manslaughter. you're watching our international coming to you live from moscow i'm kate partridge thank you for joining us. and we start with our breaking news story new york police department are responding to a blast at the central bus station in manhattan they say the course of the explosion is currently unclear and why p.t.d. also say that one person who is also a suspect has known life threatening injuries. now joining us live now with the details on the telephone has artie's correspondent caleb moore could hi there caleb so what more do we know. well now we are hearing reports that the info that took place in new york already second street or. in this report authority building there are you. keep in mind this is where the buses that are coming into
9:02 am
manhattan this is where they tend to deposit and drop off people these are greyhound buses from all over the country is a buses from new jersey commuter buses this is just a hub of commuting and transportation into manhattan and from what we understand that is where the incident took place now there's also a train station below it there was a ball last august on clear what caused the blast but at the moment we are hearing that the area is being rapidly evacuated by the new york city police department they are clearing the building the bomb squad is on the scene trying to deduce what happened now we are hearing reports that an individual as been detained by the by the police with non-life threatening injuries now we're also hearing reports about a possible pipe bomb our people are calling a pipe bomb in the area being located that's not confirmed and as of yet we're just trying to figure out what the cause of this blast was. now when the incident took
9:03 am
place at the new york city police department immediately on the screen on the scene the swat team moved in swat teams were in the area and it's important to keep in mind that this is just a block away from times square this is one of the most heavily policed sections of new york city this is in manhattan but not so far from times square just a very very sour widely policed area kind of a center of tourism however you know on a morning like this and right now it is it is just now nine o'clock with the blast happening maybe about an hour and a half ago. you know this is just this is this is commuter prime time there are thousands and thousands of people pouring into manhattan to begin their work day and and areas like this you know eighth avenue the train stations below that avenue the bus stations coming in from new jersey these areas are going to be packed full of people ready to. begin their work day on monday morning so when
9:04 am
a blast goes off in an area like that the potential for a tallit is rather large as these individuals are very tightly packed into a small area and very long are brought however at the moment we're not seeing any reports of injuries you know there have not been any reports we haven't seen anything on social media images of injuries other than the report from the new york city police department about this person that they have in custody who is apparently has suffered non-life threatening injuries so a lot of questions are being asked at the moment but from what we understand all the trains that are going to forty second street not only the trains going the site of the blast the ac any trains but also the seven train the five train other trains that go into the area are now skipping the forty second street stop and going past it so are not allowing people to get off the train at forty second street probably in compliance with the new york city police department's evacuation of the area so
9:05 am
people are not being permitted to get off at forty second street from what we understand that whatever the trains seem to thawing through those stations which indicates that the stations are functional however the area has been evacuated and people are not being permitted to have to get out now traffic in manhattan and even in you know in in the in the areas getting into manhattan on the highways on the bridges is just packed is just very intense you know this is really thrown everything for a loop i mean traffic is just backed up for a long way as people are trying to get into the city for monday morning but the t.v. areas including forty second street and eighth avenue are shut down so a lot of questions being raised it appears that the area has he is being evacuated and that an individual is in detention a lot of questions being raised about what exactly is going on with still getting to the bottom of it we're seeing reports about a possible pipe bomb you know that. a bomb is in gunpowder
9:06 am
a pipe but that is not confirmed so a lot of questions being raised that it's not clear i would terrorism have not been years people are not ready to use that word as it's not clear you know what went on so would risk your rating for details to surface that a lot of questions are being raised and we should what we understand we will be hearing from new york city's mayor bill de blasio shortly about the incident thank you very much for that update that caleb moore and also we do have a line just coming i mean r.t. talked to the new york police department and they have confirmed that there are two other minor injuries besides the suspect who is in custody and will be having well we're bringing you more details as we have them thank you. well to remind you the cause of this explosion is still unclear and police haven't decided yet whether to treat it as a terror attack however all eyes are now on what's happening in new yorkers just a month ago the city's deadliest attack since nine eleven took place.

just a father had been planning this for a number of weeks you did this in the name of isis. and moving on to other news here on our team president putin has ordered the start of the withdrawal of russian forces from syria that's just days after he announced the complete defeat obviously mixtape in syria daniel hawkins joins me in the studio earlier with more details. also in many will view it that way kate especially from a military point of view this of course was a surprise visit as you mentioned earlier to the base in latakia is part of putin's middle eastern visit he is off to egypt next to visit the president there abdel

fattah el-sisi who will discuss the issue with alongside news about his negotiations with. the turkish president as well he has made it clear that while the bulk of the troops is withdrawing as early as today in fact the first pilots flying back to russia we understand. the military forces will be quick to return if the terrorists include his own words rear their heads once again let's take a listen to a statement. about it on the air to the defense minister and the head of the general staff would have started he would draw all of the russian forces to their permanent legacy if the terrorists dare to raise their heads again and we will strike back with the strength they've never seen before now of course the base in tartus in attack here will remain although the bunk of the bulk of troops is going home over the last two years the russian troops have played a very important role in backing the syrian army in regaining territory ever again around ninety percent of the country russian troops were closely involved in

thousands in iraq as a salih the jihadist militant group and came to prominence in two thousand and three after the american invasion however back then the organization was too weak to terrorize the world but by two thousand and fourteen i saw a grown strong enough to proclaim itself a caliphate a terrorist state with its own currency laws and vast territory both in syria and in iraq that's when the us pledge to crush it i can announce that america will lead a broad coalition to roll back this terrorist threat. our ject it is clear we will degrade and ultimately destroy. the small syrian town of kabbani was the first major loss for i saw.
9:11 am
i still fought back and managed to make further territorial gains but ones not quite as significant as in the early days in september two thousand and fifteen russia joined the fight rolling out its. large scale anti terror campaign in syria my. lowest. six months after the start of the russian campaign another major symbolic loss for i saw the liberation of power myra the city where the terrorists filmed one of their most horrific executions. russian air strikes destroyed oil trucks in tankers draining the terrorists' cash source and while i suppose money was burning the u.s. led coalition together with the iraqis and the kurds attacked isis biggest city
9:12 am
mosul. the battle for mosul turned out to be a long one waged over nine months and victory came at a tremendous cost turning a city with two million inhabitants into rubble. after the liberation of mosul the coalition shifted its focus on syria backing its kurdish allies in their push against isis self-proclaimed capital raca in october two thousand and seventeen the city was completely liberated. and. the final nail in the caliphates coffin was the liberation of their resort the syrian city which i saw besieged for three years.
9:13 am
after the loss of their resort there was not much of a state left for i saw they suffer defeat after defeat being pushed from all sides and all parties u.s. and russian air strikes sads and iraqi forces kurdish militias and hezbollah are. all russia's latest declaration that syria has been liberated from i still has sparked a new rift between key foreign forces fighting terrorists in the country we didn't sit well with the u.s. led coalition which now claim it's the only force that's made what it calls meaningful progress against islamic state parties and here and explains. everyone was gearing up to celebrate isos grip on syria was loosening and the u.s. coalition forces had the champagne on ice we are defeating isis we're really
9:14 am
winning we know how to win places in terms of a physical caliphate will be gone by the end of the year but when the black flag was finally lowered some felt the limelight was stolen and used and about on the locals to russia's defense minister reported that the military operation on the east and west banks of the euphrates river is now completed with the full defeat of the terrorists of course there could still be some pockets of resistance but in general combat actions at this stage and on this territory are over. how dare russia claim the moment of glory i want to thank general mattis for doing such a great job with respect to this he's not the hell out of. myself made it possible with what i've let you do i think. so instead of celebrating some chose perhaps predictably to squabble over. i find it surprising that russia takes all the credit
9:15 am
for defeating eisel in reality eisel occupied a large part of syria and iraq and it was the coalition that shrank the territory occupied by the jihadists let's step back and look at how i still lost ground in the south the syrian army backed by russian at power repainted the map from back to damascus red well coalition forces with the help of the kurds did much of the heavy lifting by liberating swathes of northern syria but heaven forbid we should even consider this a team effort. with the support of the russian air force the syrian army liberated hundreds of cities from territories and returned almost all the countries territory to the government controlled. the us led coalition the russian federation the syrian regime is the only fields that has made meaningful progress against isis three years the various sides have said a common goal driving i saw out of syria but now that's been achieved for some the
9:16 am
main thing now is taking all the credit it is still absolutely critical to the us role in the world to maintain this this narrative that it is a response only responsible for. you know the good things that happen in the world while its enemy is responsible for all the bad things and and unfortunately it sees russia as not just a competitor really as an enemy at this point. well another stunt for the russian president is monday's cairo where his met his egyptian counterpart here trying to joins me live now with more details about the meeting. behind every i mean pigeon street was actually planned some time ago but the timing in this region seems particularly person doesn't it.
9:17 am
kate hi well a like when vladimir putin suddenly showed up in syria as you were saying this trip was planned in advance but you're absolutely right what kind of timing is that and being able to squeeze in talks with both the presidents of egypt and turkey and cairo and cry and we're talking about a timeframe of just a few hours while donald trump's jerusalem move continues to send shock waves really across the entire region the entire middle east and as abdel fatah sisi and vladimir putin were addressing the media here at the presidential palace in cairo we heard more condemnation of that move from the two presidents we didn't hear a lot of putin directly referring to this but he used the word counterproductive while his egyptian counterpart called donald trump's move reckless and that was
9:18 am
a direct reference here and again all of this is being said in cairo where it looks like the arab league is ready to convene later this week and come up with a united official response which will basically represent the governments and officials from the entire region but even before monday a lot has been said in front of microphones and also in the streets. they cannot opposed people's feelings and beliefs this is a new type of adventurism and global arrogance of the us. the kingdom of jordan refuses the recognition by the united states over jerusalem is the capital of israel the decision by the united states in its context gives legitimacy and recognition for occupation and the allowance of a de facto status using force indeed it is fair to say that the broader

region not all the the arab nations but the entire islamic community is now standing up to the palestinians and i guess so far we can say that the harshest rhetoric came from the turkish president tiber dog so let's take a look at what that led to. is roe is a terrorist state i'm not used to receiving. lectures. about morality from a leader who bombs kurdish villagers in his native turkey. who dreams dreams. hopes you're on your. international sanctions and to those jurors so kate as i was saying back to vladimir putin's trip his next destination as ankara where he is going to meet the turkish president tibe air do on and they will also produce a joint statement after that surely they will talk about the escalating tensions

a place were called to the hotel after it was reported a man had been seen pointing a gun out of his window the weapon was actually an air rifle the victim twenty six year old daniel shaver had been drinking with friends in his hotel room he was showing them his air rifle which a witness thoughts may have been a lethal weapon well mark garagos who is representing the victim's family says it's the most horrific shooting he's have a scene but a jury acquitted the officer off murder and one sort of challenges last thursday human rights activist randy short believes the officers claims that he felt threatened don't hold up first and foremost said officer was with the group of other people with gun so there was no way that that man even if he had a weapon was going to be able to overcome that many people with body armor with high powered automatic weaponry it is a fantasy and a a

a sick joke that the officer claimed the fear for his life was excessive force it was an execution i believe that many officers are psychologically unstable they're dangerous people and essentially they have a license to kill. now let's have a recap on the possible attack in new york n.y.p.d. earlier confirmed they are responding to a blast at the central bus station in manhattan they say the cause of the explosion is currently unclear police also confirmed that one person who is also a suspect has non life threatening injuries along with three other people. will remind you the cause of this explosion is still unclear and police haven't decided yet whether or not to treat it as a terrorist act however all eyes are now what's happening in new york is just a month ago the city's deadliest attack since nine eleven took place.

the war against islamic state may be entering its final phase in syria but a resolution to the country's wider civil conflict is not yet inside while the deadly grind continue or can do the warring parties be finally brought to the table while i ask nikolaus one dumb former dutch special and way to syria. state is making its final stand in syria shaken by the blows of government and kurdish forces the end of the war against the caliphate is in sight. what will happen to the. president. of the syrian civil war only served to prolong the carnage. because when dan former dutch special envoy to syria a veteran diplomat author off destroying a nation the civil war in syria welcome to the show great pleasure to have you with

us joined an islamic state holds no more than a few small towns and south as serious stunning reversal from the times one that stretched from aleppo to was so now you might expect isis to revert to guerrilla tactics and terrorism now how dangerous well the terror will be after its military defeat it well there will be under groaned so it's more difficult to actually do undergrown organization so they will try to do terrorist operations perhaps not in syria about girls were in the world so why do you think they are going to get resources for that. where well that's the point the since they don't have and the oil and gold they have less resources but you don't need much resources to carry out a terrorist attack why you don't need that much resources to carry out a terrorist attack but you do need resources to keep an organization together you
9:28 am
have to feed the people yes but i think they will have their cells or even people who are not really part of the organization are willing to carry out attacks on their own a separate cells so the syrian forces fighting isis are taking having losses in there as our whereas islamic state getting the strength and lots of aisha from to make a tough last stand in their remaining syrian territory i mean why aren't they folding like a house of cards right now they are ministry defeated they are perhaps still stretched out to various desert areas within syria or perhaps small parts of iraq so but an organization which doesn't have an army can still carry out all kinds of terrorist attacks all over the world as we have seen in europe for instance in western europe there have been various at the expo people who have grown up in europe they are not

being sent by the so-called islamic states but they are already there and sometimes for various generations wise ass is more resistant to assad's troops than the u.s. backed syrian democratic forces after the fall of rocca. struck a truce recently with a.s.d. af according to the reports from the inside syria media center. well i think there it is the same it depends on let's say the syrian regime wants to attack the islamic states just as well but thus far over the past few years the syrian regime has used other forces to eliminate one another it's a kind of war economy so sometimes it looked and the syrian regime has been accused of gordon a thing with the islamic state but in fact if that was the case at all it was just the let's say a military strategy to use other forces to eliminate other. and
9:30 am
i mean and i think that still is going to happen in a province like it live in the northwest there you have the the successor of. and they will be perhaps at that by the americans by others by the turks so as long as other countries other armies are doing the work for him to syrian army it's all right with the muskets so day use use these other forces like friends the kurdish forces in the north they have received in the past arms of the syrian regime not because they were friends of the syrian regime but because at that stage it suited the syrian regime to use them to attack others and lemonade them so once these other forces have been eliminated like this lemming state then i think this era and regime will turn to others and the miis like the dick kurdish forces in the last.
