well for more on what's going on right now in beirut we can cross live to local journalist martin j. well martin i mean how tense is the atmosphere now in the lebanese capital. right now as you join me tensions to so calm the bit if you can see behind me police of retreated to a position closer to the u.s. embassy as sort of cleanup which is started so well things are calming at the other end of the street something like perhaps a hundred meters or so the crowd has been dispersed noise but i mean more flare ups now presently well in light of what's been happening let's go back to that and the initial statement by president trump about his decision to ensure that he thinks jerusalem should be israel's capital let's just listen to what he had to say. therefore i have determined that it is time to officially recognize

jerusalem as the capital of israel. and we can hear the margin so i mean what impact do you think terms decision will have on israel and the wider middle east. it's starting to have quite a considerable impact i mean these demonstrations are beginning to roll out now and where i think we're at the beginning of something quite big you know just in two thousand and eleven just six years ago or so we saw what sparks the arab spring then and now that i'm sure a lot of governments love the leaks in the region and i think many of those same elites in the middle east will be wondering is this going to escalate and does this really but pose a threat and itself to the stability of those of many of these countries inspiration. or translate it was also condemned by a number of arab countries which have similarly seen anti turn demonstrations themselves i mean let's then have a listen to what has been said let's have a listen no one has the right to play with the fates of billions of people for the

sake of one's personal ambitions. so the kingdom of jordan refuses the recognition by the state soldier versus the capital of israel. and make the decision by the united states in its context gives legitimacy and recognition for occupation and the allowance of a de facto status using force. but we heard there from turkey and from jordan and from the arab league themselves i mean how much do you think this decision from president trouble have an impact across the region. i think it will have a certain amount of impact i'm not think it very much depends on whether countries like lebanon who are suggested imposing some sort of a sanction against america and other countries pick up the same initiative and run with it i mean i don't think in a full level those these countries can do much against america but on an informal

level certainly it be very interesting to see the next few days and coming weeks where the people in this part of the world start actually changing their habits what they buy in shops where they make more protests on the street not just again. embassy's got any think which represents america i mean there's a real groundswell of hate across the arab world in particular in the middle east against the says this decision which you know seems on the face of it to be quite full hardy and taken without a great deal of thought and preparation for me personally i think as a journalist we we we received the news of this happening and many of us believe that this is sort of really not having any respect to any god watch over the big of the opinions of the big players in the region and just simply working very closely with the israelis and that i think is going to cost them dearly. i look at some of the proposals i mean lebanon has suggested sanctions against the u.s. i mean is that unprecedented. it's unprecedented and i think it's quite an

interesting one that already in such a very very short space of time such radical ideas are being thrown into the into the into such like really you know we'll have to see in the next few days whether other countries follow up or going to try and come up with similar ideas but i think at this stage it's probably too early to say funnyman samian hamas and hezbollah have urged a new intifada means several rockets have been fired into israel in just the last few days and how do you see that escalating. well i think that's a real does a real problem dollars the real issue i think probably trumps people no doubt predicted that they probably assumed it would be some sort of reaction from from the west bank and from the gaza strip but i think that feeds into the narrative into the long term objectives of trumper the region which is designed to create chaos because that increases also that makes companies like lucky bargains or share prices go through the roof you know it's really all about investing in long term
