your version was better than. the sea people you've never heard of loan. from the world. very. seriously. coming up on r t escalations on the korean peninsula more missiles from the u.s. are on their way to south korea as reports suggest the u.k. could be gearing up for war and fires are raging across northern california leaving over a dozen dead and thousands of homes destroyed. then we discussed the formula of framing mainstream journalism in two thousand and seventeen so call up your anonymous sources as we get one professor's take later in the show. good afternoon it is tuesday october tenth four pm in washington d.c.
4:01 pm
i'm on your part you're watching our team america and we begin this hour amid ever increasing tensions between the united states and the democratic people's republic of korea the u.s. is preparing for yet another round of joint military exercises with the republic of korea in the south this time the u.s. plans to send a nuclear powered submarine armed with one hundred fifty four tomahawk missiles to the peninsula that's according to a south korean media outlet reports say the u.s. as michigan is slated to arrive at the port city of tucson so in south korea this weekend by next week the submarine will reportedly conduct joint military drills with the u.s.s. ronald reagan a u.s. aircraft carrier simulating all out war against the north d p r k considers these drills to be very provocative and has offered to halt its nuclear program if the u.s. put an end to these drills meanwhile today defense officials. in south korea say
4:02 pm
they believe special forces for the korean people's army conducted training exercises to practice infiltrating the south korean and u.s. combined forces command by paraglider in september a south korean lawmaker also accused the d.p. r. k. of the point hackers to steal highly classified military documents including details of a quote decapitation strike against the north in other words a plan by south korea designed to remove a north korean leader kim jong il all this comes as the workers' party of korea its seventy second anniversary in the north with president trump repeatedly threatening to destroy to north korea britain has dived into the mix and is currently drawing up battle plans to help the u.s. if a war with north korea becomes reality with the latest i'm joined now by our alex my hell of a bitch and tronto alex what exactly are we hearing from the u.k.
4:03 pm
when it comes to north korea. looks like the u.k. is taking things seriously they know full well that if the u.s. jumps into a war with north korea they might be one of the first ones asked to come along for the ride and just to think about that the fact is that these guys have started writing up plans on how they would help the united states in a war against north korea now we know the brits historically speaking have always had a pretty incredible navy and they still do to this day and what they are considering doing is adding to their arsenal with the h.m.s. queen elizabeth now here we've got some stats on this big boat this is an aircraft carrier and it's brand new it's not supposed to be put into commission until two thousand and twenty two worth about three point nine billion dollars to ship a three thousand separate compartments four hundred thirty one cabins and sixteen hundred bombs and it can hold up to thirty six f. thirty five b. stealth fighter jets i thought a lot of planes with a lot of firepower but the question is will the u.s.
4:04 pm
even need the brits in a situation like this we know that the us have a formidable force in the pacific ocean already and whatever the brits can do would probably take a bit of time for them to get their boats out there first of all and second of all the u.s. army or the u.s. navy i should say in this case it's pretty powerful on its own so many british people are questioning why britain would even get into this game knowing full well that this really is not their battle other than the fact that they're secretary of defense keeps telling them that north korea has missiles can reach london more easily than they can reach los angeles since london is actually closer geographically speaking. well is it as simple as that then alex the fear mongering or is a traditional ally ship with the united states why is britain being so hot ash when it comes to north korea well extremely hawkish and it seems all to be coming out of mr felos the man that i just mentioned and i'm going to give you a quote by him and this is quite interesting is sort of to get the idea of where
4:05 pm
this man's mind is today the nuclear dangers are intensifying from a reckless north korea and increasingly aggressive russia nuclear weapons remain the only credible way to deter the most extreme dangers reminding any aggressor that the benefits of an attack would be vastly outweighed by the consequences and that the british defense secretary michael fallon saying now michael fallon look the west has a lot of reasons to be afraid of what's going on six nuclear tests in recent months a couple of missiles shot over japan by north korea but the fact of the matter is you have to kind of sit back and think about why is this going down kim jong il is not a stupid man or a good kim jong un i should say he's not a stupid man he's looking at the situation where he saw somebody like gadhafi go down somebody like saddam hussein go down because they didn't have deterrence so he's trying to protect his own regime with the type of weaponry and he's asking to negotiate he's telling president trump let's talk about you guys sending all these
4:06 pm
weapons doing these drills over in south korea so that's one big thing and one thing that mr fallon does not address is that china is the factor here not the brits not the u.s. china is the country that's dealing most closely with north korea china has put up some stringent sanctions against north korea china can get the job done and for some reason now the brits are saber rattling as well we also know that mr fallon though recently has asked for more money for defense so that could all be playing a part of this in this as well as it sits with the ministry of defense in britain they are saying they would like to see a peaceful resolution a diplomatic resolution to all this and what we're seeing is you know a lot of as i mentioned. saber rattling in a lot of the push for a war that really doesn't need to happen well even if the war doesn't happen alex it seems all the savior rattling will keep weapons makers here and in the u.k. very happy out of meal that reporting in toronto thank you so much thank you for
4:07 pm
some analysis let's turn to paul martin the senior director at peace action i welcome paul with all the escalations we've seen and recent weeks including the unprecedented sanctions recently put in place against north korea is the u.s. helping the situation by deploying a submarine more mess aisles and holding these drills with south korea. i don't think so i think we continue to escalate this situation and people ask are we going to go to war with north korea i think we are already at war with north korea not alone not only are we on the word war between the two leaders continuing to threaten each other with nuclear weapons that could kill hundreds of thousands if not millions of people but also there's probably a cyber war going on there's no doubt that north korea has been escalating its cyber warfare against various countries and my guess is that the u.s.
4:08 pm
is using similar type attack their tactics against north korea so we're already at war now are we going to be a war that ends up killing what some people say upwards of a million people in the korean peninsula if a war were to break out that's the main question and so how do we make sure that doesn't happen the annoying thing that's all that in the past the certainly been diplomacy as the former speaker just said there's only a diplomatic solution here there is no military solution any military solution with can bring us into world war three or into a war that's going to kill millions of people write it in a way this entire conversation about the possibility of war kind of shows you how deterrence least on the north korean side has worked i mean the reason we can't escalate militarily in the way we constantly hear about in the media is because everyone seems to agree and the cost would be too high because north korea has invested so much in defending itself. yes specifically certainly on nuclear weapons
4:09 pm
we may have tried some other sort of strategy though there is the geo political question seems that your former guest mentioned which is you know china i mean china would not look very favorably in any kind of military intervention by the u.s. into billboard korea so there are those that those would be thought out as well but it's clear that you should probably consider north korea into a weapon state at this point they have shown the ability to detonate fairly significantly so weapons they have decent missile technology on it's not certainly clear whether or not that technology will allow a nuclear weapon to actually survive coming in the atmosphere from an intercontinental ballistic missile but you know you just have to assume that that is the case at this point. so we are now looking at you know war of words between these two nuclear weapons state in which the u.n. has just passed a treaty saying because weapons should be illegal because of the man and terry in
4:10 pm
consequences of the use of nuclear weapons which most of us can't even imagine but we are talking about millions of deaths and the possibility of a piece of land not being able to use for a long period of time on the question of constant escalating rhetoric and actions however as the north has repeatedly said it would freeze its nuclear program if the u.s. halted drills these doing drills they hold with south korea on a yearly basis what's preventing negotiations at this point. i don't think there's anything preventing a negotiation then certainly mind standing that there are certain back channel conversations being had difficult to tell exactly what the president means we've seen presidents say their use things over and over again only to do the exact opposite but we also know there's disagreement within the current administration with various parts of the state department or even on the department of defense who
4:11 pm
know that a war certainly a nuclear war or another war would not be good so i think that there are certain conversations happening. already though what washington was like doesn't seem willing to accept the that's starting point for negotiations at least at this point because they're running low on time i want to move along with about a minute last and it's been reported this week the trump administration made decertify of the iran nuclear deal can you explain to our viewers how that might impact the situation with respect to north korea as well. so this just shows how diplomacy works iran was maybe three months away if it so chose to be able to make a very crude nuclear device because of the iran agreement negotiated by world powers not just the u.s. but this isn't a multilateral agreement including russia. now iran is at least a year away if it's decided and it has the most the highest level of
4:12 pm
verification and people monitoring their nuclear of systems and the country so we're that is the made america and the world safer now trump wants to decertify that and perhaps unravel that agreement and what is north korea going to think here's a country that we are up for our word we said one thing that we would do one thing and iran has been in compliance and cording to all all levels of experts and now we're going to basically renege from the deal and so how does that make us a good actor in other negotiations such as north korea is a good question we'll have to see what the rest of the international community will have to say if we indeed move on with that decision here in washington paul klee kai martin senior director at peace action thanks a lot. and in california wildfires are raging across the northern part of the state having killed more than
4:13 pm
a dozen people thousands have been ordered to evacuate as firefighters continue to battle fires in eight different counties today president donald trump declared the situation to be a major disaster and ordered federal aid to be directed to those in need here's our new correspondent ashley banks with more officials are. through northern california more than one hundred people have been hospitalized and several others have been reported methink so far twenty thousand buildings including homes and businesses have been destroyed and now at least twenty thousand people have been forced to evacuate california governor jerry brown has declared a state of emergency and napa so intimate and new but county officials say it all began on sunday when at least seventeen fires were at night that according to experts during the month of october california experiences very dry conditions so that coupled with diablo winds fanned the fires using wind gusts of up to seventy
4:14 pm
miles per hour so far these fires have burned more than seventy three thousand acres and the northern part of the state mostly concentrated and sonoma and napa counties which are the heart of the wine country a place known for its world class vineyards is now the scene of despair want to resident described the scene as armageddon many witnesses believe the vineyards will suffer as they can if they can damage causing a shortage of great for years to come live in a clock somebody came around honking their horns just crazy just like what is going on and i don't know what inspired me to look at my bedroom window because it's in the back of the house in the car was the front of house. to my blinds and i just saw flames all up on the hill behind my house so of course i panicked i'm still shaking. and they were screaming fire fire fire get out get out so that's when i called my neighbors were all together and we all just got their cars and left in
4:15 pm
the car over there and that's about it but you brush i did grab my travel bag and. my laptop become a laptop according to reports in santa rosa which is the largest city in sonoma county things seem to be at its worst at least seven people died in the city since sunday and countless structures were completely destroy. boy and cluing a hilton who tells kaiser permanente evacuated one hundred and thirty patients from his santa rosa medical center by bus an ambulance monday morning and sutter santa rosa regional hospital evacuated all of its patients all schools in the county were closed today and so were several roads not the county fire chief barry behrman spoke during a press conference. we're king very closely with our law enforcement partners who were able to work on the evacuations to get folks out of the area where the fire was it was a difficult job and there are definitely numerous structures that were consumed
4:16 pm
during the beginning phase of this fire and still at this point due to the multiple fires and limited resources continue to be a challenge for us and start prioritizing the different fires in this unit where aircraft can be used based on visibility on but that is a top priority for this department in this county is to get their resources in here to assist us because as of right now with these conditions we can't get in front of this fire and do anything about the four progress at this time the fires remain uncontained then may continue to spread due to got few winds and washington national banks r.t. . coming up on our t.v. is blaming russia a key part of journalism these days that well ask a journalism professor for his take and just a moment and say what. i
4:17 pm
think the average viewer news after watching a couple of segments understands that we're telling stories there are critics can't tell you know why because they're advertisers more or less. in order to create change you have to be honest you have to tell the truth parties able to do that every story is built on going after the backward to what's really happening out there to the american public what's happening when a corporation makes a pharmaceutical the kills people when a company in the environmental business ends up polluting a river that causes cancer and other illnesses they put all the health risk all the dangers out to the american public those are stories that we tell every week and you know what they're working. i'm john martin and i'll give you what the mainstream media can't help big picture .
4:18 pm
and when pushed for time when you're looking to see let's. go deeper investigate and debate all so you can get the big picture. what you have for breakfast yesterday why would you pick. up your wife. or. what your biggest fear was in the room and be right so let's let it hold you say if you ever. thought about. it one topic. now i believe you do you keep pushing more.
4:19 pm
welcome back to our tea america so what exactly does it take to be a journalist in twenty seventeen well lately it seems when it comes to at least a few outlets the formula simple blame russia at least for any cultural electoral or political problems making headlines in the west. for example despite widespread claims of election hacking engineering by russia during last year's presidential election made by the department of homeland security recently several states have stepped forward to say those stories were in fact false this is just one case of claims making their way into the press only to fall apart during the search for evidence for more let's have a little journalism lesson with georgetown professor chris chambers out chris the secretaries of state from several states have confirmed their election infrastructure is or not in fact targeted by russian hackers. they actually the secretary of state in california even said the information v.h.s. gave them was just bad but this bad information made in the press made it into the
4:20 pm
papers well it wasn't even the you know it that was the after effect i mean the initial stories were like hacking you know the taking down our system electricity grid and know that yeah the you know who we're going to have to break the machines open a recount redo the election redo all those elections and all those counties that was the hysteria and you know it was based on a lot of little snippets of things that the h.s. was saying and just the general atmosphere of anti russian reporting so that that story broke out there and you know you know talking about obscure blogs we're talking about you know the post new york times we're talking about the three broadcast networks we're talking about c.n.n. and even fox so you know they didn't really do their homework and basically expanded on what the h.s. was telling them and then the aftermath they didn't really retract or clean anything up it raises the question what is the job of the media i mean should.
4:21 pm
they just be acting as an honor for us for assertions made by agencies like the d.h.s.s. are are you just support supposed to report news like that as fact they're not supposed to dig and the proof or the putting. there is that when d.h. says other things that they don't necessarily agree with then they will dig then they will try to look at those sort of the source material the problem whatever primary source material is are out there corroborating what the adjuster some other agency is saying but because there is this general atmosphere of kind of anti russian feelings and a lot of them want to tie the administration to russia you know so it makes for interesting. puppet show because it said well is the administration a puppet of russia well maybe it's not that maybe it is but we don't care because that we get more eyeballs by talking about it and you know it and they didn't really delve into the background facts or the facts a d.h.s.s. the supposed facts d.h.
4:22 pm
just was supposedly operating from lead even interview some of the makers of the the systems the electoral systems that we have and difficult because you know they've got it goes county by county but still it's doable and they didn't do it and the corrections and retractions in these cases really matter i mean people often don't even see them well i mean that's up to you you're doing it now they say they just put it out there and then they just moved on to the like locusts to the next thing you're basically correcting them now well speaking of locus on to the next. the next they and the media oh now it seems like every week there's a new thing last week it was news that russia had purchased ads on facebook to essentially promote black lives matter and this is on a major network c.n.n. reporting russia targeted ferguson and baltimore with these ads if you were a journalist approached with this story from intelligence sources asking to be
4:23 pm
anonymous what are some of the questions you would be immediately asking well there you know first of all you would blacklist matter is kind of an amorphous group i mean it's a semi autonomous groups around but you know you actually want to talk to who these people are you know who. who are the audience here who actually saw these ads pop up who put the likes on i mean you can track that kind of stuff and you can just talk to facebook and really get down into what you know like facebook security chief now is saying look we don't know what they're talking about but you can sit down with the person and they will go you can provide you with data and then you just do some canvassing in these markets and say hey did you see this what did it look like did it look like a professional ed and you could actually find out who actually put these things together they did not do that either i mean it's homework not being done it's just be accepting stuff face value because you want to stir up the pot and they are always describe the root of these ads or what they are being purchased from russian
4:24 pm
troll farmers which i don't even think i had has a real nichiren journalist back and mean anything at that you could even farm anybody can be you know and i know that indeed what you know there are troll farms out there but i mean you have to look at you know where is this really coming from when you say russia is it official government action is it a bunch of clowns sitting in some apartment somewhere has not had nothing to do with the government or is it in another country because there are other countries that have been involved with this i mean north korea has been involved with this there are countries that are are not very friendly with russia that have been involved with this that have been doing these kinds of things so i mean you know where do you see this i mean who benefits from from creating friction in american society and they do not asking these questions you don't know the basic rule is you don't have to be to take the fox news rule you don't have to be balanced one hundred percent but you have to be fair and to be fair you have to do
4:25 pm
your homework and they just not doing their homework here i found it interesting that they also admit in these articles they consider black lives matter to be selling political chaos if that's what they have that was the motive they they add they caught that at the end that's a that's a slap at black lives matter i mean so you you know. you have to wonder what who or who's making these editorial decisions and who is who is what are these producers saying to the two of the correspondents what are the higher ups saying to the producers it's crazy all great questions need to be asked chris chambers is professor of journalism at yorktown university thanks so much for your time. and that does it for now for more on the stories we covered go to youtube dot com slash r t america and target our web site r t dot com board slash america you can also follow me on twitter at on your part question one. for decades of the american middle choir so it's been railroaded by washington politics. big body corporate it has grown

a lot of oil that's what is the culture in this country. that's where our economy. i would still. argue america i'll make sure you don't get railroad you'll get a break in the break. another billionaire business mogul turned reality t.v. star who might run for president i'm talking about mark cuban he recently gave an interview to a podcast called viewpoint it when she told the host that he's considering running in two thousand and twenty eight he's not ready to commit but he's considering it in the interview he said if i can come up with solutions i think people can get behind and truly solve problems then it makes perfect sense for me to run if it
4:27 pm
comes down to do i think i can win because i can convince more people to vote for me the no i won't run in other words he only wants to run if he thinks he has something to offer not just to become president right after he said it the media went wild floating the idea out there to help cuban figure out whether or not it would be worth running and the polling firm called public policy polling already ran a poll pitting cuban against president trump and cuban won beating trump out by four points and specifically gone on record saying he thinks he could do a better job than trump but unlike most politicians who just like to say big things cuban is actually. being more thoughtful about it hedging his answers by admitting he would have a lot to learn he's also saying there's a big chance he won't run because his place against it and it's that kind of honest humility that could actually help him win against our current president and for those americans who are sick of both of our two parties right now cuban has the same outsider thing going for him that helps trump if cuban runs trouble have
4:28 pm
a harder time bashing on him for being part of a failed establishment as he did so easily with crooked hillary whether or not he actually decides to run there's no doubt that cuban is that at least trying to learn very quickly about whether or not he's up to the task which is great for him i think because even though three years might sound like a long time in campaign terms it's a blink of an eye and as democrats continue to focus on bitter hate and identity politics cuban is focusing on not what happened but what's next which could seriously resonate with america personally i'd like to see him run if only to introduce new ideas into the political arena i just hope he doesn't spend too much time worrying about what his foreign policy might be because if he thinks too much about that he'll probably immediately say i'm out to washington.
4:29 pm
it's. i'm a trial lawyer i've spent countless hours poring through documents that tell the story about the ugly side of calls from. corporate media report uses to talk about the current markets. i'm going to paint a clear picture about how disturbing council bluffs corporate conduct is because in march these are stories that you no one else can take on my pepto your host of american. questions. people have got to know whether or not they're present or support american people deserve to know the answer first at this point does it mean a guard against the military industrial.
