8:00 pm
and this is just the dance the right questions and the right answers. question. on the news tonight former trump advisor roger stone blasts congress and special counsel robert muller after testifying in front of the house intelligence committee today and the senate republicans failed for a third time to pass a health care bill and get rid of obamacare obamacare is here to stay for now and the kurds in iraq declare victory in their independence referendum as baghdad and its neighbors react furiously. reporting tonight from washington d.c. this is the news on r.t. america.
8:01 pm
good evening friends we start tonight with former trump adviser roger stone who took to the hill today and stood in testified in front of the house intelligence committee stone refused to hold his tongue after words on the issue of investigating russian meddling and collusion. after testimony it was a no holds barred take from roger stone flat out questioning the process they make the charges against you the public forum for maximum coverage to benefit their u.s. senate campaign for their reelection but then they only allowed you to respond keychain closed doors and they won't even allow the release of the principle that really put you would support a nearly one ferry ban stone made it clear on russian meddling in any involvement with the trump campaign mr. calhoun asked me directly if i had
8:02 pm
knowledge of. russian pollution pollution and a number of from. from. the from from the so shoots from friends from supporters and i said no. mr schiff said what i see but the flat. mr gary said. as for the special prosecutor robert muller stone says he has not been contacted but offered his theory of his work what's happening here is that good special counsel will try to manufacture. and say look this or we will prosecute you for this if you simply admit or colluded with the russians and knew every other words they are false witness against the president i've been in for. forty years i don't believe he's going to do that he's not going
8:03 pm
to lie that would be a lie. robert muller may begin interviewing white house staff as early as this week baller is reportedly interested in talking with staffers present when the president dictated donald trump's jr statement on a meeting with a russian lawyer back in two thousand and sixteen meanwhile the i.r.s. is sharing information already. hall man of fort and michael flynn with special councils investigative team the president weighed it back into the fight with the national football league this afternoon after a weekend of pushback from players and owners trump is standing his ground and wants the n.f.l. to go so far as to implement a policy about the anthem in flag i think it's a very important thing for the n.f.l. to not allow people to kneel during the playing of our national anthem to respect our country and to respect our flank last night the cowboys including owner jerry jones showed solidarity with other teams by protesting before the game jones
8:04 pm
explained his reversal on the issue first of all. thank you to say the city says that. you're supposed to respect the play. we all recognize is that. sure somebody is disappointed. we got to show the nation watch. unity. well you know i keep saying at the same time. i mean. the republicans a third effort to repeal and replace obamacare died today before ever reaching the floor they didn't have the votes the push for the grand cassidy bill died when several republican senators including susan collins john mccain and rand paul refused to support it the opportunity for a simple majority vote ends at the end of the fiscal year through reconciliation republicans say they are moving on to taxes what they will return to health care in
8:05 pm
the future we're coming back to this after taxes we're going to have time to explain our concept will have a better process and we're going to take this show on the road. i've been up here twenty years i never enjoyed anything more. i believe this is the most important thing i can ever do for the country of work and my colleagues is not to just repeal obamacare but to replace it with a system closer to where you live control about people you can vote for and we're going to get there. so the republicans say that they want to take this show on the road well this is the baggage they're going to be carrying and there is no question about that think about this they all say well they've been bad mouth on obamacare for the last seven years whoa whoa no wait a minute we have to go back to obama mccain
8:06 pm
8:07 pm
i just think that local control can do a lot better than the bureaucrats in washington wait a second this means that the governor we're going to have a lot to say about legislation about how your state is going to handle this block grant for medicaid and medicare really you want to trust scott walker and rick scott to come up with a better plan this is why we have federal protections so people in different portions of the country don't get the shaft and of course the savior in this is that there are thirty eight seats when it comes to gubernatorial elections coming up between now and two thousand and eighteen this might save the republicans
8:08 pm
because selling the rest of this would be awfully hard for more on this let's go to branded williams he's the c.e.o. of the new hampshire health care association brennan great to have you with us tonight what was the fail what was the failure of all of this i mean you're there over three the republicans after telling the americans they could have a better plan than obamacare unpack it for us. well practice has been made perfect they've had over seven and a half years since the ac a signing to come up with a credible alternative and once again blows up on the launch pad and in this case listening to what senator graham had to say earlier about how he'd never enjoyed himself more speaking on behalf of the several thousand nursing home caregivers and residents that i fight for every day i can say they've never been more terrified than they have been throughout this ordeal as you see this was this
8:09 pm
an attack on a social program more than anything else you know the republicans for years have wanted to go after the new deal you know they've always wanted to write just strip away any kind of government involvement at all they hate government programs was this an attack on medicaid as you say it i think it was speaker ryan has said that he first talked about cutting medicaid at a college kagan or and i don't know what kind of characters you went to back in college ed but i sure wasn't talking about eviscerating program far most vulnerable that dates back in one thousand nine hundred fifty five so this was really the culmination of some long standing ambitions on the part of very illogical republicans and it was really overreach i think if they'd focus squarely on the a c. a perhaps they could have gotten somewhere but again i still think they don't have a plan and really all they have is sound bytes moving forward where's the fix how
8:10 pm
is the fix. well i really hope that the alexander murray talks can resume in the help committee i'm not confident that they will i think that the individual market aspects of the ac a are extremely fragile right now medicaid expansion has obviously been a godsend to those states that have been braced but there's still a lot of aspects of the ac a that need shoring up and i'm afraid might collapse through sabotage by the administration or just willful neglect what's going to happen the affordable healthcare act now is in contract negotiations with states in providing what's this going to look like say six months from now. i think you're going to see a lot of rate increases in the individual market we've already seen the deductibles go up to a level that some bearable for many american families and you're going to also see
8:11 pm
the premiums go up and i think it's really really going to be challenging in a number of states where you have limited competition and the answer is to find some continuing subsidies for the risk and recognize the fragility of a system that depends upon state regulation in fifty different states not to go over an old bridge but what would have prevented all of this would have been the federal public option and that was not part of the affordable healthcare act your thoughts. well you know you look at it now and senator baucus who chaired the finance committee then in the senate really was an architect of the cia now concedes the time for single payer is now i think some measure at a minimum of a public option particularly in those areas that have very few private insurance choices is definitely something to consider unfortunately we're in a situation where congress is just paralyzed brandon williams c.e.o.
8:12 pm
the new hampshire health care association great to have you with us tonight thanks so much thank you present from paul visit puerto rico next tuesday meanwhile residents in florida are doing their very best to send aid to the caribbean island despite dealing with their own recovery efforts after hurricane irma artie's were reported i has more tonight a growing humanitarian crisis is unfolding in puerto rico where more than three point four million americans have lived for nearly one week without electricity and access to communication while many citizens remain without adequate food water and fuel the u.s. president has been criticized for not paying enough attention to the devastation hurricane maria caused on the island in the midst of puerto rico's recovery mode the president tweeted monday night about the island's seventy four billion dollar debt this afternoon mr trump said puerto ricans are a great people and announced plans to visit the island october third tuesday seems
8:13 pm
to be the first time we can do without really disrupting first responders and the efforts of the big made people we have shipped massive amounts of food and water and supplies to puerto rico and we are continuing to do without an hourly basis the u.s. leader has signed a female waiver indicating the government will assume one hundred percent of the recovery costs for puerto rico however president trump has denied a request to waive shipping restrictions to help get fuel and supplies to the island saying it. do nothing to address the island's main impediments the jones act to limit shipping between coast to u.s. flagged vessels the department of homeland security waived for texas and florida after hurricanes harvey and irma puerto rico's governor ricardo say oh says aid shipments into the island are beginning to increase expressing confidence president trump will aid the island's recovery process and i can guarantee to everybody that the city the president has called has pledged to his support and we we have an
8:14 pm
expectation of talking to him again today about the next part that will be taken so the president is very much aware we are confident that we will get the resources to ten thousand federal relief workers are currently in puerto rico conducting a search and rescue mission helping to bring electricity to homes and hospitals however the island is still in the dark and many towns are in need of more medical assistance. there's been a growing number of patients coming to emergency room because other services aren't available to the public as people take to the streets to perform recovery efforts and suffer accidents or other insects. it's like there's no hope you know i haven't found a hope. that. i'm pretty. meanwhile nearly one hundred thousand people have signed an online petition calling for the
8:15 pm
navy to send its hospital ship to the island to provide medical relief for puerto ricans in need of care officials say the island is facing months of rebuilding and potentially billions of dollars in costs to restore infrastructure and services after enduring one of the strongest hurricanes to ever hit u.s. soil reporting from miami marina r.t. for more on all of this let's turn to our political panel the saved include dawn jones former georgia state representative is with us and also a radio talk show host at a w r in new york mark simone great to have both of you with us here tonight you know at the trump press conference today the president was selling pretty hard about what a great effort is being made you look at the highlight tape you hear what people are saying down there don what do you make of this is the united states doing enough. i you know it's hard to be critical of our country when we're in such a great and dire need after such
8:16 pm
a extreme circumstance however just as the tape mentioned you why are we giving a different way to puerto rico than we are to to houston and other places we need to open the floodgates and allow what ever is necessary for the devastation that occurred there needs to focus he is focused far too much on things that he should not be focused on like the n.f.l. and rather he needs to focus his attention on our marriage kids who are in the mark speaking of focus the president said today that he is not this focus that he has been paying attention to what's going on how far should the united states go and all of these relief efforts while he was in the n.f.l. was a few seconds here and there i know today in the white house that was the entire day focusing on the puerto rico and the relief efforts it's a very tough situation only got the whole electrical grid out you've got all the infrastructure out there talking about months i hate to say it could be yours part of the meetings today was also to get to a limited all that debt they had their military planes landing for five
8:17 pm
a day or all they can get in there now coast guards offshore anything that can be done is being done right now ok let's switch to roger stone testimony today mark where's the smoking gun adam schiff was pretty quiet coming out of that hearing he didn't hear what he wanted to hear at least that was the impression your thoughts at this point well there is no smoking gun because there's nothing here there's no rush of collusion there's no anything you know this molar has seems to be focused on this meeting with donald trump jr the tiniest little lawyer from moscow who had nothing if they were in any way colluding with russia they would have needed this meeting why would they jump at this chance if they had any contact in russia there's no collusion nothing's going to turn up on speaking of focus the american people in your sense feel concerned about this investigation or are we wasting too much time on it. we are very concerned americans want to ensure that our electoral process is protected and safe and even when donald trump is out of office
8:18 pm
we want to ensure that there are not other countries including russia that are being there are involved you know roger stone and the rest of his crew are trying to be very slick and lawyer by saying there has been no collusion with the russian officials well that does not mean that they did not collude participate or take information as an down to junior to help them win the election and we need to put down this farce if they really care about america they will tell the truth they will be forthcoming so that we can in fact move on health care what happened over three. is really time for the republicans to get a grip they need to move on if they truly care about helping americans rather than taking down entitlement program if they think of it they will really come to the table and have a real discussion about single payer they will have a real discussion about what will it take to fix the health care system obamacare was not perfect but a lot of the problems with obamacare as
8:19 pm
a result of states not signing on and of the republicans not helping with this process to come to a middle ground it is really time for them to move on marco embarrassing is this for mitch mcconnell republicans got the white house and also the senate after years of complaining they can't get it done. yeah well it's embarrassing politically but the ugly truth is democrats don't want to touch obamacare and republicans in congress don't want to touch obamacare the lobbyists the donors the influence peddlers no bigger lobbying than the insurance companies and hospitals they like obamacare the way it is that figured out how to make money into the system they don't want to touch that's why under obama forty three repeals got passed without blinking and now that there's a president that might sign that they're not going to pass any repeal and mark i'll finish with you as well why is donald trump doing this with the n.f.l. this is just a hornet's nest that you know i don't know there's been no polling on it where the american people are on this but oh you know why oh ok what is it seventy six
8:20 pm
percent support the president it's a it's a it's a win win situation for the president let me tell you some every owner agrees with the president they just didn't like the way he spoke to them he got their backs up they don't like being told what to do that's the only reason they rebelled n.f.l. owners want to n.f.l. owners want to win and they want to make money and they don't want to team that's just focused of course owners are going to go with the players loved on your thoughts. you know i had trumps if they had lain on this one his rhetoric with an appropriate and more than anything with stand that's me is that the language he used about the n.f.l. players compared to the language for the charlottesville protesters what they're tiki torches really shows where his heart is in this country done jones mark simone always a pleasure great to have both of you with us tonight. iraqi kurds have declared victory in monday's independence referendum turkey and iraq central government in baghdad have refused to recognize the vote meanwhile oil prices are reaching recent
8:21 pm
highs as opec's plan to cut oil production seems to be working for more on this let's turn to bart chilton former commissioner at the c.f. t.c. part nice to have you with us tonight always first of all the kurds have a lot of oil they do what does this mean this vote and they would they would have instant income if it goes their way what do you think well and you know the turkish president said that he could turn off the spigot because it's a pipeline that goes from northern iraq to through turkey that's about eighty five percent of their production which is about seven hundred thousand barrels a day and when we talk about opec who's cutting their production by one point eight million seven hundred thousand barrels is a nit pick and portion of that so it could impact prices now this production cut there's been cheating in the past doesn't appear that way now why not i think everybody really wanted to stick to it this time there you're absolutely right there has been cheating in the past but the monitoring committee reported to opec
8:22 pm
at large on friday in vienna and said there's got one hundred percent compliance now there's some other areas there that are causing them trouble like nigeria and libya both who were exempt from the production cuts libya has had some strife and they've actually lost about one hundred forty thousand barrels a day but nigeria up from one point one a year ago octo. over to one point seven five million barrels a day so this production cut for the real producers globally is now working and then the russian economy is better because of it saudi arabia is cut more than anybody else plus we've had hurricanes what effect if they had on gas prices well a lot they're still up the average price of gas right now is two fifty seven a gallon that's up twenty two cents from hurricane harvey but down five cents from the highs a week ago still high in the southeast area of the u.s. georgia up forty four cents still florida up forty cents still very high but i
8:23 pm
think gas prices are on a downward trend at least ok let's get back to the kurdish election. give me the worst possible scenario here what do we do what do we have to fear geo politically in this region well more and more conflict i mean it's about you you hate to bring everything back to oil so i won't that's obviously a key component of it oil prices and what we pay we have but the most cars in the in in the world in the u.s. but i think the strife in the middle east is not a good thing given the geo political circumstances that we face whether or not it's libya or whether or not it's north korea ernie place else in the world so we don't want to see more of it ok our children great to have you with us tonight thanks so much. president trump commented on north korea while hosting the prime minister of spain today the president says military options are not preferred but are on the table with north korea manila chan it's been following the story there's going to
8:24 pm
be harder this does it not only that but at this joint press conference the president called on all nations to apply diplomatic and economic pressure on the reclusive north to force them into complete denuclearization that. we thank spain for its recent decision to expel its north korean ambassador and for standing with us in our efforts to isolate the brutal north korean regime it is time for all responsible nations to join forces to isolate the north korean menace. north korea nuclear weapons and missile development threaten the entire world with unthinkable loss of life all nations must act now to ensure the regimes complete denuclearization but following monday's heightened rhetoric between trump and the north korean foreign minister today south korean news agency john hop is
8:25 pm
reporting that the north is bolstering their defenses by moving aircraft towards its eastern coastline along with other measures after u.s. bombers flew near the peninsula last weekend the movement of their aging warplanes seems to back what foreign minister ho said on monday that because they took the president's words on twitter as a declaration of war that they will take proactive countermeasures even outside of their own borders but experts say that north korea's ability to actually shoot down any u.s. bombers is unlikely citing that while kim has around eight hundred fighter jets there from the cold war era and are severely outdated modern u.s. bombers and the fighter jets would easily outmaneuver them and while it doesn't appear that neither parties involved are tamping down the fire china is now prevailing as the cooler head in the room speaking from beijing today the chinese foreign minister had this to say he said we hope the u.s. and north korean politicians have sufficient political judgment to realize that
8:26 pm
resorting to military force will never be a viable way to resolve the peninsula issue and their own concerns we also hope that both sides can realize that being bent on assertiveness and provoking each other will only increase the risk of conflict and reduce room for policy maneuvers war on the peninsula will have no winner and so at all though the president is still doubling down on his rhetoric towards kim the sec def jim mattis is insisting that diplomatic efforts are still continuing. his current trip to india today he told press at the u.s. is still just moving forward with the u.n. security council resolutions while maintaining as he says maintaining the capability to deter the d.p. r. k. so take that how you may in the meantime maybe the sanctions will work thanks manila appreciate it and finally tonight international space station has released absolutely stunning new video of the oral borealis otherwise known as the northern
8:27 pm
lights the time lapse video was compiled from over seven hundred photos taken on september fifteenth while the international space station passed over canada the northern lights occur when atoms in the upper atmosphere are struck by electrically charged electrons and protons in the earth's magnetic field fascinating to see i get to see them up north several times a year and that is our news that i'd follow me on twitter and news where they have lightning on the facebook page we've got a dot com and you can see us under red t.v. channel three twenty one i'm michel supported tonight from washington thanks for watching we'll see a record of all. the guys i made a professional is powerpoint to show you how artsy america it's good for the greater media landscape. laughter all right but we are a solid alternative to the. liberal or conservative and as you can see that is bar
