amount of funding needed for the people of texas we were going to have to raise the debt ceiling now me as a republican i don't like hearing that but if that's the case then if that's the way you know it has to go this route so that way those people can get the help that they need at a quicker pace so be it they're connecting it to hurricane aid which is out of political death still i mean that good on him for a while well it's hard to tell at this point listen donald trump's model his brand is he's a deal maker and it's something he has failed to be able to successfully portray for is entire presidency this shows he's willing to make a deal even with democrats he's willing to do that he annoyed some of the republicans on the right but he got his deal and perhaps even playing to a larger game down the road putting together a grander deal and saying look i'm trying to work with all parties amy let's talk back on for a moment is the president softening his position on this was this move just to get

clashed with police in south korea over the deployment of bad missiles or to jacqueline bogo reports tonight. you know the. it's reported that there are around four hundred demonstrators there who were protesting the deployment of four additional rocket launchers of the u.s. missile defense system and they clash with the police now the protesters protesters reportedly trying to break into the administrative building of the u.s. base but were unsuccessful the local media has reported that dozens of residents and several police officers in fact have been injured in this class clashes and they've been taken to a nearby hospital a number of arrests have also been made at the demonstrations around eight thousand policemen were sent to the area in the south of the country near the future site of the rocket launchers some three hundred kilometers southeast of the capital now

north korea into a corner. now it's evident that there are some differences between the south korean and the russian position here the south korean government of course do favor a strengthening of u.n. sanctions against north korea particularly targeting the oil sector something that will very much as an escalation in this crisis the russians of course have favored deploying we've seen it go she should long term and that still seems to be the case aside from that it's very much business as usual here for quite literally there's delegations here from over fifty countries several thousand people in attendance here hoping to sign trade and business deals last year that equaled about thirty two billion dollars so very much significance in the asia pacific region. for more on the situation in north korea tonight we're joined by jim jatra former u.s. diplomat jim nice to have you on board united flight amir put down he seems to be are merging as a possible problem solver here there are reports that he may end up meeting with

some north korean representatives that of course would be something no one else on the globe has done from a superpower perspective what's evolving here what do you make of it well i think look if he could pull a rabbit out of his hat on this and talk to both careers and put something together . as opposed to the impasse we have now it would be really something i think that's going to be a very tall order because frankly i don't think the south koreans are really independent actors here and that to a very great extent their options are determined from washington and i don't see them pulling apart from us there was a split between the president of south korea and president putin and that was on sanctions the south koreans that's what the saying it's how big a deal is that i don't think is that big a deal because the chinese and the russians won't go along with the sanctions the what the president moon of south korea says really doesn't matter in this context so the elevation is taking place the united states is willing to arm south korea

and japan and sell arms to him and they're even talking about nukes on the peninsula. where where is the default and did the deflation in all of this is there isn't and that's why i think you see these demonstrations now in south korea with the completion of the thread deployment of all we're getting is threats of counter threats and it doesn't seem to is any deescalation scenario that anybody in washington is entertaining no lawmaker on either side of the aisle in this town is standing up saying president trump this is what you need to do. i find that really interesting no one is going in front of cameras to say and let's put a diplomatic team together not to say that that's the answer but there is no solution of coming from capitol hill why not i a couple things what is i think the idea has been so thoroughly discredited not deservedly so but discredited in the in the in the political imagination in this town that dialogue is bad that's what led us to that's that's what obama did and i

don't see the democrats changing the. narrative either and frankly i maybe i'm a little bit too conspiratorial here ed i think a lot of people would like to see a disaster they can blame on donald trump well donald trump is now talking about trade barriers the you win is also considered an oil embargo how much more financial strain can you put on an isolated country already do you think the u.n. security council will go along with an oil embargo on north korea and of course not and that the russians have said no already the chinese won't go along with it but the real sanctions argument is not so much with the security council can do to north korea but what that united states will consider saying sions against china in particular and the chinese are not going to do anything that's contrary to their national security interest which is to bring down the north korea what more can president trump say without taking action that we've never seen saber rattling at this level arms sales to countries in the region trade threats of deals being you

know the trade deal with even south korea we've got a terrible steel situation with south korea they're dumping on our market yet we're supposed to be protecting them against the north this is the strangest scenario that i think the world's ever see it even though we spend a bigger percentage of our g.d.p. on military and south korea does which is right there next to north korea with forty times their g.d.p. if they don't pony up for their own defense but they do eat our lunch when it comes to a trade deal look that could be a back door for president trump to start talking a trade deal with south korea. maybe that forces the south koreans to divorce themselves a little bit from us and pursue their own interests here right now i think they're stuck is it too much of a risk for the president of the united states to say and i'm going to seoul i don't think it's too much of a risk but i would it would be too much of a risk is independence that nobody wants to take and certainly the people of vising the president say why not consider other alternative wind on this double to double freeze offered by the chinese it's always
