screen by the way is believed to be the suspected gunman it had been said earlier that it was a white male dressed in burgundy and this seems to. echo he had been in a in a. in an officer's car as you can see now he is leaving it was put on a stretcher from a from a nearby and so obviously he's being brought or maybe is being treated in the us well. he's able to stand as you can see whether he has been injured as well in that gun shot with authorities we do not know we just know that he has been taken into custody believed to have been brought to a hospital at this stage ok i believe we can actually cross the line let's try to go to dominic is so who is a police officer in the u.s. dominick if you can hear me now. what might trigger a student a target as classmates like this if it is followed to be
4:31 pm
a student that karri decide it's not the first time we've heard all of this but from your experience what does this look like to you. now i'm a former police officer i'm a tell you what this looks like to me as we keep our addressing these issues of mass school shootings is this is an ultimate cry for attention and i'd like to see the media for the first time not look at this is a gun issue and to shy away from the anatomy object or start start to look away from why or how these individuals are getting the guns and start looking at the intent behind it why are they doing this what's the mental health of this person what's their personal individual issue if there's one thing that we do know it's been proven time and time again that the gun itself does not do any damage but the issue is the person behind it their intent their motives their means we have to start looking at accountability of the human being and make this an issue more focus towards them in mental health i don't know one sane one man. one
4:32 pm
compassionate human being on the planet who takes such a massive cry for attention that they have to take a life or several lives of others this is got to stop being a gun issue this has to stop being a mental health and human issue nonetheless though we are looking at the pictures here we're looking at what appears to be we do not know but if it is a student from that school he would be age in the high school what fifteen to eighteen he may not be old enough to buy a weapon yet he had one this is a huge issue time and time again. it's an issue for what reason we have parents we have friends unfortunately or fortunately whichever way you want to look at it the access to a firearm is never going to be an issue we have no idea if his parents own firearms have no idea if an older sibling did a friend did it the fact that he was willing to go get a firearm and carry out this action speaks volumes about him we need to start looking at the individual and determine what was his issue what was his motive well
4:33 pm
which has driven purpose because this was nothing more than a cry for attention that he didn't get has nothing to do with the firearms i don't think you are a former placement in chicago is that right. the northwest suburbs of chicago correct so you would have seen a lot of similar issues like chicago particularly inner city has seen similar things do you think that schools because what we have seen a lot of our people bringing weapons into schools and carving this out is there enough security is there too much is there anything that can be done if somebody wants to bring a weapon into a school can you stop them. i think you cannot stop ingenuity you cannot stop a creative mindset and we let it get this way we stopped parenting all we did was we took the accountability off the parents and put these kids in school and we took the accountability off of the teachers and we let these kids do whatever they want this is the byproduct of a free willed individual being able to say i am not going to suffer consequences i
4:34 pm
need attention i'm going to get attention the greatest way possible the media and i'm not saying you i'm saying the media in general this is what we put on display our children see their names and legacy and infamy and a way to get in a massive amount of attention we have to start looking at parents we have to lay blame words do which is discipline parenting. working together with our communities we have children who just don't have any self-worth self-identity and this is what happens this is the end result. we look at shootings like this on the overwhelming amount of them happened in the u.s. that what what we heard and it's not being verified is that this shooter had a large weapon maybe that was a right a hunting rifle maybe it was a sniper's rifle who know is up to stage but in other countries tell me if something if this happens it tends to be a stopping if you have a possibly a semi automatic rifle. gun excuse me in
4:35 pm
a school you can do a lot more damage without than you can do with a knife so surely some of the rules on gun control they're simply not doing enough to stop attacks like this. you have to ask yourself you could remove every single gun in the car or make every dog gun law in the country the toughest in the world you can say right now from this point forward no one in america is ever allowed to buy a gun again the problem is what do you do then with all of the millions of guns that are already out there it's not gun laws if you want to get. and how they go to war and other weapons to look into it by allowing people to buy them what seems to be quite freely its intent. its intent it is intense you look at people who drive cars and do mass amounts of crowds we look at stabbings you look at the individual the greater than the greater distance you have but it's our. source are meant to do harm to their intent to kill they're meant to maim cars are not meant to do that
4:36 pm
their mode of transport you know it's an r.v. individual carries that out ok. let's don't it will carry that out what do you think what do you think by the way happens to this person looks that. he's going to be brought in the hospital if he's if he is under-age and he has killed people possibly his schoolmates what generally happens now is. i would hope the court system looks at this and take this very seriously i do not think that anyone who is in a teenager at least can be a functioning member of our society after such an act like this i think that they need to be put away i think that this person has voided all of their or their rights to this to our way of life and i think there has to be much more severe consequences while we were just looking at the pictures we have been. looking at a story of a boy in the school tweeting saying he was scared he was under a desk he was waiting for police to come and get him i can tell you that the person
4:37 pm
who is tweeting say they are now free so at least we have little bit of good news in this terrible story dominick is a former police officer speaking to us from chicago this sardonic thanks for coming on a short notice as well. thank you. well this is not the first school shooting that has happened in the u.s. of course it does seem to be when this occurs children are they at majority of victims. but why.
4:38 pm
well let's return now to our correspondent simular i can who earlier today was following a shooting elsewhere in the u.s. and now she is following this from inside florida samir what do we know about this we were saying i've been reading varying reports on this that there are multiple fatalities we know as far as we can tell from the police that there is one at least one twenty people at least injured what developments are we hearing. well a shooting incident is still under way at a high school about fifty kilometers north of miami multiple injuries have been reported and some reports have been saying that fourteen victims have been confirmed but ambulances police cars and armored vehicles are still at the scene
4:39 pm
but according to police the suspected. shooter has been detained and is now in custody however the scene is still active now one student posted photos from his classroom where he and his fellow students were hiding behind desks but the school is still under code red lockdown florida governor rick scott he said that he had been in touch with local officials about the incident and president trump actually offered his condolences and prayers via twitter but like like i said before we don't really have that many details as yet so we'll continue to provide you with the latest developments yeah these are ok severe thank you for that we're just looking at pictures of the school as you're talking there it seems that most of the kids are being taken out of there now but we will of course keep a very close eye on that story right throughout the hour here twenty four seven are to be true.
4:40 pm
about your sudden passing i've only just learned. you worry yourself in taking your last wrong turn. your attitude up to you as we all knew it would i tell you i'm sorry. so i write these last words in hopes to put to rest these things that i never got off my chest. i remember when we first met my life turned on each breath
4:41 pm
. but then my feeling started to change you talked about war like it was again still some are fond of you those that didn't like to question our ark and i secretly promised to never again like it said one does not leave a funeral the same as one enters my mind it's consumed with this one. i speak to you now because there are no other takers. to claim that mainstream media has met its maker. the games have begun the younger sister of north korea's ruler kim jong il has captured the attention of the media while the u.s. vice president mike pence was mocked as a dud even undiplomatic the two koreas or engaging each other. welcome to mexico as are plentiful survival guide. looking forward to

a year that's without. yanks this is what happens to pensions in britain. watched as a report. welcome back to our extended news hour reports that the american led coalition in syria is killed dozens of russian mercenaries have led to headlines raising the specter of direct u.s. russia confrontation moscow has now responded to their claims. russian citizens might be in syria but they don't belong to russia's armed forces over the citizens which once again we are calling on everyone not to move on in time to move forward from formation and take a serious approach and describing such an important issue to me because also suggested all media sources to reach out to russia's defense ministry to various

facts before publishing and asked for the us side the world there has been no confirmation coming from the air on the contrary the u.s. defense secretary said that he has no information that amy and russian army servicemen were at the casualties following the u.s. air strikes now a number of first appeared on different social media platforms last week suggesting that anywhere from several dozens to up to several hundred russian mercenaries were killed in syria and the reports of russian casualties were very quickly picked up by different international media sources including the bloomberg c.n.n. and the daily mail the new york times and many others so as it stands for now there has been no confirmation provided regarding the story of well one week ago pro-government forces in syria were it by the u.s. led coalition near the euphrates river the coalition say as it was responding to an
4:44 pm
provoked a tug on the syrian democratic forces headquarters there who are fighting the government but these are some of the survivors being treated at a local hospital. here we spoke earlier about another shooting incident in the u.s. this is our update you on our breaking news in just a moment but first police in the u.s. city of boston are facing a barrage of criticism for their choice of person to honor during black history month they picked a white baseball coach who promoted block players. and around six thirty tonight p.p.d. post a tweet saying in an array of black history month we pay tribute to celtics legend red are back the first n.b.a. coach to draft a black player in one nine hundred sixty. below
4:45 pm
world your couldn't think of a single black person to honor can do you know missing the whole point of black history month what part of black history month don't you understand. b p d realizes they don't know their tweet may have offended some and they apologize for that our intentions were never to offend. the people of boston deserve an apology and arbitrary that says may have offended some. people need to be understand that what has happened in this country with this group of people called african-americans as that they've made an impact on the world it's world history that we should be a part of and not just as victims but people who played
4:46 pm
a role that would make america more sly than to pretend that we're not here or that we should only be recognized one month in the year. by shooting incident hours on folded up a high school in florida according to authorities at least fourteen victims have been confirmed by the local assuras office the latest line on this local media are reporting that seven people of being killed the suspected shooter has been detained what you're seeing. earlier of children fleeing from school if they had been told to stay in their classrooms or possibly kids were near the exits us police were trying to get them bit by bit three thought children living in a large high school there not a leader more i would assume that most of them have already left out school it happened around three hours ago this incident as you can see this is from
4:47 pm
a. media helicopter in the sky. a lot more police cars armored vehicles we saw even it as well joined. her there so the latest line this breaking news from side florida the high school where a gunmen we do not know who the gunman was we did see the person being brought into custody what looks to be the suspect meal to be under twenty years of age but we cannot tell for sure look to be injured he was brought in and away from the area. let's go to try and bring in jeanne jeanne is the political analyst and psychology expert jr welcome to the program we're just looking at pictures of what is unfolding here as children are being children being led audit of that school you can only assume that they're in a very bad state some of the students themselves said that they heard gunshots you know and obviously as we're hearing seven people now believed to have been killed
4:48 pm
possibly some of their friends of the people we just saw there how do students who end up being victims of the shooting actually deal with this. well it's it's absolutely imperative that they get some counseling i myself am right here in this area and i will be volunteering to go and to help however i can in the days that follow and really in the weeks that follow and even perhaps honestly in the years that follow we're hearing reports now that there was especially one instance i don't know if you've heard where there was a student who was begging to get in a locked door once they were in lockdown so for the children who listened to that particular instance it won't be easy but we do know that as children do go through this and they process it and they get the counseling they can come out healthy and strong on the other side you're saying it isn't
4:49 pm
purdah but be no receive additional psychological help soon as possible to overcome what would have been monkey shock this. yes and these are things that you know will affect them probably for the rest of their lives in some ways but there are numerous coping mechanisms that you know any kind of therapist can help them go through so that they can deal with you know whatever their their fears are maybe even of just being in a closed room are being in a room. a building with a lot of rooms i mean any of those kinds of things can can create a post-traumatic stress situation for some of these students and then for you know some of them because they are still relatively young they may have trouble verbalizing some of that we all know that you know that they have motional processing of a brain doesn't really take place until the twenty's and so that emotional
4:50 pm
part of their brain will need to be kept in check and carefully monitored and i would think that some sort of therapy would be involved for virtually everyone who was there today this is far from being this incident like this in a school in the us is far from being the sole instance in your state of florida as well what might motivate a shooter to attack his classmates if it is phoned to be a person of school age who attended that school in south florida. right and that's what we're hearing is that it was someone who did it formally at least attend but i also heard him referred to as a man so that would tell me that maybe he is an alum of the school and not a current student but because he did run out with all the students at least this is the early reports we're hearing it is expected that perhaps he was at least at one
4:51 pm
time a student or a still rather young we don't know completely but as far as motivation this is the hardest thing in the world to explain what would motivate a shooter like this if we knew of course we would be much better at preventing it but there are signs that you can look for you know isolation is always one of them a lot of time alone for some of these shooters we find. we do find that they tend to fit a profile and it sounds like perhaps this young man did fit a profile i imagine as we go forward we if he is indeed a lot of the school will probably hear that you know there was some some hostility toward that school and that maybe this wasn't random but you know one of the one of the concerns is just always trying to identify these people and get them help way before these kinds of things ever happen and that's why it's so important that schools do take
4:52 pm
a really active role in parents as well in precluding the kinds of things that can cause someone to get to a horrid place obviously and i am urging those credibly difficultly though i much of those so hard to know a person especially a teenager may be lonely not alone are there so many things that perhaps you would not know is it possible that school. is there a little things to ticks that you can tell that psychological problems in advanced to this much is so so hard to do. it is so so hard to do but the loner thing is a big one we find out almost all the time that this person is a loner that they don't have a lot of friends that they tend to isolate themselves very intentionally and you know for parents and for schools alike that's always
4:53 pm
a warning sign. you know we'll tend to find that some of these people have given some science and once in a while though we get somebody who there has been no science nobody could see anything the child was relatively social so again you can't across the board draw any real conclusions on the type of person that's going to do this but it looks like what we know with this particular student right now that it sounds like perhaps you know this might not have been a complete stranger act that this might have been. known you know this might have been targeting the school for some reason if he is indeed a former student of that school it also sounds like he knew the his way around the school which means additional deaths unfortunately because he knows how to get in and get out of the school obviously he knew it was a gun free zone so there weren't going to be guns protecting the students there makes schools a rich target for
4:54 pm
a crazed killer like this and he wasn't going in for a murder suicide we know that he tried to escape and he wanted to escape with his life. so those are some of the things that we know about this shooter so far just briefly to cues but perhaps your geological knowledge of viri we know that it's a but it was fifty kilometers north of miami is a little bit further north of fort lauderdale but more in la what kind of vary if you know is it would it be we're known for a tux of course talks like this but but is it known maybe for violence in that particular area or is it more of a. quiet area but the other bigger areas would seem more violence like miami and fort lower do. i am recently i recently moved to florida from california but i am familiar enough with the area to know the reports that i'm hearing are that it was
4:55 pm
a very nice upper middle class sort of neighborhood thought to be very safe you know for example you know not not in inner city school where you know we hear a lot about guns getting into those schools and things my understanding is that this was a rather residential area and that certainly no one would ever have seen something like this coming. out and political analyst and psychology expert we thank you so much for coming on the program short notice as well gina. well we know that also there was a high school freshman at the school tweeting all of there we know that the person is safe he said but he was locked inside and was scared from the pictures he was probably hiding under a desk in a classroom he's checking local news on his phone and citing the reports of some twenty victims just in fact what you're seeing what we're showing up were a history of u.s. school shootings already being two hundred seventy five incidents in since twenty
4:56 pm
