. i. was shooting took place during an outdoor performance while the country singer jason aldean at a three day music festival that was attended by an estimated twenty two thousand people a gunman fired at crowds from the thirty second floor of a nearby hotel and casino there were multiple rounds of rapid fire witnesses have said they believe it lasted somewhere between five and ten minutes and here's our witnesses that we spoke to describe what they saw.

a witness to the aftermath of this massacre it was actually working in the immediate vicinity britt kenyon was working as a waiter at the nearby cosmopolis and hotel when this massacre happened thanks for coming on to speak to his breath and i'm sure this is a very emotional subject for you. if any if it any point you know you feel uncomfortable just just say so i just want to know first of all that what we did you first become aware that this attack was taking place and how did you find out. i was taking care of one of my tables and i group of guys around the phone i just found out and they told me and that's how i heard about it. we went up to my manager and we really didn't have much information about it shortly after there were people running and screaming inside the hotel. i'm not really sure why i think there was a lot of miscommunication going on about what was happening and then shortly after we were put on lockdown and how far away you situated from where the with the music festival in the attack. and fifteen minute walk.

ok but no i'm actually not that far of course especially if you're in a in a vehicle or if you are running away and i presume at some point you came across people who had been at that concert or been fleeing. yeah there are people running up and down the strip. because the hotel did go on lockdown few people were able to go in the hotel so if you were on the street you were basically stuck out there so it's pretty scary to see people not really knowing where to go or what to do and there is tons of swat teams and police everywhere with guns outside of because i'm walking at all. there's a lot of confusion about what was going on. be very strange scenario to be in if you know this is an assault has taken place and you see people running for safety maybe trying to get into the building where you are but they're not because of the regulations are not allowed in the terrifying my heart was breaking for people

because they just don't have anywhere to go because the hotel rules are that you cannot let people in or out for our safety and. in that point you don't really know what to do do you know anyone personally who was involved or in attendance. one of my friends was there and he posted on his facebook that he got out ok with his friends he was armed. he posted his story of everything and it was just tragic to read it. we just watched one of the videos that was recorded at the concert and it seems that you hear several seconds of rapid machine gun fire with nobody reacting to him and the people don't understand what that sound is the must be a huge sense of shock and confusion i imagine the sense that some of the people you came across afterwards. definitely definitely there's so many rumors going around

about what was actually going on especially when you're at a concert you don't expect for something like that to happen i think it takes some time for it to settle down and for people to really realize what was going on i was just at that exact venue last weekend for a music festival and i know that getting in and out of that area there's really just want to entrench the dog ate it so i can't even imagine how people were reacting on how to escape or what to do or what was going on and people you know that was do think say well how people react to the time when they when they sort of specter the sounds of gunfire did they freeze that they get to the ground that they run what was their immediate reaction i think some people took to the ground because they did not know that it was coming from the top of the and they weren't sure that shooter was actually at the concert arena there are others that immediately ran out my friend was. the area. and he was able to take cover

and then they climbed and then in about another people all down the fact that way everyone could run out to the side if you have experienced anything like this before. i haven't personally experienced being there but i am from originally from the sandy hook area so when those shootings happen and. i did attend the funeral of one of the victims. i have been personally affected by gun violence in the past. if you don't mind me asking what your personal thought on gun control and gun regulation is i understand it's quite easy to get hold of a gun in. the nevada las vegas area. absolutely one of my friends who is program so there needs to be stricter laws you can go to gun shows here and buy guns without any age. you can buy unlimited ammunition it's

just insane for me to think that we don't have stricter laws and i know there are people that are so pro the second amendment but the world is changing and we need to consider also changing these laws because how many more mass shootings do we need until we realize that these laws are outdated and we need to change them something. and of course you're working in an area this is a huge tourist area i mean the number of people coming through every day presumably that's going to continue regardless of what has happened people have already booked the what is the hotel said about how you should conduct yourself is the going to be heightened security now as a result. i'll be going into the heart of art in a couple hours so i'm going to find out more about that i'm going to soon there's going to be more security. maybe they'll give us some training it's not some really

going over and so i'm going to be they're going to take more precautions. ok brett my condolences to everybody involved please pass pass them on nobody. could ever wish this upon anybody horrific shooting there in las vegas can you know. someone who witnessed the aftermath there appreciate you coming on speeches many thanks but . between ninety ninety six up until june of this year the united states has one hundred thirty mass shootings almost nine hundred adults and a hundred forty five children have been killed but these numbers don't include the latest attack in las vegas and there are question marks over what is officially classed as being a mass shooting with more on that these artes killing more people. the attacker has been identified as steven craig paddick a sixty four year old man in his hotel room he apparently had ten different rifles now when the swat team broke into the hotel room from which he was shooting at the

concert attendees they they determine that he was already dead it appears that mr paddick took his own life after opening fire and killing fifty eight people outside the concert at this point he's being referred to as a lone wolf the ice still terrorists have claimed responsibility for the attack and said that the shooter was associated with them but the f.b.i. disagrees and says that no link to any international terrorist group can be established we have determined to this point no connection with an international terrorist group as this investigation continues we will continue to work with our partners to ensure that this is factually thoroughly and absolutely investigated now the shooter did live in a retirement village just outside of las vegas and in the home of the shooter it is apparent that there was some additional ammunition law enforcement is saying that they don't really have a profile on this person meaning that he did not do anything to attract the

attention of law enforcement prior to his act the shooter's alleged girlfriend a sixty two year old woman is considered to be a person of interest in police investigations the police say that at this point they have many hours of surveillance footage from security cameras to look over to determine exactly how the shooter was able to bring the ten different firearms to his hotel room now following incidents like this there's almost always a cry for gun control is fifty eight people dead this is being called the largest mass shooting in modern u.s. history let's take a look over some of the incidents that have taken place over the last few years in the united states.

sparked outrage we'll show you now i must warn you though first of all you may find this one distressing and it appears to show one of the officers trying to remove a woman and twisting her wrist in the process she claims that her fingers were broken intentionally after a day of wide scope violence in catalonia protesters have been taking to the streets there decrying this police brutality nazis and data corruption that has been once a trolley and bustling. this is not like absolutely aware as you can see the protests continue here on the iconic sware of the barcelona says he hundreds of students have gathered behind my back to protest against the events that we saw here on sunday they're protesting for the independence of catalonia they're clapping they're shouting slogans including goodbye mr president good bye many and. now if there are trying to remain

peaceful and they're also protesting against the violence unprecedented crackdown on polling stations that we saw on sunday and indeed there are a lot of unhappy people here on the streets of wasilla now. we didn't deserve this kind of treatment i think our people deserve more freedom and not the oppression that madrid is putting us under to them we have seen a lot of repression against the people people who are just waiting in line ready to vote they would have seen the scenes on the police this is wrong. place children and now the only people in front of the polling stations i mean some of my friends were in the woods in bare clothes to defend the polling stations. my friend told me that she was ahead by police and so he went to the floor he was also hit on the head and i think this fed should be made known to the public. we have been receiving more reaction coming now from the consul on

a story to us this monday now the president's council on and said that the government has decided to create a special commission to investigate the events of sunday to create a special commission to investigate possible crimes against humanity that might have taken place here are over the weekend he also believes that in order to find a compromise between madrid and barcelona independent party is needed so as you can see the calm this situation here is so complicated that even authorities are ready to acknowledge that there are unable to find a way out without the help of another independent side now the president of consular demands that the forces of national police will leave the region he says that for many years and many times people have council on a work protesting and never there's been violence on the streets so it is really the biggest constitutional crisis spain has sent in decades and it really seems

well and journalists in brussels have had a lot of questions about the e.u.'s tongue tied response to the crisis in catalonia now will you have a double standard in freedom of expression whilst found out for. another for. you condemn it when they shut down cambodia daily would you stay silent when a member state staunch playing with freedom of expression should private websites if they start arresting jewelries how can you see this is of course additional that we don't have anything to say i mean this is more expression anything else that we're going to help you with today where you can see the spokes person squirming there and there is a sense that collectively european leaders are squirming over this crisis as well there's a degree of discomfited scenes now in terms of the media reaction sky news has

diplomatic presence in the country to four hundred fifty five staff members and of course in late august washington and now the decision to take the russian consulate in san francisco from moscow along with other property so an immensely tough period of russia u.s. relations were a member of the russian foreign minister earlier saying that it wasn't moscow that initiated all this and he also said that he deeply regrets what is happening the latest reaction from the russian government to what we saw happening in san francisco moscow still sees this as a violation of international law they never accepted the decision to close the consulate in san francisco and besides this russian officials have reserved their right to respond to that. donald trump has downplayed recent

remarks made by his secretary of state to call for a diplomatic solution to the north korean crisis the u.s. president says that negotiations with pyongyang would be a waste of time on these guys the story. for the past two months the world has been watching the escalating tensions on the korean peninsula and while some in the trumpet ministration continue to strive for a diplomatic solution the president himself sees those efforts as useless. i told rex tillerson our wonderful secretary of state that he's wasting his time trying to negotiate with little rocket man so term thinks negotiating with north korea is a waste of time honestly adding that the us will do what has to be done the us secretary of state rex tillerson was in china talking with top diplomats there and trying to find ways to ease the nuclear tensions i think the whole situation is a bit overheated rights now i think everyone would like for it's a calm down obviously it would help if north korea would stop firing of missiles
