good morning for me kevin over here in moscow next reporting leading british human rights group reprieve his calling on people to join a hunger strike in solidarity with prisoners who've been refusing food at guantanamo bay inmates have been taking action over their treatment for being detained without trial in many cases for years as we've often reported about for years now though lawyers for the prisoners claim president trumps new orders to try and break the hunger strike is seeing basic medical care refused essentially leaving these inmates to starve to death doctors are apparently being told to withdraw treatment if prisoners don't respond to force feeding it's also claimed inmates are being taunted with food investigative journalist david lindorff told us the desperate prisoners are running out of options. the prisoners at guantanamo who

are on hunger strike are doing it because they really have no other option at this point they're there with their charge some of them for fifteen years. in violation of u.n. us constitution. the. really the only thing they can do is to not eat and they're doing it. terrible results and. i think what they're hoping for is that world opinion will force the trumpet ministrations to. keep steps to do what should have been done years ago and you know release they want people who are cleared and try the ones you charge and try the one who we think are guilty of that between now which still have a trial. or at least bring the. country on a month put them in a regular prison where they can be you know people to monitor what's happening to

them just the back story here when prisoners at guantanamo go on long term hunger strike they can be force fed is a controversial practice in which it made to restrain a given food through a chub is conducted when a prisoner loses a fifth of their weight it's a dangerous and controversial practice which can damage internal organs it can cause infections it's thought forced feeding has been conducted at guantanamo for at least a decade now the pentagon refutes the claims at the moment of a change in policy on hand the hunger strike is. one time of prisons but it does mention the option of medical necessity with force feeding is conducted in life or death situations. in the past voluntary internal feedings unintentionally creators situation then encouraged future hunger strikes as a result the preexistent standard of medical necessity will be enforced in the future he and ministration i think is probably not going to let
