success thanks to the union of grand turkey and russia so after roughly one and a half hours of talks all along with the foreign ministers and the heads of militaries when the three presidents came out to say a few words to the journalist we finally heard about the number one decision for the new stage the creation of the syrian national dialogue congress it will be an unprecedented platform for inclusive of all syria talks and all kinds of political ethnic religious groups are expected to be involved it is going to convene here and saw it she but the date and the specific list of participants hasn't been decided just yet the leaders say that it should pave the way for a new constitution in syria and new elections and it all looks good on paper i can tell you. that ankara tehran and moscow all are really genuinely looking forward
3:04 pm
for the plan to work on the ground on monday we heard the president of syria bashar assad telling vladimir putin that he is ready for a new rounds of dialogue reforms and the new elections that i mentioned mr putin tried to convey this message to the leaders of iran and turkey and when it comes to the syrian opposition they are always in close contact with ankara rot so the hope is definitely there. well last discussed this with my dad had of the political sciences and how one university welcome to the program and i think i'll start with your opinion on how crucial you think today's trilateral talks are . while in c.v.s. it's like a web of interests. what i can see now is a new site speak who talks what they can see now is
3:05 pm
a breakthrough of getting that i've to sit together i wouldn't for a second believe that. the. iranians would like to sit with the turkish sides all together. for. conflicting purposes like turkey insists that said has no future role why iran insists that has a sustainable role. now putin has a great political liver which of getting them together this is like to sit together and have this breakthrough it's like very important first step however i believe that the conflicting interests would not be. in the first
3:06 pm
meeting. trilateral talks because it's a very complicated weapon but interests yeah i mean you know i want to expand on that it's a very complicated web isn't it because within those three leaders who are working together now talking for example deems kurds to be terrorists so how easy is it going to get those three to agree and also they've opened up the talks for ethnic groups opposition leaders how easy is it going to get all of them to agree on how to move forward in the country. well. turkey has a foodstuff in. syria northern syria the president's military presence of turkey in northern syria so they have. defacto. present situation that. has already started. a military
3:07 pm
base in iran and the. revolutionary guards are available in the cd in presence in the ground so what we're talking about now is how to coordinate the conflicting. interests the interests. as i said would not be resolved. this with conflicting interests need to take plenty of time plenty of talks now first they have the. issues that could be resolved. to start with we call them acceptance is the first step in any negotiation is to see the acceptance of a.b. the acceptance in the end now it's very narrow later on i believe that we have bilateral. talks between iran. turkey this
3:08 pm
is a subsequent step but dr electoral talks is very important beginning because of the livery of. to put them together this is a very important step less so look at how america going to react to this proposal of inclusive constitutional actions in syria they have obviously been very vocal about their anti assad stance how do you think they're going to react. well if we political science we have a listen theory and idealism theory there really isn't theory now it's the jurisdiction. is for putin now put in has order russia i would say has more to live a much more. leverage in syria than. the us actually
3:09 pm
the us since. bamma administration they left it. for the russians so i believe. what's happening now getting the two conflicting parties in cheek in. such searching what's what's the name sushi ok getting them to sochi in russia meaning that i have lived over those two parties so. the us cannot get all those parties because they know that. what's happening now cannot be a result of the courts are not in the hands of the us that's why. the settlement diplomatic settlement phase will be settled in jena eva. russia
3:10 pm
all because done no no other place not in washington d.c. that's what i believe ok professor. of political science at how long university great to have you on the program and have your thoughts thanks. for the lebanese prime minister has announced he's putting a surprise resignation on how after the country's president asked him to reconsider . i'm stream with we continue. we shall story together and we shall carry on. the political crisis began when the lebanese prime minister announced his resignation inside the arabia's capsule riyad the decision was televised and was met in beirut with disbelief with many suspecting he'd been pressured by the

societies then france's president micron invited to riri and his family to paris where the french leader assured him of his political support off to paris hariri flew back to lebanon for independence day though not without paying lightning visit so the president of egypt and then the leader of cyprus on his way and now he's back in beirut having made his surprise announcement artie's maria from the brings us the latest from the lebanese capital. pool is a surprise but a relief time prime minister hariri has been speaking from beirut for the first time on the lebanese soil in the last twenty days that has been a very turbulent time for lebanon more than two weeks ago mr hariri left the country and he announced his resignation in a televised speech while speaking from the capital of saudi arabia and i draw the kind of crisis here to lebanon and today is speaking after the official part of the independence day celebrations take you see now they are still continue here in
3:12 pm
beirut mr heriot has said that he agrees to put his decision on hauled off to be disgusted with the lebanese president and he stressed that the major goal right now is to gas and keep level away from any arab conflict he didn't give any further specific detail but as he earlier mentioned the attempt by some iranian backed military and political forces to meddle into fairytale lebanon and throughout the arab region as the major reason behind his decision to resign his today's speech was under to by many as the l.t. makes him that this iranian influence should be diminished i have been able to speak to people here on the ground and they have told me that given how influential iran bag forces are this could be a difficult thing to do but it is also clear mr hariri made it clear that if it's not happening he might come back to this because he's very sick they should

decision again so i guess this is the challenge that lebanon is now facing. professor history and international relations jamal wakim believe the saudis are using her really as a to put more pressure on iran. i believe got damaged a lot here received. the news probably. from mr foley was humiliated. we need to admit the. father of the how do you leave. a long time representative. in lebanon and it is a widespread believe in lebanon and how do you was forced to nation by a muslim southern man at a time when the crown prince of saudi arabia. is trying to increase the tension in iran especially in lebanon after they lost their influence

in iraq. and syria. the international olympic committee has handed lifetime bans to four russians skeleton athletes to the athletes have also been stripped of winter olympic medals say says it disqualified the athletes for violating anti doping rules at the twenty fourteen games and is cashmore professor of sociology at aston university says there's an atmosphere of fear among russian athletes to hoping to compete. i mean it must be dreadful i can't even get myself into the mind of an athlete to imagine that it if i prepared for four years maybe longer still waiting for the outcome of the deliberations to know whether i'd be allowed to compete for what is after all a lifetime's goal i mean it's unimaginably difficult for them you know in a properly run world probably so this should not happen but let's think of an analogy it's as if in moscow city center for the past several saturday nights the a

high number of driving under the influence of alcohol arrests you would expect that the offenders would be tried individually cases evaluated and they would be punished accordingly we wouldn't expect everyone who holds a driving license in moscow to be banned but that is effectively what is being contemplated at the moment. in these new cases should not really material impact the material impact the decision on whether to disqualify russia as a nation but i think in the real world they probably will. the former bosnian serb army commander. has been handed a life sentence for his role in atrocities committed during the bosnian war mullard it was found guilty on trial out of eleven counts including crimes genocide and crimes against humanity and was sentenced by a un court in the head it. was in command of the bosnian serb army at the height of

the bosnian conflict between one thousand nine hundred two and ninety ninety six taking part in the siege of the capital he was also found responsible for ordering a series of persecutions and exterminations across many other towns including where thousands of muslims mostly men and young boys were slaughtered by his troops rows of stands for tourists to buy things in among the things they can buy or to. general a lot of his face on them and generals hats of the tape exactly worn by general and i can tell you that later today there's going to be a run on those stalls and you're going to see young children aged ten and twelve years old buying those t. shirts and buying those generals hat doesn't that tell us a little bit more about what the reality is here. now a book for toddlers and preschoolers depicting a transgender man who has women's clothes and lipstick as well as
3:17 pm
a horse who believes it's a dog has been published sparking very mixed reactions while we're going to discuss the issues raised cross live to david curtin a spokesman from the united kingdom independence party and peter fox human rights campaign and welcome to the program both of you i'm going to start with you david what's not to like about this book isn't it preparing the children for a very diverse world that we live in now with all sorts of people minority groups of all kinds and this is just one of those my groups isn't it. well it is a minority group and when your an adult when you're over eighteen you're in told to do what you want in the privacy of your own home and i don't think anyone would disagree with that but propagandizing this kind of thing to children. you know you can damage them in their natural development as boys and girls you know nature is binary nature creates male and female there are boys and girls and we you know as
3:18 pm
well as the book moves to try and ban the words boys and girls men and women mothers and fathers in primary education and this is a time when children really need to be in their identity is who they are and this is just something that's far too much too young is going to confuse people and you know children are imaginative they play they pretend to be all kinds of things they pretend to be footballers they pretend to be aliens spacemen unicorns they may be pretending to be men and women as well but you have to. separate imagination in play from objective scientific fact and the fact is that your agenda or your biological sex is defined by your anatomy and by your chromosomes and that's the science that we need to be making sure that children know and the science that we need to be teaching children and affirm the been growing up in peter davis using quite strong was damaging imagination play big in the word issues what are your thoughts about this do you think that the book places too much emphasis on those
3:19 pm
minority groups. war transgender people exist in every society and have done all throughout history and when they have been scientific studies of animal species transgenderism is also been found in non-human animals so it is part of the natural spectrum of life for all animal species human and non-human this book is not about promoting or encouraging transgenderism it's about trying to affirm young people who don't feel they fit neatly into the male female roles and trying to tackle boarding and prejudice we know that in britain for example nearly harth of all young transgender people have attempted suicide nearly half that's a shocking statistic and we need to try and reduce that not just in britain but in

every country and i think any book like this one that seeks to promote understanding and respect for people who are different that's fantastic because we want to live in a car gentle compassionate society david. peter mentioned some fake is there and in a survey said that the number of children question that gender identity is in sweden which is where this book was written is doubling annually so there is a need for a book like this in the also i just want to point out that the author you know does have a page in genetics and biology and she said she was inspired after meeting several students who had gone through gender transitions. so so do you agree that there isn't every climate for children to be exposed to a book like this. no no no i mean yes the figures are at the moment it's doubling every year in sweden but that's because children in schools are being exposed to this kind of material and that's very very new all through history yes there may be
3:21 pm
a few. very small number of people. or transgender and then you know particularly when they were adults but it's never been an issue in primary school until about twenty fifteen in this if you look at this country. and there was the laws changed i think twenty two two thousand and two to allow people to register to change their gender if they wanted to and they had to go through a two year process of living as the opposite gender now in twelve years there were four and a half thousand people in total who registered to change their gender but since we've actually started bringing this teaching into schools the number is rocketed in the united kingdom so i think this isn't a problem that's entirely artificial because people have tried to do this first of all to children who are fourteen or fifteen and then children who are ten eleven then seven and now it's five year olds and four year olds and this book in sweden
3:22 pm
is going to two year old children three year old children in preschool when when children are two and three they're not thinking about this kind of thing they want to play they want to be imaginative but exposing children to this kind of idea that they're not boys they're not girls you know that's something that can come later on if they want to think about it sixteen seventeen eighteen when there are adults in the very damaging thing about this is then they're encouraged to take puberty blocking hormones and in some cases encourage to have operations where they have operations done on their reproductive organs and that's something that they can never reverse and we do hear situations of people who have been encouraged into that and then they change them. well no one can eventually children will come to their eyes that's fine if they're not or they change their mind that's also fine but the one thing we've got to stop is the prejudice and bigotry that trans kids face and that's the statistic of about half of all young trans people in but that's
3:23 pm
a different issue from. dressing up that may enjoy dressing up the main joy playing they may be boys and girls who are not stereo typically what you might think as the boy i mean that's a sort of stereotype that's going away but you know you might identify a boy who doesn't do typical male play but that doesn't mean that they're trance it doesn't even mean that they're gay it just means that they enjoy doing different things to do other boys or girls doing different things to other girls and to try to find those people and identify them as something at a very early age and put a label on them it is wrong and this is something that never happens until two or three years ago people were just left to play do what they want and then they can you know decide and think about those kind of things later but it is damaging if these puberty blocking hormones are available on the n.h.s.
3:24 pm
and they're being prescribed to people those children as young as ten you know so this is an issue if you go into primary schools and people are trying to identify people as trans and then operating and giving them chemicals and doing physical surgical operations this is absolutely wrong to be doing this to anyone under the age of eighteen when they're an adult and when they're old enough to make their own decisions. yeah peter i just say that i had to say that this book does not seek to label anyone as anything it's not about pressuring young people to become translate to change their gender there's no attempt to identify trans kids the purpose is to create a kind of respect for atmosphere in the school or the playgroup so that those kids who aren't you know the macho boy or the feminine girl then not victimize they're not bullied it's not about hormone blockers or gender reassignment this is simply
3:25 pm
about creating understanding and compassion towards people who are different you have the right to be different is. well of course young people at a very early age become aware of gender issues because of the toys they're given because of what they hear their parents or other kids say around them so i think it's really positive to bring them a gentle awareness of these issues develop depression or anxiety and if you see other kids like this don't bully them don't name call them don't treat them badly treat them with respect and i think that culture from a young age most young kids understand that they get the message i think it's i don't know who are panicked about this issue whereas young kids are able to take it on board david you're shaking your head a bit there when people are talking it is only a children's book why are you still objecting to this. and it's because of the issue i mean it's actually delving into something that young minds.
