u.s. is questioning the baronet then integrity in venezuela the most recent election the story after this short break. mark twain said it's easier to fool people than to convince them they've been through that could be why america is so divided because people have been fed fake news feed for by corporate interests. they beat you down until you believe their fairy tales well here's a story for you it's called big and it's full of facts not fiction. but politicians do such as. they put themselves on the line they get accepted or rejected. so when you want to express injury. or some want to.
4:10 pm
have to try to be nice to see what the four three of them can't be good that. i'm interested always in the waters about how. they should. i think the average viewer just after watching a couple of segments understands that we're telling stories that our critics can't tell when you know why because their advertisers won't let them. in order to create change you have to be honest you have to tell the truth parties able to do that every story is built on going after the back story to what's really happening out there to the american what's happening when a corporation makes a pharmaceutical chills people when a company in the environmental business ends up polluting
4:11 pm
a river that causes cancer and other illnesses they put all the health risk all the dangers out to the american public those are stories that we tell every week and you know what they're working. welcome back this week venezuela's ruling united socialist party won the october fifteenth gubernatorial elections election monitors from all over the world were invited to monitor the elections to ensure fairness an electoral integrity earlier i spoke with professor of international law and human rights at the university of pittsburgh school of law daniel kovalchuk who had been invited to be an election monitor i first asked him why are the us government and media very critical of the recent elections the first question is why do they even care about gubernatorial
4:12 pm
elections in venezuela i mean and it's because there is a consensus of unfortunately that the u.s. wants regime change in venezuela the u.s. is now very clear about that many in media outlets here are very clear about that the u.s. congress has asked the defense department to draw up plans for a military attack against venezuela and so they're looking for any pretext they can find. to somehow overthrow the government and again any any. shortcomings they could find in the gubernatorial elections is just one one other pretext for such a move now i'm curious to know in your opinion why did the u.s. state department and the press call the october fifteenth vote fraudulent in how reliable is the voting system in venezuela. yeah well again they called it fraudulent even before the vote took place they were starting to call it fraudulent
4:13 pm
on saturday before the vote took place on sunday and again they did so because. they want regime change in venezuela meanwhile we know that from jimmy people like jimmy carter that venezuela has one of the best in the words of jimmy carter the very best election process sees in the world and i've witnessed it on a number of occasions i've been traveling to venezuela since two thousand and thirteen to observe their electoral processes they are reliable and they are verifiable. if people are unhappy with the vote they can ask for an audit because they have very good records to allow for an audit so it is an excellent election process why do you think the us media coverage is very quick very critical loved venice way lie in general well because venezuela. has decided in one thousand nine hundred on when they elected hugo chavez. to go
4:14 pm
a different way to take an independent core course in latin america as noam chomsky pointed out when you go chavez died hugo chavez liberated latin america from five hundred years of domination by spain and then by the united states that is what really irks both the u.s. government in the mainstream press which has become nothing but a mouthpiece for the u.s. government and that's really what all this is about is stated earlier and in your article title what i've been it's way low level that the u.s. congress asked the u.s. state department to draw up plans for a military attack against venice away why can you elaborate on that. yes well trump has threatened a military. attack against venezuela and again now that the u.s. congress is charming in asking the defense department to draw up plans for
4:15 pm
a possible invasion this is quite frightening but you know what happen is that certainly in terms of the elections on sunday that those sorts of threats backfired the reason that the governing party party won so handily in the elections on sunday was because people took great umbrage at these threats against them and they associate the opposition with those threats by the u.s. to militarily intervene in their country these are very independent people and what this is done is rallied the people around the government there and so if they thought by threatening venezuela they would get people to stop supporting the government they were quite wrong dan do you foresee the united states making any more moves on venezuela in the coming future absolutely you know the u.s. in the las have already helped set up a supreme court in exile in washington d.c.
4:16 pm
so they're already trying to set up a parallel venezuelan government the united states. there's no question that as long as venezuela continues to go its independent path that the us will continue to try to undermine them and that's why i believe people in the us who truly care about democracy who truly care about the independence of other countries has to stand against us intervention in venezuela all right dan we're going to have to leave it there danielle and danielle kovalchuk professor of international human rights at the university of pittsburgh school of law thank you so much thank you. to california where millions in the state are practicing earthquake drills today and active back in two thousand and eight the great shakeout of the yearly drill californians have been practicing and preparation of what to do when an earthquake strikes or treatment options we have live in los angeles with more now joshua why
4:17 pm
is this year's drill getting more attention. is a great question you know with the back to back disasters all across the country not to mention the three massive earthquakes that recently hit mexico disasters are on the minds of many expression here in california today nearly twenty million people are ducking covering for practice ten point two million of them are here in the golden state well the great shakeout drill is to drop cover and hold on meaning to get on the ground to cover your head with one arm and hold on to a steady object with the other the u.s. geological survey help model this drill after a seven point eight earthquake on the sand and various faults in southern california well this drill also teaches you to count while an earthquake is happening one it's supposed to help keep you calm in two if you live on the coast in a tsunami zone the length of an earthquake can indicate its magnitude so actually if it's longer than thirty seconds officials say that mother nature is likely telling you that it is indeed a tsunami natasha we understand there have of course been massive earthquakes in
4:18 pm
california in the past but some wonder if it's all hype at this point. well i mean that's an interesting point that you do bring up but experts are saying that we are on the brink of a massive earthquake coming our way here in california and if you take a look at earthquake tracker you can see that california has been struck by a whopping six hundred seventy one earthquakes in the past thirty days so geologists point to a huge fault line in southern california as bay area as a huge risk factor and officials estimate there is a seventy two percent chance of a large tremor within the next thirty years and fact some say that we're sixty years overdue no no but this any fault is locked loaded and ready to rumble we now realize that the people of los angeles are living on borrowed time researchers actually looked at soil from the past to determine this and it was just three decades ago that san francisco's bay area was devastated by
4:19 pm
a six point nine magnitude earthquake and that left sixty seven dead at reportedly five billion dollars worth of damage actually natasha i'm curious to know what are the major concerns for researchers when we're talking about earthquakes with extreme magnitude or one of the main concerns right now that geologists are looking at are the fault line areas that are highly populated a lot of people around those areas and for instance nearly seven point four million people live near the hayward fault david sorts with the u.s. geological survey it confirms that the bay area is positioned in the middle of the boundaries own of the north american plate and pacific plate so actually expression with all of these recent devastating acts including those tornadoes you know prevention is key right now for people they just want to make sure that they are prepared if a disaster like a massive earthquake comes their way actually natasha's we're reporting in los angeles thank you so much. and if you think your sweet tooth can handle this

scientists have started launching at deserts into space. known by the name of terry it's been over two hours twirling its chocolate goodness through our atmosphere it's got a street was attached to a weather balloon as it launched into space over thirty or thirty three thousand people watch a launch on facebook it seems people can't resist sweets even in space. and before we go don't forget to tune in for politicking with larry king tonight episode features a panel of guests well the larry discusses trump's tax reform plan here's a snippet of what's to come and so what i would suggest perhaps is that will tell the government to get rid of direct the charitable deduction but tell every american you get to take ten percent of what you're paying in taxes and decide how you'd like to spend it whether it's for charities or for example let's say you happen to be pro-military and you want to see you know so you know soldiers and vets get more money or something that but let's let the individual be you know who
4:21 pm
put the the middle class individual be in the same position to direct how his his money his tax money is being spent as the very wealthy person short on time ok we'll with me a few years ago on the release of your book generation what the. in which you said basically there will likely be no and on programs such as social security left for millennia olds and generations behind them you still agree with that of course but they've been saying that the liabilities are growing and the bottom the bottom line is that someday you're going to wake up and buy one of the questions about the that they're talking about about the tax plan is it's not going to crease the deficit it's understand that's all relative to what to a trajectory of staggering increases in our liabilities and not tell you they're actually going to be reducing those projected liabilities either so it's some point as the. the amount of money we spend on the benefit programs increases in the u.s.

economy becomes less and less efficient ultimately these things become of us without them socialists yes which i would i do do not like the idea i don't think you. boom bust is coming up next here on r t america and france joins us for a quick preview hi there wednesday hey more tension in spanish stocks and the country itself as the government there gets set to trigger article one fifty five and it's decision time for em is on to choose the home of its new headquarters cities have stopped at almost nothing to be chosen also a new spy technique called crack can be used to breach your wife and network and manipulate your information my guest explains this sounds like a great show thanks so much lindsay well that does the for now for more on the stories we cover to go to youtube dot com slash r.t. america also check out our web site r t v dot com for its america you can also follow me on twitter at actually banks underscore r t and don't forget to question where. we stand.

anyone in the world post whatever nonsense they want and spewed out there as if it has any merit is specially when it's usually just narcissistic drivel congress is now holding facebook to task for their involvement in the twenty six thousand election since they took money from anyone and everyone supposedly to run whatever ad they wanted no matter how stupid or fake it was that's why their c.e.o. sheryl sandberg is getting out there now to do damage control with a p.r. to work down on capitol hill she went all over talking to different members of congress and the media trying to soften facebook's image before the company officially stands before congress to testify about their role in the election during her p.r. blitz sandberg's that down with mike allen from x.t.'s he asked her if facebook considers itself a media company and samberg that that at their heart they're a tech company and they don't hire journalists in other words she tried to combat the idea that people go to facebook for news which is ridiculous when a recent study by the pew research center shows that at least forty five percent of
4:27 pm
american adults get at least some of their news from facebook not just social media but facebook specifically but here's their c.e.o. basically ignoring that fact saying they don't hire journalists they're just a tech company all while taking heaps of money from people using their platform specifically for news related content for her to deny that they're a media company at this point makes her sound ignorant and sandberg is much much smarter than that i mean it's called social media that's what it's called how could you say it's not a media company. during her press tour around washington samberg did admit that facebook needs to do better on a range of issues and she also said the company is now dealing with the issue of who gets just speak and who doesn't saying that when you cut off speech for one person you cut off speech for other people which is a fair point. if they start censoring some boys and but not others then speech is no longer free it's biased and controlled so that's something facebook is going to
4:28 pm
have to figure out for themselves as for the rest of us the solution is pretty clear to me just get off facebook entirely you'll probably go through withdrawal at first but trust me it's worth it. here's what people have been saying about rejected in the sixty's full on. the bill the show i go out of my way to lunch you know a lot of the really packs a punch at least yampa is the john oliver of r t america is doing the same we are

fairy tale well here's a story for you it's called big and it's full of that which. i i i i. am lindsey francis has been broadcasting around the world from washington d.c. tonight spanish stocks take a dive as the government there says as it sets activate article one fifty five for the first time in history to exert control over the region of catalonia also china has blocked social media apps such as the encrypted messenger program whatsapp and it comes just as the communist party's nineteenth congress kicks off in beijing we bring you updates on the proceedings there and your wife my system can now be interrupted and your information read and manipulated using

a tool called my guest explains how it works and what you can do standby start right now. i mean there's light after tensions were renewed over the spanish region of catalonia as embattled bid for independence by mid-morning the benchmark ibex thirty five index led point seven eight percent to ten thousand one hundred nine hundred four spain's government is set to trigger article one fifty five which would take. away catalonia has local powers after its defiant regional president refused to give up his demands for catalan independence since the referendum on october first around eight hundred companies including catalan banks multinationals and midsize

businesses have moved their registered addresses out of the troubled region because of concerns over the region's legal status according to spain's association of commercial registers a spanish economy minister luis de guindos said on thursday that there will be no run on banks post article one fifty five it is that since the cattle on banks announced the change of the headquarters location there have been inflows of deposits in cattle on banks so obviously the decision taken by those financial institutions was a reasonable one since they announced it in the last five or six days we have been getting daily information that there are no inflows in the kennel on banks to change their headquarters address he stressed that banks are protected by the european central bank and the spanish guarantee fund among them two of the most important catalan banks a bank and back a day have moved their headquarters out of catalonia. and tax reform before the new
4:33 pm
year as a top priority on capitol hill as republicans have failed to hit a home run on any major legislation this session a major feature of the president's tax reform framework is a lower corporate tax which the white house says will be passed on to the workers i asked hadley heath manning a policy director with the independent women's forum for her perspective on this. well economists have looked into this issue many times in many different studies and it's difficult to estimate the amount of savings that would go directly into workers' paychecks right i know the congressional budget office and the joint committee on taxation used twenty five percent as a figure so they basically say however many dollars we save by cutting the corporate tax rate twenty five percent of those dollars are going to end up in increased earnings for workers other economists say it could be as high as one hundred percent of corporations pass along the savings to workers white house budget director mick mulvaney has said that it is likely that tax reform could be
4:34 pm
pushed to two thousand and eighteen that's what everyone's holding their breath for and congress does not completely pass a budget resolution this week we've seen with the senate is done if they don't push it past that by the end of the week we're looking at no christmas but tax reform how important is it to close this deal to the people in america well i think it's very important i think the expectations are high expectations have been built into our economy into our stock market so a disappointing winter season would follow and into the next year as people file their taxes in the beginning quarter of two thousand and eighteen so if it doesn't impact this tax year there's going to be a lot of sad christmases and whole lot of disappointed small business owners and taxpayers across the country and i think especially for republicans this is critical given that they haven't been able to move other major pieces of legislation this year either what do you think about the infighting with the g.o.p. there are constituents there are constituents that aren't happy and there's also
4:35 pm
members conservatives who aren't happy with this and the party seems to be panicking what do you say about the republicans who are pushing against this and possibly stalling it. you know i think we have to keep in mind how complicated our tax code is and how that plays out politically that means there's a lot of different special interests that means there's a lot of different constituencies that could be impacted as soon as you start to mess with anything any loophole any deduction any credit there's a constituency for that so the idea of simplifying the tax code of lowering rates these are very popular concepts majorities americans support the ideas but getting into the nitty gritty details that's where we start to run into political issues and hammering out exactly what a compromise looks like is going to be the challenge for republicans moving forward well talk about a detail that has been in my opinion not talked about enough attacks on families these are the working people of america and
4:36 pm
a huge amount of them are led by women who are bringing in the lion's share of the income ivanka trump has been very vocal about this do you think it's helps to elevate this to the national stage in a more important way we had the child care tax credit before but what is being pushed forward now is a bit different right of the child tax credit has been very popular it was initially signed into law by bill clinton so it has bipartisan support and it's been expanded by other republican presidents like george w. bush now the republicans are talking about expanding that child tax credit previously president obama and democrats under his ministrations had proposed something different called a child care tax credit and that's never become law big difference i know that you think sound very similar a child tax credit and child care tax credit child care tax credits can only be used for paid child care services and child tax credits go to any family that have
4:37 pm
children in the home so a child tax credit is better because it offers broader support to all families regardless of how they choose to care for their children in a capability or with a nanny or with a stay at home parent or family member so let's hope that. the child tax credit that's going to be one of the critical details that indicates how much lower and middle income families can save in this proposal do you see the g.o.p. able to push this push this through this week by the end of the week what do you think next monday what i may be talking about i am hopeful that they get some kind of starter package together negotiation process of course goes through both houses of congress and i believe that president trump is going to be more involved in this process than he was with health care we'll get a chance to see if you've really got negotiating skills that he says as a businessman yeah he says it will be in the putting on tax reform thank you very much hadley manning director of policy for the independent women's forum thank you
4:38 pm
what's app has been blocked in china many say it's no coincidence that the encrypted messaging app and similar platforms were next after the country's nineteenth communist party congress kicked off in beijing extraordinary security measures are being imposed for the congress not just mere of the gatherings already heavily restricted access to foreign websites social media platforms and messaging programs such as we chat have been tightened and dissidents placed under increased security we chat is owned by chinese internet giant tents and boasts nine hundred sixty three million monthly users virtual private networks or v.p.n. apps have been disrupted as well in china these are especially useful as a workaround of the government censorship. the latest figures of g.d.p. growth in china are in this week at the nineteenth national congress it began in
4:39 pm
beijing and now president xi expressed lofty goals for china's economy so what do the numbers mean for those targets. is here with more for that one day after china's communist party gathered for the national congress the government released a berridge of new economic data included in that is the latest g.d.p. figure which met analysts expectations in the third quarter of two thousand and seventeen china's g.d.p. grew six point eight percent a small drop from the six point nine percent rate in the last quarter a minor decrease was widely expected due to the government's efforts to cool debt risks but at a news conference on thursday a spokesman for the national statistics bureau pointed to outside factors to. since you do international conditions remain complicated and volatile and the national economy is still at a crucial stage as restructuring was the foundation for some developments yet to be consolidated in other areas the economy performed even better industrial production
4:40 pm
rose to six point six percent be on the six to eight point two percent expectation and retail sales jumped to ten point three percent higher than the ten point two percent expectation major markets across asia all responded in different ways with the nikkei up and the cost me down based on all the numbers the chairman trying his banking regulatory commission said reducing risk and beating up or form will be the main priority is from now on. the main areas for this year based on the principle of being problem oriented are to focus on trade flow financial products and off balance sheets why these three areas because they cover many of the prominent risk points for example shadow banking cross finance real estate bubble government debt these aspects cross over with each other though third quarter growth stayed above their six point five percent target it still shows a minor slowdown so by the next report we'll know just how much efforts to lessen
4:41 pm
debt and housing bubble risks could have on the world's second largest economy. so it may china's economy grow the most in the third quarter lots of loans lots and lots of flooding in which you would explain back strong housing sales and retail sales that we also saw in the third quarter but it is obvious little a little ironic because we know the government wants to really curb rising debt and credit levels and many officials have acknowledged that it is a problem that needs a solution but after these numbers came out it made many analysts say well how hard are you really trying to find a solution to curb deaths and. you know that many officials are just kind of confused because they are strong but they're so lots of they're saying you know how much longer can you keep us up ok will china's foreign ministry to turn to politics now foreign ministry spokesman had some pretty harsh words for u.s. secretary of state rex tillerson over those about right so on wednesday on the same
4:42 pm
day that the national congress began in china works tillerson was at a forum in washington about u.s. india relations and at that forum he said that india is a better economic partner to the u.s. and china is he also called them out for other things like the way they're handling the south china sea. drama said that they shouldn't be building up on those islands and obviously trying i did not like that so their foreign minister responded by saying one we have every right to be doing what we're doing in the south china sea and also that he looks forward to working with the u.s. since president will be there in a few weeks will be the first time that i'll be there with president. since he last saw him in april before ten runs between the u.s. and china sort of got a little tense based off of everything that's happened with north korea ships in the water threats being made setting it interesting stage that meeting thank you very much. but time now for a quick break but stick around when we return it's been

a blockbuster year for the dow apple started high and it's drastically dropped my guest takes us through the disturbing details of what's known as the name of a new tool used to spy on your life five network no matter which device you use you don't want to miss that as we go to break here the numbers at the closing bell. i. i think the average viewer just after watching a couple of segments understands that we're telling stories in our critics can't tell me you know why because their advertisers won't let them. in order to create change you have to be honest you have to tell the truth parties able to do that

every story is built on going after the back story to what's really happening out there to the american what's happening when a corporation makes a pharmaceutical chills people when a company in the environmental business ends up polluting a river that causes cancer and other illnesses they put all the health risk all the dangers out to the american public those are stories that we tell every week and you know what they're working. for decades the american middle class has been railroaded by washington politics. big money corporate interests that's drowned out a lot of voice that's how it is in the new sculpture in this country now that's where i come in. i'm michel. martin america i'll make sure you don't get railroaded you'll get the straight talk in the straight. question.

the time to offer amazon a new home for its second headquarters has officially come to an end for cities across the nation the online retail giant's presence would come with a five billion dollar investment and fifty thousand jobs over the next fifteen years would also attract support industries of course which could earn the lucky host city the label tech job but what it be a pot of gold at the end of the amazon rainbow labor issues housing problems and congestion could easily follow the building of such a space while some cities are urging transparency of the decision making process
4:46 pm
others couldn't care less they just want the business and the jobs and they're going to great lengths to get them the city of tucson arizona sent a giant cactus to amazon then birmingham alabama planted giant amazon packages around the city both pitches included lucrative tax breaks one small town vowed to annex its land and give amazon the right to name it final site selection and announcement of the lucky locality are expected next year. it's been a big year for the dow jones industrial average it's risen more than four percent at the same time apple stock has fallen nearly one percent after leaving the market in the same time period look going on joining me for more please welcome lionel lionel media why don't we got to cover this you are not a big fan of some of what apple is up to what do you think is going on here. wow
4:47 pm
today's the thirtieth anniversary of black monday as we speak think about this days thirty years ago people asking the same questions you were asking now trying to evaluate after the fact what happened what was that about and would twenty twenty hindsight and a post-hoc rationalization i will do my reverse prognostication what happened here's something for you if you're going to release apple ten or x. as was called by mandy that should have been a harbinger is an x. or ten and somebody says but before we introduce ten let's introduce apple eight skipping nine completely got like a revolution nine to pay all miners to the beetle boat we're going to introduce eight and aids. is not really that much better than seven then sit back and say
4:48 pm
why aren't people buying eight something that will be obsolete almost upon its review now i ask you i must be missing something because this is drawing everybody down you know apple is the benchmark of course tech stocks and you get all you talk about semiconductor stuff and all this kind of just but lindsey i ask you something apple eight is the culprit apparently why why introduce it and it's going to be obsolete but well it sounds to me like they're they're banking on their brand it's got gone from hot to not a lot of people saw a lot of value in the seven eight man not so much as it is a day indication that apple is banking too much on its brand and consumers want more perhaps but maybe as you know incremental involvement is one thing but if you
4:49 pm
have eight and then ten why the sabbat who is going to buy in eight why buy in a couple of bucks more i'll get the ten it doesn't make any sense but remember thirty years ago today on this horrible day people are doing the same thing we're doing right now trying to make sense out of nonsense some some would call that new phone nonsense but hey there's a lot of people still using that stock we'll talk more if it goes down even further this year which should be a shock thank you so much for empire legal and media analyst lionel media thank you indeed. a protocol called w.p.a. to protect communications between modern why fight networks but it's not so protective anymore we're finding because any hacker near you when you are on wife i can deploy a tool called crack to read to manipulate your information crack is short for key installation attacks it's ugly and it doesn't matter what you use it's coming to a device near you joining me for more on this is going right
4:50 pm
a security analyst and senior fellow at the center for digital government i hope i got all that information right because this gets confusing it can get into the weeds pretty well you're going to have to help us with this and what does this mean for people who work in cyber security you probably knew about this already but the public's learning about it and trying to figure out how does this even work let's put this into perspective and according you get up and you want to get dressed everybody's got their shades down right right i think nobody can see what's going on right those are that version of w.p.a. which stands for why five protected access so the shades are down that's encrypted nobody can see the only problem is the standard is thirteen years old so that key reinstallation attack basically what it did is it really used encryption keys which are only supposed to be used once yeah toss it back and forth it reused them again and because it really began it's like they've already been used to be used again so i was able to you were not me but the researchers were able to see the traffic because they fooled the wife i ratter the wife i have access point into revealing the contents it's not encrypted so it's like an expired code but you can keep using
4:51 pm
it at the car washing it as many car washes and you are ok that's what happened here so now everybody can see your traffic this trade and immediate question i know a lot of people out there have is thirteen years all. that's a little bit old especially when it comes to technology they can think of anything better in thirteen years good question and so it's like in dog years you know we go one you know one year's worth of the internet moves so fast years ago there used to be this law called moore's law that says the speed of processors would double every eighteen months it's now down to six months ok this is. how fast the internet is moving now i will give him credit though the fact that the single lasted for thirteen years before it was broken and it was done in a unique way it was done by researchers and it took eight months for them to publish their findings because they did what was called responsible disclosure i have a digital identity card from the country of a stony albany resident i saw something come out i said oh there's something here because about a month and a half ago i got a note that said hey there we may have a problem and how you know these are being used there's there's this and there's
4:52 pm
another thing called the return of the coppersmith attack but these things came out at the same time so one goes after devices one goes after the implementation on chips and everything else but what it boils down to is people when you get a note that says they upgrade your firmware in your router you need to do it upgrade your software on your computer you need to do it and they need to start doing things like using a v.p.n. a virtual private network so that they can control the encryption and in the course until that's broken but for now that would be actually a pretty good start ok so basically we need to keep our devices secure number one but if someone comes close to you and they can get in on your life i never can there's got to be a way to circumvent even if you do some sort of an upgrade well you know that's why if you're concerned you know remember the saying it requires physical access so most consumers they're going to be ok the things i'm concerned about is look we're in the d.c. area how many buildings do you walk by pull out your phone and just pull up your i phone or whatever it is and look how many wireless networks are out there you've got tons of them so you've got the government buildings you've got other businesses they've got thousands of wife i access points that they have to protect now all i
4:53 pm
got to be able to do is get close enough to one if i run this attack against it then i can access the or entire network so i'm not too worried about consumers but you think about just in the d.c. area right here how many people have wi-fi networks all of these now are affected ok so it's not so much someone want to look at your spring break pictures in a starbucks. have we become over reliance on technology and what i mean by that obviously is we have but lazy. you know what we have we're getting into a society now to where we have traded security and privacy for convenient. it's also behavior of a lot of people don't care they don't care look i was telling somebody earlier today when i used to be a state trooper and i remember when we started enforcing seatbelt laws as a cop for eighteen years yet another spouse got to look out so another story but you know but but it was different for me when i grew up we didn't wear seatbelts i mean it's like we had people we had you know my sister laying on the back deck of the car but now we've got kids with helmets and kneepads in bubble wrap and we're wearing seat belts you know it is but it's
4:54 pm
a cool but how long did it take us to get used to wearing seatbelts we had to go through a lot about twenty years so this is what's happening with security and stuff already it's going to take us twenty years to get the right behaviors who is to blame though when we hear about these massive hats let's start with some of the major companies we hear is that the fact that consumers are too lazy with their information they don't care really what they're signing up for is that the company's fault for not getting getting in front of the issue equifax is a perfect example of that that the equifax is one where it is totally on the company and in fact i'll tell you i've said we don't have a choice but our information you know they've that in fact and they have a beautiful business model they call it that this information for free they package it up and they resell it but what happened with it up with facts is there was a flaw in an open source software called apache it's called struts it was their consumer dispute database so if i want to dispute something i go into the system which has access to all the credit they found out about this law which researchers from cisco found about they published it all they just sent an e-mail said hey make sure you update this i'd say hey you know your house is on fire you may want to go put it out it's like where was the follow up where was the countability on their most critical system so in that one we should have
4:55 pm
a digital sarbanes oxley version the same way they do if you can go to jail for misspending dollars you ought to be able to go to jail for misusing data that makes sense when is it that consumers fall though do you see any instances for oh yes i'm just stupid and i look i every christmas and you know i put out a guide every year to call the a guide to identity security told dude don't marry christmas every year you go you listen to this you get into starbucks you get into all people sit on the phone and they will read off their credit card numbers because they want to order somebody happens or they will go or they will go to a dentist's office fill out a form and put their social security number on there simply because they. forman's ford look the people who change my tires don't need much so security number you know my plumber doesn't need my so security number so consumers have to do a better job of learning to say no why do you need that we're going to do with it how are you to protect my from asian if i don't disclose it will you refuse service to me when i went to get my new sunglasses they want to buy so security number i said absolutely yeah absolutely so you know why because a lot of doctors' offices say what we need are so security number no you don't unless you get federal benefits but they don't need it the only reason they get it
4:56 pm
lindsay is because they're lazy it's how they track you as an individual patient rather than creating another field and creating an identifier the user so security number to track you and good to know how to business to stay on top of something like crack well what they have to do is this is this is but also you know government and some of these are major corporations mean if patch you know when the patches come out you have to pass that i mean ari and there are but ways but like with equifax there was a patch but nobody followed up to say was it installed correctly did they go back and audit it they said well we have these tools with the tools failed so now we have one hundred forty seven million records out in the open because of one little patch that everybody thought oh we're fine with that yet it controlled access to the most sensitive data that you and i have about ourselves because that will never change your name your data birth your so security number one change that information has a shelf life decades forever for a lot of us thank you so much for the terrifying information on this morgan right do kiddies next week now there's some more friendly senior fellow for the center
4:57 pm
for digital government and of course cyber security analyst thank you. champagne it's sparkling wine and not all sparkling wine is champagne a lot of us have heard that some haven't that's the argument a disgruntled flyer is using to sue an airline a flyer on canadian budget carrier sun wing is suing because he says he was offered champagne. on his flight but only got cheap sparkling wine instead in a little plastic cup so what's the big deal well if you want to get technical real champagne is a sparkling wine that comes from the champagne wine region of france if it doesn't come from there it's just technically regular sparkling wine sun wing is claiming that the lawsuit is worthless because they were advertising it as a champagne service rather than champagne in your cup we'll track where that
4:58 pm

5:02 pm
including torches masks weapons and athletic equipment have been banned from campus spencer is the president of the national policy institute and alter right white supremacist movement that advocates for a white state his organization paid ten thousand dollars to rent out a private auditorium at the university of florida for his speech during a q. and a session with the media spencer ranted about peaceful ethnic cleansing and white nationalism before justifying his divisive and offensive speech as a necessity behind. it. is not a safe space. needle's. protect other people's feelings it's actually a place where we just really need to talk about controversy and you could say
5:03 pm
dangerous idea this is the place to do it this is exactly the place to do it if we can't do it at public institutions where can we do it. spencer's ticketed speech got underway around two thirty pm the crowd inside the auditorium could be heard chanting go home over and over drowning out spencer's words now previous speeches of his on college campuses have sparked protest and in may he led a group of supporters carrying tiki torturers in torches in charlottesville in a display that evoked images of the ku klux klan merino while taxpayers there are footing the bill to pay for today's police presence of the university of florida there are reports that spencer security team poses the greatest threat at today's event what can you tell us about that that's right according to un verified reports spencer has hired members of anti com for his security detail today anti com stands
5:04 pm
for anti communist action and the group cast the self as the right wing's answer to and tif according to reports anti com has been exposed to planning multiple domestic terror attacks live streaming journalist collective known as unicorn riot obtained disturbing messages from the private chat server for anti com which showed members expressing a consistent desire to injure and or murder anti-fascist and leftists generally justifying their actions under the pretext of self-defense now as a public university the university of florida is prohibited from denying spencer's request to speak on campus but it should be clear that no one at us invited spencer nor sponsored his event today you know hopefully will be able to prevent what happened in charlottesville from happening again marina por not

powerful drugs that are driving up the overdose rate are too strong to be troubled takes a closer look at how the recent surge in overdoses as a crippling new york community the use of that mehlis especially prominent in staten island and in the south bronx but it is crippling communities all throughout new york because of the dramatic spike in overdose deaths in recent years it's everywhere it's it's so we were that heroin is to open their opiate addicts all over new york the suburbs and really all of the united states it's not an urban problem anymore it's it's everywhere so we're never opiate addicts or we see it's a synthetic painkiller originally used to help dying cancer patients which can be fifty to one hundred times more powerful than heroin and the drug is sweeping new york city streets special agent james hunt who is in charge of the new york division says the drug is driving a surge in overdose deaths just last month his agency along with the n.y.p.d.
5:07 pm
announced that as a result of two investigations authorities seized two hundred and seventy pounds of fennel heroin and cocaine with a street of over thirty million dollars over one hundred forty pounds of that was fentanyl traffickers and now realize they can make more money would threaten alone than with her own so they've got to precedent to pills to resemble oxy cotton or percocet to fool the users they can you're getting some that's made a real you know or form a lab so it's kind of all of the last year or two from going just as like an out of the if to her when to be unsold on its own to put into perspective exactly how dangerous this drug is if you take a look at this sugar packet if it were filled with fat no that would be enough to cause a ha. good and forty overdoses and the number of overdose deaths continues to increase according to the new york department of health in two thousand and sixteen more bronx residents died of drug overdoses in two thousand and sixteen than any other
5:08 pm
new york city borough three hundred eight people lost their lives that's more than double the number in two thousand and ten which was one hundred twenty eight fatal overdoses in the borough are now at their highest rates since at least two thousand and officials are attributing much of that rise to fentanyl recent rash of overdose deaths most i'm a tribute to her when laced with terminal or fed a lot of soul and being sold in a pill form or just sold on it's own is from last year there was one thousand three hundred seventy four drug overdose deaths four hundred thirty seven more than the previous year this marked the sixth consecutive year that overdosed us have increased and the problem goes far beyond the city borders of new york the centers of disease control estimates that more than twenty thousand american citizens lost their lives in two thousand and sixteen due to fennell and that number is rising at a dramatic rate right on the right of our citizens are being killed by fentanyl for more and family runs are coming of the country in numerous ways including shipments
5:09 pm
from factories in china directly to u.s. customers who make those purchases over the internet and u.s. authorities are urging drug addicts to stick help mediately because oftentimes the user doesn't know exactly how deadly that no could be reporting in new york trinity charges are two. to go for now where millions in the state are practicing earthquake drills today and acted back in two thousand and eight the great shakeout of the yearly drill californians have been practicing in preparation of what to do when an earthquake strikes as we have the latest from los angeles with the back to back basters all across the country not to mention the three massive earthquakes that recently hit mexico disasters are on the minds of many expression here in calif. today nearly twenty million people are dead concurrent for practice ten point two million of them are here in the golden state well the great shakeout drill is to drop cover and hold on meaning to get on the ground cover your head
5:10 pm
with one arm and hold onto a steady object with the other the u.s. geological survey help model this drill after a seven point eight earthquake on the sand and various faults as have the california all this drill also teaches you to count while an earthquake is happening one its best to help keep you calm and two if you live on the coast in a tsunami zone the length of an earthquake indicates its magnitude so ashley if it's longer than thirty seconds officials say that mother nature is likely telling you that it is indeed a tsunami natasha we understand there have of course been massive earthquakes in california in the past but some wonder if it's all hype at this point i mean it's an interesting point that you do bring up but experts are saying that we are on the brink of a massive earthquake coming our way here in california and if you take a look at earthquake tracker you can see that california has been struck by a whopping six hundred seventy one earthquakes in the past thirty days so
5:11 pm
geologists point to a huge fault line and said i california's bay area as a huge risk factor and officials estimate there is a seventy two percent chance of a large tremor within the next thirty years and fact some say that we're sixty years overdue no no this and introduce fault is locked loaded and ready to rumble you know realize that the people of los angeles are living on borrowed time researchers actually looked at soil from the past to determine this and it was just three decades ago that san francisco's bay area was devastated by a six point nine magnitude earthquake and that left sixty seven dead at reportedly five billion dollars worth of damage ashley natasha i'm curious to know what are the major concerns for researchers when we're talking about earthquakes was extreme accident toots. well one of the main concerns right now that geologists are looking at are the fault line areas that are highly populated
5:12 pm
a lot of people around those areas and for instance nearly seven point four million people live near the hayward fault david sorts with the u.s. geological survey confirms that the bay area is positioned in the middle of the boundaries known of the north american plate and pacific plate so actually expression with all of these recent devastating acts including those tornadoes you know prevention is key right now for people they just want to make sure that they are prepared if a disaster like a massive earthquake comes their way actually natasha sweet reporting in los angeles thank you so much. coming up on r t a decisive victory in the fight against isis in syria will have the details in just a moment don't go anywhere. mark twain said it's easier to homeschool people than to mince them they've been for that could be why america is so divided because people have been fed the fake

i think the average viewer just after watching a couple of segments understands that we're telling stories that our critics can't tell and you know why because their advertisers won't let them. in order to create change you have to be honest you have to tell the truth parties able to do that every story is built on going after the back story to what's really happening out there to the american what's happening when a corporation makes a pharmaceutical victuals people when a company in the environmental business ends up polluting a river. for the causes cancer and other illnesses they put all that and all the risk all the dangers out to the american public those are stories that we tell every we can you know want they're working. welcome back here in washington d.c.

the department of defense has launched a formal investigation into an ambush and nine door left for army green berets a dad and two enjoy heard earlier this month according to defense secretary james mattis who spoke at a news conference hall meeting with this is a really counterpart we have been in the french and african forces in the leg charged region for some time supporting the french led and the african troops. in the campaign to throw in the terrorists the radicals those who form and debility and murder and mayhem matt has continued to say the details are not clear on what may have transpired but explained quote there's a reason we have u.s. army soldiers there and not the peace corps we carry guns u.s. africa command reportedly sent a team to niger to complete the investigation. now to syria where the syrian city rocka have been liberated marking a decisive victory in the fight against i know that white house officials announced
5:16 pm
the end of a major military operation for three years i think occupied the syrian city declaring it the islamic state capital to talk more about this we're now joined by brian bakker national director of the answer coalition thank you so much for joining us brian now will rock of liberation and the fight against. no because of course there are tens of thousands of isis fighters and all nusra fighters and al-qaeda fighters who have been migrating to the western part of sirius especially where they are now concentrated of course a maximum pressure will be put on it live both from turkish forces in the north and from the central syrian arab army in the central government of syria but no this is not the end although you can see the beginning of the end or the end of the beginning perhaps of isis the big question in the minds of all though is what comes next what comes next after isis is defeated they will be defeated but what will syria look like don't talk about what this victory what does this victory change in
5:17 pm
the fight against terrorism and how important is this victory well it's important especially for the people in iraq who had to live under isis control it's important for syria because the syrian arab army has been under pressure since two thousand and eleven when not only the united states but the western allies of the united states with their proxies turkey qatar saudi arabia have been our mean. terrorist organizations including isis and all nuestra al qaeda the fact that these forces are now being defeated which is clear that that's happening in the fact that the syrian government will not be overthrown will not go the way of khadafi as the united states had predicted and demanded that's a major event for the people of syria and syria is trying to keep its country together it's a heart or part of the heartland of the arab world it's a very big step forward on the other hand the united states military forces fight. in with the kurdish forces to liberate rocka they were the doing the bulk of the fighting what will happen to them they are not in syria at the invitation of the
5:18 pm
syrian government as a consequence the us presence is illegal in other words the u.s. has invaded syria series demanding that the united states leave will the u.s. leave i don't think so you mentioned earlier that isis could be defeated but what might happen at this point are the terrorists just going to go underground well no i mean they're going to be concentrated in and of course that remains to be fought what will happen to isis we can see isis is trying to pollute for eight isis is going to the philippines isis is going to other areas isis is telling people alienated young muslim people in european countries in particular don't come and fight as they asked them to come before to rocka or to other parts of syria and iraq but stay home and engage in terrorist actions in those countries so isis isn't going away when let's go back since september eleventh two thousand and one there were four hundred members of al qaeda today there are probably forty thousand people who identify with jihadi terrorism of one brand or another one iteration or
5:19 pm
another it's clear that the u.s. policy of invading iraq destroying libya trying to destroy syria hasn't ended the threat or a scourge of terrorism but in fact has escalated the cycle of violence and has become a recruiting tool for groups like isis or al qaida right now i've seen reports that there may be still i think members of the rock can tell us the likelihood that that could possibly be a thing where they're in bunkers or sleeper south well we don't really know because we're not there but the reports are no the isis has not been completely defeated in iraq and the pentagon itself says that's not accurate they're perhaps maybe ninety percent of the city is liberated but that still means that there are fighters there that they can do a lot of damage also ordinance bombs unexploded bombs and other. sort of ammunitions can be used in a way that can be. places i don't think we know for sure what's going to happen militarily except in the big picture the trajectory is yes the caliphate the
5:20 pm
capital of the caliphate the capital bases in iraq and that's going to come to an end soon you just mentioned back in two thousand and one there are about four hundred people that were linked to like al qaeda and that number has jumped to at least forty thousand now you think it's possible to really combat terrorism i mean the islamic state as a global reach online and it's able to radicalize people online right and you have to look at what's really causing isis to be able to be an attractive target for people young muslims are unemployed in europe they're the victims of racism and chauvinism the united states keeps invading and bombing arab and muslim countries right now and president obama when he left office was bombing seven countries with drones when drone munitions are used to attack and target villages mainly in muslim countries what will happen of course it will create an ocean of resentment and anger that's the that's really the spawning ground for more recruits for groups
5:21 pm
like isis or al qaida so what's the solution there's not really a military solution to fighting terrorism if the united states had a noninterventionist foreign policy if it had a policy of respect with the arab and muslim world i think we'd see a whole different landscape right now we're going to leave it right there thank you so much for your and say the brain back or national director of the answer coalition again. to have ghana stand where the taliban have killed at least fifty eight afghan security forces after wave of attacks swept the country last night and looting suicide attacks that nearly wiped out an entire army camp according to officials a taliban ambush a late wednesday night in the northern province was responsible for killing six police officers well at least seventy four more were killed in a surge of suicide attacks targeting police compounds and government facilities tuesday afghanistan's deputy interior minister colby or deal the quote biggest terrorist attack of this year the taliban reportedly claimed responsibility for all

amber room was a gift to the russian tsar peter the great from the king of prussia in seventeen sixteen fifty five square me to chembur was made of six thousand tons of amber as well as gold and mirrors experts say nowadays it could be warthe op to five hundred million dollars the ember room was stolen during world war two by the nazi army and one other works of odd destined for adult hitler's planned lean speech surviving archives show was. in bold and carefully packed within twenty eight crates before being brought to then the german c.t.o. of koenig's burke now the russian western enclave of clinton did odd for renovations and display but what happened next is appear a mystery some believe the ember room was accidentally destroyed during the russian involvement on current experience but others think it is still hidden somewhere and

hunt almost never stops the german authorities have received a number of applications asking to prove they did game in different locations throughout the country but not many get past the searches go on in neighboring countries as well but to this day not a single trace of the mysteriously disappeared amber room has ever been found well if you haven't seen your anus before now here's your chance between sunset tonight tonight and early tomorrow morning your anus will be visible with the neck it i but only in places where it's completely dark since the seventh planet from the sun is located about one point seventy seven billion miles away in the consolation pisces it's a blue green issue will be faint at best so don't look up too hard at it well you know if you can't see it. all that doesn't for now for more than the stories we cover to go to youtube dot com slash r t america and check out our website r t dot

something that could be why america is so divided because people have been fed fake news feed for by corporate interests they beat you down until you relieve their fairy tale well here's a story. all week and that's that. facebook is in the hot seat right now as it should be if you ask me i can't stand it people are finally starting to realize maybe it's not the best idea to let anyone in the world post whatever nonsense they want and spewed out there as if it has any merit especially when it's usually just narcissistic drivel congress is now
5:28 pm
holding facebook to task for their involvement in the twenty six thousand election since they took money from anyone and everyone supposedly to run whatever ad they wanted no matter how stupid or fake it was that's why their c.e.o. sheryl sandberg is getting out there now to do damage control with the p.r. to work down on capitol hill she went all over talking to different members of congress in the media trying to soften facebook's image before the company officially stands before congress to testify about their role in the election during her p.r. blitz sandberg's that down with mike allen from x.t.'s he asked her if facebook considers itself a media company and samberg said that at their heart they're a tech company and they don't hire journalists in other words she tried to combat the idea that people go to facebook for news which is ridiculous when a recent study by the pew research center shows that at least forty five percent of american adults get at least some of their news from facebook not just social media but facebook specifically but here's their c.e.o.
5:29 pm
basically ignoring that fact saying they don't hire journalists they're just a tech company all while taking peeps of money from people using their platform specifically for news related content for her to deny that there are a media company at this point makes her sound ignorant and sandberg is much much smarter than that i mean it's called social media that's what it's called how could you say it's not a media company. during a press tour around washington samberg did admit that facebook needs to do better on a range of issues and she also said the company is now dealing with the issue of who gets just speak and who doesn't saying that when you cut off speech for one person you cut off speech for other people which is a fair point. if they start censoring some boys and but not others then speech is no longer free it's biased and controlled so that's something facebook is going to have to figure out for themselves as for the rest of us the solution is pretty clear to me just get off facebook entirely you'll probably go through withdrawal at

first but trust me it's worth it. for decades the american middle class has been railroaded by washington politics. big body corporate interests that's thrown down a lot of boys that's how we lose in the new culture in this country now that's where i come in. i mean it's still on our to you america i'll make sure you don't get railroad you'll get the straight talk and the straight news.

a candidate running for mayor of the small farm town of new york city his name is mike tolkien and if you're in new york city and you still haven't heard of him that's because he's been blocked out of the debates and most of the mainstream media coverage however so many of our of him and he's saying some interesting stuff having a candidate who i it's understandable though that he's that he's been blocked out because having a candidate who is left of the incumbent democrat bill de blasio. don't really go good for the democratic party so why not block him out of the supposedly open election system mike tolkin has a lot of good ideas for the biggest city in america and it was a pleasure to have him here and let you hear some of them even if the corporate media doesn't think you should here's my conversation with my talking like thanks for joining me. thanks for having me so you're running for mayor in new york city the election is
5:33 pm
a few weeks away on november seventh it seems to me that the mainstream media and the people running the debates there in new york are. terrified of voters you know terrified they might actually hear about you hear about your campaign can you talk about what's happened to you so far with your efforts to get in the primary debates and then again in the general election debates sure i mean it certainly seems that way that there is a concerted effort to keep us out of the process in the primaries the democratic primary some registered democrat we were kept out of two debates both debates that are officially sanctioned by the new york campaign finance or an arm of the government both times the campaign finance or qualified us and then new york one and then c.b.s. arbitrarily kept us out and this is never happened before you've never had a candidate that's qualified that has been proactively kept out of the process give you independent media they give you
5:34 pm
a stadium. no reason the first time they broadcast live on t.v. just a single statement that said we're not inviting michael told him because he's not part of the campaign finance matching program was that which essentially means that i didn't take government dollars i fundraised myself and then they added some arbitrary statement about not having a visible presence on the campaign trail which is both factually incorrect if you look at our website in the events that we participated in throughout the campaign but also an arbitrary requirement i mean we've gone about this campaign in tire lee unconventionally by design because we know that we need to change the way we do things we need fresh approach is we need big ideas and so our campaign is about leveraging new media social media digital media which has by far the greatest reach and by far the greatest return on our investment in terms of time effort and capital and and we've taken a
5:35 pm
a content focused approach meaning it's less about paying for advertising and more about creating content that captures our policy proposals in very digestible short form video content all of which is on our website in our social handles and that way we don't need to make a syndicate out our message people will do that for us because we have really compelling ideas and ideas travel much farther and much faster than any sort of paid advertising and then most recently we were kept out of the first general election debate with mayor de blasio two of his opponents one of which is in the exact same situation that i am in he is names bodo and he. was not part of the campaign finance matching program either and they they invited him to participate so again it's unprecedented in terms of not allowing someone into the debate arbitrarily and without any sort of reason or rationale but then on top of that
5:36 pm
they violated their own rules their own arbitrary rule. and so a lot of this is going to start coming to the surface in the next couple of weeks yeah and i watched a few minutes of that debate it was you you almost seem lucky to have not been there it was fun madness now let's go to the because you think you very much you know sometimes. if i had my head in the potato field like today this is the year i say i do but we got. promised everything. i write down would be rid of the don't we should these guys want a big box guys given the money there's a lot. going on but this tale elections here for one more second you know we saw lot of these kind of games these are not with the debates but with the actual election with bernie sanders this election fraud that went down one hundred thousand likely berner of bernie voters were purged from the rolls and in brooklyn
5:37 pm
alone alternately people were fired over that do you have much faith faith in the in the n.y.c. election system and if you were elected how do you think you'd change it. i have very little faith it's not no faith i have very little faith because the entire system is corrupt it's designed to protect itself and everyone in it from the mainstream media that is has an endless list of of conflicts of interest in terms of having a profit motive having other arrangements with the city. so i think the establishment media the establishment in government has a stranglehold on the process and you know i i came into this pretty ignorant about the degree to which the corruption existed i think a lot of other people many of which you know i have been in government warned me about this process warned me that the democratic machine would crush me and i went
5:38 pm
into this thinking you know we're going to do everything right we're going to play by the rules we're going to focus on ideas and substance i'm not going to criticize my opponents in fact i was defending de blasio often throughout the trail and and so it's been an incredibly eyeopening experience and a very unfortunate way that said the one thing that i do believe is is is still intact is the voting itself and while many people are completely disenfranchised from the process those that are able to vote those that cast a vote i do believe that their votes are being counted that they're being counted accurately and fairly. and so from that standpoint it's really important that regardless of what you hear in the press in the media regard list of the narrative that's been set by the people who claim to know more than we do who claim to you know to have this insider access to information and that's why they're sort of framing the viable candidacies rather than listen to those people i think it's
5:39 pm
really important that people make up their own minds do their own research to the extent they're able to there's plenty of content and get into the voting booths on november seventh because that vote does matter. absolutely and speaking of social injustice another factor of that is the the police the police state i lived in new york for twelve years the comps are pretty awful even though the races practice of stop and frisk has been tapered off how would you say the police the police state still needs to change the new york. well i think it starts from the top i'm not going to criticize any individual because i think it's the problems are systemic and cultural and institutional and so if we're serious about addressing this issue we need an entire cultural shift we should be policing ourselves or policing our own people we should be protecting we should be focused on in the criminal justice system rehabilitation we should be focused on identifying what are the drivers of
5:40 pm
crime and in most cases it is economic injustice it is the fact that people are so desperate for for for food or for shelter or for a pack of cigarettes that they're forced to go and commit a crime and then you know they're they're pushed into the criminal justice system in a very unfortunate way you know rikers island is obviously a tremendous blemish on our city and. i'm hopeful that we will will shut down rikers within our first term actually within the first four years but we do need to be reorienting our systems around empathy and compassion and if you're looking at someone on the street and you're not able to see what their life is like in its entirety if you're just looking at a moment in time i think you're doing injustice to the situation because nobody acts i don't think anyone is born evil i think people have mental health issues i think that they've been hurt in a variety of ways i think they've been kept back economically i think they've. they
5:41 pm
haven't been afforded an opportunity to elevate themselves out of poverty and so when you look at all these things in aggregate it becomes a lot clearer what our problem is and again it's an economic problem but you know to go back to your specific question about sort of this police state and the culture of the n.y.p.d. again we need much greater compassion we need community elected officers people should be true seeing the people that are representing them and protecting them we need to integrate new technology like body can switch. no the mayor is in support of as well as a variety of other tools and techniques and i think the broadest point here is that we need to be experimenting with new approaches to the ways we've been doing things in terms of policing ourselves are not working there are too many people that are unfairly victimized through no fault of their own and we have to deal with our reality the reality is people are being shot unnecessarily and that's preventing us
5:42 pm
actually from getting to the heart of the problem which as i said is an economic one. largely agree with the almost everything you said although you said no one is born evil i've met some babies that i'm pretty sure were born evil. will agree to disagree and. you talk about you know where all these evil babies are talking about . babies and babies are the worst. they're going to team up and take over. but you talk about you know seeing the world out of someone else's eyes and you know living in their in their shoes and understanding where they're coming from you lived and slept on the street for a week you said to better understand the plight of the homeless what's a little bit tell us a little bit about what you learned and did you invite the other candidates was blasio out on the on the park bench with you. who was not with me and i did reach out to met so unfortunately i think it was
5:43 pm
a missed opportunity on his part to elevate the issue with me just clarify i actually did this twice the first time was earlier in the year when i first started our campaign and i didn't mention it to anyone i didn't even tell my family i did it as authentically as i could again it's a simulation so i don't pretend to have the complete experience that you know somebody who's genuinely homeless is going through but i wanted to like any other i come from the private sector i start companies and like any other. the program that i've started i throw myself into my research to try and get the the closest possible first hand experience and so i slept on the streets i jumped from couch to couch friends acquaintances and got a lot of information it really did help to understand the psychology of people going through. through this this crisis. i was able to inform
5:44 pm
more comprehensive robust plans which we published on our site in terms of addressing our homelessness crisis and again the underlying issues of economic injustice and most important it gave me the opportunity to meet new yorkers directly to hear their stories to be able to humanize the problem and so the second time i did this was with a very clear objective to elevate the issue i wanted the media to cover it i wanted people to be aware of how massive this crisis is sixty thousand people sleeping on our streets twenty three thousand of which are children children who were just born into this no fault of their own about a third of our of our homeless population has some form of a mental illness and so as we start to talk about the problems in a much more humanized way i think it's easier for the public to realize how devastating this problem what it was something concrete you think can be done. well
5:45 pm
the first thing is we need to abolish our entire shelter system which is unsafe inadequate and and ultimately perpetuating the problem and we need to replace it with end to end rehabilitation program we call that program and y.c. life and basically we're going to be creating safe interim housing with comprehensive health care including mental health care for those who need it with child care you know all parents are getting themselves back on their feet and most important with job and vocational training so that we're not just getting folks off the street but we're actually helping them to rebuild their lives to get a skill that's you know monetize all in the job market place and to ultimately get their family to a point of stability so that they are financially independent that's what everyone wants nobody wants to be dependent on the city or on the state people want their independence and in every way including financially and so it's our job as
5:46 pm
a society to help them get there you know i'm basically i'm impressed with anyone who takes it upon themselves to run for office without the massive corporate democrat or republican machines behind them i think we need more people like yourselves getting involved in the system whether they have that corporate backing or not but i represent a much larger audience of people that for the most part been invisible to our government and to the people that are leading our city and i think it's about time that those voices are heard and with social media and digital media with people feeling young people being mobilized and for the first time in their lives sort of rolling up their sleeves and becoming very civically engaged now is the time for this sort of generational shift in terms of mindset in terms of the people that come into government and i just happen to be fortunate to be in this position right
5:47 pm
now but. as you can probably tell i'm not a politician i don't enjoy the process of politics but i do enjoy government i do enjoy problem solving and i think that's that's what this is should be all about well that's really great if there are people out there watching right now who want to help out your campaign in these last couple weeks what's the best way to do that . you can come to our site told in for mayor doc on c o l k i n and we have a sign up form there we have over two hundred volunteers now so we are we're looking to build the broadest possible ambassador program and if people want to participate and join and have their voice heard please please please come to our site if for nothing else let us know what government's doing wrong is that we can help solve it all right mike tolkien thank you so much for joining us thank you. ready to go to a quick break but i have a live comedy shows coming up in richmond virginia berlin germany portland oregon

and washington d.c. you can get tickets or vote for your own city at redacted tor dot com i'll be right back a lot more. you guys i made a professional is powerpoint to show you how artsy america it's good for the greater media landscape arts news not all left or all right but we are a solid alternative to the bullshit that we don't skew liberal or conservative and as you can see from this bar graph we don't skew the facts either talking you have lefties talking at righties oh there you go above it all to look at world is in the spotlight now every really hard no idea how to classify as when it actually took me way more time and i cared little bit. about your sudden passing i phone lee just learned you were yourself and taken your last turn. your act caught up to you as we all knew it would i tell you i'm sorry i could so i write these last

words in hopes to put to rest these things that i never got off my chest. i remember when we first met my life turned on each breath. but then my feelings started to change you talked about more like it was again still some more fun to view those that didn't like to question our arc and i secretly promised to never be like it said one does not leave the funeral the same as one enters the mind it's consumed with this one to. speak to because there are no other takers. claimed that mainstream media has met its maker. welcome back i want to go now to some standard c.n.n. coverage of what's going. on in north korea and how we need to protect our national security but before i can i can play that clip i have to show you which cut more
5:50 pm
commercial played white before the c.n.n. clip as part of the c.n.n. clip when i tried to watch it online. you can start with an ad for shell oil and then talk about how we need national security you know other business has caused more death and destruction and measuring in this world both the humans and dolphins then the oil and gas business they are. the worst so to have to take the little c.n.n. clip on how north korea is threatening a missile strike just after an ad for shell oil is. like having
5:51 pm
a segment on how important it is to just be genuine and be yourself and just just you are just after an ad for plastic surgery and botox and limp implants. spray on tan or maybe a strap on dildo. polar opposite. anyway now play the c.n.n. clip the u.s. and south korea will be kicking off with yet another round of joint military exercises these are naval drills and we know the north korea has been very unhappy lately because the u.s. deployed a nuclear submarine to the region they've deployed an aircraft carrier to the region these naval drills kick off yes north korea has been on a happy. they've also been a happy because our president is a lunatic and some like c.n.n. doesn't know that they talk about they don't know what an uninformed man-boy trump
5:52 pm
is that's what c.n.n. is made of that's all they do that is the beans in their beanie baby that is all they are like like how much can they trash trump a lot of it rightfully so and then and not then go maybe north korea's got a point maybe they're justified in not understanding what the this guy is doing you can well c.n.n. you can't have it both ways you can't you can't point out how drama trump is and then also be allies but north korea is just listen to him and do what he said as because he leaves a great nation around and also he lies blatantly all the time i mean to just say the last but days to. go bury him you can have a boat away. and. i want to i want to move on his secretary
5:53 pm
of exxon mobil rex tillerson who was on jake tapper's show on c.n.n. and i had a problem from just immediately secretary thompson thanks so much for joining us we appreciate it a pleasure joe we appreciate it i think the beginning of this interview should be i am sitting across from vomitus pottle of filth in a nag tie a former c.e.o. of one of the largest most destructive criminal called balls in the world exxon mobil a sickens me mr tillerson to be in the same room as you the smell alone is on fire a ball and thanks for taking the time dad should be the beginning of that interview
5:54 pm
and so ok so now jake tapper's about to ask a question think about all of the problems in the world that you could ask the secretary of state about everything from from from question about our global military had gemini to to our ship to africa to where all our soldiers are now being killed their habit to climate change and the devastation of our cities due to the heating up of the planet and the exxon mobile is one of the biggest culprits of why out there were tons of things to press the secretary of state on go for it tapper b.b.c. news reported that you were frustrated with president trump over the summer and you called him a moron is it true did you call him or did you call him a moron. that's your question. it's like having george soros or robert mercer in front of you the people funding our

oligarchy of oppression having them sit down with you and then go and do you like pop tarts a lot of people have speculated you do know and you know your diet is very important to us just we need more into the strawberry like them around sugar and we get to the bottom of this who. if television called trouble moron first of all if he did it we all know he's right of course trump is a moron and if he didn't then he's at least thinking his kind of moron and if he's not thinking he's a moron then we really have a problem because that means the secretary of state is a hit so so tell us it dodges the question which who gives it to who we have on the question again and finally tapper moves on to the next question maybe it may be about. the fact that five people now have the same amount of wealth as the

bottom fifty percent of the world and does such breathtaking inequality perhaps add to armed conflict around the world do you think that plays a part as that baby stroller will the lighter fluid on the fire stall little louvel on the penetration does does it take it away taps i want to ask about senator bob corker who said something about you he said the president has quote castrated you before the world stage that's his word not mine what's your response to that senator corker said you didn't have. how do you respond to that you asked three questions about calling someone a moron and now you are asking him how it feels to be called to you nick. is this like the blooper reel for access hollywood no not ok one more chance one more
5:57 pm
chance jake tapper for the fly and lob a fly and ask an important question and you don't want to say anything about the senate senator calling submissive just and you've been dealt it before the world and that's not anything that bothers you a check don't fully intact you have to gather three questions about moron and two questions about judo not. this is possibly the most put static display of journalism i think i've ever seen and although rex tillerson is acting just made at this line of questioning this is actually why the ruling elite love c.n.n. and all the corporate media they know they won't be asked anything important they know that that even if pressed even if pushed even if they think you dodged the question it will still be something completely lacking in substance it will be the
