1:30 pm
i not to get i pop in the angry whenever i watch the news understandable jones monty i'm not sure if it's the news of the the way it's presented which is making you angry and quiet here says become an m.p. claim as many freebies holidays time off second plus a fantastic wage me even do a reality t.v. show appearance for a few extra bob when i'm supposed to be working sorted inquired i would be too hard to members of parliament most of them and i emphasize most of them are doing their best and will in seattle says trump resigning and most of the white house going to jail yeah i think quite a few people are wishing for the states is probably just wishful thinking and finally sunny day here from pakistan try to apply good quotations of life and humanity myself as excellent science like a bit of eastern philosophy for the new year. sure
1:31 pm
now as we know the creative industries are very strong in scotland at the moment when speaking to a known scottish artist general bottoms let's take a loop i'm privileged to be here with a fantastic scottish artist jetted barnes is going to talk us through some of the amazing paintings welcome to the alexandra general can i tell you first of all to this amazing painting you've done particularly the influence by the saltire paintings and also let us know who this lovely young lady well the girl is my granddaughter sophie opin children because there's less baggage when you pin a child an adult brings with the life experience so the child is a much more to listen to presentation the soldiers have been a more work for many many years and fight the saltire is my connection with alex that all to me was first minister he had one of my paintings the roman iron on the wall behind his desk i painted the sole tears initially because i'm scottish i was drawn to the flag of love the color of the shapes why wouldn't you have in the
1:32 pm
painting are you sickly that's stunning and let's move on to this very interesting piece if you can just talk us through your thoughts behind this and what was it was the story you're telling this is a metaphor if you like for contemporary lay for we have the young man on a high wire surrounded by money which is a metaphor for opportunity if you're late and i think the idea is relatively simple it's all there if you're just too far over because i'm sure all of us could probably relate in some way in our own waves to be in those younger and to that experience fantastic now of course are very well known for your portraits you have something about can i tell you particularly in finally to one of the amazing michael mcdonald tell us about this shared margot the family approached me after margot had passed away and i asked if i would make a portrait it was a tough one because to make a portrait i have to spend time with the individual but it wasn't possible in this case so i had to. today again and see if i could find images which would be like the tape of images a bit of a photograph that it's he can myself
1:33 pm
a phone two completely different sets of images so i ended up and never want to make things easy for myself i ended up to one of which hangs in the scottish parliament at the moment and this one which actually i think as a pure portrait this is possibly the stronger of the two some much more steel piece . it's almost choirs i religious the the hands clasped the late coming from above and you can see that although i didn't go to good authority she was no pushover i think that's fairly obvious from this painting absolutely stunning now you're going to join us down stairs on the sofa with the best of i guess this special edition of the alexander stille to look forward to catching up with you later on. so tell us joe budden says there's been scotland's leading portrait painter for quite a while since most of people did of the billion or body in scotland over the last generation did you have a favorite of the ones you saw i think it's got
1:34 pm
a few left to go but we saw an amazing portion of michael mcdonald and he's painted a couple of miles even more interesting than the portraits of the paintings he has to pick the saltire and also his lovely granddaughter sophie which really i think the starter instance is a lot of what he does is just going for a longer period so when. he was painting just about every picture looked great but . what was fascinating about stop was national flag i think as an artist as many creative have had a real interest in the politics of the country too and i think it exists all tire in trait i think it depicts a lot about scotland and not about the conversation in scotland it continues to twenty fourteen referendum that features so highly and family has joe painted you because he has painted me not yet but when we get him once a question of the other day someone asked me some do that to the interest. of a short thank you thank you. you are spilling blue to shore so
1:35 pm
far but i think this time and welcome our guests to listen to the. start of radio day as part. church dreaded. and scottish foremost. is here and there you are. well listen happy. all three of you so that you all have a good christmas fantastic fantastic for your favorite gift generate wise to my gift this year the best gift was we had a huge family christmas we had twenty for dinner. my grandchildren all the in-laws it was just fantastic who did the cooking my darling wife the sisters. in a team effort but she's the boss in the kitchen and you have to ask you to do the christmas jumper fountain jamie this year obviously. a big part of christmas if they both get to wear dreadful christmas jumpers hopefully with something that
1:36 pm
lights up with bells on them and then they take a christmas picture to twitter to share their enjoyment of this christmas special because many people are also moving forward to that that's what about you i go driving lessons for christmas that you're tested you feel no i think people have seen me drive and think you need lessons i know have been positive and then know they've changed the test as well as the more complicated. as the brakes a driving license or slow so you tons. more know where at the end of it from do not know and also obviously got the car window which is beautiful i don't know what more can i. ask seem the from basic instinct. but you wouldn't pull position you request you know absolutely you know what i would agree with alex because sometimes turn into donald trump for she loves it so much we did a great i'm going to make ellen great again it's a great show good i love her this is when i hug many people. how did you get did
1:37 pm
you get a present from that on they go to prison. and spend a lot of time building walls but we're building bridges today we. love your tennis kids serene and venus to show. great things but yeah fun. it's been great going to war yeah yeah yeah don't worry give it time oh yeah exactly. thinking so all things get to work and hopefully what you're doing how many we we're actually very early on new year's day so we're going over to spain for a wee while with the family again so when the reckon this year will be a real with so. fear nothing to write us and it's alex's birthday how you celebrating your birthday well i'm going to collect as many presents as possible i'm very hopeful and so the donald i'm with something great but i will believe we
1:38 pm
invite on the show of course. to stump up on the train is right. oh i saw of the business not mentioned your. oh. you've got clean to be the most successful coach of all trades i mean you know for titles and these were just your struggles but you yourself you have a professional therapist can you do stuff you don't. play yourself i was a player you know and scotland but those were the days where you know tennis were a very much a minority sport and there was no indoor course effed you played tennis in the summer and you played badminton in the winter so there's no professionalism there was no real infrastructure so there wasn't really that many people to play against so being the scottish number one was not such a difficult thing to do because not enough of people played the game so back in the days when you were the scottish number one the just think for a second that you would have a position where both your sons were world number one singles on the doubles i
1:39 pm
think when i was scottish number one i didn't have any sons. and they're probably looking ahead. i think yeah i mean i would never have imagined when when i started i was a volunteer coach at dunblane tennis club when my kids were in the case and i did it to get to get a taste and i traded tennis sessions for child care because we had no money to judge me. so you know that appearance of the kids that i worked with they had to look after the boys in the clubhouse while i piloted the coaching and i just kind of snowballed from there slowly but i never would have imagined we'd all end up doing what we're currently doing now in a month of sundays and you know for what it's going to sports perspective because you know you do a lot. the poor women in sport do you think women get enough highly enough media enough coverage in the press for some of the missing school just excesses we've had where i think nowhere near enough but i think what i believe in is that we shouldn't get caught up with how many column inches in the back pages because women
1:40 pm
will always appeal primarily to women so put it in front of. things that women will read like the women's pages of newspapers of women's magazines and that actually i do believe that investing in the performance of women sports individuals and teams if we can raise the level of the performance then becomes more watchable more sellable more marketable more media if that's the word which it probably isn't but if we just need to invest much more to bring the levels up to a stage where people want to watch it because it's because it's good because if you can see that was a lot of the teams this year you know in cricket rugby hockey more the the england teams but we need to do that in scotland and bring the levels up and then people will want to watch and talk about it so you will get lots to discuss i will be right but after birth.
1:41 pm
we are so deep in the corruption soul and i think that the reason of corruption is liberals our house from interpretation of liberalism his or her but of course one of the most important reasons we go raiding corruption and putin could not cure it because she thinks that liberalism used to cure up liberalism is the poison. it's the cradle of jazz. the america is still america we have. to close disc jazz feel. a city of climatic testify is alligators on the loose of poverty and crime are used by the least twill members of my friends close most. of street racing in the heat of the night
1:42 pm
this is new orleans. the best place in the world. to corral sold america if you add the national debt the unaccounted for them like cell security medicare medicaid the corporate debt and yet all that debt together i haven't seen the numbers lately but it's something in excess of five hundred thousand dollars per household and because the debt seller of wall street who packages debt sells debt makes money and profits and fees from that they feel like they need to make even greater profits they have a big fat cattle prod that they stick into everyone's. and they say negative
1:43 pm
interest rates are good for you go buy more go give us more of your money going to go by march i'm going to bar to give a. welcome back to this old mini edition of the alex salmond show. looking for the first here. that you have painted the two of us will. be painted who would you most like to paint a hard question. like. what's wrong with me. and if i join you in all i think we should really but we can never turn straight into question a couple of things really think i think we could do something a bit strained the question of kind of pain. i couldn't stand it when she. was going to. do it with
1:44 pm
a former member. of fame for tyrion our show's long from the hollywood great you know that was a fantastic picture i was a jared came out. and i was on this show as well he picked. and it is amazing i was i was twenty. when he finished i was absolutely blown away by how good it was amazing so days you could be in a shows long painted probably always. been painted before it was a police force. and i also done many pins of tiles and she wanted septum. framed them i put them for nothing but my huge after c. for here in c. . and only played tennis in the summer was only three days a year and she got to be the number one that's an amazing achievement i'm just proud to be on this coach not. market inflated by logic i think you make
1:45 pm
a great point t.j. went to st should we get days. right just to do anything you want. and how are things in the world of radio for he really was funny with doing the stuff with yourself and doing the donald trump stuff because i do the capital break show very much paul music and you used to get requests for beyond c and now you get can you do beyonce and donald trump because they failed the voice they want to song and the impression i think this could be and yes the donald trump album for twenty so this will go bad no more than you think yourself and go on to the video to donald trump forget yeah donald trump gets me a bed in a moment i want to headline. the. number of the. show and i want to make sure it is not anything he said i. did a fantastic interview with the show it was all for five minutes and the was there
1:46 pm
to seconds was broad enough i have to see alec told one of the stories but surely lost. some of. that if you ever come on again i'll make sure you tell us that it just where do you see the. red eye to eye with alex only that the paintings that you should be which are fantastic and the thought theme in all of them and of course you could have tricked an assault or train you know you know for the benefit of i think a lot of want to see my wife and rampant can i just say. that's why you were sucking. justice for days and days and also to this benefit tells that more about the influence of saltire than what you do as an artist you are constantly looking for in the world around you something which catches your eye something which gets the attention of the very for salt into the. years ago. and
1:47 pm
asked the question why the salt mines who were supposed to be wine or i'm scottish everywhere see the flyer give you better saw the literally. and i was as the king of amazed when i decided to make the first big painting with the sole title that norman had actually done really truth i had done it before so i haven't decided to do i decided to really go for it and the first printing of the psalter which is there is to my connection with with alex the roman the. folds almost eighty percent of the canvas these paintings the salt. in the build up to the painting folder eighty percent of my office is. at the mirror no harm i have to see the painting being that it was amazing every time. i'm bastard who ever came to see me he always actually demanded getting the picture in front of in front of your painting goes up from fantastic painting and i know you all do
1:48 pm
a lot of work for charity to be charities that are close to your heart days i know during the festival you've done a lot of work and a lot of that the money that we gave is a contribution for your efforts. yet if you were actually i was working for and still do as far as scotland's got a great charity base in central scotland helping kids with additional support needs and helping the families giving them rest by as well because it's not just about the kids although we do care for them it's about the families that are on our journey with them as well and helping those and then they've done so well of the shows that we did with alec as well and it feels like i'm doing something special within myself that being donald trump is helping other people which is a concept i'm all for. being done and i'm sure and giving a bit back thank you jenny good. being so great it's been so fantastic and because of it i haven't declared war on anybody i'm taking care of kim and then we're going to go from here. and then the other kim kardashian she's. next i'm going to show
1:49 pm
good but i mean. who would win oh i tell you i would be. because then andy has a long rally but i've got the biggest rallies in the world people come to see me from your jaw way to speak when i hear the phrase new balls that's when i start. i mean i'm just you know we're going to change it's a moving so if we are not running from south and i know you work hard to ensure this access to tennis for people from from backgrounds i'm not perhaps ordinate not to opportunities to get involved do you think we're making progress in that respect ensuring that young people to get a chance running a great game great sport where i think we're making a bit of progress four years ago i started a program called tennis on the road which was really just full of equipment and myself and another coach we work fifty days a year so yeah we've just completed our fortieth and we've basically take the van into areas where you wouldn't normally expect to play in tennis so mostly rural and
1:50 pm
disadvantaged areas and we build workforce is the local community so we show people teachers students parents club members coaches of other sportsperson sixty if you fools who might want to work with kids or work in sport we show them how to deliver starter tennis in whatever space they have available community whole school playgrounds school gyms snow everything has tennis courts no everywhere as tennis coach is and not everyone has money to pay for it so it's a bit like building a volunteer workforce in the more remote deprived areas of the country and the absolutely love it and yes it is having an affair a sense that since that's fantastic now we talk to jason corny about golf and our christmas show but how is your tennis alex. well i think i could probably be. very much if i could be. somewhere between the two because they had to be were you janet it was your sport favorite sport. football fun my kids celtic fun.
1:51 pm
in the good police and i don't know what their days. on anybody who were any relationship with people on american football as well there are a lot of people taking the knee i mean many people. assume the word worshipping me but. the thing is. the other three were just on i don't know what's happening i don't know it's got a bit i don't know who i am anymore there's a lot of i love golf so i'm going to say i love it like all great leaders were going to die in a bunker. for me personally for days football was always my game of tennis was a great sport for me but football but i wasn't a very good and i remember being in my school football team rite of passage in school and you get your game for the school football team and i was on the subs bench and we were getting five know and i actually said to bring in me on the dog. to come see the team play me that we dog wasn't called sparky and to get a bit of a morale boost they brought sparky on for last two minutes and he always called.
1:52 pm
the. sparkies bell and you. technically saw as the dog was the problem you know i never played for them again so that's my memories of football going alive i'm not really fun however let's move on to new speculations because we discussed earlier a number of people tweeted and said what their new year's resolutions would be so let's start with you day what are your plans for it what are your plans for twenty thousand into you haven't you said solution was on the cards for days i'm not sure about new year's resolutions always break them in terms of plans for twenty teen years want to do more comedy more on the road i might dress up more as donald trump . and i think tim's upon a solution. obviously the obvious one is lemon dr i just think you know just maybe a little bit more modest i think. that's a. nice
1:53 pm
one i'm going to learn to cook and my mother very kindly for christmas gave me a vote. think she was trying to tell me something that is about ten years later i was and it wasn't i'm very sad about you. learning spanish. but more concrete so. to do something about it my wife and i think we're going to rule for the responders class which should be an absolute nightmare of a husband and wife. arguments and all that stuff but so that's the plan we're going to work quite hard at that this year well that sounds great janet and good luck to you all. i really create hope when the celebration the strains and family and we've got we praise you for all of you alex take one impossible long jet or you have to supply the whiskey yourself with us to the quick. this is being taken. but you know you're not all properly equipped for the bells was west the home happy new year happy. so for all of us here for days from two different genders from alex
1:54 pm
and myself alex we hope you enjoyed our christmas special and our hope and a second i think we've got time for one more guest because after all this is still the season to be jolly. fellow. who's going to be a hell of. the donald's unimpeached puton or running again until he's a me still having another woman. and the new year sales are not what they were. at times like this we seek refuge in the good book or in greg's the big and for no good shots available. over our sources are all special we can reflect on all the reasons to be cheerful i'm a sales sell
1:55 pm
a bit with gusto old deal or celtic on the sixth of january the solo's me to buy presents at a fraction of the cost and to hold my party for professionals at excellent value with leftover tuckey and trimmings unfortunately the lady of the months had forgotten secure the wife i connection and then lechi bill payment had bones sed cutting off the cooker in the middle of heating the fish fingers so. many were cold and a few were frozen. in any case the holding of this pig an event has not proved universally popular with my flock or indeed the disciplinary committee of the general assembly of the church of scotland. however i
1:56 pm
see my overall as bringing cheer to the masses just late the scotland felt more team of the chancellors budget. i've been asked to give evidence to our own scottish parliament schematically investigating the minimum placing of alcohol. i will be supporting this initiative with getting a dust storm and tremendous enthusiasm it does make the place of the good stuff but there were to reach people. for my own lately form fair mentation will clean up at the church some are fed. as we steer into a glass darkly we can only there and feel the coming of vents what a gift it would be to be able to see the future it would make the lottery or dawdle and the football pools

youse knows to. east. into. the so the four colors so. in some american cities the police. going to read each mission to people who walk on the street to be united states who are at risk from the very people who are supposed to protect that poor people are no more afraid of police. you can see something happening in this is like i don't want to call the cops. rather than call the cops in those young men lose their lives chasing the with their fingers on the trigger you never know better safe than sorry i don't know that someone else is going to pull a gun so yeah unfortunately around around here we end up killing our guns a lot. from so much because it's true.
