example was actually the city of. it's a kurdish city in turkey and it's gone through a very big destruction and he used this as an example of what awaits the kurdistan regional government right now of course i see this is an empty threat considering the fact that they or one of the biggest partners trading partners of the kurdistan regional government i don't think i'd run is going to jeopardize this relationship and of course the course original government also is the second largest partner trading partner of turkey nearly ten billion dollars including you know mostly oil so i don't think our god is going to jeopardize this relationship he's just trying to kind of. scare the kurdish population within his own borders. turkish borders you bring up the oil and we know that there is hundreds of turkish companies that operate in kurdistan and the proposed kurdish state includes the.

city so is that a focal point of conversation absolutely i mean one of his threats was that he was going to shut down the pipelines those oil pipelines from the kurds side original government and starve them to death that's what the ground was threatening with but i really don't think that this is and this is a legitimate threat this is actually concluding his point of view it's not the matter of fighting against the p.k. k. it's a kurdish freedom movement in turkey so he's main target is not the p.k. here his main target is the kurdish nation in general so he's actually mentioned in believe two thousand and six or two thousand and seven even in south africa he would not let the kurds form a kurdish nation kurdish state interesting and what about the united nations i mean they were reiterating their concerns as well that this would possibly destabilize

the region what are their concerns all kurds or the most reliable allies of the west especially against the fight in the fight against isis so. i find that really not very legitimate because as i said kurds have stabilized the region not only in iraq but also in syria in the fight against isis in the fight against terrorism in general and. in syria again so supporting the kurds will only stabilize the region not destabilize the region think about it so there's concern the u.s. also state department also mentioned that the main focus is to fight against isis while kurds have been fighting against isis for for years now so this has never ever affected this. in fact because of the fact that they were part of iraq they were not able to receive any heavy equipments any heavy weapons from from the

quality forces directly from the quality forces it had to go through baghdad because they were not an independent state so this will fast in the process this will smooth in the fight against isis and so if this vote is recognized what does this mean for the kurds how will this change their lives that's a that's a very good question and i would like to start of by saying that kurds have been hungry for an independent state for the last hundred years at least ever since the world war one and they were divided in into four different countries and of course kurds have been very peaceful they have not really been a significant threat to their neighboring countries in fact they supported their internal problems to solve the internal problems so this will only make their life lives easier and. economically culturally because they are facing

began joining what ever group they could to get armed and save their women save their children save and rescue the people who were kidnapped by isis and to try and really protect themselves so that nothing like this would ever happen to them again and so since that day it is these have joined both the as well as the p.k. k. . and his e.t.s. who joined the p.k. k. back in two thousand and fourteen were actually punished by iraqi kurdistan their families are just place families were kicked out of erbil and a hook if they joined the p.k. k. or any other rival faction and then recently this year in may the p.m.s. the popular mobilization forces which is the paramilitary forces of the iraqi government that formed in the aftermath of isis taking over large swaths of iraq you see the sort of join the p.f. in droves and many of them are defecting from both the peshmerga and the p.k. k. because the p.m.s. launched

a campaign to liberate are some forty percent of our was still in the hands of isis and so you see these have been joining the p.f. in droves for a couple reasons one so again like i said they can protect their areas get armed be able to save their relatives from isis but also so that they can make sure that this never happens to them again but most importantly he's used to be very pro kurdistan and they see themselves as a part of the kurdish project because the murder of retreated and left them to. listen abandon them in two thousand and fourteen they now see an alignment with the iraqi central government as the best way forward especially because they want autonomy over soon jar and so they see an alignment with the iraqi central government as the best way to basically gain local control over their area and now since your is a strategic place that both the kurdistan regional government and baghdad are seeking control over where do you see the future of send your head in since it's not seen fit for civilian return at the moment well right now some jar is split

between three different factions that split between the iraqi government in the south and are it's basically in the hands of the p.m.s. . and then northern jar is split between the majority of it is in the hands of the iraqi regional iraqi kurdistan regional governments persian or go forces. and there's a small slice of it that's in the hands of the p.k. the. which is a different kurdish backed group that's like a leftist international organization. and so it's a very very tense area because sin jar is so strategic for all of these players and strategic for the iraqi kurdistan regional government because they have they basically want to increase the size of kurdistan as one of the twenty six areas that they say are disputed and belong to kurdistan and in the aftermath of isis taking over large swaths of iraq that border to what's considered iraqi kurdistan they basically made this huge land grab and took about ninety percent of these

disputed territories to are included and the iraqi central government sees this area as very strategic because germs located next to the border with syria and so it's an extremely important strategic point in terms of preventing any future insurgency that may develop in that area after you know isis be defeated but that doesn't mean it's the end of the ideology or the sort of sunni extremist style insurgency that we've seen. come back really much harsher and more radical each time and have and so the iraqi central government wants to be in that area to prevent that from happening again i see and quickly we're running out of time but explain to us the notion that these edis are facing repression in kurdistan and what other minorities strongly oppose the kurdish referendum well kurdistan is it seems that you know for a lot of kurds in iraq it's something that they do support that said for the minorities who live in that area they do face discrimination and repression

including izzy's and many of them live in displaced person camps in iraqi kurdistan and they're basically loyalty to the dominant party in kurdistan the a k d p their aid to getting aid is conditioned on loyalty to that political party iraqi kurdistan is basically run by a couple different family families in a very mafia style way it's not exactly a democracy and also add on top of that you know any sort of an ethnic exclusivist state is going to by default and discriminating against those who don't belong to the dominant ethnicity in the area so it's not just is edis who receive discriminatory treatment from iraqi kurdistan but you also have that for the christians over there and also sunni arab several sunni arab villages that are in the areas that are considered disputed that iraqi kurdistan wants for its kurdish state several of those sunni arab villages under the cover of fighting isis have actually been burned down or have been ethnically cleansed of sunni arabs and so
