an attempted terrorist attack in manhattan in new york and the suspect is injured after an explosion rocked the central bus station where you live updates in just a few moments. the backlash continues to escalate against president from recognition of jerusalem as israel's capital protests around the world include attempts to storm the u.s. embassy and demands for the american ambassadors resignation. graphic bodycount video is released in the us showing a police officer shooting dead an unarmed man he was later cleared of murder and
11:01 am
manslaughter. thank you for watching r.t. international coming to you live from moscow i'm kate partridge. now let's start this hour with more sorties in new york confirming that they believe a blast on the subway was an attempted terror attack they also said that a lone tech device was detonated police have also confirmed that one person who was also a suspect has non life threatening injuries along with three other people well here we can see what's believed to be a video of the botched attack we cannot verify its authenticity and yet you can see a flash followed by at heart of white smoke and people fleeing the scene as the smoke clears one person you seen lying on the ground and another program.
11:02 am
that will stalk about this further i'm joined by our correspondent jacqueline berger well hi there jacki so we've seen the video we switch of exactly what's happened and what we will. have claimed was a terrorist attack so what kind of day has it been a new well it started quite early brown seven twenty in the morning that's when the calls came in that there were some sort of explosion at that point it wasn't even clear if it was in the actual metro itself it was or if it was in the port authority building that is also located at the same spot that's. the intersection of forty six to forty second street and eighth avenue now we do know now that the explosion actually took place in a passageway between two metro stations that's the times square station and the port authority station so of course needless to say those are huge hubs of transportation people there early morning rush hour there's going to be lots and lots of people and so what we do know at this point is the new york mayor said that
11:03 am
this was an attempted terrorist attack let's take a listen to what he had to say. so he was saying the new york mayor bill de blasio he said let's be clear this is attempted this was an attempted terrorist attack including only one person so it is believe this was an isolated incident just this one person and so we also had the police commissioner saying this was terrorist related and when he was specifically asked if there was any connection to a group he said that the man in custody was making statements but they were not prepared to comment on what those statements were at that point so it's not fully clear what his motives were but the new york city officials are saying that it is terrorist related at least so they did come out with some information on the suspect who they have said is twenty seven year old. he is
11:04 am
believed to be from brooklyn in new york city and he's twenty seven years old and. the police did say that he had an improvised low tech device attached to his body and we can see that as we can see those details on the screen now i mean attached to his body but also he got away with minor injuries and also only minor injuries to the street people around him as well exactly they were really emphasizing the idea this is low tech this is homemade imperf improvised and that the suspect himself had burns and wounds on his hands and abdomen and those three other people who were injured they are very minor injuries but they are all being treated in hospitals local hospitals so it's still not one hundred percent clear what the goal was if he meant to explode right at that spot or not but that's what the information is at this point in time of course president trump has been briefed on the on the incident and an investigation has of course been started into the
11:05 am
incident it's a case of what happened in this case of that if questions are now to be answered on that and in the meantime we can now cross to. correspondent caleb open he's in new york hi there we we can now see you on here which is which is good news but you know i mean effectively it could have been such a bad news story for new york maybe it's not as bad as we'd failed what would be nice. well we're here on eighth avenue and we're just a block away from the port authority building now from what we understand the incident took place underground on in the subway in the passage from one subway station to the other and at this point what we understand the port authority building that's the bus station in which the buses from new jersey greyhound buses and others are deposited into new york where people get off into manhattan that is fully operational at this point life is coming back to normal now the subways are not at this point back to normal from what we understand of the service people are
11:06 am
not getting off at forty second street yet and as you can see around me the streets are a little bare you know the the road is blocked off with there's fire department vehicles there's new york city police department vehicles there's helicopters flying above and the situation is a little bit tense but the roads are not packed and people are kind of reacting to what took place now people in the buildings nearby described how they did hear you know a boom they did hear an explosion of some type but people are relieved with the reports coming out that there were no fatalities that there was only injuries and there were not life threatening injuries and it looks like new york city is starting to breathe a sigh of relief and and get a little bit back to normal here on a monday morning as commuters had their morning commute interrupted by what appears to have been either a terrorist attack or an attempted terrorist a terror attack so a lot of people nervous a lot of people still quite shaken up but it looks like men hatten and midtown is going to resume its normal daily schedule here on monday morning in manhattan.
11:07 am
thank you very much that's kind of the update from new york way looks like life is getting much normal kate of thank you. much indeed we're also now joined by terror expert doug weeks who is also going to give us his view on what's happening we can see doug over there doug thank you very much indeed for joining us well we've got the on the other very fine video we've had all the reports i mean what's your understanding of what's happened today. well i think me there is still water. come out and hopefully that will be made public within the hours and they can come in the authorities who are doing the investigation but by all accounts. at least men reporting so far and what appears to have happened when another. attack her who apparently carrying out this attack in the name of us. in the report sort of so far fortunately for
11:08 am
those that are involved unfortunately there were injuries but fortunately for those that were involved sounds like he failed to detonate properly and so in many ways that is a good thing although. there were a few other individuals who are unfortunately injured in. it sounds to me any rate that this is yet another string of attacks are happening with increased frequency in the u.s. and certainly from what we've seen in europe has been fairly constant stream. smaller attacks that occurred throughout europe and certainly with the u.k. by individuals who are perhaps not directly. reckon by
11:09 am
us but certainly have an affiliation came down in terms of sympathy and. understanding their own hand and carry out an attack and with the break up. in iraq and syria it's not surprising i think. networks. snacking on a core of security. think that needs are going to probably continue to happen for some time in the future. this is jacqueline here in the studio as well i wanted to ask you the mayor has said that this is a terrorist attack an attempted terrorist attack and the police commissioner said terror related of course nobody has said officially that there is connection to islamic state or anything but they did say that the suspect was making statements that they were going to talk about them yet why do you think they're not willing to talk about them yet and what do you think those statements may have been centered around. well i think there's
11:10 am
a couple of things first of all at least one in the room for some i saw from new york times suggesting from a high ranking source and it was i asked inspiron what. we're going to want to be cautious about what they put out and when for action of several reasons the first is they're still trying to groom we get the facts. in. confidence when they do come out publicly and saying what is going on or what has transpired and what the motivations behind mr mitchell the other part comes from investing in torino you know. this is still very much a why investigation although all facts at the moment appearing to me centering on the on the. one individual that was involved. that mean
11:11 am
other means other suspects and trains of investigation are not going to be followed up so. they're naturally going to want to keep a lot of the information fairly close to their investments point until may have a greater degree of confidence in number one what it was that inspired the syntax and number team whether or not he had any accomplices its case again i mean let's look at the reports the device itself i mean we we've heard that it could have been a pipe bomb in terms of what injuries this could do what we've seen during the injuries that have come through best saying it's a botched attack what was the potential for a pipe bomb what could have happened. well the man on the actual size of the new wires first of all five moms were actually quite easy to mill and they are very simplistic in nature and if they are constructed in the right way to actually do. tremendous amount of damage when some ice
11:12 am
explodes it's not uncommon for instance like this there are bits and pieces of shrapnel and within a minute and then the container itself when it. properly. some part and then that shrapnel can go out in any number of corrections and be quite devastating so actually this one's very serious to me. fortunately appearing to. me. now the new york police have identified the suspect as twenty seven year old and. they say he had eight low tech explosive attached to his body and he was injured when it went off now this was improvised low tack what do you think that says about the attack about the suspect himself the planning that went behind it.
11:13 am
well i think probably a number of things that you can probably remain through in the winds one. that this individual. was not networked into a much bigger i asked network or on their terror network the unknowing and capability and the technology to build more viable and why it's. something that the individual perhaps can harm himself to construct with women can knowledge. and the end result was that. properly i don't know i suppose everybody can be thankful doug week's terror expert thank you very much indeed thank you. well just a month ago the city's deadliest attack since nine eleven took place.
11:14 am
just as they have been planning this for a number of weeks you did this in the name of isis. army one president putin has ordered the start of the withdrawal of russian forces from syria that's just five days after he announced the complete defeat obviously state in syria artie's daniel hawkins join me in the studio with more details also in many will view it that way kate especially from a military point of view this of course was a surprise visit as you mentioned earlier today claiming air base in latakia is part of putin's middle eastern visit he is off to egypt next to visit the president
11:15 am
there abdel fattah el-sisi he'll discuss the issue with alongside the news about his negotiations with. the turkish president as well he has made it clear though that while the bulk of the troops is withdrawing as early as today in fact the first pilots will be flying back to russia we understand. the military forces will be quick to return if the terrorists including his own words rear their heads once again let's take a listen to his statement. about it on there to the defense minister and the head of the general staff of the start of the withdrawal of the russian forces to their permanent base and if the terrorists dare to raise their heads again we will strike back with the strength they've never seen before. now of course the base in tartus cellar taqiyya will remain although the bulk of the bulk of troops is going home over the last two years the russian troops have played a very important role in backing the syrian army in regaining territory ever again around ninety percent of the country russian troops were closely involved in liberation of aleppo of palmira twice in fact of duties all on the euphrates river
11:16 am
bank as well. russia's latest declaration that syria has been liberated from i so the spontaneity rift between key foreign forces fighting terrorists in the country it didn't sit well with the u.s. led coalition which now claims that it's the only force that they call has made meaningful progress against islamic state parties and here and explains. everyone was gearing up to celebrate isos grip on syria was loosening the u.s. coalition forces had the champagne on ice we are defeating isis we're really winning we know how to win races in terms of as a physical caliphate will be gone by the end of the year but when the black flag was finally lowered some felt the limelight was stolen and used. russia's defense minister reported that the military operation on the east and west banks of the euphrates river is now completed with the full defeat of the terrorists of course
11:17 am
there could still be some pockets of resistance but the general combat actions at this stage and on this territory are over maybe due to how their russian claim the moment of glory one of the. general matters for doing such a great job with respect i was this is not the hell out of. myself made it possible with what i'd let you do i think. so instead of celebrating some chose perhaps predictably to squabble over the far north i find it surprising that russia takes all the credit for defeating eisel in reality eisel occupied a large part of syria and iraq and it was the coalition that shrank the territory occupied by the jihadists let's step back and look at how i still lost ground in the south the syrian army backed by russian air power repainted them up from black to damascus red while coalition forces with the help of the kurds did much of the
11:18 am
heavy lifting by liberating swathes of northern syria but heaven forbid we should even consider this a team effort. with the support of the russian air force the syrian army liberated hundreds of cities from territories and returned almost all the country's territory to the government controlled. the us led coalition. the russian federation or syrian regime is the only thing that has made meaningful progress against isis three years the various sides have shared a common goal driving iso out of syria but now that's been achieved for sun the main thing now is taking all the credit it is still absolutely critical to the us role in the world to maintain this this narrative that it is response only responsible for. you know the good things that happen in the world while its enemies are responsible for all the bad things and and unfortunately it is russia
11:19 am
has not just a competitor really as an enemy this point. while also a writer abdel bari atwan thinks america should now join russia in withdrawing its forces from syria but actually it is a day of celebrations for russia and its allies in the middle east i believe it is actually a huge achievement and president bush is not only visiting syria he is going to pay another visit to egypt after that he will conclude that i have to visit. to meet the president. of turkey to say that we have to look to the stage altar there are actually the coming days after the victory against isis i mean to make a permanent peace in syria a permanent peace on the middle east us troops in syria was illegal and now
11:20 am
a bill will be more illegal i think this is a clear cut message to the american administration that they should actually pull our troops from syria not only from syria but also from iraq so there is no need for them to be there unless they're american actually would like to muddy the water in the middle east. well then at the latest crisis a bit curious and let it be a putin has started his a pre-arranged trip across the middle east more on that after the break. john ulzheimer is making history again this time in the middle east russia's ban from the two thousand and eighteen winter olympics is this politics on steroids and do neo-cons i mean how saakashvili have no shame.
11:21 am
at the plate for many clubs over the years so i know the guy even so i got. the ball isn't only about what happens on the pitch for the final school it's about the passion from the fans it's the age of the super money killian erroneous and spending to get to the twenty million. it's an experience like nothing else on here because i want to show what i think what i know about the beautiful guy my great so we'll all chance for. peace. welcome back russian president vladimir putin is on
11:22 am
a trip across the middle east his latest cairo way he met his egyptian counterpart . as well. like one of lattimer putin suddenly showed up in syria a little earlier his cairo trip was planned in advance but what kind of timing this is to squeeze in talks with both the president of egypt and turkey in cairo and ankara and here we're talking about a timeframe of just several hours while donald trump's jerusalem move really continues to send shock waves across the entire middle east and as our c.c. and vladimir putin were addressing the journalists here at the presidential palace in cairo we heard more condemnation of that move as a see the uk we were discussing the palestinian issue and especially the situation after the usa decided to recognize jerusalem as the israeli capital and to move the u.s. embassy from tel aviv to there this reckless and provocative decision will have consequences
11:23 am
that will influence the resolution of the conflict and the stability of the situation egypt and russia support israel and palestine resuming talks over all disputed issues they have including the status of jerusalem a solid agreement that takes into account the interests of both sides should be reached we consider any action that anticipates the outcome for peace talks between israel and palestine counterproductive again this was being said in cairo the egyptian capital where it looks like the arab league is ready to convene and come up with a united official response which will basically mean that it's a response from the entire region but even before this week a lot has been said in front of the microphones and industry they cannot opposed people's feelings and beliefs this is a new type of adventurism and global arrogance of the u.s. . the kingdom of jordan refuses the recognition by the united states so jerusalem
11:24 am
is the capital of israel ought to make the decision by the united states in its context gives legitimacy. recognition for occupation of the allowance of the de facto status using fools should i indeed right now it is fair to say that not all the arab world would have a broader islamic community is ready to stand up for the palestinians so far the president of turkey tiber daughter turned out to be the most outspoken and here's what that led to the east. room is a terrorist state. i'm not used to receiving. lectures. about morality from a leader who bombs kurdish villagers in his native to kill who dreams dreams. hopes you will go wrong to international sanctions and to those killers but back to vladimir putin's trip as i've said he's got one more destination on monday
11:25 am
and that is going to be ankara where he will have face to face talks with top aired on after that we know that they are going to produce a joint statement as well so we watch it out for that. well meanwhile israeli prime minister binyamin netanyahu is continuing his first trip to europe after america's recognition of jerusalem as israel's capital and he's now in brussels where he was met by a protest against trump's decision and earlier during the first leg of his trip pro palestinian rally took place in paris just before his arrival. money israeli prime minister has already met the french president on the e.u. foreign policy chief while top european politicians have been making it clear they don't welcome trump's decision. i expressed to prime minister netanyahu my disappointment of the u.s. president's declaration and explained that front sees it is contrary to international law and is dangerous to peace i think the sooner the problem students come to grips with this reality the sooner we will move towards peace the only
11:26 am
realistic solution to the conflicts between israel and palestine is based on two states which are those eleven as the cup without both the state of israel and the state of palestine along the sixty seven line i believe that all. or most of the group in countries will move their embassies to jerusalem recognize truth when this is rose a couple well britain's prime minister condemned trumps decision as unhelpful and disagrees with the move while germany's foreign minister expressed fears it could worsen the israeli palestinian conflict. now police brutality in the us is making headlines again off the body count footage was really showing an officer fatally shooting an unarmed man the incident took place last year in arizona the warning you may find the following video disturbing.
11:27 am
well police were called to a hotel after it was reported a man had been seeing pointing a gun out of his window the weapon was actually an air rifle the victim twenty six year old daniel shaver had been drinking with friends in his room and he was showing them his air rifle which a witness thought may have been a lethal weapon while monk goddess who is representing the victim's family said it's the most horrific shooting he's ever seen but a jury acquitted the officer of murder and manslaughter charges last thursday human rights activist randy short believes the officers claims that he felt threatened don't hold up first and foremost that officer was with the group of other people
11:28 am
with guns there was no way that that man even if he had a weapon was going to be able to overcome that many people with body armor with high powered automatic weaponry it is a friend a c a a a sick joke that the officer claimed to fear for his life it was excessive force it was an execution i believe that many officers are psychologically unstable they're dangerous people and essentially they have a license to kill or for more news on all of asteroids go to. my colleague neil hall they will have the latest headlines at the top of the hour for me.
11:29 am
