making its way into mississippi although the storm has moved from texas its aftermath is far from over artie's trinity chavez has the latest. well as you said this situation is far from being over as the storm is on the move a flash flood warnings have been issued throughout mississippi tennessee kentucky and the carolinas meanwhile in houston while the area is drying out officials are

now able to determine the extent of the damage the mayor said that he will request a preliminary financial aid package of seventy five million dollars just for debris removal alone but officials say that it's still too early to judge to determine the overall cost said that already more than fifty seven million dollars in individual assistance has already been paid out but some experts estimate that the harvey damage can cost anywhere between fifty to one hundred billion dollars and they said it could take years to recover but the mayor of houston is hopeful and he says that his son is open for business and he's things that the community will be back on its feet in less than a year the city of houston and me just begin to all of the cameras in the city of houston is open for business and quite frankly we're open for business right now let me tell you one of the reasons. why i think we'd be we would be back. within a year if not now and that's and that's because of the people in this in the city

the refineries or chemical plants we just spoke about the two fires that happened at the arc of the chemical plant and more expected right now we do not know exactly how much how harmful this water. really can be but even when the flood water passes the danger in the floodwater will still linger for for a while houston health officials are urging people to stay out of the floodwater if they can saying that it's built with contaminants and it's a growing health risk right trinity chavez reporting in new york thank you. the russian foreign ministry says u.s. security agencies are preparing to conduct a raid on the russian consulate in san francisco the apartments of diplomats and staff will be searched jacqueline boga has the latest the news of these searches is really an unexpected and forceful further escalation on america's part now russian russia's foreign ministry spokesperson maria zahar of a said that this order poses a direct threat to the security of russian citizens because the searches will not be limited to the consulate itself but will also include the apartments of the

a special report on the situation developing in yemen you can catch it on september fifth but right now she's joining me live now to talk more about this neglected war your special called yemen the neglected war premieres next week what you can be covering it. manila i'm going to be covering the history of the conflict all of the players involved and of course what is now the worst humanitarian crisis in the world and i do have a preview of a couple interviews the first one that i conducted is with an immigration lawyer named to julie goldberg now she is based out of los angeles in new york but she does have an office in djibouti africa and she runs boats from the southern portion of yemen into djibouti which is the main escape route for people fleeing the violence in yemen here's why she says the humanitarian crisis has reached catastrophic proportions take a listen the biggest problem is like for example i don't know if you saw i was about nine ten months ago where the saudis and the u.s.
5:23 pm
bombed the consulate stopped just south borders so what's happening is because you know in a civil war where you have people fighting on the ground places like unisa red cross can go in and isolate an area and create some sort of protections or safety or medical care or food or stuff you don't have that in yemen because it's basically an air strike and the saudis have control of the airways so what's happening is there's no area or safe place for a lot of the relief agencies and the aid to go in and help these people and so internally these people are getting absolutely no help whatsoever like. i want to mention that internally displaced persons are not protected in the way that refugees who cross international borders are protected so there's really no hope here these people are subjected to many different hardships every day so i spoke
5:24 pm
with dr riad karim who is a co-founder of the mon a relief agency which operates on the ground in yemen take a listen to what some of the things are happening to civilians in yemen they know that the people who are responsible for this is saudi arabia and the coalition because. you know when saudi arabia actually be invaded yemen they were they were very very close to coming to an agreement with the north and the south and then the invasion happened and everything went through hell in a handbasket and you know and then what happens is that study of creating vacuums we've seen we've seen yemen within the southern part of yemen where al qaida. and dyers have to be taken over a lot of the areas i mean a lot of talk to so many people here in the u.s. and many people have no idea that this conflict is even taking place and they have
5:25 pm
no idea that the american government is even involved so that's why i decided to do this special take a look at the preview here. twenty million people are on the brink. in under three years violent famine and preventable do you think gravity higher. up the international community remains finally. time to talk about. all right appreciate it thank you so much for looking forward to it thanks. the u.s. led coalition against isis says another sixty one civilian deaths have likely been caused by its air and artillery strikes in iraq and syria artie's came up and has that story. in the month of july the coalition completed the assessment of thirty
5:26 pm
seven reports resulting in sixty one unintentional civilian deaths the coalition assesses that it is more likely than not at least six hundred and eighty five civilians have been unintentionally killed by coalition strikes since the start of operation inherent resolve u.s. central command says that only six hundred eighty five civilians have been killed in the last three years of the operation against i.c.l. it's interesting though because we continue to hear about air strikes carried out by the u.s. led coalition in which civilians are killed in fact now many rights groups around the world are very critical of the methods used by the united states to count civilian casualties for example amnesty international has criticized the methods used by the coalition to calculate civilian casualties for the fact that they don't visit the sites of these airstrikes and they don't seem to interview survivors this is what amnesty international said relying on this limited methodology leads the coalition to discount to mature to freep woods's non-credible are inconclusive and

to subsequently clean that civilian casualties account for only zero point thirty one percent of all engagements now u.s. secretary of defense james mattis he said that civilian casualties are just a fact of life and that the important thing is to determine who are the good guys and the bad guys we are the good guys and munitions people on the battlefield know the difference locals on the ground however beg to differ. i saw with my own eyes three houses destroyed and then astroid isis fighters first went there and run away then the jets bombed where they were seventeen civilians were killed but they would go on the roofs of people's houses and start shooting they wouldn't let people live in this later jets would sit with civilians still inside. that we were in from the shelling from the coalition will lift the people from islamic state if you can what we were directly targeted by the coalition and it was
5:28 pm
very clear that there were no insurgents in the area there were children playing in the streets and we were carrying water from a tap on house and civilian homes were directly targeted. one of the planes bombed us heavily this happens in downtown mission had been the wrong i still slaughtering people as many weren't killed and houses were destroyed if you get out of the coalition shelling targets civilians hit civilians four story houses full of people all over the neighborhood so it's a many many have been killed among the my cousin he died in iraq in a mass trying now at this point we're seeing a bit of a pattern where the air strikes in syria and iraq by the u.s. led coalition are intensifying in the name of defeating i still now the united nations has said that the intensity of strikes and i still repeated willingness to use civilians as essentially human shields all is very very disturbing. coming up
5:29 pm
later on r t a police lieutenants shocking words caught on tape that and more and today as a race in america segment with ashley banks will be right back don't go anywhere. it's a real irony going. to . hold still surveillance you feel you have already while those of. us then try to use the social media. garbage in real. for. what. they put themselves on the line they did except that. so when you want to be president. some want to. let you go right. to see what the. real people are. interested
5:30 pm
in the water. there. i think the average viewer just after watching a couple segments understands that we're telling stories there are critics can't tell you know why because their advertisers won't let them. in order to create change you have to be honest you have to tell the truth parties able to do that every story is built on going after the back story to what's really happening out there to the american what's happening when a corporation makes a pharmaceutical chills people when a company in the environmental business ins up polluting a river that causes cancer and other illnesses they put all the health risk all the
5:31 pm
dangers out to the american public those are stories that we tell every week and you know what they're working. all right it's time now for our weekly segment called race in america with ashley banks ashley is joining us now to tell us what she's got on the agenda today actually hi there mellow right now on race in america we will be discussing how a police lieutenant in georgia was caught on dash cam video saying the words we only kill black people that's right and twenty sixteen cobb county police lieutenant greg abbott pulled a woman over and asked her to reach for her phone the woman expressed to add that she was frightened that she had seen too many video showing probably its brutality abbott then responded to the woman saying quote but you're not black remember we
5:32 pm
only kill what black people this incident happened last july but was only discovered after a local news station submitted an open records requests prompting up. police investigation during the investigation abbott was assigned to a ministry of duties and just recently the cobb county police chief mike register fired him were just are also put out a statement saying quote there's really no place for these types of comments and law enforcement i feel that no matter what context you try to take those comments and the statements were inexcusable and appropriate avodah was part of law enforcement for twenty eight years joining me now to discuss this further is retired d.c. metro police officer ronald hampton thank you so much for joining us ronald now the police chief said he has known abbott for some time he said that he was quite an honorable man and that he simply made a mistake now i want to mention in the internal report during the investigation it
5:33 pm
said that abbott was being sarcastic now what's your take on this was this a mistake. not knowing what happened was that they found out that abbott was a racist and believe me it probably has come up in the twenty eight years that he's been on the police force cobb county georgia has been known to harbor racism as well as activities by the klu klux klan still is right next to decay of kenya where lenny isn't and they have been issued then there before so this guy the what has happened to this guy on the mistake is that now district court on a camera and then video not only video but we saw the and heard the sound too so now he can't get around the fact that he used this racist term as well as it's awful to me is the indication of his behavior over the years so i don't necessarily believe the person who said that they've known to me he's a person i don't believe that and i was the chief saying that he believes this was definitely not a mistake it's just sorry that it was caught on video and that's what i think
5:34 pm
caused to the camera now and the sound that's associated with the camera has been catchin the law the mistakes it will just i think it's enough favor those who. want reform and restructuring the state police in the criminal justice system and put in police and cameras now unveiling new skype of behavior by police officers and we had to do some about it so i think his action of get rid of him is superb. i want to read you a statement from the n.w.a. c.p. because they definitely agree with you i they say quote although we applaud them for their transparency in this regard the officers entergy action of race into the stop was particularly troubling and maybe a systematic a deeper issue and the department what's your take on that is there a deeper issue at hand i believe so and i mean i think again. thank god we had the cameras but the other thing that i think should go along with the cameras are the kind of policies and practices that should bring this tension. quicker even quicker
5:35 pm
than what it was it took a year for this to take place this happened in two thousand and sixteen the other thing that the play in the city too is to catch you in this that he said that even if you did it sarcastically what is that allowed him to feel that he could do there and then do it freely and know that he knew he had a camera and was being recorded but he did it freely enough to feel that he can say that to a white woman but he would never said that to a black person or given a black person the opportunity to respond and they had to say to him in the problem would have been the case that they would have been arrested and maybe even a victim of pulled the switch out the so no he he doesn't deserve to be a police officer and like you're saying obviously that would have been unprofessional on either setting whether it's a white woman or a black woman man or whoever now you what you did mention is that it took some time for this video to be uncovered it was a local station actually that put out
5:36 pm
a request for this video to be uncovered on the police chief is saying that we're just now getting this information but at the same time now he's saying we're going to move forward and try to have a better reviews. system when it comes to the dash cam video but what's the point of having dash cam video and officers equipped with body cameras if the these videos aren't being reviewed regularly but you that's the fallacy in this in this video came as well this day a scant one what about the policy around releasing it what is the policy around reviewing the person on the camera what is the policy of. public viewing the publicly releasing and if you find something that serious on the camera what is the policy about turning it over to investigators and i'm not talking about vesta gays in the police department i'm talking about investigators outside of the police department independent investigators so having the camera is important in in and i
5:37 pm
think there are several incidents that give rise to the importance of the camera but even more important than the camera is the policy and practices related to how the camera is going to be used when you cut in on when you cut it all who can see the film can be seen and all of that how long are you going to keep the feel evident in their policies longer than a year because the e.u. has pages so those flames out of really do important components to have to go along would have been the responsibility of when the cameras were going to have to leave it there ronald thank you so much for your time that was around the hampton retired d.c. metro police officer thank you so much thank you. how many people did the police shoot and kill in the u.s. and january first how many of those people were black no clue where your gas might be as good as the government's because there is no federal tally of law enforcement to use a fatal force last october the department of justice said it would begin to recording every instance of a police officer killing in the line of duty but there's been no follow up to that
5:38 pm
the guardian said police killed one thousand ninety three people in twenty six team but the washington post final count is nine hundred sixty three and news media aren't the only. the ones taking a stab at building their own database says mapping police violence dot org is among the few anon news projects to document police killings but what most non-official sources agree on is the proportion of black deaths they all report twenty two to thirty percent of those killed by police and twenty six team were black. watch change the conversation of bet for a couple of weeks charlottesville received a lot of attention after the k.k.k. white supremacists neo nazis and white nationalists held a rally opposing the removal of confederate statues back in august the rally turned violent and as a result thirty two year old heather higher lost her life many were outraged at how president donald trump responded to the n.c. denton even some republicans outwardly voice distain over his comments some were
5:39 pm
happy as it seemed like republicans and democrats were on one accord however others were not impressed senate minority leader chuck schumer spoke out saying quote i have been encouraged to see a good number of my republican colleagues in the congress speak so strongly against they hate full agenda of the white supremacist neo nazi movement he adds actions speak louder than words he's in the blog post to his republican colleagues saying he urges them to back up their anti-racist public announcements one way he propose they could do that was by improving voting rights joining me now to discuss this further is all thorough and investigative journalism greg plastic is so much for joining me greg glad to be with you ashley first let's start with why aren't these political figures doing anything to change the plight of minorities as i just mentioned some spoke out against the neo nazis white nationalist in the k.k.k. but they are supporting policies that actually have
5:40 pm
a negative impact on the lives of minorities. exactly they're doing something they're they're instituting brand new jim crow voting restrictions on voters of color in america we're actually going backwards at high speed and i appreciate senator schumer saying if you want to do something let's not talk about statues let's talk about statutes the right to vote in america however the democratic party has exactly covered itself in glory either almost nothing was done in the last eight years and now by there's groups taking on both republicans and democrats i know that the hunter the civil rights center will be holding a meeting a gathering of civil rights organizations in richmond virginia to force senator terry mcauliffe after all charlottesville is in virginia and he gave great speeches but terry mcauliffe the democratic governor is still supporting a jim crow system of removing voters from the voter rolls which is violently biased
5:41 pm
against black voters it's called cross-checked the state of virginia removed forty one thousand voters we know at least that many almost all of them voters of color on the accusation that they voted twice black people i'm sorry did not commit the crime of voting twice it's just that they have common names like john black and jackson brown and you know michael jackson these are very common names there's two people with the same name they cues them a voting twice they're removing these voters from the voter rolls this practice has got to stop but i have to say while there's only three democratic states pulling this cross check stunt twenty five republican states are using this jim crow tactic created by by the way by donald trump's chief of donald trump's the voters excuse me elections integrity commission it's a guy named kris kobach and the election integrity commission is basically
5:42 pm
a cover for creating new. rules that will make it a lot harder for voters of color to exercise their citizenship rights i want to read you a quote from humor he said our quote in the past year and a half alone federal courts have struck down discriminatory voting laws in north carolina texas and wisconsin speak a little bit to these laws. yes i mean ok the republicans is have way overreach by having for example in texas you had the ability to vote you need of of voter photo id now you couldn't use your school i.d.'s nor in wisconsin could you use your. state school photo id to vote but you could use your gun license i.d. to vote it's clearly discriminatory on its face but don't rely on the courts to do it all again we have. we're going backwards with new tricks for example kris kobach
5:43 pm
again this is donald trump's what i call the vote thief in chief he's the head of the trumbull elections integrity commission has said that there are over one million aliens non americans voting at the vote in the last election now you may think this is a joke it ain't no joke because they're using this line they're going to be using the records of homeland security to find people for example name jose hernandez that guy named jose hernandez deported to salvador and the believe it or not they'll find jose hernandez is listed on the voter rolls of florida and they'll and they'll challenge the right of hispanic named americans to vote and it's not a it's not just theory. florida tried this before they actually tagged one hundred eighty one thousand floridians as potential alien voters almost all of them hispanic voters they made these voters go into court in some cases to prove their
5:44 pm
american their only crime having a hispanic. last name they convicted one single alien voting it was a white republican from austria but they're going to use this to wipe out votes of color look out greg if anything we have about a minute left if anything what can be done to stop this from continuing. action or the way that voting rights is one of the first place you've got to march you've got to act you've got to gather so again september ninth in virginia in richmond the civil rights center gathering will be there's also a lawsuit filed in ohio based on some of the investigations i conducted for rolling stone by. the end and other organizations. be there to. talking about the evidence behind the lawsuit so you have lawsuits you have marching you have meetings it's the same old it were back to the civil rights movement of fifty years ago well get marching all right thank you so much gregg
5:45 pm
greatly appreciated that's author and investigative journalist greg palast thank you so much you're welcome a mad set for race in america i'm ashley banks follow me on twitter at ashley banks underscore r t don't forget to question more back to manila thanks for that ashley a new article from the intercept describes how one think tank fellow was fired from their post after the new america foundation open markets initiative which investigates corruption of public policy the self penned article by teachout alleges that the work being done on open markets actually threatened google's business interests when eric schmidt complained to anne-marie slaughter who runs you know america i discussed this story earlier with investigative journalist max blumenthal take a look. what happens across the board and beltway think tanks it's a paid for play culture google had donated i think twenty three million dollars
5:46 pm
to the new america foundation eric schmidt google c.e.o. had gotten a special eric schmidt ideas lab and that's not what new york magazine reported was eric schmidt soundproof thirteen million dollar bedroom that it referred to as a sex dungeon it was actually supposedly an ideas lab and so you also have the open markets initiative at the new america foundation which was heavily critical of big money in politics and especially of the role of silicon valley in kind of forming these monopolies and conglomerates and dominating public policy i mean google is not only donated to the new america foundation but to over one hundred thirty n.g.o.s and think tanks across the country through eric schmidt's personal foundation so when the open markets initiative chris actually supported the e.u. imposing penalties on google for monopolizing antitrust penalties which should be imposed in the u.s.
5:47 pm
and marie slaughter the head the president of the new america foundation a very you know a person who served in the clip under hillary clinton in the obama administration talk a little bit about yes she isn't and well she shaped u.s. foreign policy well what she did was she actually fired barry lynn and the entire open markets initiative and said you are imperiling our donations so anne-marie slaughter personally represents this pay for play culture now what we have to also look at about anne-marie slaughter's how did she wind up at the new america foundation at this major think tank which is also funded by the state department given her record she is the author of the responsibility to protect doctrine which is justified interventions from yugoslavia to libya on the grounds that the u.s. military has a responsibility to protect civilians anywhere except in palestine of course wherever they're imperiled and so and marie slaughter was. huge influence on the obama administration's decision to intervene in libya with nato she proclaimed it a smashing success in late two thousand and eleven this should have been
5:48 pm
discrediting she was working for hillary clinton she has defended it consistently and also called for the intervention in syria under the grounds on the grounds of right to responsibility to protect this whole doctrine that she helped conceive along with samantha power has been completely discredited by the scenes that we see in libya and what would have happened in syria if it had been enacted and this should have been discrediting for her instead like all of these think tank experts who are funded by corporations or by the gulf states who you know are funding think tank after think she was kicked up stairs and this is the inevitable result is this scandal speaking of that is what we're seeing out of new america a rare thing or is this kind of just a bigger problem across all the think tanks yeah i mean new america is not is a greedy is an example as something like the middle enough to greet us it's not as agree just says for example the middle east institute which was about to fold until it received a twenty million dollars donation through the u.a.e. ambassador to washington. wendy chamberlin the president who has also nominated the
5:49 pm
tide rescue group the white helmets for the nobel prize happily accepted that donation you will see no one at the middle east institute among its experts from charles lister who's basically a lobbyist from the syrian rebels to haas on the hot sun who diverges from the position of the u.a.e. or saudi arabia and that's where all their money comes from you see the same thing at the atlantic council where if you look at the the personal profile or composition of its funders that's how you understand it's experts and the same thing you increasingly see the same thing at the brookings institute which is kind of consider the think tank of the liberal establishment all these big names i mean it definitely was interesting perspective not something you'll hear anywhere else thank you so much as always investigative journalist max blumenthal thanks for having me and to. in two on contact this saturday chris hedges is being joined by trans activist pauline park for a discussion on understanding the struggle of the transgender community transgender
5:50 pm
rights as i see it is inextricably linked with human rights more broadly speaking and in my view a progressive feminist perspective can inform advocacy in activism so that we can see the connections between among them there are transgendered people living under the illegal israeli occupation in palestine for example there are transgendered people there are people who are undocumented immigrants who've been deported back to their home countries in latin america and elsewhere by the obama administration as well as by the bush administration before it they are people who live in countries which have been. affected by drone strikes in which many many hundreds of civilians have been killed innocent civilians i'm sure there l g b t people in yemen right now which is. being hit by saudi
5:51 pm
arabia in a brutal war. in which saudi arabia was armed by the obama administration so i think if we are serious about being human rights activists who are serious about being progressive in our politics we need to use the same standard to measure any administration and any political party can't play favorites i think we have to hold the democratic party in democratic luck to fishel the same standard as republican party members and officials there's a lot to talk about with regard to donald trump but it's also important to point out that he simply continuing if not in some cases expanding practices and programs and policies of the obama administration just as. mamma continued practices and policies of the bush administration before him.

and a one last thing before we go dr give a turn and later for larry king now tonight's guest is a danish actor famous for his role in the game of thrones named nikolai costner while though you might have heard of a check out press you go into any prisons we went down the i went to one and it was i mean i think one of the things about this movie is that first of all. you know i feel i'm very lucky to be part of this and i think that what you want to do with any movie or any television show you want to you know entertain people you want to you know want to want to be a great story and then if you're lucky hopefully sometimes it will be about something that would make people think and i think rick wall achieves that would shock color because it's a gripping thrilling movie but then it's also about something that affects all of us and it's that there is there's this desperate need for prison reform in this
5:53 pm
country it just doesn't work and we're wasting enormous amounts of money and resources to great psychiatrist call manager tell me the biggest failure in history is first since it's true it's actually feels to do it's supposed to do and it's just it fails us as well and then spend money we're usefully wasteful and it's just the human resources that we waste i mean you have it like yes a nineteen year old boy he does some things to steals a car he steals and i mean that's so stupid yes you have to pay a price but hopefully we should be able to put this guy back into it so that's the goal so yeah but that's the whole rehabilitation is not a priority announce. and that is going to do it for now for more on the stories we just covered go to you tube dot com far slash r t america check out our web site to our team dot com part last merica follow me on twitter right there at manila chan

it actually took me way more time than i care to admit. recently the creators of south park trey parker and matt stone announced they wouldn't be doing cheap trump jokes on their upcoming season because they said they didn't want to become c.n.n. which to me proves that they at least can still be funny but since we live in a p.c. world gone mad of course they received a ton of backlash news busters dad or and recently did a good breakdown of some of the backlash they've received first they point to a daily beast article entitled south park has the donald trump problem but apparently the daily beast are the ones with the problem not south park who seem just fine with their decision to not become like any of the other stupid late night
5:56 pm
comedy shows who all say the exact same trunk jokes over and over like they're playing peek a boo with the baby or something the daily beast actually ponders in this article what responsibilities south park has in the age of trump they actually try to say that south park a show with a stoner towel for a character and talking coop has a responsibility to join their very serious anti trump army. next news busters points to the a.v. club which went so far as to call that untrained cowards for laying off trump cowards can you believe that as if it takes any bravery at all to bash trump i mean that trump right now is literally the cvs thing you could do if you're in the media you'll immediately get a whole chorus of hive minders cheery even if you repeat a joke that's been said a million times and it isn't funny as long as it's against trump not joking about
5:57 pm
trump is what's. actually brave in today's crazy world what's cowardly would be caving to the group think and doing what they want you to just like the a.v. club is trying to make south park to south park is literally being the opposite of cowardly by saying yeah no thanks we're going to stick to actually being funny and original while facing all of your pressure. lastly news busters points to an article on philly dot com which accuses south park of abdicating their responsibility as a comedic chronicler of pop culture which couldn't be any more ridiculous again to use that language about a show that made saddam hussein into an adorable little sidekick to an emotionally tormented thing it is so ridiculous and news busters wraps it up great by talking about how the left is trying to weaponize humor right now to me i couldn't applaud south park more for not coming to the high of mind and just regurgitating the same
5:58 pm
jokes that cold air and all the rest say over and over and over again night after night because there's nothing funny about hive mind not at all and i mean that very seriously. would you have for breakfast just why would you put up this is your wife that's who dog. what's your biggest fear and little bit on the right wing so let's talk a little bit bored you say a few of the things the birth order but. it's boring topic so simple. now i do do do to. work more.
5:59 pm
the mission of newsworthy is to go to the people tell their side of the story our stories are well sourced we don't hide anything from the public and i don't think the mainstream media in this country can say that the average viewer. r.t. america has a different perspective so that we're not hearing one echo chamber that mainstream media is constantly spewing. we're not beholden to any corporate sponsor no one tells us what the cover how long the conference or how to say that's the beauty of our t.v. america. we give both sides we hear from both sides and we question more that . not letting anything get in your way to bring it home to the american people.
6:00 pm
on larry king you are watching our america question and more. greetings and salutation. lately my hawk watchers and feels like in every country state and city chaos and heartbreak. not only around the world but here in the united states as well there are many cities whose headlines only seem to reflect a city and a people under siege sometimes when their professional sports team wins a title or when the president makes a campaign stop folks living in these cities like chicago moreland's baltimore and now houston only seem to make the news cycles when there's murder of a station in their streets and all the difficulties and sorrows the citizens of these cities face on a day to day sometimes hour to hour basis are real.
