syria fighting against kurdish forces kurdish forces that have been armed by the united states now it turns out a number of the forces in the s. d. ath have actually relocated they've essentially gone to a wall from their position elsewhere in the country and gone to northern syria to fight against the turkish military turkey is demanding that kurdish forces be expelled from the anti islamic state fighting force led by the united states in syria however in the past we've heard u.s. leaders quite adamant about their support for the kurds the coalition's war can join with the syrian democratic forces to stop mission train the new syrian border security force approx one two hundred thirty individuals training in the b.s.f. sanogo close with the goal of a funnel for the sons of approximate thirty thousand now the turkish government considers these kurdish forces operating in syria to be terrorists and feels quite threatened by them and has been a long outspoken in demanding that the united states and its support for these

forces this is what we've heard from the turkish president. why you still here why do these weapons still arrive america is in the process of creating a terror army on all good do nothing crucial now borders do not provoke we will run out of patience tillerson has arrived in turkey and he'll be going to an embassy a u.s. embassy in turkey that is on a street that's actually maimed for the military operation against those kurdish forces armed by the united states operation olive branch that is sending a pretty clear message to washington that they do not approve of this policy of arming kurdish forces the united states is caught in a strange place between two allies it's aligned with the kurdish forces and it's also aligned with the turkish government a member of nato that considers those kurdish forces to be terrorists. well political science professor ching is tomas says turkey now wants the u.s. to deliver on his promises we are fed up with these words it's coming from america
1:32 am
by mistake good to be you know i understand security teams of turkey at this point a terrorist group there is you know not only diplomatic scientists those from the united states just want to keep its promises to deliver those promises to turkey related to africa and especially in member otherwise i think it doesn't work you know this kind of diplomatic meetings for turkey. u.s. intelligence chiefs are advising citizens to stay away from chinese smartphones that include said t.v. and huawei after concerns were raised they're being used by beijing to spy on americans but provides the capacity to maliciously modify or steal information and it provides the capacity to conduct undetected espionage raise your

hand if you would recommend that private american citizens use one way or z.t. products or services. not of your generation thank you for that well the browns mentioned there are some of the biggest names in mobile communications worldwide said ts market share puts the company in eighth place globally while huawei makes the top three and while away is investing heavily to break that your pally of market leaders samsung and apple. way has big names advertising its bonus like football star lionel messi actress scarlett johansson and henry cavill who played superman in the latest movies. but only last week a conversation between two f.b.i.

officials was leaked to see which they pointed out apple's ability to track he uses tech consultant tung chee is right says the warning from u.s. intelligence chiefs is ironic given the activities of america's own agencies anything's possible in trump's america we just don't know but given the size of the trading relationship between the two i think they'd have to be very cautious about damaging that seriously electronics one of the year the biggest markets going back and forth intellectual property and this huge contractual tires between chinese manufacturers and american network providers so it would be incredibly difficult to translate these sort of statements into legal restrictions it's certainly ironic that they're putting so much effort into you blocking the entry of these companies into the u.s. market without making a evidence available because as we know the one place where there is great evidence of spying activity happening here is largely driven by the u.s. government we know that actually ironically they try to insert software into huawei devices to spy on people that way so it's a difficult situation maybe they have evidence they don't want to share for
1:35 am
security reasons but right now the one party you have evidence is not people if the people who are complaining about huawei. the u.n. says civilian losses in afghanistan are at record highs with some of the blame forming on pro-government forces paula not story after the break. we're going to walk with you on the idea that dropping bombs brings police to the chickenhawk forcing you to fight the battle. to socks for the value that will be gossip the public but. off of advertising tell me you are not pulling out by product. of a whole week along the border one.

of the protocol is hard coded to dismantle the world as we know it and those trying to get their way will be destroyed by it but those who want to come on board like a friendly regulator that's ok a bit wary though you know it's the classic good cop bad cop scenario you that want to regulate anyone if the government comes with a gift you have to be a little leery. welcome back u.n. assistance mission in afghanistan has released its annual report saying the country has seen a year high in civilian casualties although losses are lower than the previous year twenty seventeen marks the full sphere of more than ten thousand civilian deaths
1:37 am
and injuries the report also says a fifth of these records point pro-government forces and international troops. but i must emphasize that two thousand and seventeen was the fourth consecutive year where the mission recorded more than ten thousand civilian casualties pro-government forces which include afghan national security forces international military forces and pro-government armed groups were responsible for twenty percent of civilian casualties where u.s. forces have now been in afghanistan for over sixteen years and during that time over two thousand american soldiers have been killed while over two trillion dollars has been spent on operations in the country so far last august president tran unveiled a new strategy for the resolving the conflict calling for a fifty percent increase in u.s. troop strength or certain activist david swanson says negotiation rather than force
1:38 am
is the way out of the afghan quagmire. these are civilian deaths that are absolutely unnecessary in a war initiated by the united states at a time when the taliban was willing to negotiate just as it's now up peeling to the us public the taliban for all its hideous flaws and crimes is absolutely right to try to reach the us public the question is whether we can find the media outlets including this one that can manage to reach the us public with that proposal and whether the u.s. public can have any sway over their so-called representatives here in washington that's the big question you know but the white house has made very clear that it does not want to listen the taliban doesn't represent the people of afghanistan and would need to find a solution to the taliban but they will find that solution more quickly when the u.s. stops exacerbating the problem. the white house has blamed russia

for a large scale ransomware attack which targeted a number of countries last june including russia that comes after the danish ministry of defense also says russia was responsible for the attack while the british government has also made the same accusation but the foreign office minister lord outmanned who made the statement couldn't actually confirm if it was done to moscow. the u.k.'s national cybersecurity center assesses that the russian military was almost certainly responsible for the destructive not patch of cyber attack of june twenty seventh. when the mao where behind the attack is called not petyr the first reports of the cyber attack came from ukraine but quickly spread around the world it's believed not pecera hacked at least two thousand organizations including transport systems banks and hospitals russia the u.k. the us germany and france were all affected political commentator adam gary thinks making russia the scapegoat is all the rage. it's just a trend it's
1:40 am
a it was communists were everywhere in the fifty's then it was everyone who's a muslim is somehow a danger now it's russians maybe next month it will be the chinese but since russia and china are our allies maybe they can both be the scapegoats of the failures of western governments to actually do their job for their own citizens so yes it absolutely is a trend in the allegations continue to get more and more absurd there's only one thing in fact that is consistent about these allegations and that's that they don't lead to any tangible evidence there's an allegation there's a giant question mark and then there's an empty russian saying sions anti russian statements the persecution of russian individuals but to get from step one to step three that crucial step to evidence is always missing. well the russian embassy in london has reacted to the accusation saying there is no proof moscow is to blame the statement of foreign office minister lord is like many other similar
1:41 am
accusations not backed by any evidence it is another example of irresponsible and hostile rhetoric of british officials towards russia. now there are two unusual teams at this year's winter olympics one is the united squad from north and south korea competing together for the first time in twelve years and the other is an impact on fleets from russia known as oh they are competing underneath cute in a dispute and don't think scandal artie's are some spectators whether they recognize the russian team's rebranding. it will take a long while for russian athletes journalists like myself that i can tell you first sure to forget the acronym oh ok r after chang twenty eight thing well just before the winter games a group of russian designers thought they could take advantage of the international olympic committee's language sanctioned.
1:42 am
i put one of those on myself and decided to walk around near the olympic park a little bit. what kind of team did people with this kind of sweatshirt support i'm growing. it's a limb take it half really really good for the russian north korea i think north korea russia russia the food there will be here because they do that if you're used to a limp or. something of a limp think athletes of russia what would you chant if you were annoying our team supporter oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh we come from relief on.
1:43 am
the leg you see some people say a russian animal can make a sound like that there you go russian fair siberian tiger the fear was. fear will make it sound when it comes to. gold medals well judging by the first few days of the winter olympics the russian fans have chosen to stick to the more traditional chants and symbols. you know you have a trade go archie and young. siberian tiger well for more on these and plenty of other stories go to our website artie dot com otherwise i'll be back with the headlines at the top of the hour see that.

greetings and sal you taishan this. just forty some odd days in the twenty eighteen in the united states was once again witness to yet another tragic school shooting seventeen souls both young and old were violently taken from their families friends and community by yet another malicious madman whose reasons remain a mystery but whose pathology has become all too familiar how familiar you may ask well the guardian is reporting that just seven weeks in the twenty eighteen there have been eight shootings at u.s. schools that have resulted in injury or death according to the nonprofit gun violence archive there was three hundred forty five mass shootings in just twenty seventeen alone all of this begs that most important question what can we do what must be done to save ourselves and our loved ones from this kind of
1:49 am
violence right now across the land politicians and their handlers are crafting soundbites while social media warriors are rattling their keyboards naturally the knee jerk gut reaction depending on which side of the political aisle you sit on is teether blame the mentally ill or blame the gun and let's remember that making something illegal doesn't magically make it go away if that were true there would be no drug problems in the united states of america same as you can't just keep locking up the crazy folks and beating them to the death penalty that's not going to solve this problem either maybe it's time we start thinking bigger. maybe it's time for true mental health care reform and accepting the fact that health care is a basic right not a privilege maybe it's time to change towards the humane in how we treat our social
1:50 am
outcasts shun them less understand the more because you can't stop what you ultimately don't understand maybe it's time to examine the societal impact of condoning and defending government and corporate sponsored mass violence against more people around the world and within our own borders because they dare to worship a different god practice a different style of government or simply weren't born with the right color of skin or enough numbers in their bank account we have to ask what kind of effect does that have on the mental health of the society we need to change the conditions that create the monsters who would shoot up a school or a concert rewriting or outlawing the second amendment or simply just condemning another person to death is basically fool's gold it's the cheap easy way out that doesn't actually solve the problem it's like drinking robitussin to cure cancer

hard questions and hard answers are what we need right now so let's start watching the hawks. if you want to sell what i already stated in your story to the best of my sister's real interest which she took in the last decade from the bottom to. the last what is it like you know not i got past this with the police to. the concentration camp if they wanted to. extend. with respect. to welcome the watching the hawks i am all for the rights for the latest on the ground in the aftermath of this tragic shooting of marjorie stallman douglas high school in park in florida here is our teams because nobody. parklane this they were in a state of shock after the tragedy that unfolded here yesterday when the stock

speck nineteen year old nicholas cruz stormed into his home a high school shooting and killing seventeen people and injuring many others the area surrounding the school is still closed and obviously you can see the police the law enforcement and keeping a tight perimeter surrounded the high school i was able to talk to some people overhead what they said is that parkland is a very quiet city actually it was voted after largest state for stickley and people around here aren't familiar with any type of violence and obviously they weren't prepared with the what happened here yesterday i had the chance to talk to polina elaine nick she is a student at the school she we met at her house that's just a few blocks from here and she was telling me all about what happened yesterday she was at school when the whole attack took place and she was mentioned in the chaos first and then she actually praised the teachers and the staff to keep in everybody
1:53 am
calm at at first she said they felt it was the drill and then they. had to go out of the school obviously with their hands up and it was a very stressful situation for all of them and it was very interesting when she mentioned that. the time the she was in the school and afterwards she was relatively calm she obviously had to text her parents saying that she loved them and that was a stressful moment for her but she was quite calm during the whole ordeal it was only today hours after after the whole event when she realized the magnitude of what she lived yesterday and that gives us an idea of how people especially young people cope with these tragic events and it's obviously going to be a long road for this community is going to be vigils here the weeks and there's going to be counseling not only for the students teachers and staff but also for their families this is going to be as a state a long road to recovery obviously after
1:54 am
a match shooting like this one there is there is a media frenzy and we've seen it here national and international media on the ground but what i have seen is that people are less interested in the immediate effects they want and large at the bait and that they can go different ways some people talking about increased insecurity in schools others say that that's not the road we should go down because it could it could turn schools into prisons and others just want more education but the bottom line here is gun control that's the big debate stomach and one more gun control some of them say that guns could actually help control this type of situation so the very moment moving forward is going to be really interesting to see and ask for now as i say it's going to be a long road to recovery for over here in this community. though we're on the heels of valentine's day that one day

a year when it was deliberating like you know i will bring love when i'm in a mood. it never hurts to go to talk about what happens when love comes. when and what happens when children are involved from a seldom explored angle artie's manilla chan takes a look at the family court system across america and her special forgotten fathers it's all too common to hear that society privileges men over women so when it comes to child custody it's just the opposite fortunately she lead nine men the right to be present in the lives of their own children those who speak up for them are ridiculed and parents sure but seldom heard it's time for a closer look at these forgotten fathers. manila chan joins us now to talk about her special which is airing believe when today and then tomorrow online speak everywhere all day eight o'clock today and eleven pm so manilla your special delves into some really interesting numbers about
1:56 am
the family court system in america because a good topic to get into because it isn't talked about quite a bit but and you say that there is actually evidence that you've been covered or you found evidence that that there's a type of discrimination in family courts in the ass states i mean i guess i just i want to call it evidence but all across america the averages are in the millions and millions of cases that are seen or heard for custody of children the millions of cases every year right we're talking two three four million per year and five out of six times women get the custody five out of six that is something like almost five hundred percent times more chances that a woman is going to get the custody of the child no matter what so i think if you look at this in the context of of any other type of legal proceeding and the ruling always comes down one other you know one way versus the other five out of six times
1:57 am
i think that is enough for someone to raise the flag and go hey way. minute something's wrong here you can't tell me that that out of the millions and millions of cases that they hear every year the millions of dads that are out there that want shared custody that eighty five percent of those dads are unfit to have custody of that those numbers don't sound right does seem very lopsided when you think about it and these cases you're referring to a lot of times like divorce courts right like that were suddenly to people who have kids but they need to figure out who the kids go to how much visitation rights how much child support right and what has to play all of these things and i've talked to so many parents across the country men and women both the men seem to echo the same kind of sentiment a whole cross the country these are not men that know each other these are not men that are involved in any of the same groups these are just random people including viewers that have e-mailed me and they many of them had very similar rulings from
1:58 am
different courts in missouri in california and virginia you know how can that be tied it's a good question and now many people you know i think it's easy to kind of look at that though alternatively and kind of conflate you know what you're talking about which is a father's rights to their children with kind of that old man who's right you've been a med like anti-feminism. and you know and be anti woman or anti mom and right thing how how are you addressing that kind of criticism i mean where is the line in the last debate i would say to the people that criticize the father's rights movement those are the those are the people that are are making this a zero sum game by saying that dad also love their children also want to see their children being near them does not mean mom should it does not mean that they're putting moms down it just means dad wants their kids to and that there
1:59 am
should be some system of equality that's spread through this country because right now it's operating. on a fifty year old ideology mom is the caretaker and dad is the breadwinner and those are their roles in society society's change that was the question was going to ask you is what you know why are you why are we seeing that kind of discrepancy what did you you know go find that really you know the people you talk to him and your spouse will the i mean eighty five percent of yeah that's a big no that's a big difference i was expecting maybe sixty eight now you know i can expect a little bit more leniency towards bombs but you're not you know it's cute short time left of what where it was what it what points to that discrepancy right now from what i'm hearing from all the experts i've spoken to in the legal field and the psychiatric field. people seem to say that these are again just based on antiquated old american ideals of what a nuclear family looks like and what people's roles are and these judges are slowly
