1:00 pm
so the only show i go out is that really packs a punch is to say we are apparently better than the world. palestinian protesters clashed with police in a nonstop wave of anger over jerusalem meanwhile muslim nations are rejecting the u.s. role in the mideast peace process. in a vote which could affect the way you use the internet u.s. lawmakers are prepared to have their say on net neutrality protest against the possible changes to internet regulation. you're joining us from this hour welcome to moscow and to our international i mean only a welcome to the program we begin with the russian president and you will q.
1:01 pm
and a from earlier in the day the close to four hours of nonstop diverse questions from the press our correspondent was there for us. but the things that are particularly stupid out for me this time is that the share of questions that you might want to call challenging for white america about corruption about the silencing of political opponents in russia was perhaps a bit larger this time then previously he was indeed grilled about the lack of competition in russian politics and one question came from perhaps his direct opponent a person who wants to become a presidential candidate in russia in twenty train a subject that's a major issue for those who want to represent that non-system opposition they have to offer not a short lived and shrill agenda but a real one why is it so difficult to be nothing maybe the government is frightened
1:02 pm
of fact compete issued by the to the opposition should present a program of positive action that's clear to the public do you want someone with the intentions of a coup to task we've seen this already if you want to list the return i'm sure that the overwhelming majority of citizens don't want to let it happen. i mentioned corruption previously and in fact that is one of the things the current russian system of the government is often blamed for and yes a few times corruption was brought up vladimir putin said that he's not satisfied with what's gone on he was asked specifically about corruption in law enforcement agencies the russian president says that people are being charged and there are investigations some people are being put in prison including government officials but he complained that new people come and things don't change but here's what he suggested in this particular sphere but if you notice the word means two in the
1:03 pm
judicial it's not a secret but it's a tough question and i can't say that i'm satisfied with how this work is being done one solution i can think of is like we have in the army we have rotation there someone service for three or five years in one place then they're transferred somewhere else so maybe it makes sense to organize something like that in law enforcement to speaking of u.s. related questions there was one about the ways to sort out the north korean crisis and vladimir putin said a few very important things about that take a listen do you think that cooperation on north korea could warm up u.s. russia relations. tediously would it be that you were very interesting people have you noticed that your congressman senators who wear nice suits and shirts who seem to be intelligent people they lump us together with north korea and iran but at the same time they push their president to ask us to resolve the iran nuclear deal and
1:04 pm
the north korean crisis what is wrong with these people. then the russian president went back to russia stance which has remained the same for quite a while that is calling on all sides to were framed from hostile actions i think this indeed sums up the highlights of the events for everything else you can go to our website and you tube channel other questions and answers by vladimir putin are available there. of course president putin give answers to some of the major issues on the vents of twenty seventeen including allegations of collusion with donald trump the bombing of team russia from the winter olympic games we discussed his answers with a number of analysts. how would you explain to americans the sheer number of contacts between the trump camp and your government. it was all made up by the people in opposition to trump in
1:05 pm
order to illegitimacy to his work i can honestly say i find it strange it was made to almost appear like they had no knowledge this would damage the country's domestic politics and deplete the ability of the elected head of state means that they do not respect the voters who cast their ballots in trump's favor trump's victory is entirely playing a ball through that a number of well known social and political trends and had nothing to do with russia so yes there was a deliberate kind of attempt to blame russia rather than to engage in any kind of internal reflection or discussion about what actually happened in the election and why it was that clinton didn't win and it's still going on.
1:06 pm
my colleagues and i have said that it's obvious that the scandal was inflated to fit russia's domestic political calendar and no matter what anyone says just know that's the case but at the same time we should blame ourselves we gave a reason for these accusations there have indeed been cases of doping now there have been such cases in other countries but they're not surrounded by this politicized uproar so there's no doubt that there is a political motivation behind it it does seem that russia has been singled out that you know there's a lot of doping going on across and then pick sport crosspost in general but it does seem that you know this word is state sponsored her. been used in relation to russia to justify a ban on the whole team and on the russian flag and as today president putin said you know we bat a share of the guilt. and i think that's quite interesting because it creates
1:07 pm
a different impression it's much less defensive and it's in a way it's. it creates a better impression i think than saying no no no we're totally without any blame. so another headline stories this hour at least seventeen palestinians have been injured in another round of clashes in the west bank israeli police used tear gas against crowds throwing stones there overnight on whedon's the israeli forces say they also intercepted two rockets fired from gaza this week marks the thirtieth anniversary of the hamas organization and it's seen thousands of people in gaza which amass controls celebrate israel closed its checkpoints in the region for an indefinite period of time since last week when donald trump recognized jerusalem as the capital of israel violence between israeli authorities palestinian protesters has been happening daily.
1:08 pm
1:09 pm
well the leaders of muslim nations are calling on the international community to recognize east jerusalem as the palestinian capital the organization of islamic cooperation made in response to the u.s. president's heavily criticized move to recognize the ancient city as israel's capital don't trump decision on jerusalem has seen authorities council christmas markets overseas in these released city of nasiriya it is considered to be the childhood home of jesus christ on a vital importance to christians local media have been quoted saying that the city's mayor who sees america as the physician has taken away the joy of the celebration on donald trump's ruling on tourism affected his reputation globally as well as nicky aaron has been looking into. how much time do you think donald trump spent considering his move to recognize jerusalem as the capital of israel a decision which doesn't directly affect anyone apart from the u.s.
1:10 pm
and its ally but as tremors across the world in ways that washington perhaps didn't see coming the u.s. loses its starring role in the middle east peace process in one swoop the president wait farewell to any hope that the united states can broker a diplomatic solution in the holy land from now on america is unwarranted in the peace process. from now on american mediation between israel and palestine is out of the question this process is over. this the united states has chosen to lose its competency. qualifies itself from play in a peaceful process the turkish president takes center stage in the regional resistance to both the us and israel an extraordinary all muslim nation summit is hosted in istanbul by president he wasted no time in calling trump's decision no and avoid
1:11 pm
branding israel a state of terror. are you back in this country this israel. patient terrorism is that what you are defending even more violence and a possible third intifada from nine hundred eighty seven to ninety one and two thousand to two thousand and five the region saw two deadly palestinian uprisings against the israeli occupation known as the into father's now we could be on the verge of a third slaughter in the name of allah. has called on the palestinian people to face the israeli occupation and adopt the blessid into fodder against that and the hateful and racist recognition of jerusalem and to american rivers. suzy's decision the palestinian people were involved in a continuous process and into fodder against the israeli occupation and we are calling for it to be asking late in the west bank oki pie jerusalem and the gaza
1:12 pm
strip against the occupation was on a little over a week since trump announced his decision and the time it has turned to a tsunami of potential natural disaster no one was ready for i do think we will see more of what we've been seeing so far and whether we're with the rock throwing and demonstrations and unfortunately something people being killed whether this results in a in a another what they call third intifada i don't think we have any way of knowing if there's anything that may happen it's it's somewhat counter intuitive i think it will be taken by most of the regional countries and also by the europeans as indication that they can't trust the united states they don't trust american leadership and it away in the in the guise of reasserting american leadership i think mr trump has actually made us more irrelevant to developments in the region and in some ways has lessened american influence in the region. in
1:13 pm
a move to garner international pressure on iran the u.s. ambassador to the u.n. has a verted attention from tehran's nuclear deal to its billing missile program and nikki haley produced pieces of a short range weapon during a presentation claiming that it was made in iran and fired outside the arabia by sea rebels in yemen. we have said multiple times that this is not just about the nuclear program this is about everything else they're doing because iran believes that they have been given a pass this evidence demonstrates a pattern of behavior in which iran so there's conflict and extremism in direct violation of u.n. security council resolutions this is from the last two attacks that we saw coming from yemen and so this is very recent this is not all these just happen and so that is the reason why we have the concern that the nuclear deal is not something that
1:14 pm
we're focused on now is focusing on the threat that iran is posing as we know it the u.s. along with saudi arabia accuse the role of supplying weapons to yemen's hoochie rebels however the u.n. which has studied missile debris from the region could not confirm the originated from iran tehran has repeatedly denied arming the cities saying it would be irresponsible and destructive nikki haley however continues to claim that iran has violated un resolutions if guilty it would be in violation of a u.n. arms embargo in yemen and selling weapons to iran argues though that this is not part of the brokered nuclear deal that donald trump is threatening to pull it from kill its delve a little bit further into this whole story i'm happy to say that we can cross live to political aside the stuff a cost chesham be very welcome to the program nikki haley also said that she is
1:15 pm
building a coalition against iran in terms of support how is that going to work because the question is who would be in that coalition considering the tear about trump's move to discern defy the nuclear deal was met with criticism wasn't by america's allies traditional made in europe. hello and thanks for having me well as a matter of fact this is not the first time that they are doing the same scenario always regard to iran's missile nuclear industry that's the first component of iran's power among the three and the three include iran's nuclear power and this reason as well as iran's missile power and iran's regional clout the first time they tried this an area was when. the israelis produced laptop documents and transferred it to the german intelligence agencies through the old the armed opposition of iran the terrorist organization and the according to american
1:16 pm
investigative journalism journalist. porter the chief of the intelligence community in berlin rejected the documents as soon as he saw it and said that it was a forgery so after a year they presented it to the u.s. officials and the u.s. officials agreed with that and verified that they were genuine why in order to demonize iran in order to promote iran a full be a throughout the world and to rally international support for sanctions it worked then but now it doesn't work because iran has been complying with the nuclear deal and the u.s. has been defined it's on the takings on the you know if you're going to russia china and many u.n. officials all now they are trying the program is just. point isn't it because how dangerous is it to actually sabotage the nuclear deal while others were saying
1:17 pm
openly appearing to compile evidence to discredit iran. well the point is that they are pressuring the world community europe russia china any iran through their threats to discard the deal in order to force tehran and other parties to the nuclear deal to agree to the us interpretation of the deal this is very important because according to the a.j.c. p.o. a no one is entitled to interpret the deal according to its own ways and according to its desires the commission of the way should vote which interpretation is right and now the united states is taking the deal hostage in order to. do its interpretation of the deal and this is a threat to the global security regional peace and stability and it's you know has of this not just to iran but just to the entire world on the timing of this what's your thoughts on why is the u.s.
1:18 pm
trying to put more pressure on iran at this point. well there are number of reasons for that you know right now they are trying to demonize iran because just a month later the u.s. should decide what it wants to do with the deal in future are they going to certify the nuclear deal with iran are they going to keep the sanctions you know suspended or not they want to reimpose the sanctions and this month they are trying to increase pressures on iran and other parties to the deal in order to force you know . the parties to the. nuclear deal to comply with the u.s. demands the united states wants to wear off all the three components of iran's power through one deal that. they have signed i mean the way on the which iran has fully complied with its undertakings but the u.s. is still defying to you know remove the sanctions in practice and it's no secret
1:19 pm
everyone knows that so and that's in this one month they are increasing pressures and it has already worked on iran not with regard to iran but with regard to europe where mrs macgill really last night said that they agree with some of the interpretations of the united states so they want to confine iran's power a regional power and power along with its nuclear power under one single deal why it's not been touched. a political analyst side stuff and always good to have your thoughts on the big story today thank you the u.k. high court has ruled british troops breached geneva conventions in iraq we look into that after this.
1:20 pm
join me every thursday on the alec simon shore and i'll be speaking to guest of the world of politics sports business i'm showbusiness i'll see you then. that's the problem in this new reality is there will be no resting in peace there is no death anymore people will pay to make sure that their death is final that their death is complete that all their d.n.a. is scott.
1:21 pm
hello again the u.k. high court has found that british troops were in breach of human rights conventions abusing civilians during the iraq war with more on the outer ring. specifically we have seen four iraqi citizens being awarded damages in cases against the actions of the ministry of defense during the iraq war in the way these people were detained and now the court has decided that these four iraqi citizens are going to be awarded eighty four thousand pounds with thirty thousand going to just one of those men and the reason for this is the judge has ruled that the actions of british troops in the way they were detaining these people were in violation of geneva conventions as well as the human rights act citing cruel and
1:22 pm
inhumane treatment as well as unlawful detention the judge has said that these assaults quote involved the gratuitous infliction of pain and humiliation for the amusement of those who perpetrated them and quote we have to say that this comes just ten days after the international criminal court found quote reasonable basis to understand that british troops might have been involved in war crimes when it comes to detaining iraqi citizens. the reason this this ruling is important today is because it's seen as a kind of test cases to see how similar claims could be handled in the future moving forward and there are over six hundred claims such as these currently ongoing and we have to keep in mind that also over three hundred claims were
1:23 pm
settled out of court by the ministry of defense who had paid out as much as twenty two million pounds and we do know that when it comes to this latest ruling the ministry of defense have said that they're studying this judgment. it will bring you some breaking news no u.s. lawmakers have just voted to scrap so-called net neutrality which could significantly alter the web experience for millions of people now it's going to allow internet providers to. extra to prioritize their traffic effectively creating a slow lane for smaller websites. ok this is how it actually works people access of course the web through their internet service providers at the moment or before this ruling actually went through companies have to treat all online traffic equally but the us federal communications commission say that's preventing websites from investing trillions of dollars in their services if the net neutrality rules
1:24 pm
are scrapped which we now know they are i asked please no have to be free to charge a premium essentially whatever they want to prioritise certain apps and services while hundreds of people have been gathering outside the f.c.c. headquarters in washington d.c. to protest today's vote which could spell the end for equal rights on the line which had now looks as if it has gone let's cross live to the u.s. capitol or some your account is near the federal communication commission building . we actually saw a little bit earlier a lot of banners you know things proclaiming the death of open internet what's the feeling there about this a lot of frustration. oh well i'm sure they're outraged after hearing this latest decision to repeal net neutrality but just before voting the room the room was mysteriously cleared out due to a security threat after
1:25 pm
a comprehensive search of the meeting reconvened and like you said they voted against repeal i mean they voted in favor of repealing neutrality but protests against repealing that net neutrality have been raging on all week but there should be no hope lost and on their side as they are actually not without allies a thirty nine senators signed a letter to the f.c.c. expressing their discontent keith ellison and maxine waters both members of the house of representatives spoke in their favor this morning at their rally but i spoke to protesters yesterday so let's see what they had to say ok five k. you see what do i know you should be ok yes you see we don't. really that's the big problem here it's these giant ice p.c. to think that they have they should have all the advantage and all the decisions to make about what should be content on the internet and it should be a public utility and especially in the twenty first century when you know a lot of communication skills that need to be improved and taught in schools the
1:26 pm
internet is essential for from your job having a portfolio doing anything you can to get information. ok in case you see we want to be very easy to do part of democracy to have people communication people access to communication not just let the privileged. the super rich have every advantage in a so-called democracy this is going to show that a lot of small business is a small website and prevents. heard and read me from hearing the small voice. but it's unclear what their next move will be and how this latest decision will affect online trafficking in general. from washington d.c. with the update thank you for that. ok that is all the news for no you're with our two international live from.
