the launch of a state of the art space next rocket is carrying a classified u.s. government stops aligned leads to speculation about whether it made it into space with none of the usual information many. north and south korea hold high level talks for the first time in two years raising hopes of a possible diplomatic breakthrough. times there are calls to boycott clothing jives a chimera after one of its ads featuring a black child is accused of being racist please put the issue of the debates. in the climb up of racial tension you know it's going to have connotations i don't think that call attention for the vast majority of people the vast majority of
11:01 am
people think this is a perfectly innocent campaign involving children of all races. hello and welcome you're watching r.t. international with me nikki aaron good to have you with us this out. a space mission already shrouded in secrecy has now grown even more mysterious mouse amid rumors about the fate of a top secret u.s. government sucks allies there usable space x. rocket which launched it has safely returned to earth but questions are being asked over what happens to the payload. the details of the cryptic. well the intriguing or mysterious thing about this is that ahead of the launch and during it and the media there were so many stories about. the top secret spy satellite which
11:02 am
belongs to the u.s. government being launched by mosques basics company it was called zoom but now almost two days after the launch everyone is pretty much in the dark about its fate sunday night's launch was lifestream to body space six but only until a certain stage. we have had successful lift off of falcon nine. though then the satellites deployment into orbit wasn't shown or reported on at all now if the mission is so secrecy it isn't any fad at some stages all of the live stream what they sense it while on the one hand it is true and we know that the usual practice for this kind
11:03 am
of limited access to the stream is like that for missions of that secretive nature but then neither space x. nor the manufacture of the satellite confirmed that the launch was successful and this led to the first doubts appearing other any other reasons to think that something posted the math going wrong then two respected news organizations in the u.s. wall street journal and bloomberg reported that zuma may have fallen back to earth or burned in the planet's atmosphere and when they get that classified information from anonymous sources within the u.s. government and also the industry what they did is they were questioned comment from the pentagon from the satellites manufacturer and of course from u.n. musk's company as well and this is what they've got we have nothing to add to the satellite cadillac at this time we cannot comment on classified missions we do not comment on. of this nature but as of right now reviews of the data indicate full
11:04 am
can nine performed normally so where did these comments or rather no comment replies leave us so let's put all the doubts aside and assume that the satellite delivery mission was a success does that mean that there is so much secrecy behind the payload that no one is entitled to know even about whether it reached orbit or not why was there no object in the us catalog and what kind of spying is it out there for the questions are going to be there to stay on the other hand if it's confirmed that the mission was a sailor it's not going to be a refutation disaster for space six but we know that elon musk's next step was going to be to start sending humans into space and in this case it could prove to be an image problem and we will see whether that's going to affect elon musk's
11:05 am
plans to do more space business with the u.s. government space x. has again commented on the launch saying the falcon nine rocket did everything as expected however it has statements the company's president refused to give further comment on the fate of the satellite being carried citing its classified nature. well let's bring in our guest now let's talk to mr ted there is this is our restasis columnist for the observer news site good to have you with us mr is ari perhaps you can help clear up this mystery for resident tell us what in your opinion could have happened to this satellite. well this is going to be a difficult one to answer there is a lot of mystery stronger on this mission in the fact of the matter is that there is no true confirmed statement about what has happened so anything that is said at this point or has been set up to this point of what happened to this payload is pure conjecture and assumption so it would be difficult for me to tell you what has happened to it but. what is known is that there's very little information about it
11:06 am
and that's the most troubling part usually we have some information or confirmation that the payload or the satellite and another important thing to note here is this is being put on as a spy satellite this is also unconfirmed information we don't know if you use a spy satellite a weapon or payload of over undisclosed information so really it's tough to give any finite information at this point because there is none i think is unusual that there's been no clear explanation from space that kill the u.s. government on this. it's definitely very unusual typically national reconnaissance missions and our missions from the n.r.o. that are typically spy satellites will know that the mission is going to be launched and we'll know that it's a satellite being operated by the n.r.o. or any type of governmental agency this one rings in particularly interesting
11:07 am
because no governmental agency has claimed responsibility for this problem so so in addition to everything that's been happening it's it's just you know it's it's it's it's started as a very secretive and curious mission and it remains to be because the details are very slim and what this whole issue being is founded in secrecy as you say yes i want a reason to be concerned i mean after all this is a spy satellite. well yeah i'm happy you said that that that fact that it's unconfirmed we don't even know if it's a spy satellite so the information in a lot of these larger publications are running with it's assumption we don't know if it's by satellite a weapon or a payload to be used for scientific evidence we don't know this and reasons for for concern that's tough to say without knowing exactly what the payload is it's up to assume what it's going to be used for let's say be a alleged multibillion dollar satellite has been lost still broken how do you think that might affect
11:08 am
a space like this image in future projects in this is very important to know space x. is falcon nine rocket operated nominally so for space x. and it's very important in in the news and for publications to make this distinction that space x. and its falcon nine rocket worked as it was supposed to and the issues happened after payload separation so space x. did what they needed to do and really the way this is being looked at it's it's a form of shipment if they had a truck and took a you know a package and drop it off somewhere it's up to whoever picks it up picks it up and uses it afterwards is their responsibility so to space x. this was the nominal mission there belk in iraq it worked as planned and came back and will came back and landed as planned so for them this this was a mission success up to this point we're still pending additional data reviews so this is really still subject to change as the information comes in i can't wait to
11:09 am
hear from elon musk on that sally today as there's always space comments for the observer at news science thank you for your time. north and south korea have held their first official talks in more than two years the negotiations were held in the demilitarized zone between the two countries and here's what preceded the negotiations january the third saw the reopening of a cross border telephone line the following day donald trump agreed to delay military drills with seoul and till after next month's winter olympics in south korea r.t. is more advanced d.s. has been following developments. it went well which is rare to hear these days when it comes to the korea's one north korea agreed to send a delegation to the winter olympics in pyongyang chang sportspeople performance for the cultural events it's simple if the north attends the olympics it's much less likely to stage a provocation launch another missile to family reunions relatives
11:10 am
separated by the war that haven't seen each other for decades could be allowed reunions deck's month and three perhaps most importantly south korea has proposed to face meetings between the north's and the south's military officials in order to deescalate tensions at long last alternately to denuclearize the peninsula it's a long shorts but it's a start with number one i think we should be engaged in these talks in an earnest sincere manner to give a new year's gift namely the results of the talks to the korean nations. as you mentioned earlier we hope to bring a precious gift to your people but matches the expectations of our people it has been a chaotic year from escalation to escalation saber rattling and childish rhetoric
11:11 am
near enough every month the u.s. and south korea would stage war games on the north's borders that send a message. they even sent nuclear bombers to the north borders north korea was no less provocative and it tested increasingly advanced ballistic missiles stage suspected nuclear weapons tests and. it now reportedly has the capacity to hit mainland united states and joe moon has boasted he has his own button and his desk is part of who is button big contest with trump which is why these talks were so important they allow for a pause for hotheads to cool off and for titan fingers to ease off on the

triggers i think it's a step back from a military solution because there is no military solution it other than death and destruction of hundreds of thousands or a million people or more in the long run both sides would benefit from peace whether there are people within each government that have an objective to maintain this conflict to maintain the battle state the probably our however you know so it's hard to say put north korea into one camp however i see what can come from the talks is a type of peace. treaty and the type of situation where these countries can learn to live in peace and that's only going to come from building relationships the latest talks following months of escalation in rhetoric and saber rattling between north korea and the u.s. however donald trump claims his aggressive attitude towards pyongyang is exactly
11:13 am
what made the diplomatic breakthrough possible. totally destroying north korea that's called the military option the nuclear and ballistic missile programs of that regime require a determined response. little rocket man is a sick puppy. a lot of people said a lot of people have written that without my rhetoric and without my tough so. and so just to stance i mean this is this is what has to be done if it has to be done that they wouldn't be talking about olympics that they wouldn't be talking right. hundreds have been protesting across spain claiming gross mistreatment of refugees in the country they are cry was sparked by the government's decision to temporarily

housed newcomers no jail in the town of r.t. donor. it's not a question got to do so jail but there could have been treated better. infidel the government has used this prison for five hundred seventy eight male migrants from algeria since november this is totally illegal second the conditions under which the migrants live there are illegal they guarded by riot police have been unable to see their relatives they couldn't even embrace each other. the prisons in the mountains in the southern province of mughal are in a town with a population of almost one thousand after their own a hold nationally renowned bullfight sometimes been declared an historic artistic site for its unique architecture or architectural heritage even however art you don't know is now gaining global attention for all the wrong reasons just over a week ago one migrant was found dead in his cell at the prison site however
11:15 am
spanish authorities claim that the facility is brand new and serves as a convenient shelter. we feel it is better that the migrants be held in the center with the latest technology sanitary facilities share was heating beds sports areas and to put them in camps like in other countries and it's not just one spanish region that has been facing difficulties with the migrant influx recent figures show more than twenty thousand refugees have crossed into spain via the mediterranean that's just in the past year but that's more than double the number in twenty sixteen we spoke to maria his vaguer from the united nations human rights council in spain and she compares the spanish crisis to similar cases in other european countries and claiming that authorities can do more u.n.h.c.r. has been always saying refugees and asylum seekers should not be kept in detention
11:16 am
are is just the top of the iceberg of a situation that is not properly handled and the station there has been a high level of improvisation for a long time the figure thing two thousand and seventeen have increased over one hundred percent compared to the previous years but still we're talking about really the monitor board members there is no war the twenty seven thousand people breaking in one year when in the past we've seen with one million or you to leave receive in over one hundred thousand people on a yearly basis so we therefore believe that spain should be doing much more in this regard. we'll be back after this short break. but politicians do something to. put themselves on the line. to get accepted or

rejected. so when you want to be president i'm sure. more some want to be rich. but you'd like to be close to see what before three of the more people get. interested always in the water. there should. anyone else chose seemed wrong why don't we all just don't all. get to shape out just to become educated and in gain from it because betrayal. when so many find themselves worlds apart we choose to look for common ground.

welcome back and the b.b.c. has found itself accused of censorship by its own journalists bounce off to some claim they've been prevented from talking about equal pay when i get more details on this now from maltese poly boyko. play to see you know was provoked this is equal pay route within the company. well the seeds of this route were really planted last summer when the b.b.c. was forced to reveal the salaries of its highest paid staff and that was when the b.b.c.'s china editor carry gracie says that she discovered that the two men who do the same job as her get paid more than the two women who do that job take a listen to the b.b.c.'s former china editor kerry gray say. in
11:19 am
a letter that she's penned on her website explaining her resignation take a lesson in the past few years the b.b.c. has had four international editors two men and two women lost to law i learned that in the previous financial year the two men and at least fifty percent more than the two women these revelations damaged the trust of b.b.c. staff. well kerry gracie says that she told her b.b.c. bosses that the only solution to the problem as she saw it is if all four international editors got paid the same amount of money and crucially she sought to clarify that she wasn't looking for a press pay rise she simply wanted equality of pay but instead her bosses at the b.b.c. offered her quite a hefty pay rise but one that still didn't come anywhere close to equality with the men's salaries she says that the b.b.c. that the b.b.c.
11:20 am
told her that essentially the men's jobs are worth more the two men by the way are the north america editor and the middle east editor now so on top of this original conflict there is now another wish you and that is that after this story broke the head of news at the b.b.c. center reminder to all the staff saying that because of impartiality rules that they're governed by they wouldn't be able to report on the story if they had expressed a view on it because that would amount to a conflict of interest but plenty of women at the b.b.c. have tweeted solidarity with kerry gracey and they are now accusing the b.b.c. of trying to shut them up of censorship this rule has also resulted in a situation whereby this story is being almost exclusively reported by men as well the b.b.c. won't comment on the controversy but they have referred us to their guidelines
11:21 am
which reiterate that if there is a conflict of interest then a reporter cannot report on that story take a listen when dealing with controversial subjects concerning the b.b.c. or reporter julie impulsion as well as. we need to ensure the b.b.c.'s impartiality is not brought into question and presenters or reporters are not exposed to potential conflicts of interest. well the b.b.c. might have to get used to reporting on itself because it looks like this is an issue that isn't going away and there are likely to be more high profile resignations over gender pay equality or inequality thanks for that aside he's a polly boy with the details. now there are a cost of boycotts clothing giant after it advertised a black child the modeling of her day with the words coolest monkey in the jungle
11:22 am
after a huge backlash took down the image however that hasn't stopped a social media storm with the brands being labeled racist and insensitive. marketing. puts a black child in a hoodie that reads and the coolest monkey in the jungle and the white child is the survival expert and now fox are pretending like they don't know the black children have long been racially characterized as monkeys. is just irony i highly doubt they will like let's put the monkey who a bill like al make it and see if there's a white supremacist who works for h. and thought it was funny to make a blackboard mandala hoody that said coolest monkey in the jungle it's an am is not an american company brands do not have to be familiar with usas or other countries historical conflicts on how to do background research for advertising a simple hoodie your old if you know how your feel about the nation and who to situation by folks who do was cute so you mean they've got a little black boy in
11:23 am
a monkey hoodie of course it's offensive but it's so obvious i'm hysterical over the lack of awareness by. we discuss whether the ad is racially insensitive with luke gets asked low editor of spike's magazine. from models of diversity. the whole issue is with this advertising campaign it's an advertising campaign that international is an international campaign and it's so obvious that if you're going to use a connotation like monkey whether a child is a monkey you're going to choose a black child for the campaign and the white child as a survivor of the jungle there is not going to have connotations it's ridiculous to think it's not going to have any contagions whatsoever i think is a really sad i think what has happened is the word monkey has been used because this boy is a child and the word monkey is used to describe children of all races because they're cheeky and mischief first and you can see this across children's clothes for children of all races and this was part of
11:24 am
a jungle themed clothing line the idea that this was somehow racially malevolent i think is utterly ludicrous i'm so disappointed by this campaign i've seen them do they always use a mix of models but this is really not you know it's ill timed to say the least is what this campaign is it's really badly thought out all by a board of white directors because even if it was even if there's that opinion that it's just like badly thought it might be parents that are negatively thinking about this you cannot deny the connotations that it held i don't think this has that connotation for the vast majority of people the vast majority of people think this is a perfectly innocent campaign involving children of all races involved in the jungle and i think it's really sad when adults pre conceptions about racism and race get read into childhood interactions i think that is potentially extremely
11:25 am
corrosive if this kind of thinking gets into our school environment for example what are we going to end up saying that black children can't be involved in games that might involve jungle animals children are going to get involved in games involve jungle animals if you don't know specifically choose a campaign where the. lap child is chosen as the monkey and the white child is chosen as the jungle survivor in a climate of racial tension you know it's going to have connotations especially for their parents i was bullied by a whole class called a monkey by the by a whole class when i was going into a class and then really had an affair and if that's going to have an effect on me that's going to have an effect on generations to come because you're the parent of that child you can't get away from the strongest way we can deal with this is by moving children beyond race that should be the goal for everyone in society is making children not think about their race that's the way we should be proceeding but what this thinking guards is that it reads into people's motivations
11:26 am
a racist and malign motivation and the previous speaker just did exactly that they said well there's a white board of people this must be a racist thing this must be racial why can't it simply be that this is a child a child who is black or white who cares it doesn't matter the swedish based clothing giant has apologized in a statement eighteen m. x. the controversial hoodies been scraps from both is our line platforms and stores across the globe the retailer also said that the garments in question will no longer be sold. well thanks for choosing r.t. international fold the latest news headlines my colleague daniel hawkins will be with you at the top of the out while. the two thousand and eight economic crisis turns some countries into paix these are the countries with weaker economies that needed austerity policies if you are in
11:27 am
a situation of flow bloat even the recession austerity is a very bad idea it doesn't work and it makes millions of people very unhappy those who are unemployed see their wages decline off to almost a decade how good are the results she saw last at the new year and peaceful by the people gathered in which the wider world beat people with your daughter june cheer choice you can trade it be it will be she still plumbers i mean to for legal. challenge must be more than this she is not was always think they see something and not get it. while the same measure is still in place to one of the consequences who is to weaken bluebirds food this movie will first be one of those was the truth the consider this is the consequences are actually quite acceptable to the decision makers.

well when the guys report i'm max kaiser you know trillion dollars of new wealth popped into the wealth was fair last year the question is is that a good thing or a bad thing you know if it's all an evenly distributed it just goes into an ever smaller concentration of a few kleptocrats and cock a stock or nincompoops maybe that's not a good thing. yes max in fact in twenty seventeen the world's wealthiest became one trillion dollars richer that's just the five hundred richest people in the world on the forbes list so that's one trillion dollars that's put into context by the way the crypto currency market which is not yet
11:30 am
a trillion dollars. you also have the u.s. housing market added two trillion dollars last year again a lot of that is owned by the likes of blackstone and all these other private equity groups. so just putting into context this trillion dollars five hundred people all right two thousand a financial crisis when sub prime became the buzz word of the year and many people lost their homes they vulture capitalist a private equity groups warren buffett they swooped in and they bought hundreds of thousands of units for pennies on the dollar and now they have become america slumlord and yes they're making a nother two trillion dollar hit but the black community was completely disenfranchised and now they're on the streets of course because they've been made homeless by warren buffett and his elk the biggest gain in the number of billionaires was thirty eight chinese billionaires on the bloomberg index added one hundred seventy seven billion dollars and twenty seven thousand
