declared war on the north korea can shoot down bombers even if they're not over north korean air space but it's pretty troubling this back and forth bantering and war of words and you know if it were a reality television show and somebody was being kicked off an island or fired it might be mildly entertaining but we're talking about firing missiles in this case so it's deadly serious and you know the two just act to me both the pros both presidents seem to just tweet and talk and taunt like high school bullies and i don't see much diplomacy even in the offing so i'm concerned about it right you wouldn't be alone on that let's take a listen to some of the line items on these sanctions how about energy an oil well on energy and oil the u.n. put sanctions on earlier this month this is will be the previous time since. nine

previous times i'm sorry since two thousand and six where they placed sanctions on north korea because of the nuclear proliferation program but with regard to oil petroleum they reduce the amount of refined products from four to two point five million barrels a day that could come into north korea right they didn't do as much on the raw crude oil they left that sort of frozen the u.s. was arguing to cut that down for whether or not it's having any impact it remains to be seen right now there are some gas lines in north korea but only eleven out of every thousand people in north korea even has a car so they could just be you know hoarding and stocking up so we'll have to see on the energy in the petrochemicals right another area that people don't seem to think a lot about are textiles and north korea and how it might be suffering and be impacted by that that that's their number two export textiles and what happens there is a lot of companies and these aren't just companies from nearby and southeast asia

these are companies garment cunt companies right holland germany france china so they'll ship them to china for the low cost of labor but then china which has a higher cost of labor than even north korea ships it into north korea right the average per capita income in north korea is a thousand dollars a year in china it's eight thousand just across the border by the way in south korea it's twenty seven thousand so they're really poor people and they work for peanuts now the question is whether or not these sanctions that the u.n. put in place will actually be hold up because there's a port there along that eight hundred eighty mile border with china and the in the province or the town rather of dandong and that's a major export and supposedly even though these sanctions are in place they could smuggle across the river at night winds right so we'll have to see on textiles what are your biggest concerns here just as you watch this. whether or not your opinion

sort of an account of it well other than nuclear war there is there is a obviously no i mean i am concerned that these new sanctions that were put in place last week by the president and the executive orders that those really are adhered to and that is with regard to the financial institutions that no bank whatsoever and some of the largest banks in the world that. will be doing business with north korea otherwise they'll be on a blacklist and the treasury department the u.s. says the office of foreign asset control and they actually put companies and individuals on this black list and once you're there nobody can do any business with them so it could be a big deal while all these sanctions to date really haven't seemed to have a horrible impact and certainly not anything this deterred all this wild talk i'm hopeful that this really will these new sanctions really will do something that doesn't seem to be putting an end to any sort of volley of words back and forth

rocket man. those sorts of words what do you think about president trying to run a farm and well i mean i was not impressed i mean it was not diplomacy i mean the u.n. is a place where people are you know coming together made and all that supposed to be peaceful place right this isn't the place where you go when you talk bellicose bully and again i mean to pick up on the elton john thing i mean i think he keeps proving that you know he's a madman don't you know madman across the water both of them and that is not the type of diplomacy we need i don't know why they didn't sit down with three john ho the foreign minister of north korea and at least talk and not that they are going to come to any resolution but at least have a dialogue so now they're just talking past each other and i just i don't understand the game plan here and you know the president's focused on the n.f.l. in the flag instead of foreign policy so i'm not sure that anybody's in really firm

you lost a lot of votes to the a.f.p. which is the far right nationalist party in germany and they performed better than ever this past weekend on sunday german chancellor angela merkel won her fourth term in office that she has held since two thousand and five but her party the christian democratic union went about a third of votes demonstrating a pretty big decline in support in fact the cd you saw an eight point five percent drop in support in the last election meanwhile the alternative for germany party size seven point nine percent increase in support and the three democratic party which is expected to become part of the coalition government also saw a significant jump in backing since two thousand and thirteen while coalition talks will begin soon one group we won't see involved is the social democratic party martin scholz who leads the social democrats ruled the party out of consideration and wants to remain as the opposition party in parliament while that decision has

owned businesses is one of the remarkable trends over the past decade you've pointed out that it's had more than one hundred percent increase. what do you think is the reason for this what pushed this was it an ending of stigma was it tax breaks a societal acceptance of this social. economic i think a couple of things number one coming out of the recession i think a lot of black women and women of color couldn't find opportunities at the same level so they were put out of work they had to continue to feed their families and they created opportunities i didn't exist before and then number two the staying power that they have i think is related to the social media and to technology and how they're able to tap into kind of entirely new business people followers and you know fans who are able to buy products that they can produce so whether you're into a manicure as you're into hair care products you have a whole new world of people that you didn't have before technology was so prevalent

what kind of incentives do we need for small business so to really be able to reinvest in their companies especially women oh my goodness so we do need tax reform particularly we need tax corporate tax cuts but also individual tax cuts what i think a lot of people miss is the fact that many small business owners are not big corporations they're actually people who do their taxes on their personal income tax as we call those passed through companies and so when you're giving them a tax break or a tax cut they're able to reinvest that money right into their caught into their businesses and i think we've seen estimates that the average american family will save about a thousand dollars in taxes if they get tax cuts done and that's a lot for the american family what have been some of the biggest hurdles for female business owners in america and i know over the years minorities have had a very hard time getting started because of discrimination and not just being a woman but being a minority as well and what have been the biggest hurdles for them i see for you need networks of people to encourage you to help you find opportunities you need to

get over that fear of failure i mean and you also need people just to help you support your business but i think the biggest one is access to capital most minority owned businesses owned by women are self funding meaning that they are tied there and they're building their business as a side hustle or as a side job. but actually right and so when they have more money in there from their paychecks they're able to put that into their business and hopefully transition into something permanent and full time rather than just kind of splitting their time chances of seeing this get noticeable play on capitol hill health care north korea. the list goes on tax reform is being pushed forward the g.o.p. says let's focus on slashing corporate and individual taxes do you think there's enough focus on slashing. taxes as are aimed at small companies and women owned companies i think there is a congress can walk and chew gum at the same time and while i mean the most recent

health care repeal and replace effort just came up last week again they've been pretty laser focused on trying to figure out how do we cut taxes how do we also reform our tax code to make it less arcane and to take that stress off small businesses and so i think that they're going to they're going to they're going to get it done and i listen to tax senators staffers on the hill who are actually writing the bills and they're saying it's going to take some time but we think that we can get it done and there's a lot of outside pressure right now pushing for this occupational licenses at the state level we both know the side household the side there's a lot of women trying to get cosmetology licenses. massage therapy licenses what do you think of these requirements and the cost to female business owners this is actually the one bipartisan issue in washington d.c. i mean president obama in two thousand and fifteen said these occupational licenses cost millions of jobs and cost increase in costs for is for people who are buying the services so it takes and it takes opportunity away from women from immigrants

in particular from people who have a record and so you know they're meant to be kind of just barriers or requirements for you to get into a field. of work that you like or vocation but they end up holding people back and so i'm really excited at the state level to see how many state legislatures and governors are saying we need to take a look at whether the. the requirements make sense do you need one hundred hours of instruction and two thousand dollars just to learn how to cut nails or to wash to be a washer in a salon you probably don't so let's let's make it a little bit easier or entirely get rid of those occupational i specially since with a lot of these salons now that you bring up bring on apprentices you know people that are willing to learn under the ownership and that's just something you and i have probably heard a lot about let's talk with new york times article made the case the best era for working women was twenty years ago the late ninety's and you find that to be true i laughed because i remember how right i was generally but i didn't want her life i

mean i thought it was what she did was amazing and she had a great career but she also seemed really better a little bit angry that she wasn't getting to experience all of the life milestones that other women had i think millennial women we read these articles and we recognize yes women are not where they could be but they're also not where they have been in the past and so what are some of the things that are holding us back some of them may not even be holding us there they just may be our choices and when we decide to leave the workforce to to have children to have families and then there are other things that may be external factors that have an impact on our on our work trajectory but i read that new york times article and i laughed because you know what if you asked a middle aged woman today whether she would want to be murphy brown or she would want to be in the position she is today i'm pretty sure she would say she's much better off right now i think there's also been advocates in the following generation of work life balance and how important is to have a family you don't want to be a widow to your job and i think there's a lot more advocacy for that do you also point to health care costs child
