shootings every day in the inner cities of miami detroit and chicago and washington d.c. but you know in a suburban area like this it's it just makes people go back and wonder what's still unknown in our country we i mean when they think about it you got seventeen yesterday. recent killing at the texas baptist church twenty six las vegas bulls nightclub forty no new down twenty seven six hundred eight zero nine eighteen charleston knowing or corrupt colorado twenty nine hundred thirteen he's going on and on and on and it's always with the same weapon. that weapon is an assault rifle that is available to citizens. to magic in it it's modeled after the sixteen which the military uses talk to me a little bit about that weapon and why is it so easy for people to get the united

states. well i could write a story. about it i know and i want to see if i could i get bumped stock right now i get the whole bring him home with magazines i could get extended magazines right now even after the shooting i could go by in this country and it's not the cause of those who are mentally ill we've got to stop thinking about that this is cause it's the big oil ability of assault weapons availability extended magazines and machinery to make them into full autos that they want. indeed now you are a person of a joe legal adult. this. reported shorter shooter the alleged shooter is believed to be nineteen years old but still young the school age if you will.
10:33 pm
how is it possible i mean. for someone that age to get weapons in the united states i mean i mean is it even legal. well i was a former front man and that man and bill in television other star you had to have i would have to be by that i have insurance i had to have a. a say trigger locks i did all the city equipment here in the united states no one if people can have an armory in their house and not be required to have the seat quitman that it's necessary to keep these guns away from he just want to kill people that's this wait is this guy wanted to kill people no one can tell me that he was that it was. evil that it came out of a group of other people tomorrow in another school somewhere in the united states
10:34 pm
we don't. seventeen school shootings since beginning of the year and yet doesn't even count the number of school shootings that were intervened by police forces that were stopped from happening we don't even know how many of that stock the fact that the facts are these are available adam lanza. we need each other say it pulled out all these does it kill all those children don't even isis didn't go into a children's school and mass murder children this is an american problem you need do you need i.d. it's it's because we have a gun lobby that is so powerful that our our representatives our weekend you can go to a website and find out how much all these representatives in congress make probably go to lobby the n.r.a. the n.r.a. should be required to stop lobbying money in our congress this is nothing to do
10:35 pm
with second amendment rights this is nothing to do with someone taking away your gun this it has everything to do with our village in our own country and we are being manipulated by one who are being and it's. for those of you just joining us we are speaking to tighe barry who is from the activist group code pink and our continuing coverage here in our to international of a tragic a school shooting in southern florida park in florida to be specific where at least seventeen people have been killed and many more reported injured. definitely appreciate your thoughts on this continuing with our conversation. and to give you some reference what the viewers are seeing is we have a split screen on one side we have images from the school and of the police reaction in the mass of. law enforcement and emergency professionals reacting to
10:36 pm
the scene and on the other side we have error. footage of the students when they were being evacuated and of the school. harrowing images that unfortunately we are far too used to seeing in the united states as you've mentioned many incidents this is far from the first school shooting that we've seen in the u.s. . is it possible for schools to impose extra measures to ensure the safety and security of the students i know that there's this big debate that we have about safety and security versus freedom what's the proper balance here so that we can keep these kids safe in an educational environment. let me just tell you if you go to a school in brooklyn new york you might go through a metal detector if you go to a school in detroit michigan you might go through a metal detector you might have schools that are locked down twenty four seventh's you might have police on the campus you might get security personnel and campus but
10:37 pm
in these white suburban neighborhoods where most of these shootings happen they don't want prison schools in their neighborhoods so they won't allow this to happen and neither should they it shouldn't happen in brooklyn it should never been in detroit it should have been in the nation's capital but it does and the reason it does is because these guns are in the hands of people that everyone there is more than three hundred fifty million people there is i mean there's more than three hundred thirty million people in this country and there's more than three hundred million guns out there on our streets we've got to get a grip otherwise there is going to be mass murder all the time in this country without stop the next person is going to try best that person for them this you're never going to be able to continuously blame it on mental illness or some other factor the fact of the matter is it's one type of gun and it's. easily available
10:38 pm
it's not black it's not air it's not in the eagle it's white middle class. are. mass murder and there are streets but will be out right there you mentioned that this was an affluent neighborhood predominantly white we've reported earlier in our coverage that this is one of the lowest crime. in all of florida and the school itself is one of the best students in the country as reported by newsweek we're getting new information in by the way that of the seventeen who have been killed twelve of the deceased victims were found inside the school building itself two more were found just outside and one in the street nearby so this looks like there was a trail if you will for investigators to follow as we get more information about
10:39 pm
this as it unfolds. you you mentioned earlier that this is not a mental health issue and i don't necessarily want to push back but i do want to bring up the idea of mental health is it possible for us to be able to track down students who could potentially carry out these attacks. earlier and to identify them earlier maybe through social profiling maybe through better health care in the schools what can be done from that front in order to catch these kids who are intent on committing murder and on a grander scale. well you might be able to get away with checking every it in a school it is where there are white upper middle class being who own the vast majority. you can do it in the downtown in your.
10:40 pm
neighborhood. but in these white neighborhoods those white parents those upper middle class parents are not going to allow you to question their children on their midsole hell this is this guy who went into a school he had the smarts to hold no longer an e.m.t. and he had an armory with him he had multiple rounds multiple magazines he had access to an incredible amount of ammunition and weapons he knew what he was doing this is not a mental health issue sure it's crazy to go around killing it's also crazy to every guy in the white house who sit near him hearing it but do know the guys but as the comic weapon we're it this is an american problem and it needs to be dealt with like every other country in the world has regulations on who can have who can not have weapons we need to we need to know who has them where they are we need to
10:41 pm
require equipment trigger locks gun safes the problem is not mental health because we sure do have a lot of mental health issues in this country this is a country full of p.t.s.d. wheeling he well you go ahead you bring up a good point that it is a unique american problem in terms of school shootings mass shootings and the amount of guns in the united states far outnumbers the amount of guns in the civilized nations around the world. which brings me to the political issue you have the left that says that we need to have common sense gun control and we need to do something about getting guns off the streets and out of the hands. of people who could be using them you have the right who you mentioned earlier are beholden to very powerful lobby the n.r.a.
10:42 pm
and the congress which is very much tangled with the n.r.a. what is the solution what needs to be done in order to fix this so that these shootings don't happen in the states. let me correct you on one thing this is not a left right issue if it were if it were dead easy in two thousand and nine and two thousand and ten the left so-called left the democrats would have been able to even quote this problem is that the fact of the matter is just like the weapons industry in the united states that once we're at war around the world the n.r.a. the gun lobby in united states wants to have open free sales of the goats not just to sell guns in the united states by the way but to ship them pretty literally around the world they have no dirty old men and their ability to make billions and billions of dollars and they're killing machines we need to have sound
10:43 pm
equal in products there are people on the left who are ready to buy take money from the n.r.a. and are quiet then me you might hear a peep from them in the next couple days but they'll go suddenly you know we. know that this is a serious marriage uniquely american problem and it starts with the ability of congress to say we will end up killing of the people of the united states everyone to get out there on the streets and say we're not going to take this anymore but let me tell you it's not about gun control also because you stop a lot of this it just like in a car you have to bricks in a car you're not going to let people drive around the streets without great guns states trigger locks. they only be allowed to buy so much ammunition at once knowing you should have to register your gun you're gone should ask if you can just
10:44 pm
lose or go they don't report it this is a rasie american says it's got to be stopped and it's got to be stopped right now if we want to savor it. now. we talk about. you know switching gears back we talk about it's not soley a mental health issue it's not solely a gun control issue it's about much more and i want to turn right now to the victims of today's tragedy many kids around the country are going to be seeing this on t.v. many are going to be traumatized by what they see on t v many more. or the ones who are there on the ground right now in florida are experiencing the aftermath of an immediate tragedy what's next for them how are they going to get the help that they need to be able to move forward from this tragedy. but i'm pretty sure we're going to have an isolated. group of people that will go in there
10:45 pm
got your site five a truce there it is out they're going to focus on this one as well they might even focus on the school district and then a month or two they'll all go on this is the way it runs it's a regular system. when you have a guy who goes into a school and nass murders twenty. children under the age of buy. it from its eyes an entire nation we are traumatized nation there are people you have c.n.n. you let all the networks everything you say or the next two dates back to that we had her is is we need to get real people one of these television talk about renewable ways now and get this problem the way to go about.
