it's impossible for those families to go out because they were sniped i'm imagining that those trapped within the city. are completely helpless and we can't imagine the kind of living conditions as well because of lack of supplies and i know that inside there is no food there is sometimes no water. and those people they want to leave because they are living extreme conditions. i have one my for many. request from people inside. to be helped to go out safely because inside it's also very difficult for them can you describe how those people the messages that you're getting personal messages on your phone can you describe the kind of things that they're saying to you i am getting private messages and you know

1:38 pm
which is now one hundred one days away. for a world cup twenty eight team coverage we've signed one of the greatest goalkeepers of all but there was one more question by the way who's going to be our coach. alone. and i'm really happy for joining us for the world cup in russia. this special was it was also appreciated me to say the review the aussie team's latest edition may go up as we go. to jersey look. let's cross live now to london. is there for us all the team all t. so far as calling schmeichel and a marine you know it's quite some lineup isn't it paulie. it is yes with the world cup just one hundred days away now r.c. has unveiled this pretty major new siding to its team of broadcasters the world
1:39 pm
famous manchester united coach shows a marine you know he's going to be joining the lineup of football stars are going to be broadcasting on r.t. during the world cup special coverage this marino says he is thrilled to be joining r.t. that he's looking forward to attending the world cup in russia this summer and sharing his insights into the games the news has been picked up here by the british press and some of the papers took a swipe at marie deers new employers pointing out in case anyone should ever forget by the way that r.t. is a kremlin funded channel but marino isn't the first heavyweight footballer to walk through the doors of the r.t. studios as you pointed out earlier last summer the former england player stan collymore he covered the confederations cup for r t he's got his own show on r.t. now and r.t.
1:40 pm
recently signed legendary footballer peter schmeichel as well he's going to be working with a marine during the summer covering all things football related during the world cup so stay tuned. for the ok holly were pretty exciting not a long time to go. in london thanks. by returning to developments now in syria where the united nations has been delivering much needed aid to the beleaguered district of eastern guta just outside the country's capital damascus is the first time monetary assistance has made it into the area since fighting between the syrian government and the insurgency escalated last month well joining me live now is linda tom from the u.n. office for humanitarian affairs thanks for joining us here. firstly be really interesting to get your views on how you assess the operation so far.
1:41 pm
well so far we un the syrian arab red crescent he has been able to enter. that mission is ongoing heading towards the duma we have about forty six truckloads of health and nutrition supplies and food for over twenty seven thousand people and we're hoping to be able to start the offloading in the coming in in the coming hours the as we said it's a lot of trucks it's a lot of supply at the same time we have medical doctors nutrition experts food experts who will be doing assessments of the situation on the ground so that we can better inform our future assistance linda this is a bit of a breakthrough isn't it that we're hearing that those trucks are able to go in to that area with all those desperate people it's not been easy though can you explain
1:42 pm
the difficulties that have been faced. with sure this is long overdue the last time that we reached. where we estimate about four hundred thousand people are in need of assistance was on the fourteenth of february and when we entered that time we were only able to bring assistance for seven thousand people prior to that we have not been able to reach for over seventy days so access has been a huge hurdle for us in being able to reach people in need in. why was it so difficult you know we've got reports that the u.n. has said that the syrian government prevented medical supplies from being loaded on to the trucks just one example why was it so difficult who was present preventing the u.n. from delivering the aid. i'm afraid that access has been an ongoing issue for the humanitarian team here in syria and in this case we were informed this morning by
1:43 pm
the government of syria u.n. and partners were told that that many of the plan to help the buy intended for duma would not be allowed to be loaded in addition to that we were not permitted to replace these items with other lifesaving items so these included things like truck like it other basic medicines and lifesaving assistance lifesaving supplies that are needed in in dumas i spoke to. a mother who had been working for the red crescent and she told us that the road eyes of i'll go to to the als office in camp that was just long way out and that was causing problems because the road itself was dangerous with the insurgents causing problems sniping at people trying to escape have you experienced the same problems when you've been trying to deliver the aid as well. well i mean we can't speak to the exact you know. military
1:44 pm
operation because we're not present and. you know we're only able to enter sporadically but we know that over the past couple of days that there has been a consolation of fighting that has resulted in. about six hundred people killed thousands of people injured today on our way to. you know we had also heard the sounds of mortars of shelling of you know fighting you know along our path and. these are real concerns because we cannot put the people of tomorrow in in in danger by whether there is ongoing fighting and at the same time we also have concerns for the safety of the humanitarian aid workers that are part of this convoy is a dynamic that's always asylum or in this situation isn't it you know getting the supplies but also the book is that you employ. in addition to delivering
1:45 pm
that humanitarian aid following on to the from the question to what extent is your agency in a position to help those civilians and wanting to leave. well i mean our position that's always been that that people should have the right to stay in their hotel and people should have the right to leave so people should have freedom of freedom of movement for those who choose to leave they should always have the right to return i think in the case of it's a very specific situation it's an area that that is completely proceeds to some point that you have to teach for years i think people cannot go in or out of this area commercial access you know what has completely stopped there was a time where there was some commercial access but at this point we saw you know basic supplies that you know we all need in order to survive are extremely limited or completely not available to the situations the stream lee challenging for men
1:46 pm
women and children in need. given to the situation is so extreme and they have been. just very briefly how would you quickly evaluate the establishment of the humanitarian carita all by russia. what we were not part of the discussions around the humanitarian corridors however you know any any initiative that you know alleviate the suffering of people you know we of course welcome we our primary goal is to that there is a cessation of hostilities that there is a humanitarian cause that is long enough for us to be able to deliver assistance on a regular basis what we called for and what we continue to call for is thirty days of at least thirty day cessation of hostilities so that we can deliver assistance to people in need in the but also when other procedures are hard to reach area in syria ok linda tom public information officer for the u.n.

office for humanitarian affairs thanks very much for coming on to our program. news round up for now i'll be back at the top of the hour with more so don't go away. focus ending the war and let's not make them to mingle to humanitarian concern which is the bombing of schools the bombing of civilians the shelling of the damascus by rebel groups that's not enough so the bombing by the rewrites as much earlier there's a mix of that with the political objectives which some people may still have. a little.
