but squeak we must. other news tonight the cvo says it needs more time to report on the graham cassidy bill as republican senate leadership tries to bribe the remaining republican holdouts and the currents in iraq hold a referendum on independence as the united states is accused of a war crime or an airstrike on civilians in syria and north korea's foreign minister says president trump has declared war on his nation and is prepared to take countermeasures. reporting tonight from washington d.c. this is the news on r.t. america.
11:01 pm
good evening friends we start tonight with the senate g.o.p.'s last ditch effort to win support for the graham cassady health care bill the effort was dealt a major setback the saving senator collins of maine announced that she would not support the bill calling it deeply flawed the bill was already a life support his republican leadership took to bribing senators who opposed the bill up to six of the fifty two republican members of the senate opposed the bill changes to the bill would send more money to alaska arizona and maine all of which have senators who oppose the bill senators were met with an angry opposition today on capitol hill by citizens who would be severely impacted if the legislation goes through they gathered in protest inside the halls of congress and outside offices several protesters were arrested meanwhile the congressional budget office has released a report tonight saying that it needs more time to come to hard. conclusions on
11:02 pm
just how many americans would lose their coverage under the bill the report says coverage would drop drastically start again twenty twenty but it is currently own clear how states might use the block grants and would impact what impact it would have under the number of people insured lindsey graham says he's trying to change the health care system before it implodes satch matter to all of their futures our future we're all in it together we don't look at one slice of pie and say i demand everything and nobody else gets anything so we can't be a nation that spends all this money on the area of society these are facts and people don't like the facts but the twenty forty two. medicare and medicaid take all the future revenue streams unless you reform to obamacare is failing in my state and everywhere else i'm not taking money out of the system i'm giving it to a different group of people to see if they can do better. tensions have risen to
11:03 pm
the boiling point on the korean peninsula north korea's foreign minister claims president trump declared war on his country on twitter this weekend middle of channels been following this story i tell you this is the pinnacle of hot rhetoric between these two countries it has been like a ping pong match back and forth that's right had my how times have changed right when world leaders are alleging declarations of war by social media but before we get ahead of ourselves white house press secretary sarah how could be sanders took to the lectern today and stated in no uncertain terms we are not at war with north korea not declared war on north korea and frankly the suggestion of that is absurd but white house senior restraint to shoot down u.s. aircraft even if it's not their space right it's never appropriate for a country to shoot down another country's aircraft when it's over international waters our goal is still the same we continue to seek the peaceful the nuclearization of the korean peninsula that's our focus doing that through both the
11:04 pm
most maximum economic and diplomatic pressure is possible at this point now a lot of people unnerved earlier today when the north korean foreign minister riad ho told the press you know the world including all member states currently attending the united nations general assembly must clearly remember that this time america declared war on us first the u.n. charter acknowledges all member states independent rights to self-defense. because the united states declared war you know even if u.s. strategic bombers do not intrude into our air we will possess the right to respond in self-defense including the right to launch at a random time and drop the strategic bombers and that was in response to the president's increased war of words on his favorite social media site taking to twitter saying just heard foreign minister of north korea speaking at u.n. if he echoes thoughts of little. rocket man they won't be around much longer and
11:05 pm
add just this evening the pentagon released a statement finally speaking up saying quote if north korea doesn't stop their provocation all provocation actions you know we will make sure that we provide options to the president to deal with north korea and that was from colonel robert manning so both sides ratcheting it up nobody's bringing down the tempers on either side in the senators on capitol hill quiet about this i just really amazing thanks manila. the entire middle east is anticipating results soon from iraq kurdistan is referendum on independence the vote finish early this evening and results are expected between now in women's day exit polling suggests the referendum will easily pass most of iraq's neighbors oppose the referendum including iran syria and turkey turkish troops have been conducting drills along the border with iraq meanwhile the government in baghdad prohibited the vote but without success for
11:06 pm
more on the impact of the vote its results in the region we go tonight to jack rice former cia agent who has extensive experience in that region and also namo abdul who is the washington bureau chief for the kurdish network rebell great to have both of you with us tonight namo start with you first what do you what is your gut feeling is this because this happened in two thousand and five and the vote was ignored what's different this time around well in two thousand and five it was conducted by and in geo it was not as official as it is today even though. legally it's not a binding referendum. government has not approved of it but president barzani of the kurdistan region has said it is binding in other words president has said that soon as you know that a friend the passes he will start secession negotiations with baghdad so that means after this referendum from tomorrow the. the business will not be as usual between
11:07 pm
kurdistan and baghdad is that he is not expected to to remain in iraq the same way it has been. and he's expected to see us negotiations to declare independence for the six million people in the north of the country and jack rice this kicks off a whole new can of worms down the road doesn't mean the the current one a country isn't going to happen yeah you know if you're right the fear is that this is a ripple effect we're talking about six million people who are kurds in northern iraq but there's another six million or so in iran there's another couple million in syria there's fourteen and a half million in turkey there's some in armenia i mean the fear is that if one gets independence what about the others what's the possibility of a larger greater sort of this is you i'm going to we're going to have already said they go to war i don't mean to interrupt you but there's an issue of loyalty here is that what you're bringing up i mean what about the what about the kurds in syria who are already autonomous. yeah that's exactly the point is that if one
11:08 pm
starts to get truly autonomy and really a country of their own does this mean they actually band together remember the turks have already said they will go to war over this they said they would cut the pipeline that goes to kirk cook we've already seen the iranians have stopped flights into erbil i mean you're seeing all of these countries pushing back because well frankly this is all about what happened with the history of the treaty of versailles in one nine hundred nineteen here is an example where they were being cut the lines they cut the borders a bunch of europeans did it and guess what they're still arguing they're still fighting about the very same issue there you go namo what about area one in turkey how aggressive do you think you'll be on the heels of this vote well you know it is actually kind of surprising for iraqi. how kind of harsh rhetoric we are hearing from present and on because as you know that turkey the kurdistan region have
11:09 pm
had excellent trade and economic relations over the past few years and you know we have expected this but it seems that. claim will argument that he's only in the fight against the p.k. care a designated terrorist group is actually collapsing into it here is that he's in a fight against all the kurdish people he's always made the argument that he's not in a fight that is all that could he's only if you know fight against that that but what if he's recently his rationale behind opposing this referendum apart from the fact it is held by a group of people called the kurds all right jack. donald trump the president has been on record saying that the kurds have been the most loyal and were those the united states stand and has that effect the conflict with isis because that is the big goal for the united states to defeat isis in possibly partner with russia to get some positive things happening how does our own pack all of that for us. that's
11:10 pm
part of what makes it so hard it is the best fighters in the region are the kurdish peshmerga we look at the y p g that they are the best fighters the closest allied to the americans and so the americans are very close with the kurds when it comes to this issue and they know that they can depend upon them and yet you go north of the turkish border and the p.k. k. are essentially their cousins and the turks see them as one in the same i almost got arrested in the arbor occur covering this issue because they were looking to kill kurds not just in turkey but south of the border into iraq and so you have this problem the americans are calling the p.k. k. terrorists the turks are calling the terrorists but they're related brethren the y.p. g r freedom fighters now and how do you reckon a really sort of unpack that great insight tonight gentlemen jack rice. great to have you with us here on this very important topic appreciate it. on sunday the
11:11 pm
white house announced an updated version of the administration's travel ban the new ban restricts travel from chad in africa as well as north korea venezuela while removing sudan's cmon del rosario has the latest on this tonight. president donald trump's travel ban was comprised of six countries iran it yemen somalia syria sudan and libya now the version allowed by the supreme court temporarily blocked all travel from these countries with exception to dual nationals and those with immediate family or a work or study program in the united states now this new presidential proclamation imposes indefinite restrictions and features many of the same original countries and some new faces sudan has been dropped on the list while north korea venezuela and chad have been added now let's take a look at some of the newcomers starting with north korea and its leader kim jong un who many could argue has become trump's biggest adversary in the presidential
11:12 pm
proclamation trump says north korea does not cooperate with the united states government in any respect and fails to satisfy all information sharing requirements for proper betting therefore all entry into the united states by north korea nationals is suspended of course this ban is largely symbolic north koreans are not typically allowed to travel outside the country and according to reports the u.s. issued just one hundred visas to north koreans last year half of which were for diplomats the next country's government has also been at odds with the trumpet ministration according to the latest order from the white house venezuela's government is uncooperative in verifying whether its citizens pose national security or public safety threats trump says it also fails to adequately share terrorism related information but because there are alternative sources to verify citizenship and the identity of venezuela nationals the visa restrictions the us has imposed focus on government officials of venezuela who trump says are responsible for these security inadequacies he's talking about so that prevents
11:13 pm
officials and immediate family members from getting business and tourist visas now the third edition is chad an african country just south of libya which is also on the list trump says chad is an important and valuable counterterrorism partner of the united states but that it does not. adequately shared public safety and terrorism related information therefore and tree into united states of nationals of chad on business and tourist visas is here by suspended until that can be result last we have sudan which was dropped from the list of extreme vetting this time around without any explicit reason why now the thought is that the country has met the security standards and its latest review on the new rules which will take effect october eighteenth trump tweeted that making america safe is my number one priority we will not admit those into our country we cannot safely vet trumps the original travel ban was met with outrage and lawsuits that have taken the cases all the way to the supreme court the highest court in the land was set to hear oral arguments from both sides early next month but the supreme court has now canceled
11:14 pm
those arguments after this new proclamation and asking both sides to write short legal briefs addressing whether this new presidential order renders the old cases moot for the news with ed schultz i'm see modellers ario reporting from washington d.c. . and germany chancellor angela merkel has secured another parliamentary victory merkel's party has secured less seats and at any time since one thousand nine hundred nine her christian democrats control now two hundred forty six seats almost seventy years less than previously held the social democrats control the second most seats in one hundred fifty three meanwhile the right wing anti immigration party alternative for germany is entering paul are meant for the first time with almost one hundred seats merkel believes her party must change to win back voters who support right wing parties. of course we were hoping for a better overall result and of course we analyzed as far as possible the migration
11:15 pm
of voters we lost about one point three million voters to the free democratic party and about one million voters to the alternative for germany party in particular with regard to the voters our aspiration is to win them back. through good politics and problem solving. canada believes it is making progress in rewriting nafta trade deals with the united states canadian negotiators steve or you'll said that the negotiations are perceiving quickly although it's too early to know when or if the united states will make an announcement many controversial issues remain unresolved including canada's supply management for dairy in poultry and scrapping nafta dispute settlement process for more on this we turn to lori wallach tonight director of public citizens of global trade watch laurie nice to have you back with us what's on resolved because it sounds like in this story there's just so much
11:16 pm
canada so much united states not a lot of talk about mexico i guess canada in the united states have never really had any big differences what's going on here. there are a lots of unresolved issues. there are actual now left over issues that the us mexico and canada been fighting over since the original agreement there are demands from all sides but particularly from the trumpet ministration earth respect to the big picture issues bringing down the trade deficit getting rid of the corporate investor state tribunals where foreign corporations can attack our domestic laws getting rid of the rules that promote offshoring getting rid the back end by america and these demands in addition to the irritants exist left over from the old nafta have made for really complicated scutcheon so if you just have the sense that the canadians really protect jobs and the americans are more worried about profit.
11:17 pm
job protection this is what trump has been talking about what he would do you know carrier in indianapolis and i understand he's going to be there again this week talking about this how does that old boy it's a very interesting situation i think the new trade representative who's a guy named robert lighthouse or is actually in the next to try and fix a trade deficit and create american jobs but he is pardon ministration that has a lot of folks who supported the original nafta supported the t p p plus he's got the republicans in congress who don't want to change much of anything because as you said the big corporations who supported nafta are in it just for their profits they care about what's going to happen to working people and so the question is can the u.s. formulate positions that congress won't the republicans in congress won't blow up that they can actually get the other countries to agree to actually improve the now after for working people in all three countries it's a big question how much you know how much the terrorist play into all of this
11:18 pm
especially with the canadians very little there are hardly any tariffs laughed i mean this is the big myth about nafta when all of the. the corporations that use the offshoring protections and all the other corporate privileges to make a lot of money when they sue if nafta went away prices would zoom that is both loney if you get rid of nafta one hundred percent right now there are almost no tariffs left because in the twenty years since it was in acted. ok man and brought all those high tariffs down so it's not like consumers would pay more so if the deal the way it sits right now on the table what we know of it is there much difference would this be a win for the top administration something that he of course ripped in the nafta saying it was a worse trade deal ever and he was going to fix it what about that too early to know literally the country so they've just finishing the third round of negotiations are going super fast for a trade agreement but it's the third round there's still even suggesting each other
11:19 pm
hey i want can't live with that let's change that they haven't really gotten down to the brass tax and in fact not even all the demands are on the table so it's way too early to know they're right lori wallach great to have you with us thanks so much. eleven are confirmed dead of heat related complications at the cell florida nursing home in hollywood in the wake of hurricane irma now florida governor rick scott may be implicated in the disaster for more on this we go live to r.t. correspondent marina portnoy in miami arena. and a critical piece of evidence related to the deaths of eleven florida nursing home patients has been destroyed by the governor's office thirty six hours before the first patient at the rehabilitation center at hollywood hills died staff members reportedly left for voice mails on governor rick scott's personal cell phone pleading for immediate assistance in storing their air conditioning system a spokesperson for the governor's office says the voice mails were deleted after
11:20 pm
information from each message was collected by the governor's staff and given to the proper agency for handling mr scott's office says. that deletion was done in accordance with the state's public records law insisting the existence of the voice mails doesn't change the fact that this facility chose not to call nine one one or evacuate their patients to the hospital across the street after three days of living without air conditioning now hurricane erma report of the reportedly knocked out power to the nursing home on september tenth the transformer supporting the air conditioning system was also damaged three days later the one hundred fifty two bed facility was evacuated after patients began suffering a myriad of health issues allegedly triggered by the sweltering temperatures inside five patients reportedly died at the scene and at least dozen more would die in the hours and days that followed the cause of death is still being investigated governor scott claims at no point did anyone from the nursing home suggest there
11:21 pm
was a crisis or that patients were in danger now that's impossible to confirm since the voice mails from the hollywood hills facility have been deleted in the meantime the governor has cut off medicaid and medicare funding for the nursing home and suspended its license at going to be a lot more to the story thanks marina reimport ny reporting tonight from miami former new york congressman anthony weiner was sentenced to twenty one months in federal prison today for sexting with a minor in may when are pleaded guilty to federal court to the charge of showing obscene material to a minor wiener will now be required to register as a sex offender and will be subject to three years probation after his prison sentence the former congressman has been the center of the scandal since two thousand and eleven when a lewd picture appeared on his twitter account at the time he said he had been attacked hillary clinton's private server first came to light when the congressman's ex-wife who averaged him forwarded him e-mails containing classified

information. and the hottest conversation in the country the last few days has been the president of the. i did states versus the national football league over two hundred players protested during the national anthem on sunday after the president took aim at some of the players for disrespecting the flag and the anthem tom brady the n.f.l.'s premier player called the president's comments divisive patriots owner bob kraft who supported trump and donated to his campaign said he didn't like the tone the president insists he's calling for the league to fire players who protest and it's not about race it's about respect for the country president's not talking about race the president is talking about pride in our country. what you saw yesterday were players and fans of all races joining together as americans to honor our service members that's what the president's talking about that's what his focus is on. for more on this let's turn to our panel tonight ted harvey committee to
11:23 pm
defend the president and rob top aggressive talk show host and huff post contributor gentlemen good to have you with us tonight ted i'll go to you first is there merit in what the president is saying he said this at a rally an alabama for a candidate that he is supporting in the senate race to replace jeff sessions it was a rather an odd place to bring this up i don't know if it has anything to do with that senate race but is there merit to what the president is saying if he says it's about respect for the flag of the country in the military what about that. well certainly i wish we were talking about everything that you've been talking about on this show for the last twenty five minutes north korea and and what's going on in iraq with the kurds and everything else but i do believe that the american people are frustrated with what they're seeing with sports athletes that are taking political stands on the field and disrespecting not only the flag but the constitution and i think as the son of a vietnam era fighter pilot i do find that offensive but i think we need to be
11:24 pm
focusing on the more important issues rather than focusing on something like this the president says it's not about race rob tom what do you think. in a way it's not about race it's about something even bigger we're living in a b. movie and it's called donald trump versus the first amendment he wants to squash the first amendment laws he doesn't understand i really don't think he comprehends what freedom of speech is either is he crazy or is he crazy like a fox i really can't figure it out yet but i know that he has no policy he has no plan and he has no strategy so he just inserts chaos into the political daily spectrum ted does he want the president clearly said he wants in a fellow owners to fire people that protest the anthem isn't that as rob says going against freedom of speach. well i don't think he was saying he wants them to i think he's implying that if he were the employee of these employees he would fire
11:25 pm
them well he said they should fire the son of bitch that's what he said that's that's right and that's not saying the government is going to fire them the first amendment is there to protect people against the government not against their employees if i worked for u.p.s. and i had a bumper sticker supporting donald trump on my truck as i was driving for u.b.s. i'd expect to be fired for doing that and donald trump is simply saying for these people that are who are disrespecting the flag and those who have fought for our flag that they should be fired and i think the majority of americans believe you should be mixing business with politics if you want to be an employee of that company rob what about the players using the n.f.l. as a platform to do this and i guess my question is it a fair question to ask how much activism on this is you have is it fair to ask how much activism have they actually done outside standing up in protest during the national anthem what's ironic is i think that column copper that had been a secondary issue i cover sports
11:26 pm
a lot in my column i then really particularly care for cap or agree with them but now i'm completely on this side dollar trump took an issue that was a non issue and he's he's divided us and united a lot of people like me that really didn't feel strongly about this because he's bringing the first amendment into it so he's taken an issue that was small and turned it into something huge and grandiose i think to misdirect us from things like health care where he's failing militar about ted. ted i mean why did the president go down this road if you mention we've got so many important issues in this country in the world one in the world would he go down this road and create such a hornet's nest here. i honestly can't answer that question he was that you're the chameleon a friend the president you better can figure that want out. i haven't sat down to talk to the president about why about this you can ask. is there a huckabee about that that's her job my job is to defend the president's policies
11:27 pm
and i agree one hundred percent with the policies but why he would bring up this issue political rally i can answer that and rob job do understand the firman behind it rob we're seeing a photo go after this i mean are they going to evolve as the vehicle of change for the criminal justice system in this country i mean this is a big social bite here in a big issue that there's that they're standing on. the n.f.l. is strong and united there are strong union they've got powerful wealthy owners many of whom were trump supporters and are conservative so whether they're culturally wrong or right they're legally right and they're they're going away and donald trump always backs the wrong horse and it's going to end up disastrous for him and unfortunately i'm afraid sometimes for our country this really frightens me and just so you know in case you haven't seen this when i was in the green or my notice he's tweeting now that general kelly his chief of staff is in agreement with him about all this yet there's no word for kellett from kelly and i'm really
11:28 pm
