russia calls for a new international probe into syrian chemical weapons attacks for the us secretary of state claims moscow burrs responsibility for all such crimes regardless of who's . also ahead this hour protests brickyard to a crawl switzerland against the gathering of the rich and powerful at the world economic forum in davos where donald trump is expected to make an appearance later this week. on the american government confirms that several u.s. citizens were among the twenty two people killed in a taliban assault on a hotel in the afghan capital of the week.
10:21 pm
six pm in beijing at nine pm in melbourne on one in the morning right here in moscow welcome to r.t. international my names you know name our top story the u.n. security council has just concluded the session on the chemical weapons attacks in syria for the details let's cross live now to see mira samir a high there tell us what was said at the u.n. here in new york today. well let's first go into what happened exactly just today rex tillerson said that assad may be continuing to use chemical weapons alleging that assad was responsible for a suspected chemical attack that supposedly happened on monday problem is it hasn't even been confirmed that these attacks even happened a little and who is responsible there are only two sources that even claim this
10:22 pm
happened number one the syrian observatory for human rights and number two the white helmets who's embedded with rebel forces so it's safe to say that the u.s. is describing blame solely based on online sources it's also worth mentioning that the o.p.c. w. is the only entity capable of conducting investigations and has been tasked with the responsibility to do so by the u.n. and the u.s. for that matter and the investigative process usually takes months so how is the u.s. able to gather all of the information and evidence necessary just one day after the alleged attack especially when the o.p.c. w takes months so as of now we have no credible sources but going back to secretary tillerson statement not only did he accuse assad of perpetrating a chemical attack without evidence but he also said that russia would bear responsibility for the chemical attacks and tillerson wasn't the only one hether
10:23 pm
now are also accused russia of blocking investigation into the matter saying that which is obviously completely false a russia china and bolivia have all put forth a draft resolution after draft resolution all of which the u.s. has voted against and of course that fact is conveniently left out of the narrative but going to the security council russia stated their concern over the issue but also said that the joint investigative mechanism became a political tool and they also called for an impartial investigation into all cases of chemical weapons use in syria including the joint. investigative mechanisms new reports but even though several member states supported the proposal of a new impartial investigation the u.s. rejected it what's interesting is that these chemical attacks allegedly happened right before the meeting in vienna and the sochi summit on the syrian crisis that's set to take place in a few days samir account bring us right up to date with the meeting which happened
10:24 pm
within the past number of hours there thanks very much samir well a lot to chew on on this let's try discuss some of the developments bring in investigative journalist david lindorff dave hello you're very welcome to the program. russia is calling for a new chemical. we can just take a listen to what was said by the u.s. and russian envoys hope you can listen as well. earlier this week we received yet another report that the assad regime has used chlorine gas against its own people it's though it was a show signal godley u.s. and u.k. envoys of russia to accuse the syrian government before receiving any evidence and without waiting for the investigation to finish russia has the audacity to lecture this security council about how to stop the use of chemical weapons of mass we were the strongest advocates for an investigation a professional investigation not an imitation of russia all on its own killed the
10:25 pm
mechanism we had specifically tasked to dinner fired those responsible for using chemical weapons in syria knew the joint investigative mechanism which has ceased its work has failed in its mission the probe did not stand up to any scientific scrutiny it became an instrument for political manipulation it was russia's complicit in the assad regime's atrocities you could not have lost when you know some countries are still trying to force the organization for the prohibition of chemical weapons or to put the blame on damascus they do not understand that in doing so they are undermining your thora city of this respected organization. yeah a lot of to and fro here dave a lot of blaming each other do you see any way out of this standoff after that. well no not unless there's a will to get to the bottom of it but i mean what i what i guess i would say is that the u.s.
10:26 pm
reputation on these charges of gas is by sight i have no idea what happened here but i would say that in the all the incidents from two thousand and thirteen through two thousand and seventeen and right up to this one the u.s. has reputation for integrity on the last investigations has been completely in the trash. because they've been making claims that turn out to be. you know at least questionable and sometimes bogus. on. tracing it to a side and the second thing that i find troubling is that it makes no sense for assad to be doing this and finally to blame the russians. it doesn't make sense because it's not in the russian's interest for assad to be doing this if they have any control over him so you know on a number of counts and the timing of it i find it very suspicious and i think it really mean it's a clear independent investigation just on that last point that the u.s.
10:27 pm
secretary of state claims russia bears quote ultimate responsibility for all chemical attacks in syria because of its military presence there is the correct. well first of all the u.s. has the ultimate blame for all that per any personnel weapons being used in yemen and it doesn't except it so i mean if you supply that stuff to a country you certainly a calf to accept the blame nobody is claiming that russia is supplying gas to assad so. where they're saying that it's russia's responsibility would have to be that russia was allowing him to somehow hide gas and then use it but as we can see from this incident and ones before every time it's used it's used to attack russia so i don't know why russia would have any interest at all in allowing assad to use
10:28 pm
gas the russian envoy did come out very direct statements there just within the past hour or so i keep saying western powers of applying pressure on the chemical probe in syria how much of an issue and much of a problem do you think that is or otherwise what we've seen it before in the earlier investigations that a lot of pressure gets put on the investigators to come up with a preconceived. conclusion and and then the evidence doesn't really get looked at. and it's and then the you know this is sort of a forced result it's predictable so i think that that is correct i don't think that we've been getting in on this investigation from the investigators do you think they're for russia's call for a new probe will be welcomed will it be at not welcomed by other world powers what
10:29 pm
happens now if you think that. well the the u.s. and the countries in nato that are you know largely subservient to the u.s. on these issues and follow follow whatever the u.s. wants them to do. are are looking for a one ensor and they have a lot of the votes i guess when it comes to. these investigations of politics should be at play here and i think russia is sort of. there's certainly it's politics to blow for in play and anything to do with syria. so all i can say is that i have a great deal of skepticism about what's being said right now they have lindorff finding editor of the new site this count to be hopping thank you very much for your take this hour thanks for having.

this with martin resort of delaval us has opened its doors for the annual world economic forum now with this year's focus on creating a shared future in a fractured world doubts the title it's polled in a record number of world leaders they include donald trump who is only the second every u.s. president to attend the summit but many are determined to show he's not welcome. around two thousand people marched through the streets which lends the largest city zurich to the nines trumps a visit to the entire gallery in fact several smaller protests took place elsewhere in such lending to geneva checking for the night takes a closer look at what's on the agenda in davos is. the world economic forum is well underway here in scenic town of davos nestled in the swiss alps and the guest list
