came over smithsonian gave new insight into this book. headlines on international wiki leaks julian assange has been granted and. the country's push to resolve his case is reportedly being met with resistance from the u.k. government. and you would report says iraqi refugees are being forced to return home by the country's security forces into areas that are still deemed dangerous. and donald trump slams the release of an interview with one of the authors of the infamous dossier on alleged collusion with russia and we discussed the transcript with. a russian attorney who is mentioned and accused of being

a broke up which we moscow. during the recession excellent information gathering and analytical skills. i found down to the connection of glenn simpson to the chogm dossier i could hardly believe it. very well welcome to you for all of us here at the international in moscow you come your latest world news headlines. a new development in the julian assange case the wiki leaks co-founder has been granted an ecuadoran id card as a step towards and his five year confinement in ecuador's london embassy and i see a check on our reports the mystery of what happens next in this ever complicated tricky and internationally spanning case of julian assange really continues with some developments trickling in this evening here in london where we are in fact
2:02 am
outside the ecuadorian embassy and some of the confusion of some of the reports that have been coming out seems to be stemming from first of all it tweets that julian assange had posted on his twitter page wearing a t. shirts with the ecuadorian national colors parking lots of debate and questions online about whether or not this could potentially me. that he has either has been or is on his way to being granted citizenship those questions of course are yet to be specifically answered by either julian assange himself the founder of wiki leaks or ecuadorian officials what we do know so far is that a son seems to have been issued some sort of national ecuadorian identification number which is easily seen on the ecuadorian website where this particular number coincides with his full name now the questions there are whether or not this is an i.d. that could potentially be used for him to apply for a quick dorian citizenship or somehow change his status when it comes to this very
2:03 am
complicated case that has now spanned over several years what we do know as this comes following earlier statements from the ecuadorian foreign minister saying that it's really time to move on with his case let's take a listen with a person can't live in those conditions. we're considering the option of mediation you know police who don't have said that could be done virus that country or individual. no solution is possible without international corporations or without that if the u.k. which has expressed interest in finding one well there are lots of questions now about who this potential mediator could be because obviously when it comes to the complications of julian assange being able to actually step out of this embassy behind us revolves largely on what his status is in the u.k. but so certainly a lots of questions we're going to obviously be watching this very closely in terms of what is this going to mean for songes status not just within ecuador but
2:04 am
potentially his case beginning to move forward a little bit more on top of that the u.k. foreign office has reportedly denied a request from ecuador to grant us diplomatic immunity. the foreign office to comment on the situation so far we've received no comment now if steps out from the embassy here potentially face arrest for breaching bail in the u.k. as well as possible extradition to the u.s. and we discuss the situation surrounding our songe with our guests. i think that this is really a continuation of a very dangerous and wrongheaded policy to target whistleblowers julian is one of the biggest international whistleblowers and i think that they really want his head on a platter the u.k. authorities are not wanted to discuss this they have just made clear that they regard somebody who can be branded and even now when the swedish extradition request has been withdrawn that's why it's so wise so they could organise or it is to try to sort it out. to make sure that the u.k.
2:05 am
authorities do what clearly is that you did under international law to let. a song free. iraqi security forces are forcing refugees to leave some or tons of homes despite these being unsafe areas that's according to a new report by the un refugee agency it says more than thirteen thousand families were forced to come back to dangerous zones and those who returned faced a number of problems from tribal conflicts to booby traps left by fleeing islamic state fighters the report also says at least fourteen return e.e.'s have been killed and we spoke to people in one refugee camp about their fears of returning home.
2:06 am
we moved to this camp three years ago we don't want to return to our home yet we're afraid of tribes the houses are destroyed we have no place to live in the fields with it houses elusive even the ones are torn out of the bulls and there's lots of booby traps and five days ago our neighbors there started to find a woman some water something went off and now they kids are in hospital has some scary. but here there are very few people from a village who returned home there's nothing left no electricity and water supply doesn't work we may return in the future but only when the area we see school from having. two point six million internally displaced people at this point recently entered internally displaced this is not counting iraqis outside the country and
2:07 am
many of them being forcibly returned to places they don't want to go to that they don't think are safe if your home is rubble and there are corpses lying in the streets and there are explosives and mines and improvised explosive devices littering your former home no you shouldn't be compelled to return that's not humanitarian aid that's further humanitarian abuse the allegation seems widespread in iraq that the prime minister is seeking to get sunni's back to their homes to allow an election to proceed this spring as so p.r. is taking precedence over substantive aid to human beings both within iraq and without. the iraqi prime minister has denied that refugees are
2:08 am
being forced to return to areas he says it's misinformation spread by his political rivals. another twist in the stateside russia saga with the release of an interview with the man who commissioned the infamous dossier on alleged collusion between moscow and the us president has tweeted that this testimony was made public in. a legal way some republicans claim this dossier triggered the whole f.b.i. investigation into alleged ties although in his interview. the co-founder of g.p.s. fusion denies the influence of his company on those allegations the dossier itself wasn't the only topic of the interview that. came up almost as many times as the dossier she was accused of being involved in. with donald trump jr and twenty sixteen. to discuss the latest details. night you.
2:09 am
know the person behind this testimony glenn simpson for quite a while now tell us more about how your relationship came about with. this woman for the first time in twenty fifteen during my first visit to the united states before that we exchanged e-mails were introduced by lawyers who were hired in new york to represent a client a russian businessman in a case initiated by than a tourist mr browder in two thousand thirteen during our corporation excellent information gathering and analytical skills including the ability to distinguish truth from gossip i was very excited about reading the testimony he delivered back in august this long documents of almost three hundred pages because two different topics the first is the so-called charm dots here the second is about his relations with me when last here i found out about the connection of glenn simpson to the trial does year i could hardly believe it we've utilises the image of the term cock
2:10 am
you've mentioned a discrepancy between the quality of simpson's work that you used to and the quality of the infamous trump dossier why did simpson allow something like that to come out under his name. is an anonymous report if people had been working on it did not admit that publicly we would have never known the authors of the report what raises questions that the sources of these authors are not named why did worse by unnamed unverified sources from a basis for an investigation conducted by at least four different government bodies of the united states not only does this investigation distract politicians from real issues but it also wasting taxpayers' money newcrest mueller was his ago off going back to simpson's testimony some media outlets have pointed out his account of events contradicts us regarding whether or not you two met in july two thousand and sixteen did that meeting take play. news might be on of his ago here despite
2:11 am
all the headlines i see no contradiction now with testament is in my recent testimony to the senate i stated that i didn't mean grand simpson that day on the ninth of june look at his testimony he says i'm not sure maybe but this statement is not treated as completely affirmative on the ninth of june two thousand and sixteen the u.s. court of appeals for the second circuit called a hearing on mr brown just keys he demanded a lewis was dropped from the keys after they called her him to be questioned later that day i had a meeting with john jr i asked him to look into this case and to encourage congress to investigate mr brown just actions aimed at manipulating public institutions in the united states learned simpson who worked in our team for my russian client also happened to be connected to. the congressman investigating the case obsessed with this date because they hoped to prove i had a meeting with glen simpson that day and this caused the meeting was trying jr
2:12 am
assume and that my main goal was to blackmail donald trump it's only if i saw this guy has just mentioned bill browder who's also mentioned by simpson he was an investor in russia and later was accused of masterminding a large scale tax evasion scheme presents guy defended a russian company accused of money laundering a case in which browder gave testimony and she pressed proud to come clean about his activities in russia. because gordo belittled any more thought among the talking points disclosed in the memo besides the russia trump collusion of course bill browder in it simpson slams the former businessman on several occasions the cues in him of being obsessed with russia while being actively implicit in tax avoidance schemes and even money laundering can you give us your judgment on the situation. but all that but much of that won't punish browder is obsessed as russia he said to russia not only by his desire for revenge but also mentally he and russia he got married it's
2:13 am
a russian woman he has half russian children his ties to russia and the list truong is mine after all his crimes he should be grateful to russia for love throwing him behind bars while it was still possible condition as to a board of congress he will not withstanding the gravity of the allegations mr brough did to testified before the us congress during the summer of twenty seventeen mainly talking about the alleged complicated collusion scheme. mr rather you have given us a firsthand insight into putin's russia you may have done more to fight corruption worldwide than any other individual and i appreciate what you have done thank you for uncovering the facts and i'm sure how i can tell it's difficult to talk about the life and tragic death of your friend and someone who is your colleague i want to join my colleagues and thanking you for being here today and admiring your courage and tenacity awkward moments of us but do you think the u.s. perception of mr browder will change following the publication of simpson's
2:14 am
testimony. yes i can use the weapons misled you i don't want to sound naive but i really hold this history will end with a victory for common sense to me because i knew that i knew how come all this time people like simpson and browder got congress through time while you the person accused of being involved in the alleged collusion scheme never got any on this forum because i knew i submitted a written testimony to congress where oncet one hundred seventy four questions after starting the testimony members of congress were supposed to make a decision on whether to subpoena me to testify in person so far no such subpoena has been issued i don't know the reason but if i want to speculate i would assume that the answer is i'd give would not suit their interests. the british army is trying to keep up with the times by recognizing that its soldiers have emotional needs as a look at how the new approach compares with the old no nothing but only organized
2:15 am
rather thick face it doesn't fit in well not like they but the more you know i mean the more you know we're. the army's five. told the friends family there's always someone there to talk to you. even just make. the british army out as part of a campaign to attract a more diverse range of recruits he can see the new ads compared with the much older ones a former u.k. intelligence officer philip ingram says he doesn't hold out much hope that the more inclusive approach will boost recruiting numbers. i was quite surprised to see these videos that are coming out i do understand that there's been market research suggesting that they should target more minority groups but if they can't recruit enough people from the majority groups that the british military have traditionally recruited from i don't see what the senses in targeting these minority groups but i
2:16 am
think the whole program the advertising campaign is flawed because they're spending an awful lot of money on this because the british army spent until september last year ten million times on its recruiting come pins but one. piece of press from the not looking after one of the veterans or one of the current serving soldiers is enough to undo the ten million pound company and the best people to recruit are the soldiers themselves and if they can come out with positive stories to say what it is that they've achieved their academic achievements their training achievements the adventurous activities that they get involved in the team spirit that they build up and then they can take that and reflect whenever they come back into society again as veterans and veterans come out with a good experience of not just how they've been looked after when ever they served but how that set them up to go into civilian life i still to come here on the
2:17 am
program on our senators in the united states have named vladimir putin the number one threat to democracy in europe and america more on that after the break. join me every thursday on the alex salmond chill and i'll be speaking to us from the world of politics school this list i'm showbusiness i'll see you then. this is an amazing story because now we're seeing a real geo political impact of bitcoin on a g. twenty country g.
2:18 am
seven countries japan actually the spending power they called it the rise of big going in the millions of people have been buying it in japan the multi billion dollars that they've appreciated in value is causing a genuine effect in their economy and this is going to be the year twenty eight where bitcoin cryptocurrency have this geo political influence. i see joining us here in the u.s. state of north carolina has been ordered to redraw its congressional map which shows how the state is divided into voting districts it's off to republicans that admitted to gerrymandering manipulating borders for political gain ok let up on him best. here's an old political hack courtesy of us politicians redraw the voting
2:19 am
districts in order to favor your party that's what the republican party did in north carolina in two thousand and sixteen but they went too far the federal courts have stepped in and said that they rial aid in the us constitution we. are going to use political data to draw in this manner it is to gain or some advantage on the back. gerrymandering from this country to numerous fundamental democratic principles and individual rights. let's take a look at how the twelve congressional district in north carolina was drawn now that's clearly not exactly a random sampling of the population but that's not the only place that happens all across the country this is an old trick in u.s. politics and even has a name gerrymandering the process of redrawing district lines to give an advantage to one party. a matter that we have a state of fifty people twenty of them are democrats thirty republicans blues
2:20 am
living on one side the state and reds on the other now the state needs to be divided into districts with each sending one representative to the house first option to divide them into five separate districts horizontally with three republican representatives and two democrats but if the republican party in the state is more powerful it can be divided in the reds favor with each district getting six republicans and four democrats which means that all the representatives will be republican and vice versa say the democratic party controls the state then its territory can be divided into districts in quite a chaotic way in order to give more house representation for democrats so even though the state has a republican majority democrats win three seats and republicans only two it's constitutionally infirm you know parties are not supposed to redistrict in order to give any party political advantage again we know that happens the courts are tired of. these gerrymandering they're tired particularly of racial gerrymandering which
2:21 am
everyone knows is happening and they want it to stop and i think therefore that a lot of this redistricting in any case even aside from what happened here is going to be looked at more closely by the court but usually it's done in more subtle ways here they didn't very blatant way there was evidence that they did it for political reasons and so i think it was easy for the court to reach the decision they did the founding fathers of the united states extolled the virtues of representative government but it looks like a loophole in the constitution they created as unable to situation to come into existence in which instead of people choosing their politicians politicians get to choose their voters cable glop and r.t. new york. but i mean putin is the number one threat to democracy in europe and america that's according to a new report published by u.s. senate democrats it took more than a year for its authors to compile the two hundred page document the report collects
2:22 am
the most frequently voiced allegations against russia everything from political assassinations to state sponsored doping and cyber attacks it also contains a wide range of proposals aimed at protecting american democracy from alleged russian meddling for example it proposes the creation of an international coalition to deal with any interference from moscow and suggests spending millions of dollars to help europe and you raise your protect themselves we discuss the report with political analyst charles holt. it's really shameful it's fake accounting of history it's not objective it doesn't really have a proper context and i think serious objective people when they look at this and they try to weigh up the various ways in which we could spend money this won't be won i don't think that that committee reflects. the will of the american people or even indeed the will of congress i think the democrats tend to vote as a block and this this report which must have been in preparation for many months is

yet another tool really used to continue to sell the you know the anti russian look there and there are to have an end to sell the russian collusion delusion when a new senate is seated perhaps with a stronger republican trop led majority you're going to see very different reports coming out of the committee. police and if you charge three men with provocation for waving and his ready flag pro palestinian demonstrators the rally was back in december it was in response to donald trump's decision to recognize jerusalem as the capital of israel and the israeli activists deny they were being provocative claiming they only unfurled the flag after having anti semitic abuse hurled at them and is it created it all started with slogans in english like down down usa down down israel then we heard them shouting intifada child murder israel and death to israel the president of the belgian league against anti-semitism says he's concerned by the protests that were seen after trump's controversial decision not
2:24 am
in jerusalem. police are they sure that there's a car right steve those people in the east and that is running the most russian were shouting on transmitting slogans and we saw several incidents of curing those last weeks and months in europe of following the coercion of the u.s. president on the night from regarding juries an end but also even more frightening taught by those last jurists in several european countries in the diary seen to lose a seat in the brussels and other places in copenhagen on soldiers were killed because they were jews so we are facing a violent wave of the semitic actions and we can meet even two killings of jews in europe today and we are back in about half an hour.
