company's own documents monsanto absolutely understood the dangers of roundup but they continued to downplay the risk in order to sell their product by the barrel to farmers and ordinary consumers around the world but now that the heat is up on the company they've begun marketing a different weed killer to people who might be concerned that roundup could permanently in danger their health that we kill or is called die kamba die cambia it isn't new it was originally patented in one thousand nine hundred sixty seven and it was used widely until a stronger weed killers like round up inner the market and the market share for die cambered died off but with wound up gaining public attention for all of the bad reasons die camp is quickly becoming the go to herbicide for people who are willing to risk their health by using roundup this doesn't mean that i can buy is worry free in fact some experts are now warning that died kamma may prove to be more

have as you mentioned already the cancer risk you know it took thirty years for montana to come around and say or be called out on the fact that now we know that round up and the chemical in guy and round that can cause cancer well let me ask you about that that really bothers me because right now the only information we have about campbell is the same thing that it's all coming from monsanto we learned the last time that all came from saying that it was all phony though i mean it's phony dope science people dying from the from cancer related to it why why should we believe that there's anything different about diet campa here i don't think that you can honestly believe that i think that some of the older studies have been withheld i cam as you mentioned earlier has been on the market for a long time but it was it was used as a pre-emergent chemical so they put it in the ground before they put the seeds down there and i can buy that was illegal to spray because it was damaging all these other crops you have two issues here you. have crop damage and bombers going

monsanto round up and die camera ready seed from the very manufacturer that's killed their crops there really isn't really an attack position so you've got the property damage aspect and then you've got this human aspect where you know that there has been at least from european studies as well evidence to show fetal death evidence to show liver toxicity evidence to show all of these same compounds and these european researchers have sort of akin it to around that we now know thirty years later right round up was first it was a carcinogen then it was not a carcinogen and now is a carcinogen and it's going to let me talk about that just a second you know you've covered this story before you take probably more calls from people who have been injured by round of than anybody i know in the country i mean you you hear from them straight up when they call saying ah got cancer my father's got cancer and the only issue that in his very specific cancer is not hodgkin's lymphoma right caused by the. and oh so what we remember there is that

you have this this company monsanto that at first the e.p.a. says yeah this stuff will cause cancer that's in the 1980's and then about six years later nothing's different there are no new studies but the e.p.a. the only thing that changes there is money and all of a sudden the e.p.a. starts and no there's no chance or here then the world health organization comes out and says absolutely there's cancer that was which two years ago and it causes mother hodgkin's lymphoma so with that history given that history and i know you've handled some of the biggest pharmaceutical cases in the country i mean no question you've seen it firsthand when you see a company trending lied that where they have completely lied to the government totally lied to the american consumer and now we're supposed to believe them on diet campbell what you're calling this you know i honestly don't believe montana right now i think a couple of things have happened with that campbell they were selling. campbell

ready seeds before di kamba the new formulation was even approved by the e.p.a. so they're telling the they're telling the farmers and already they've already told a story to them here's these great seeds your yield is going to be great but don't use that i can't get because it's not ready and so they've sort of misrepresented the effectiveness and they were misrepresented what the yield would be they've sold out these farmers the farmers were the ones being penalize them going to farmers recovering right now what are they doing they say ok i've been sprayed with. i'm worried about it i'm worried about my crops i'm worried about my family i'm worried about my workers what are the farmers seven to do the farmers are having to litigate they're being left with no with no recourse one state funded governments. can buy. damaged crop right not something that the state will fund the fund the farmer for and so the farmers are trying to prove that it was jackhammer then they have to go through all of this litigation for years and years against monsanto to prove that their crops are damaged by. i came back we have seen cases where the

state has tested the very same crop two or three times no doubt i can bet they take it to an independent the syllabi ok now that's a great point o. words when the government is involved all we don't see a guy campbell problem i want to talk about that when independent independent testing is involved yeah it's right here here the here the lab results it's all over the place we saw exactly that with the e.p.a. bought into this thing and now we find out it was actually driven by you know politics by the leaders in politics and you would be appalled if you heard their names of the people who actually drove this you know hillary clinton she was she was deemed in the last election about her love affair with monsanto same on the republican side there is no safe side where it comes to corporations vs consumers what your take general well and what we found around after it is now we see that

a lot of those same people that are proving this product to not be a carcinogen then to be a carcinogen are now the very people running the show at monsanto you know they come in their hired help now at monsanto so they have it's in their best interest to defend how this product came on the market to begin with so i think it's a dangerous. concern about something we learned in round the basically the e.p.a. was part of the scale yeah the e.p.a. actually participated in the scam on putting a product on the market because non hodgkins lymphoma ok now we find out some of the people that were involved with that also went to work for monsanto so it's a telephone call it's the same story that is it's the golden rule those people with all the gold make all the rules and that happened here don't you see it happening already with campbell i definitely do and i think that is a long letter unfortunately because you. you not only have the farmers who are out

rule of twenty fifteen that protects about two million miles of streams and twenty million acres of wetlands but before anything can take place the supreme court's going to have to hear all arguments about the water rule joining me now to talk about this is our t. american correspondent regime to santos as you know what's the supreme court's purpose in taking this issue up i mean what's their focus. mike this week the supreme court is going to hear oral arguments in the national association of manufacturers versus the department of defense now the supreme court in this case is going to be determining where future disputes over the clean water act of twenty fifteen will be heard whether they will be heard in federal district courts or in the courts of appeals now the way that the rule is written now it allows the federal government to regulate pollution that flows into navigable waters however

there has long been a dispute over the definition of what these waters are in the courts which is why in two thousand and fifteen president obama put forward the clean water act in that movie he defined navigable waters to include all bodies of water that fall under federal jurisdiction however ever since that law was passed in twenty fifteen at least one hundred entities have come forward to challenge the act but this is where things get a little bit messy and there is no clarity in which courts can see these hearings so that's what the supreme court is going to be determining here not the fate of the act itself which will be coming down the line but the fate of where these future proceedings can be heard a number of state attorney generals notably from california new york released a letter challenging the premises laid forth by the white house in their attempt to remove the rule what's their core argument. attorneys general from at least nine

states that happen to sit on or near federally regulated bodies of water have introduced this letter opposing the proposed rollback of the clean water act by the environmental protection agency as well as the us army corps of engineers now they plan to repeal the clean water act of twenty fifteen and replace it with the previous rules that were implemented in one thousand nine hundred seventy seven the attorney generals here are arguing that rolling back these new rules and implementing the old rules is going to put their state's water at risk and also result in economic disadvantage for their state because it would allow competing states to roll back pollution controls. regina in that same letter they raise conflict of interest issues when it comes to the e.p.a.'s scott pruitt what is that conflict of interest and what does that say about how the repeal is being influenced before heading up the environmental protection agency scott pruitt had

previously challenge the clean water rule in several different federal courts meaning he is in him he is not an impartial party to this he has already made up his mind about what he wants to do and that's why the attorney generals want him to recuse himself because he's not impartial and he already has his own opinions you know i'm wondering what is the trump administration's basis for trying to overhaul obama's clean water rule i mean how are they justifying their case to the court the trump administration argues that by rolling back these rules they are restoring power to the states and also redefining the waters of the united states now the republicans are the main opposition to this alongside the fossil fuel industry manufacturers and also big agriculture regime to say an overhaul does take place what waters will lose federal protection how will this affect american lives this rule protects the drinking water for one in three americans or any equivalent to

about one hundred seventy seven million people and by repealing the rules of protections here it's really a slap in the face to the american public because it means that more pollution will seep into our drinking water into our natural bodies of water which could result in killing off wildlife and fish and also increasing risk to human health you know one example of how this rule is stirring things up is in los angeles san gabriel valley local officials want no federal water rules over the county's concrete rivers a wall elway's city officials do one of the arguments and who do you think is making a better case here. so we have something called the l.a. river here and i call it something because it's more of a dry concrete ditch where people film chase scenes car chase scenes so it's dry and that is why these san gabriel valley officials say that they want to exempt it from these federal regulations however officials in los angeles county disagree and

that's because at least eighty eight municipalities do train their storm water into the l.a. river and it's a major source of the local pollution in the waterways now under the regulations it requires permeating requirements and also monitoring of over five hundred pollutants for that storm water which is why l.a. county wants to keep those protections now san gabriels main argument here is not that they don't want to protect the water they do want to but they say that this is going to cost them about six billion dollars but they don't have right now to implement a new infrastructure for those storm waters so that's why they're arguing this i do believe that los angeles county has a better argument here we don't want to see something like flint michigan happening here or we don't want to see some of the issues that we're seeing in the central valley of california and our farm lands in which unregulated toxins are seeping into the drinking water mike regime to thank you for joining us is an interesting

uses to sell more weapons by mcdonnell douglas or whatever maybe it became something that they hustled their way into and now the odd thing about it is you've got you've got trump of all people saying wow on equal time he doesn't understand what this did for rush limbaugh the who exactly would when reagan came in and destroyed the fairness doctrine and then when clinton came in in the ninety's with the telecommunications act that further you know consolidated media under corporate ownership it allowed the republican you know conservative media to thrive because radio stations no longer had to give equal time to a republican voice and a democratic voice in the republican. became more popular you know a little bit more inflammatory than the democratic host which people liked they and enjoyed the anger and so it florist it it pretty much for the longest time absolutely killed progressive radio and so you know it all goes back to the death

of the fairness doctrine is what did that so if we reinstate it which i am absolutely for that means every time rush limbaugh gets his three hours of air time you get a someone if you have a democrat which is not a bad idea listen right i've got to tell you something we have been duped by corporate media we've been duped in so many ways but right now you've got these exact sitting on the fiftieth floor and wall street making decisions that affect us where it comes to war where it comes to the environment where it comes to elections where it comes to international conflict they affect that every day they're using the public commons the airwaves to do that and of somebody disagrees they should have equal time right now they don't have equal time i can tell you that having worked in that industry for a lot of years on and off look what does this mean the conservative base media well i think it would be a huge blow to conservative media because right now they dominate everything they dominate the airwaves you know there's for every few hours of conservative talk out

there there's only a few minutes of progressive or democratic leaning talk out there so it's going to force these radio stations the clear channels the. sinclairs they're going to have to scale back on their conservative talkers which is going to hurt limbaugh hurt the glenn becks and sean hannity because in and fox news maybe we'll get some some tell of the other thanks a lot i'm really are i kind of hope he stays with it absolutely who finally got some good news as former n.f.l. cheerleaders win another chapter in their legal battle against the league the new york state supreme court appellate division up held a decision that sort. the women's lawsuit is a class action the buffalo jewels as they call themselves were facing the possibility of having that legal status removed as the buffalo bills and the n.f.l. appeal decision the gave them that status in two thousand and sixteen according to their lawsuit the jills say they worked hundreds of hours without pay were wrongly
