an agent before monday the channel's bank accounts could be frozen if it doesn't comply. and saudi arabia and kuwait ordered their citizens out of lebanon immediately after the resignation of the saudi backed lebanese prime minister. very good evening to you my name is neil harvey this is r.t. international. and we'll start with the breaking news story wiki leaks has claimed that the cia's created a computer program that impersonates the software of the russian antivirus companies kaspersky lab let's get details on this story now from our correspondent caleb moore. take us through the story then and what else can you tell us is in the revelations. well at this point we have
4:31 pm
a new batch of documents from the wiki leaks vault eight as it's being called and this latest batch contains some documents surrounding a program called the hive now this is covert communications among cia operatives and essentially they're discussing malware software and how how to operate a centrally what is the infrastructure of malware programs of the cia now one of the interesting communications seems to show that the cia developed technology to imitate and impersonate a hugely popular and well known software company and russia called kaspersky laboratory now as folks will recall conspiracy laboratory has been at the center of some scandal recently we had u.s. authorities assembly barring any government agency from using their products saying that they present a risk to homeland security a recent report from the wall street journal accused kaspersky laboratory of
4:32 pm
essentially stealing government information and secrets with its malware software from the u.s. n.s.a. national security agency we actually had a statement from the u.s. homeland security secretary regarding kaspersky laboratory this is what she said. their risk that the russian government by their action on its own but in collaboration with conspiracy could capitalize on access provided by kaspersky products to compromise federal information and information systems directly implicates u.s. national security. but we have a response from kaspersky laboratory they said the company has never helped with nor will ever help any government in the world with cyber espionage or offensive cyber efforts that was their response they say they're a software company they're not involved in spying or cyber espionage or any of that kind of thing and now we have this release this hive in vault eight from wiki leaks showing that the cia had a program of imitating disperse the laboratory leaving centrally false digital
4:33 pm
fingerprints to look as if it was a laboratory there are three examples listed in the wiki leaks documents showing examples of a fake certificate on antivirus software making it appear as if this software which was actually created by the cia had come from kaspersky laboratories in moscow so at this point we're we're left in the dark all these allegations have been made against kaspersky laboratory but now we know the cia actually worked hard and had developed a program to imitate and frame essentially kaspersky laboratory leave digital fingerprints that looked as if they were from kaspersky laboratory so this leaves the users of malware in a kind of an awkward situation when you download malware on your computer you don't know if it could be from the laboratory or if this is actually malware created by the cia to imitate kaspersky laboratory so a lot of questions raised now that it's revealed that the cia had
4:34 pm
a program to imitate a well known russian software company. you know it's a revelation of this many things kill him open bring is the real. and a scalar mentioned volved haiti's a new series of wiki leaks publications on a huge traunch of leaked cia files that details some of the revelations in the previous batch that was called vault seven that revealed the agency had its own malware that it exploded vulnerabilities in phones and t.v.'s and that it had the ability to bypass encryption on messaging apps seven also featured a cia division called bridge which created the library of hacking techniques that had been stolen from other countries the agency also had a tool to the skies it's marwari and make it seem created by somebody speaking a language other than english as languages included arabic chinese russian korean and farsi that would make it more difficult to attribute
4:35 pm
a cyber attack to the cia because former intelligence officer sean believes that the latest revelations shouldn't come as a surprise. the wiki leaks cia vault seven and vault eight revelations are fascinating because the full seven revelations last year were field that for example the cia could actually make a hacked look at likely to come from russia under the bridge from china under marble and under many many other countries so it's actually really mucked up the whole concept of forensic hating any hack attacks that go on around the world so i suppose it was inevitable it would move on to looking at corporations that were had a gold standard of providing protection around the world for companies and also the american government by the way to spur ski is a highly reputable it's been operating for a couple of decades it has about four hundred million users around the world
4:36 pm
including until very recently the american governments so if they're going to do that whole countries of course are going to do it too competitive competitor corporations around the world to. speak now to british intelligence analyst more trade near harvey joins me on the line very good evening to you more so the cia has been accused before of mimicking other countries and companies apparently has this whole database of hacking techniques that it that it's basically pinched from other hackers why it's always needed well what has happened is that the cia have actually taken over. as the lead agency from the national security agency the n.s.a. they have a department which is the center for cyber intelligence within the cia lonely and. the whole area of espionage is moved on since human spy is
4:37 pm
used to wander around and try and recruit and run agents everything these days is in cyber and as the enemy shawn was just saying that. has been. a very reputable company and so what this is quite frankly it's a no russian compromise out that. you impersonate the as they see it the enemy could in fact mean for the chinese or in fact the north koreans and as a result of using the protect the hive program that they have that they. impersonate again and. again. in english on said earlier until recently the u.s. government also uses services of the. labs what has happened of course is the whole issue about. the influence of so-called
4:38 pm
influence of the russian government on the american elections and also. the allegations in terms of the french election for. the forthcoming german ones as well so it is mischief making. if you have. particular political and geopolitical operations looking and criticizing the russians they don't look carefully at what's happening. in terms of the revelation that the agency had a special program to control its malware operations i mean is this cutting edge stuff does it suggest that reach is grown. and absolutely i mean the whole thing is you know whether it's edward snowden whether it's wiki leaks whatever it results in an enormous embarrassment this is the one thing that
4:39 pm
intelligence agencies don't like when the spotlight of attention is shown upon them then they. will run away to go back under the stone again and it just so happens that the moment that it's being concentrated on the americans of course they're very very good the british aren't too bad either and of course the russians and also i have to say the north koreans are particularly good and so when your able to identify where you're able to plan. in systems of overseas supposedly hostile operations then as i say this is how espionage is for tuesday's whether it results in better information that is debatable but in terms of mischief making and this is what it is mischief making is highly effective and this latest leak is just two months
4:40 pm
after washington moved to have kaspersky banned from being used on u.s. government computers. perske the victim by any chance in all of this it had been thrown up as a sacrifice. yes yes i suppose it is you know that it has a good reputation a lot of companies as well as governments of usually services to protect it remember it is a protective service basically and so if you can. insert a virus into that protective operation that. really queries the their own credibility so as i say it is mischief making. if it were. gaining information gaining information about new high tech.
4:41 pm
and missile systems that would be more of the traditional role of intelligence agencies seeking information but as i say this is compromising the alternative the opposition compromised and it's a hugely expensive program but it is one that the americans and the american co-writers are extremely effective at doing. more some fascinating views appreciate your time i guess the more training a harvey british intelligence analyst. thank you. united states is trying to sow divisions in russia ahead of march's presidential election this is according to vladimir putin did that it comes as retaliation for moscow's alleged hacking right now it's sport this in the process especially for them. there are serious concerns that in response to a perceived meddling in the u.s. election they want to cause problems during the presidential election in russia during the olympic games are due to be held in february when it is the presidential
4:42 pm
election in march there are concerns that someone wants to sow discontent among sports fans and the athletes that the government is somehow responsible for the violations. so the statement actually came when putin was asked about fresh waves of doping allegations against russian athletes on thursday for example we had the results from four russian skiers an old who participated in the sochi olympics and they were banned for life from the games and that's a repeat of exactly what we saw last week when two other russian skiers were also accused of violating doping rules now the accusations continue to flow and are all centered around the idea that this was a state sponsored scheme now something that something that moscow has of course repeatedly denied including putin himself the key allegations behind the idea that this doping was state sponsored revolve around the idea that the samples from the russian athletes were in fact tampered with however putin highlighted the fact that
4:43 pm
when those samples were sent off just after the sochi olympics when they were sent to a lab in switzerland they were received and no complaints were leveled at the time was it because the switch just a few months following these sorts of lympics acting on the instructions of the i.o.c. we handed over all those samples to elysium laboratory which is essentially under what is control so there were no complaints whatsoever on receiving those samples so the samples had been stored there for two or three years and only then did questions arise the vials. have been opened or simply been doing with the samples has been scratching. so the fact that these accusations are emerging again right now isn't a coincidence in the present is given that the presidential election is just over one hundred days of way and that starts just one month after the beginning of the winter games so that's essentially sort of encouraging a really tense climate in the run up to the election ok so where does the united states come into this well putin sees this as an answer by the u.s.
4:44 pm
for the allegations that russia interfered in the two thousand and sixteen presidential election sort of an eye for an eye reaction and that's made possible by the fact that the i.o.c. the international olympic committee is highly dependent on sponsors and those buying ads and of course the bulk of that cash is in fact coming from the u.s. according to putin who also under that with calling for improvement to the anti-doping system in the sports world world clearly he sees a number of inconsistency is there sports not the only field where russia is on the pressure the u.s. justice department has ordered auntie america to register as a foreign agent and do so by monday if the broadcaster fails to do so its bank accounts could be frozen the controversial legislation used was adopted seventy years ago that was way back before world war two and it was used to counter the nazi propaganda in america the russian embassy in the u.s. said in a facebook post the measures against russian media could be in breach of international freedom of press principles. harsh pressure put on russian media shows that the us
4:45 pm
keeps moving along the path of deliberate worsening of relations between russia and america and we see the latest demands as an effort to quell all sorts of alternative information and an unacceptable breach of international principles of the freedom of the press we call in organizations which monitor the situation in the us with regard to media to react accordingly it will be interesting to see how the c.e. reacts we expect an appropriate assessment of the situation from the unesco goodwill ambassador for freedom of expression and journalist safety christiane amanpour and pressure on russian media doesn't end there u.s. lawmakers are now considering a bill that proposes that cable and satellite providers are required to carry three d. a content somehow linked to the cry.
